Surprisingly VERY GOOD.
I love books like this, creating a growing suspense page after page, being misleading and vague at parts (which only increases the suspense of the main plot), a very human and realistic main character (Eva), and a superb ending that made me want more!!!!!
I have two children, and honestly reading about the little girl on this book made me unease a couple of times when talking to my own kids. One of the many things I liked was how well described was that natural and motherly instinct to protect the little girl from anything bad happening to her despite anything that goes around her.
I read this book during the current Covid-19 pandemic, which means having two young children 24/7 at home, so not much time for reading. I found the book so good that I've tried my best to find some "me time" whenever possible, cause I could not stop reading. And Eva's questions all around the book were quite helpful to keep you updated, as it reminds you of her situation on all chapters in case it's been a couple of days since you've not been able to continue reading (as it was my case). I feel like not only work to keep the reader hooked, but also to make the illusion that the story is real, and you keep remembering that Eva is telling her story through an interview, hence the unusual storytelling repeating certain questions over and over.
On a year like this, when we are seeing many documentaries of real crime cases coming up on TV and stream platforms, this book comes perfectly to highlight the danger that the media does to those affected by the case when parts of a story are leaked to the press. It must be horrible to go through something like in Cries of Blood, and I believe the author's done a fantastic job.
I loved how medium-short the book is, with a simple story at the beginning that turns out to be hugely twisted and not so simple by the end. Definitely recommend it.
