A baby girl’s future hangs in the balance~when Cash’s only sister leaves guardianship to her best friend instead of him.
Successful contractor, Cash Langley doesn’t have time for love. He’s happily single and immersed in his business. When his baby sister Dena and her husband die in an auto accident, little Angie is left an orphan. At the reading of the will, Cash discovers that Angie’s guardian is Jane Everett, not him. It must be a mistake—one he won’t stand for. Loving, stylish Jane Everett grew up next door to the Langleys. While Dena and Cash were still very young, their mother left the family and Dena spent more and more time with the next door neighbors Dena and Jane, the same age, became best friends, almost sisters. Before Dena died, the thought that Angie would become hers had never entered Jane’s mind. Unwilling to take the matter to court, Cash and Jane face the situation. Jane owns a dress shop in a small tourist town in the north woods of Wisconsin while Cash owns a multi-million dollar construction company in Chicago. How can they share custody of a toddler? Much to Jane’s dismay, Cash finds a way. It’s not that Jane doesn’t want to share Angie with her uncle. But because Jane fell in love with Cash at her sweet sixteen birthday, having him almost daily in her life again shakes her to her core. Unfortunately Cash still only sees her as his baby sister’s friend. And after his mother’s abandonment and a failed engagement, he has a heart of stone. Will Jane hold so tightly to Angie that Cash finally loses patience and sues for custody or will Cash open his heart to Jane and all the love she has to give him?
Lyn grew up loving books. Her favorite night of the week was Friday night, when the Bookmobile came to her neighborhood in Illinois. She’d spend those two hours chatting with the driver of the Bookmobile and the librarian and making the big decision of the week — which books to check out! In those distant days, children were limited in how many books they could check out. Lyn could only take home six a week — and there were so many to choose from. Her favorites were Cotton in my Sack by Lois Lenski, The Little House series and the One of a Kind Family series. Later, she discovered Georgette Heyer’s Regency romances! This love of books led to a desire to write. Lyn won prizes in high school and college for her poetry and, not surprisingly, Lyn became a history and English teacher. When she became a mother, she gave up teaching, and while raising a son and a daughter, she began working on her first novel. Then she wrote her second and third. Long years of rejection followed — as it does for most writers. Finally in 1997, Lyn got "the call." Her first book, Never Alone, was chosen to appear in the first year of the new Love Inspired line. Lyn has written many articles on writing and the emerging Christian Booksellers Assoc. (CBA) fiction market. In 2006, Lyn's book, Chloe, is a finalist for the RWA's RITA, the highest award in the romance genre in the inspirational category. Now, Lyn spends her days writing books that show the power of divine as well as human love. Her nest is empty and she and her real life hero, her husband, have more and more time to spend together in their home on a lake in the lovely northwoods. And books are still dear to her heart.
DNF at 38% I chose not to finish this for a couple reasons. * I really didn't like Jane. I felt that she was very judgemental and selfish. * I didn't really like Cash. I felt that he was a big jerk. * Since I didn't care for the main characters, I didn't care for what happened to them. * The supposed "mystery" really didn't feel very interesting and didn't even keep my interest. * I was bored. * The biggest thing though, was when Jane's grandma (who is supposedly a Christian) basically told Jane that it was okay for Jane and Cash to fall in love even if Cash wasn't a Christian because that would probably make him open his heart to God's love. So basically it's okay to not obey what God's Word says if it's for a good cause?
A Heart of Stone is the fourth book in the Opposites Attract series, yet can be read as a stand alone novel. There was great tension between Cash and Jane. This tension began early on in the story with Cash’s anger and resentment regarding the placement of his adopted niece with Jane instead of himself as guardian. I enjoyed watching as the tension turned from one of anger to one of attraction, yet in a realistic way. At the beginning of the story, I really did not like Cash, however, as the story progressed, I began to see the potential he had to really love Jane.
A Heart of Stone was a moving story about relationships and loss, and finding joy through knowing the Lord.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
A story that touches the heart. From loss and grief to learning to find hope and love in the future, this story captured me from the beginning. Great read. I received a complimentary copy of the book. No review was required.
A Heart of Stone by Lyn Cote Opposites Attract Series Book Four Cash Langley has lost everything. His parents...his only sister and her husband, and now, his niece. He can't understand why his sister left in her will to let Angie go to her best friend instead of her only living relative. Well...this businessman isn't going to take no for an answer. He's going to get custody of his niece one way or another.
Jane Everett loved Dena like a sister. And if Dena and John wanted her to raise their baby girl...that's what she'll do. Even if it means having contact with the one man she's ever loved. A man who only sees her as a little girl.
Cash goes to greater lengths than Jane ever expected to be near his niece. Closer to Angie, though, means closer to Jane too. A great story of family, love, romance, and an adorable little girl bringing people together. I love Lyn Cote's stories. https://justjudysjumbles.blogspot.com...
The fourth installment in Lyn Cote's Opposites Attract series is a delightful look at how love and forgiveness can bridge seemingly insurmountable differences. Jealousy, anger, and mistrust are some of the issues that must be worked through, and clean romance and spiritual growth are some of the results. I am so glad I read this series!
I received a copy of this book from the author, but I was not required to write a review. The opinions expressed are my own.
This one will tug on your heart strings for sure. Ms Cote sure knows how to write a page turning tale full of love and emotion. This is a great read that I highly recommend!
I’m about 35% into this book and I’m going to put it down for now and I’m actually relieved. I don’t like either main character.
Cash wants his deceased sister‘s child, but she gave her best friend guardianship over the baby in her directives.
Jane has always had a mad crush on her best friend’s older brother, Cash, but she’s being irrational. She doesn’t even want him to see the baby. It’s her uncle! Why can’t she just play nicely and not act so angry and selfish? She treats him horribly so her actions don’t match what her internal dialogue is about wanting to hug him or touch him. It’s all so weird.
Cash is wanting what he wants, which is that baby. He acts as if he can’t stand Jane and will probably sue for custody, but his internal dialogue is often about her looks, what her mouth might taste like, or the appealing roundness of her bottom as she walks away.
Ugh.
Plus her wise Christian grandmother is encouraging a relationship between them. Now why would a Christian woman encourage her granddaughter to have a relationship with someone who doesn’t know the Lord? Even if it seems like a good choice, the Word of God takes preference. 2 Corinthians 6:14
It is a very moving story about how we all need to love everyone as family.. Adam and Eve were very disappointing they were in God's beautiful garden and they were such foolish and the world still doesn't realize we all came those 2. Now I am so blessed by reading your book. I would love to be able to write about such an awesome community you created and made me decide to the ones I have in my life. The gift from God is never aging to end so I hope you keep writing about all people coming to a place of peace and taking care of those in need.
Cash lost his sister, Angie lost her mom, and Jane gained a daughter.
What a scenario for a custody battle. Expected a different kind of mystery. Was surprised but certainly not disappointed. Kept me on the edge of my seat at times following Jane, Angie, and Cash as they struggled with their new reality. Jane leaned on God for guidance while Cash depended on himself. Could they work things out for Angie's best? Received a free copy and this is my honest review.
I liked the authentic real main characters who were dealing with loss, grief, fear, and jealousy. I would have given it 5 stars but it needed better formatting as often between paragraphs there either needed to be space given so the reader would know that time had passed or a new chapter should have begun.
Angie, infant daughter of a couple killed in a car accident, is ordered by her parents’ will into the custody of the wife’s best friend, instead of to the wife’s brother, who fully expected to be granted custody.
Kissing and cuddling without commitment, just to ‘test a theory.’
Several odd phrases that made me pause to check the possible meaning.
You will quickly grow love the characters the author develops and then as she builds a great story around them. Excellent use of increasing tension as the book comes a very satisfying climax
The story and characters were so real - with real feelings, fears and emotions. I felt like I was right there with them. My heart rejoiced in the special way God's love came through to work things out, as only He can do.
I loved this book in general but when the lead male character, Cash, says to the lead female character, Jane, "Will you drive to Wausau tomorrow with me?" it caught my attention. Since I live in Wausau, it was great to hear them talk about the architecture of so many of the homes that I have grown up around. I laughed, I cried, and in general, enjoyed this book!
I enjoyed this book. I have not read any of the others in the series but this one was great on it own. It was very sweet and the characters brought the story to life.
When a best friend dies and leaves her 5 month old daughter to her. Brother is angry at the idea of losing the only family he has left. Can two people resolve their differences to bring healing and love to all three?
This story was an interesting and complicated family and friends story that was an easy read for me. I could picture the characters in my mind easily. I can easily recommend this book as a good one to read.
