What happens when we unconsciously take to an extreme an idea, a thought or an emotion? Sometimes, before being termed an obsession, such extremes actually shape our lives. In this collection of six short stories, such extremes of the human psyche impact a panic-stricken wife, a bored small-town professor, an amorous would-be adulterer, a dissatisfied village bride, a charming princess and a murderess with unusual motivations. Why did Su panic at the sight of a dog? Why did the talented Prof. Shukla hide himself in a small-town college? Can a hankering for perfection interfere with the laws of attraction? What lay behind Binni-Ma's half-burnt face? What became of the pleasant princess? What was the mystery of Anmola? Who knows, these slice-of-life tales may resonate with you...
A closet writer until recently... A full-time environmental consultant...Running, or at least trying to run two start-ups and bringing up, or at least trying to bring up two kids and a hubby. As an author and a reader, I am perhaps similar to the butterfly, flitting from genre to genre and exploring all tastes.
I want to blend poetry with ecology, science with nature, psychology with illustration and fact with imagination. As a veridical writer, my challenge is to ensure that what is real becomes as entertaining as possible.
Are you someone who likes to read short stories? Are you looking for something mind blowing to read?
Here is a collection of beautiful and very interesting short stories for you all.
I found this on Kindle Unlimited and the thing that I liked the most about this book was the cover, later when I read this book, I realised how much value the cover holds for this book. It represents the essence of the book completely.
It has six short stories which are not exactly connected to each other but what they share is a sense of twist and mystery attached to them. You will feel that you know what will happen in the end but be prepared to be surprised and thrilled.
I loved the first story, Cynophobia. To be honest, it was a very different approach and I was so eager to find out what exactly happens in the end but the ending completely shocked me, but in a good way. I had not seen that coming! That is what I like about such twisting stories, the way the story is written you feel like you are flowing with the story but all of a sudden comes a new turn the you could never imagine. I loved that in this book.
The writing style is very unique, I found to be very different from what all I have read earlier. It is written in a way that will keep you reading until to finish the story. The characters of the stories are also very detailed and they have a certain edge to them. They are not just randomly jotted down but you can actually feel their presence and significance throughout the story. Like in the last story, The Mystery called Anmola, I could not comprehend till the end how exactly do I feel about the protagonist. I guess that’s why Mystery is mentioned in the title. It keeps you on a curiosity loop that you would want to what is the deal with this person.
All in all, it is short book, easy to read yet keeps you interested till the last page. I would definitely suggest this book to all the short stories lovers and people who love to read books with surprising endings.
Extremely...: A Collection of Short Stories by Deepthi Sharma is a captivating book with six tales which keep the readers hooked till the end. Each story speaks about different extremes of the human psyche.
Each story is intriguing and fast-paced. The language used is lucid and easy to understand. I adored the cover page which conveys the concept. This book is a collection of stories that explore humanity, fun, phobias, loyalty and emotions. It was a short and quick read. This is a well-written book with six unique stories and a twist at the end.
Overall, I loved this book and would strongly recommend it to all.
Review of 'Extremely...A collection of short stories' by Deepti Sharma
'Extremely...' feels like a refreshing breeze with six heartwarming tales, each unique in their narrative style. The first story 'Cynophobia' reminds me of Stephen King's 'Cujo' initially but then takes unexpected twists along the way. The comic timing of 'Mrs Khanna and Mr. Verma' is on-spot as is the rustic feel of 'Muh Dikhayi' The last tale 'The Mystery of Anmola' was the one that appealed to me the most, with it's intriguing premise and perhaps the beauty of the story remains in the fact that we cannot decide whether we like the main character. The thought-provoking confusion evoked in the minds of the readers regarding the nature of Anmola is appealing indeed. I finished the book during an idyllic afternoon with a warm fuzzy feeling inside. The intricately sketched characters remained with me for the rest of the evening. Highly recommended for any staunch book-lover!!
As the cover of the book, the stories inside are vibrant and engaging.
Extremely is a collection of six short stories by Deepthi.L.Sharma that explore the extreme aspects of the human psyche. Each story delves into a different character's obsession or fixation, revealing how these extreme emotions and thoughts shape their lives. From a panic-stricken Su who develops a phobia for dogs to a charming princess whose life takes an unexpected turn, these stories are of a wide range.
This book was a short and fun read. I liked all the stories, but Muh-Dikhayi is the one I loved the most. The characters, though often flawed, are relatable and evoke empathy. The author’s descriptions conveyed the complex emotions of the characters, often making them relatable.
However, a few stories felt a bit rushed with an abrupt ending and underdeveloped.
If you are looking for a quick read this book may make you laugh one moment and cry the next.
Deepti Sharma draws her short stories on life wherein there are very few satisfying resolutions to conflicts if any. Thus, readers should expect something different here. Her writing style is British rather like Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s but with a touch of Edgar Allan Poe and it all flows very smoothly. She’ll delve into conflict and the circumstances that triggered it with the endings often abrupt and leaving the reader with a question mark. To best enjoy this distinctive technique one should concentrate on the stories as if they were poetry and follow what happened versus what one wants to happen. In that way, the stories became clear, unusual, and five stars.
A nice little mix of stories that are like, kinda, psychological whodunnits, of a sort. There's ink from the English greats all over the writer's mitts, your PD's and Highsmiths. Okay Patricia Highsmith was American but still... This was something different and refreshing, like a cucumber sandwich. Yes, it's very English. Normally, that would irk me, but it didn't cos the stories are strong. Best tracks? Look, they're all good but Cynophobia is a really good one, develops like a mystery, which it is, until the pay-off, and then it's something else again. Recommended.
This book is a bunch of six beautiful flowers of different colors and fragrances. Cynophobia, Mrs. Khanna & Mr. Verma, Muh dikhayi, the pleasant Princess, The prof who wasn’t a patriot, and The mystery called Anmola. I can’t say which one is the best. All are amazing. I am recommending this book. A must read!
Something I have always been a fan of is twists. Which wow this is full of! The short stories are nothing more but brilliant! Of all of the short stories....I do not know which one can be my favorite. If someone is a fan of reading short stories...look no further, and read this!
A brilliant collection of six short penned stories with twists, that hooked me up. Loved the perspective of presenting cultures beautifully. Every story has it own wow factor !! A must read and recommend book....🥰
Looking forward for more such books from you dear Deepti...
It is interesting how the stories unfold and get exciting with every page. The first story is about an adorable couple, and wife’s fear of dogs which is odd, but I will stop here not ruin the surprise! Needless to say this is my favorite story of all!
The series of short stories also tell a lot about life. Although fiction, the stories serve as a medium to reflect on issues all of us face. For instance, the emptiness women feel especially after marriage. It has nothing to do with the husbands. It’s because they lack their own purpose or do not know how to find it and the author puts in this is a very elegant tone and language.
This is a collection of short stories that revolve around, well, to speak of emotions, phobias, fun and humanity would be to underestimate this marvel. Need I say anymore? I'm truly pleased with the kind of thoughts and emotions it provoked in me with its variety of stories and flavours of essence. Highly recommended for people who prefer short, engaging reads that leave them with a food for thought.
I enjoyed reading this book. I liked the writing style and the sense of humour. The stories convey deep emotions and how all humans are flawed. My favorite stories were "the professor who wasn't a patriot" and "the mistry called Anmola". I think everyone would enjoy reading this book.
6 unique stories, all gripping you tell the end and an unexpected twist comes up. At the end of each story, my brain questioned what? That was impossible to guess. It’s one book that you may read at a go or keep it for a week and read one story before bed each night.
I loved all the stories but the first one stands as my favorite, to know what it is? Go read now.
Charming collection of short stories. No secret that the village bride had me wide eyed :) I enjoyed the culturally rich perspectives & twists and would recommend it to a variety of readers.

Extremely... A Collection of Short Stories by Deepti L. Sharma is a well-written and thought-provoking collection, bringing together a range of stories that explore universal themes such as love, loss, resilience, and the complexities of human relationships. Sharma’s writing is vivid and descriptive, and each story has a unique perspective that draws readers in with ease.
While the collection has some memorable stories that left a strong impression, I found that a few others didn't quite resonate as much as I had hoped. Some stories felt a bit too brief to fully develop the characters or their experiences, which left me wanting more depth in certain parts of the book. That being said, there are still several gems in this collection that showcase Sharma's talent for crafting relatable moments and her ability to evoke genuine emotion.
Overall, Extremely... is an enjoyable read with some standout pieces that make it worth picking up. If you appreciate short stories that touch on life's complexities, this collection offers a mix of heartfelt and introspective moments. Okay, so I took up this book as I was out of kindle books and wanted something different to read.
The Mystery Called Anmola: Only a sentence after reading this story, Anmola was indeed a mystery.
The Prof Who Wasn’t a Patriot: was an eye opener that sometimes u need to do it. Prof Shukla finally went for Ohio and I was happy his finally took his call.
The pleasant princess - The story was true to the core. And I always knew Rude will win but I felt sad for the princess.
Muh Dikhayi won over my heart. Loved how in the end she just wanted to meet Binni ma after listening to her story. I'm just hoping if the ending were real.
Mrs Khanna and Mr Verma was relatable because mid life crisis can make you do stuff and having crush isn't a big deal at all. But I loved the way u had ended it. Some might find it incomplete, some might find it open ended but to me it was a perfect end.
Cynophobia was interesting for me. As I've been in the same profession, what I found unrelatable was when she was disappointed with Su's decision. But the twist in the end was really good.

The book shares 6 brief tales, each with something in itself that kept the reader snared to the book. I completed it rapidly for a similar explanation. Be that as it may, I additionally felt like the narratives were some way or another hard to follow and finished sooner than they ought to have.
I also felt that the stories were somewhat hard to follow and ended too quickly. The cover and pages of the book capture everything about it.
The cover page, expresses everything about the book. I find the book fantastic, engaging, and captivating. The storytelling quality is also really compelling.
