This was my second year reading through Rejoice and I have appreciated it all the more this time round.

Chris Wright has done a fabulous job of highlighting the theme of advent that runs right through the whole story of Scripture.

We so easily get it the wrong way around, we think we have to brush up to go up to God. The story of the Scriptures pervades with a God who comes down to be with his people. The wonder of the incarnation, Jesus coming in flesh, God born as one of us, was not "plan B," but was thoroughly in keeping with His repeated comings.

Of course it wouldn't be complete without looking forward, we live in the tension of the in-between. But the promise is He comes again, not to take us away to heaven, but to renew all things and fully take up residence here!
Such a helpful and needed reminder in these troubled times.

Amazing! As always, Christ Wright is astonishingly clear! I've rejoiced having read every one of these devotions - rejoiced because we worship a God who comes to us - He did come; he comes and he will come again soon! Rejoice!

I love John Stott. And I love Chris Wright. And I love the idea of Wright using Stott quotes as a jumping off point for devotional writing. That said, in a market flooded with Advent devotionals, this was just okay. Solid. At times helpful. Just pretty good.

Excellent preparation for Christmas or any time you want to focus squarely on the ways God has come to us, just as He promised, and will come to us again. Worth reading every December.
