Dakota Adams #3

So Close To Home

Know what’s great about a little black dress?
I can really rock it when it’s time for some R&R.

Know what’s not so great about it?
It’s a pretty crappy outfit when Armageddon comes and your holiday goes belly up.

Which is exactly what just happened to me.

So now instead of sipping mimosas and playing with exotic wildlife, I’m trying to survive a cataclysm of biblical proportions.
But hey, at least I’m getting my cardio in for the year.

And if somehow I can find Yet Another Wormhole™ and warp my butt back to Mars, I’ll have one hell of a story to tell.

That said, always remember, if I die, I want a Viking funeral.

So Close to Home is the third book in the Dakota Adams sci-fi adventure series, and immediately follows the events of the hit Spoilers: Things Get Worse. It’s a perfect fit for readers who love gripping page turners with memorable characters and plenty of lighthearted fun.

Genre: SciFi

Rating: 2.4/5

Review: I have to say, whomever is doing the cover art has mad skillz.

Ok, I can no longer look away from the content that is becoming increasingly trite once it passed glib much too often. I get that Dakota has a certain personality yet the expectation does not marry with the scene development and ends up rendering the story line directionless.

I will probably pass on the next novel unless the writer instills a sense of grit and realism (not gonna happen).

So Close to Home - a review by Rosemary Kenny

Born on Mars as the enhanced 42nd version of xenoarchaeologist and treasure hunter Dakota Adams, our heroine continues her journey through time and space like a combination of Lara Croft and Sarah Connor, accompanied by ex-Marine Jack, Kibnalis Tolby, (her feline fighter), the Empress, and Jainon, (tech genius and advisor) and the sassy AI, Daphne.

This third witty and vastly entertaining episode in Galen Surlak-Ramsey's epic Dakota Adams series, will make you cry with laughter, smile wryly at the sassy, sarky hilarious dialogue, while gasping for breath (not from the Covid-19 pandemic, which you'll completely forget about, along with any Lockdown Blues), from the tense, gritty all-action scenes, when it seems that our heroes and the Kibnali Empire fighters they're allied with, (against the invasion by deadly enemies the Nodari), is about to result in their imminent destruction.

A wonderful world-building, character-driven plot, excellent dialogue and interactions and a galaxy of feel-good adventures that will make you want to read the first two (and all subsequent novels), in the amazing Galen Surlak-Ramsey's Dakota Adams series for sure.

Satisfaction is guaranteed, so wormhole your way to your nearest book source and get your enjoyment of this epic saga in space started today!

Just finished this gem and I have to tell you, it was one hell of a ride! This is the third book in the Dakota Adams series and they go from bad to worse. Like the last book it picks up where it left off in the previous novel. Here we discover more about the Nodari and why they’re so hell bend on the destruction of the Kibnali. This sucker is a thrill ride of action that doesn’t let up until the very end. I just love these books and am so happy I found this series. It’s so fun, full of humor, action, love, and crazy science. I can’t wait to see where Dakota, Tolby, Jack, and the rest end up. I highly recommend this sci-fi adventure.

Our heroine is trying to take a break from endless disasters, but it seems the universe is not down with her plan.

This is book three of the series and it picks up roughly where the previous book ended. It can be read as a standalone, but might be better read in order.

This is a comedic SF action adventure and I mean exactly that. This story takes them all, mixes them up and spits them back out in a happy jumble. Accent on the happy.

This book was just as entertaining and fun to read as the previous books. I love the mix of genre and the humor was spot on, sometimes hitting you in the face and others surprising you around the corner. The little pop culture references that occasionally sneak in are always entertaining. As with the previous books, this one was non-stop action that kept things moving at a brisk pace. Still loads of fun and I look forward to the next book.

Highly recommended

I received an ARC from the author for review purposes.

So Close To Home (Dakota Adams Book 3), my first read from author Galen Surlak-Ramsey, and the third book in the Dakota Adams series. A fast-paced, fun-to-read Humorous Science Fiction story. Character & plot development were great. When I was given a Kindle copy of this book I didn't know it was the third book in an ongoing series, but I'm voluntarily reading & reviewing it I look forward to reading more in this series and will have to get the first two books in this series. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).

This latest instalment in the series was so much fun. I love the rapport between the characters, and think that Daphne is now secured in the spot of my favourite AI ever. Dakota and crew seem to find (or cause??) trouble wherever they go, but they handle it with admirable style. This book can’t be read as a stand-alone, you need to read the first two first. Can’t wait for the next instalment.

This was a fun space disaster of a story. It’s like the author had a 12 sided die and kept rolling “how can this get worse?” Dakota finds the answers to a lot of questions and like the rest of what happens to her and the crew, it’s not good. Daphne was a hoot and I almost died when they killed KN-E. This story keeps getting crazier and crazier and I can’t wait for the next one, they’re really growing on me. Thank you again, Galen Surlak Ramsey and the folks at Tiny Press for the opportunity to read this ARC and give my unbiased review.

If you are looking for serious, gritty, realistic, hard hitting space opera, I have an excellent list of books to recommend but this one is not on it. This is more the wackiest part of Doctor Who meets Hitchhiker's Guide with a generous helping of pop culture and droids with attitude. Maybe even a stainless steel rat.

Dakota stays true to character, unable to resist touching the shiny red button (or its analog), diving from one danger to another of literally apocalyptic, genocidal proportions and making friends with the local ashidasashi.
This is fun, light, escapist fiction full of humor. An action driven narrative, there isn't really much character development; they pretty much stay true to who they are. It was fun to see more of Daphne, who really needs to watch those decimal points.

This is book 3 in the series, and picks up right where book 2 ended. It carries on the story from the previous books with allusions to previous events but little explanation and assumes you are familiar with the characters from the previous books. A series best read in order. The ending, well this chapter is done but Dakota's adventures are far from over!
