He’s trying to keep his position on the team, but everything seems to be working against him. She has one job to do and won’t let anything get in her way. Especially a hockey player.

Pro hockey player Declan Rivera is nicknamed Dice for a reason. His playing is either hot, or cold, just roll the dice. And right now, things aren’t great. He’s on his fourth trade, and once again, his contract is on shaky ground. So he vows to do everything he can to please the Denver Chargers team’s owner, even if it means taking part in the dreaded social media campaign.

Camila Brandon, daughter of the Denver Chargers team owner, is hired to amp up the team’s image and get tickets sold. This is not her first time dealing with a group of pro hockey players and working with them to turn social media into positive exposure for the team. She just has to stick to her rule of never dating a hockey player. Not even a guy like Declan Rivera, who is nothing like she expects, and makes her question her own rule.

Welcome to Northbrook Hockey Elite!

Six professional hockey players used to play on an elite club team together, but have all separated and now play in the pro-hockey leagues. Not all of them were friends, yet circumstances bring them together, and for the greater good, maybe they can put aside their differences.

Declan Rivera aka "Dice" got his nickname because of his inconsistency of play on the ice. It had caused him to be traded four times in ten years and he just wants to keep his spot on the Denver Chargers, so when he's asked to start sharing on social media, he does, even though it's reluctantly. Declan doesn't know anything about Instagram, Twitter or most social media so he needs help setting up his accounts, which he gets from the team's new PR person Camila Brandon, daughter of the team's owner.

Declan and Camila have an almost immediate attraction, but there are some obstacles--she's sworn off dating hockey players (her last boyfriend was a hockey playing jerk), and since Declan's trying to stay on the team dating the owner's daughter might not be the smartest move for him.

I loved Declan--he's thoughtful, considerate, hard-working and good looking. Like a lot of the Northbrook Elite guys he's tough on the ice but different when the pads and skates come off. I loved how he cared about his mom and wanted her closer to him since she was a widow. He even helps with her tempermental Siamese cat Princess. I really liked that Camila took Declan's mom around Denver getting mani-pedis and lunch and her friend Paige joined in. We get cameos of Bree and the other Northbrook Elite guys when they do the video and photoshoot. The guys giving Camila "tips" before her date with Declan was funny--what a group to be friends with.

I liked how Declan and Camila's relationship progressed, and how he wanted her to see herself as he saw her. Her last boyfriend seemed to have made her feel she wasn't enough--thin enough, good enough, etc. I was happy to see her start rethinking some of what she'd started doing--wearing bagging sweatshirts, ballcaps, no dressing on her salad.

This is part of the Northbrook Hockey Elite series but each book can be read as a standalone and in any order. There's only one more book in the series which I'm sad to see come to an end as I've enjoyed getting to know these guys.

I received a complimentary copy. All thoughts I've expressed in this review are my own.

I really enjoyed the back and forth on this one. Declan is such a well-rounded character and his romance with Camila was a nice, sweet and slow burn. I liked the addition of Declan's mom and her cat Princess to the story so we could see Declan with another important woman in his life. I really wish he could have gotten a confrontation with the horrible Stephen and I was hoping for one more chapter or an epilogue, but I guess we'll see them in the books with the other Northbrook players. Camila was recovering from a breakup and her vow to never date another hockey player went by the wayside quickly once she met Declan. Her character hit all the right notes, both with Declan and his mom. (I am starting to notice a similar pattern to all the stories, though.) But, all in all, this was a fun afternoon read.

Charming and Mysterious Lead

I adore this series and I especially loved reading a story about a man and pro athlete who isn't the best. Sometimes Declan, aka Dice, delivers a great game and sometimes he doesn't, but he's got a heart of gold and is a gentleman. I absolutely enjoyed every second was watching him try to win Camila over, because she's tough, no-nonsense, and definitely not about to get entangled with another hockey player.

This pack of hockey men really make my heart swoon! They're as tough as nails on the ice, willing to get multiple bumps and bruises for the name of the game, yet they're all so charming off the ice, and Declan is no exception. In fact, he was kind of an enigma. He was almost flippant towards the requests the owner made of the team, but the way he coddled his mom and her pampered cat, Princess, was one of the most endearing things ever! I loved unraveling his personality, one page at a time.

Camila has issues of her own and although her walls were built solidly and high, Declan's draw proved to be too much. I was completely captivated by their romantic connections, especially with the flirty banter.

An epilogue to tie up all the ends would have been fantastic, but I'm content with what was delivered. Only one book left in the series and I'm trying not to cry.

Content: mild romance (kissing); very mild violence, hockey related

I am loving this series so much. Each book is individual but connected to the other books and characters from the other books. It really gives it an overall sense of community and family that I find so attractive as a reader. There is a feeling of camaraderie between the hockey players even when they are opponents on the ice.

Declan (Dice) is a fantastic character. I loved how hard he tries to be better and more consistent. Not just for himself but for his mother as well. He is a kind and patient son who really cares for his mother (and her cat!). It's endearing. Declan is fierce on the ice though and the contrast between that and his off the ice, private personality was interesting. I loved the steady and gentle build to Declan and Camila's relationship. It was sweet and easy to fall into. I enjoyed it!

Content: clean romance, kissing

4.5*

Declan aka "Dice" has been one of the characters in this series that flew under the radar for me. I was interested to know more about him but he didn't quite stand out as much as Zane or Trane did for me. But let me tell you, I loved his story! If you've been following this series and you felt that Dice flew under the radar, I hope you take a chance and read his story and find some great surprises about his character like I did.

He has high hopes to stay with the team he's on now after being traded several times. I thought his backstory was great and explaining why he was like a roll of the dice on the ice. One game on fire and the other not so hot. I loved his family connections and commitments. His parents were fantastic. Although there's some tragedy there as well. But all their sacrifices for him were not wasted.

Camila has had some heartache and is trying to find her place. Getting a job for her dad might not be the best choice but she's ready to put her all into it. Now to get the hockey players of her dad's team on board with uping their social media presence to help up ticket sales. She can handle a few hockey players, this is nothing new to her. But when she has to walk Declan through step by step she's not sure if her resolve is strong enough.

Ok, I have to admit that I felt a connection to Dice. He doesn't have social media accounts and being told that he has to create them and post for his job was quite humorous. But I felt for him. I'm not on social media either. I'd probably feel a little clueless too. But it definitely made for a fun story and a fun way to connect Declan and Camila together.

I really liked their friendship and the development of their relationship. They were too cute together. I loved Camila's reaching out to Declan's mom and the relationship that developed there. The romance was sweet and swoony and the book was packed with some great humor!

This is the 5th of 6 books in this series and the 6th one just released. Which means we're at an end for the Northbrook Hockey Elite. I've loved these books, the players and their leading ladies. Such a great group of characters. I'm sure these authors have lots of other great ideas being written up and getting ready for their readers. I look forward to seeing what those books might be. If they'll stick together and keep writing more series or not. *Fingers crossed they do!*

Content: Clean. Some kissing but nothing further. Some talk about alcohol but the main characters do not drink for personal reasons.

I received a copy from the author. All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.

Happy Reading!!!

I LOVE these Northbrook Hockey Elite books. The way the authors have written them to weave together is so fun. I love that each book features a different character that the reader has “known” through the whole series.

This one has Declan or Dice as the main character. I really enjoyed getting to know him. He’s one of those guys that wants to watch out for and protect the women in his life. Even if those women are just there for a short time, like Camila was supposed to have been. She was just someone there to help his team with social media. And the things he did to get his mom to be happier and closer to him were things most guys would never consider.

Then there’s Camila. I loved the way she was down to earth and approachable. She was a character probably every woman can relate to. And she was awesome with Declan’s mom. The scenes where they did things together were so sweet.

This is one of those books that I couldn’t put down. I was able to read it quickly. It kept my interest from the very first page.

I was sent an e-copy of Breakaway as a gift from the publisher. All opinions are my own.

This is the fifth book in the Northbrook Hockey series and I have enjoyed this series immensely. Although co-written with 2 other authors, the plot runs seamlessly. The story follows Declan, a hockey player for a Denver team, and Camila, the team owner's daughter who is in charge of improving the social media of the hockey team players. As Declan and Camila find their way to each other, they discover many similarities between them, such as the love for family and friends.

This is a sweet and clean romance that emphasizes the romantic connection through kissing, holding hands as well as dating. Intimate conversations and shared experiences are used to add to the storyline. The wonderful characters and smooth writing make this book a pleasurable book to read. BTW, I know nothing about the game of hockey and found the book entertaining. 5 stars!

This is the latest addition to the Northbrook Hockey Elite series. I have truly enjoyed this series and this book follows the tone of the others in that it’s a clean and wholesome read with fun and loveable characters. The character development is great and there is always a reference to characters from previous books without making it difficult to follow if you haven’t already read them. I definitely recommend reading the other books in the series though 😉
I received an ARC of this book from the author. This has in no way influenced my opinion and I was not obligated to leave a review.

It’s a mental game for them both to be able to deal with life. When they meet sparks fly and some mental shifts take place. Strength. Confidence. Love. Life is easier to handle for these two. What a fun story to read.

I enjoyed seeing characters from previous books in the series make appearances here. There were many things I liked about this and I liked the ending, but this wasn’t my favorite in the series. I am really looking forward to Diesel’s story though...

This is a fun series. Declan Rivera is a very likable character. He is respectful, loyal, hard working and handsome. He plays Hockey but has had some problems staying with a team. He is traded a lot and that is in his head. Camila is the owner's daughter and has some issues of her own. She has sworn off dating Hockey players after her last boyfriend. But Declan is different than the average Hockey player. He wins her over with his sweet personality. This is a sweet romance.

I swear, I acquire a new favorite hockey player with each book I read in this series! Declan is attractive for his quiet protectiveness, his devotion to his mother, and his tenacity on the ice. He and Camila have amazing chemistry, and the things they had in common made their relationship naturally develop in spite of their hesitations. Camila is struggling with her perception of men since being betrayed by her former boyfriend, and also the image she portrays as a beautiful woman who wants to be taken seriously as a professional. Declan is in a vulnerable position on the team with his inconsistency, but when his head is in the right place he makes incredible plays. Camila and Declan are so good for each other as they provide encouragement, support, and friendship. The scenes with the rest of the Northbrook alumni were fun as always with their banter and loyal brotherhood. The hockey scenes were full of action and brought a sense of excitement to the story. Another great addition to this addictive sports series!

Declan is such a sweetheart! He’s been traded several times and it’s gotten in his head. He knows his nickname, Dice, comes from his inconsistent playing. How does he change it though? Camila has sworn off dating hockey players since a bad breakup with a hockey player and has moved back home to Denver. Working for her dad now, the team owner, she’s trying to help the Denver team with their PR. Declan seems different than other players and she can’t deny the sparks. Will she give him a chance to prove he’s a good guy not out to use her or her connections? And will she be able to help him get out of his head and be a consistent player?
Loved getting to know Declan more, and the appearances by the other Northbrook Elite boys. Can’t wait for the last book in the series!

I really liked Declan's character. I like how, rather than being a superstar athlete, he is struggling to be consistent. It just made him seem more real. I also liked how he treated Camila, doing the little things like making sure she got to her car safely, and how he treated his mom--gotta love a guy who takes care of his mom, right? Camila was a great character, too, and while overall the book felt a little less polished than Heather B. Moore's other books (although that could be because I read an ARC), it was still lots of fun to read!

This has been such a fun series to read. As first I was a bit skittish, I am not a big hockey fan, but I am becoming one. This was a great story of Declan. He is struggling and is often plays hot or cold, not consistent. On the verge of being traded, he meets Camila (who also happens to be the owners daughter). This was a great story of learning to love others and getting past your weaknesses and stubbornness. I really enjoyed reading this story and can't wait for the next book in this series to come out.

This is a great continuation of the Northbrook Hockey series. It adds more depth to one of the NHL players who are friends and are featured in the other books. This book can be read as a stand alone but is much more enjoyable if read with the other players in mind.
The characters Declan and Camila are well developed and can feel like you understand their fears and strength. It is fun to read about the hockey games and “feel” the action as if you are there.
The story is a clean romance with love and struggles and concerns that keep you reading.

Never say never! Camilla Brandon said she would never date a hockey player again, and that all changes when she met Declan Rivera, who plays for the team that just happens to be owned by her father. The story of Declan and Camilla almost has a forbidden love vibe to me, their attraction almost instant. They both have their share of complications, some that could truly change the course of their lives, which I know we can all relate to.

Declan, or Dice as he's known on the ice, is the strong, silent type, with a heart of gold, which captured my heart right along with Camilla's. Camilla is a character that I can definitely identify with, which brought me even more into this story.

As with all the Northbrook Hockey Elite books, Breakaway was a joy to read. The writing is great, really putting you into the action, and into the minds and hearts of Declan and Camilla. With each book, this series gets better and better!

I don't remember much about Declan from the previous books in the series. He is kind of the quiet guy. But loved his personality! He is just plain descent - one of those guys that you know you can count on, who add stability to your life and are always true to themselves and you. So he got under my skin and I was rooting for him the whole time. Cam was a perfect match - down to earth, focused, sweet. They both didn't want to be in a relationship, but inspite of that I loved it how they gave what was between them a chance and were not ready to quickly give up when the first challenge arose. And the parent element was also great. I am sad that this series is coming to a close... but I learned a lot about hockey and now have some new favorite couples.😁
Narrative: 3rd person following Declan and Camilla

Well this is the cutest.

I honestly don't know why I never read this series until now. It is so good, y'all. So good. Breakaway is no exception! I loved it!

I'm fairly certain this book has it all - two lovable main characters you can't help but cheer for, some super awesome side characters, a jerk ex-boyfriend that deserves a facer (or fifty), the best character growth, a St. Patrick's Day parade, hockey games, swoony kisses, the sweetest romance....really what is there not to love here?

Declan and Camila were seriously perfect for each other. I loved watching their relationship grow as they became friends and eventually realized they had fallen in love. If anyone deserves a happily ever after, it's these two. I was so excited when things worked out for the two of them!

If this book isn't on your TBR lists already, it definitely needs to be. I have spoken.

A wonderful well written sports romance. This engaging storyline is a standalone that is part of a fun entertaining series.  A sweet clean romance as learning to love others as your getting past your stubbornesses and weaknesses in an enjoyable fun story. The characters are interesting and well developed with good chemisty.  I voluntarily read and reviewed this ARC and look forward to more in the series.

Great, clean romance

This was my first read of the Northbrook Hockey series. I enjoyed this sweet romance. The characters were well written and developed. There is a little conflict in the story, but overall nothing earthshaking.
I really liked the hockey element to the story. Many times a book about characters on a sports team doesn’t even have any sports in them. I loved this did. I look forward to reading the other books in the series.

Beautiful and Touching

I figured that while reading the previous Northbrook Hockey Elite novels that Declan's story would be amazing. The thing is the pace, which feel a little slower than the previous novels, is exactly suited for this story and these characters.
The slow and steady way in which Declan and Camila come to gather is perfect and I couldn't love this story more than I already do!

Hm. This book really left me saying, “That’s it??” I’m not sure I cared too much about the main characters. They were both fairly blah. I don’t think their relationship was developed very well. And then it just...ended. 🤷‍♀️ The whole book was blah I thought. Especially since it follows Mara and Zane’s book which I loved.

Sweet Romance

Camila is trying to show her dad that she can be awesome, while avoiding a hockey player romance. Declan is always trying to prove himself, because he keeps getting traded. They’re super cute together! I loved this story, and there was less swearing than the last book.

Breakaway by Heather B. Moore (4 stars)

Declan’s story was really good, mainly because not everything was tied up with a neat little bow. We are still left with the uncertainties of the coach’s decisions in future, which is more realistic than thinking that any of these players will stay with the same team forever.

The romance is sweet, the kisses are intense and Declan is a true gentleman. Camilla works through some issues, too. (As a reader, I really wanted more details about what she was dealing with regarding her ex boyfriend. It would have given her character more depth and given the couple a chance to have more meaningful conversations.)

The romance moves pretty quickly, not quite insta-love, but it does move right along.

I enjoy Ms. Moore’s writing because she takes us on the journey of two people falling in love, but doesn’t drag out the angst or any self-made drama the characters may have.

This was pretty good. I actually found the series from an author friend who mentioned it. So I checked it out. I have high hockey standards and this was excellent in that regard.
