Swallowed by Darkness

Rate this book
She wakes to a bone-chilling cold with no memory. Strapped to a table far, far from Earth, she’s pumped full of artificial hormones, then tossed into a prison cell for crimes she didn't commit. In the dark, she can’t see who, or what, she’s been imprisoned with, and though she can’t remember her name, much less who she was, she knows things. About medicine, the human body. Surgical things that give her the confidence to contend with a monster in the dark.

He’s a Felidae prince imprisoned in the armpit of the galaxy for crimes against the Empire. A man of worth who owns nothing but his pride and a thirst for vengeance. Deadly, willing to do what it takes to survive, he’s disgusted by the fragile creature who stinks of Felidae breeding hormones. He knows what they want, why she’s been sent to him, and what he’s supposed to do. But he’ll die before he puts a hybrid brat in her belly and sullies the Felidae genes.

Breaking her will be so easy… all he has to do is convince the stubborn little thing to come closer…

USA Today Bestselling Author of The Last Tritan, Atom and Evil, The Feral Court, and many more to come!

Raised by her awesome parents in Canada's snowy north, Myra learned perseverance from an early age. She learned to speak in third person via extensive reading as a child, because... well... Northern Canada gets a LOT of snow. And when one isn't snowboarding, building quinzees, or waking up to teddy bears frozen to the floor (true story), one tends to read about places that are warm--even if being cold is preferable to being hot, every-damn-time.

All that reading gave Myra the gypsy bug. So, after college, (where she majored in professional gypsying) she moved to a ski resort in British Colombia to be a ski bum and chase the winter, because the cold was in her bones and it never bothered her anyway.

But then life caught up with her, as it does, and now she's stuffed full of enough life experience to write until transcendence (where she will be first in line to get a sweet android body and travel the universe until the end of time). So that's what she does when she's not listening to the voices or taking apart the electronics just to see their insides.

Cool right? Come be my friend on Goodreads, and have a free book for your troubles!! It's called Swallowed by Darkness, and it got me my USA Today Bestselling rank, baybee. Enjoy!!!

Loved this story, but sad about how it ended. I really hope there is more to come for these two. I was just getting comfortable reading when it ended 😢 it is a free story provided by Myra Danvers, and well worth the read if you love a grumpy alpha and a sassy human female. Please give us more Myra 🙏🏻

Swallowed by Darkness? More like Consumed by Darkness, I want/need more!!! This story was over way too fast and I can’t wait to see what Myra has in store for these characters, their dialogue alone makes them some of my favorite characters from any books I’ve read to date. Just like everything else she’s written I was left wanting more and disappointed that I was already to the end. I will be waiting impatiently for the next book to find out what surprises and craziness awaits them on Lennox 5. How are they going to get that crazy spider/tracker out? Wooden popsicle sticks perhaps? Have we seen the last of Filvtra? Because she really wanted a human snack.

So, I've now officially read everything by this author and I love it all! Sometimes you just find an author that does everything you love in a book!

This is a short story, originally from an Anthology, but it is the perfect little teaser and beginning to what is shaping up to be an amazing series! Can't wait for the next one to come out!

This was a newsletter freebie that I found one night when I had some time to explore my TBR list. And I am glad I chose to start. Dark, gritty and intriguing look at what happens with an alien experimentation, a captive warrior, and a smart-alack female who just doesn't know when to quit. While it is a short 30 minute read, the questions left could form a new series. Who is the warrior and how was he caught? Who is the female and why can she not remember her name but has the smarts to know about medical techniques? If control and possession as well as dispassionate scientific discovery intrigue you, then I would recommend this for your perusal.

(Part of an anthology Alien Alphas but putting this here to remember, in case it reaches fruition as a series.)

Edit: Because of the promise of this short story, I went on to read two books by Ms. Danvers. This story was actually the best of the three. I'd much prefer this coherent (so-far) world to develop further, and the characters to go on to a next phase rather than more of the light on context, disorderly but continuous action of the Tritan series.

Reading the story through the anthology. Didn't like the first chapter. She's cold, bound, can't remember who she is. Can't open her eyes. But she can tell where she's at per se. The character comes off extremely smart. For someone to not know their name or age. Plus, she's getting treated like the guy in the movie, that was a true story of alien abduction in the 70's. Some kind of alien substance put on her body.
This automatically turned me off to the story. Not something I want to finish. Moving on.

Soooo damn good, but I NEED MORE!!! Holding my breath and impatiently waiting in the hopes that an expansion comes soon. It scratched an itch I didn't know I had, and filled a fantasy I've had so perfectly, it gave it nee life.

The main female character is smart, witty, funny, strong, even though she's lost all her memories (not a spoiler since it is statedI the first 2 pages)

The main male character is mean, smart, super strong, and his wit matches hers. I loved their chemistry, and I truly hope they more is to come.

Hot damn! Read this as part of the Alien Alphas anthology. Her world building is simply amazing! Love the sassy smartass heroine. The H is male you love to hate and yet you still want more. Certainly no easy feat to write without turning him pussy whipped as the relationship develops, but Ms. Danver’s pulls it off FLAWLESSLY. I just absolutely LOVE Myra’s writing style! Definitely my new favorite author.

I HONESTLY DON'T KNOW HOW TO RATE THIS SINCE THE STORY FINISHED WITH AN OPEN ENDING. THERE'S NO SENSE OF CLOSURE FOR ME, BUT I DID ENJOY THE CONCEPT. ALWAYS HAVE. I WONDER IF THE AUTHOR WILL EVER DEIGN TO CONTINUE THIS BOOK?

This was a good short story. Wise cracking heroine with a smart mouth. Snarly, brooding hero. Throw in some alien technology with a smattering of sexiness thrown in...

Past Me: I don't like novellas, but this one's free, so whatever.

Current Me: Ohmigawd, what is his name? Why isn't there a sequel or a full-length novel?
