Hot SEAL. Hot spy. Hot reunion. Can they work together to find a notorious terrorist without killing each other first?

When SEAL Spencer Newman accepts a dangerous mission to bring in CIA agent Drago Thorpe—the only man he’s ever loved—he expects things to get FUBAR. He doesn’t expect Drago to convince him to go rogue too.

Drago regrets ending their torrid affair by pressuring Spencer to acknowledge their relationship publicly, and he wants a second chance. It’s always been a challenge to get the uptight SEAL to break the rules, but to eliminate a supposedly dead terrorist, they’ll need to operate outside the law. Tension heats up as they track their target, but can they find him before their attraction explodes out of control?

“Do you swear on your honor you won’t try to escape from me?”
“I do. Till death do us part.”

THANK FUCK FOR THIS BOOK.

I was going through such a irritating readers block and if it weren't for this gritty story I wouldn't have been able to recover.

Spencer and Drago are amazing together. I mean, who doesn't like two stubborn big men going at each other. The history between the characters made their chemistry shine. Spencer is kind of like the boy next door character whereas Drago wd be the bad boy ur mom doesn't like. Except they have guns and are trained to kill. 😬

The story gripped me from the starting. It's obvious that they both have stuff to sort out and unfurnished business to take care of between them. Though, Spencer was more in denial than Drago. Spencer was so plain and unhappy in what he did till the point where he didn't have a personal life and his life was all about his job. Drago tried to bring him out of that by being patient. The fact that they both cared was shown from the beginning of the story.

“Stay?” he asked in a small voice.
“I already said I would.”
“Pinky swear?” Drago huffed. “Pinky swear, you goofball.”
Spencer held out his last finger, and Dray hooked his pinkie in it.

The book wasn't perfect. It had it's faults and I agree but I liked the characters. And sometimes when you like the characters you tend to overlook the other things. Don't blame me, we've all been there, especially when it includes hot men. 😉

“After you left, I didn’t have anything better to do with my life.”

So yeah, I liked it. And just so you know the sex was hot🔥. All the more reason to read it.

I would probably not have been so harsh on this if it was a KU read but since I paid full price I wanted to be rocke off my socks and was only mildly entertained. There's plenty of action, fun country-hopping with actual accurate information (perks of being a European is that I can actually tell if Berlin and Paris were described right) and the MC's are quite interesting too. So why did my socks stay on then?

Well, even though the book is quite long it goes into detail on allll the wrong things. The real plot doesn't kick in until far past the 50% mark and the following spy shenanigans are to shallow for even an NCIS episode. And despite spending a ton of time with Drago and Spencer we end up not really knowing them that well. Where are they from, what accents do they speak with, what's their favorite food - nothing. I don't NEED that information but the author acts as if I should know them better than I ultimately do. I also didn't think the smut was that much to write home about even though it was at least plentiful once they finally got down to business (past the 50% mark too...).

Overall I'm rather meh on this and would not pay full price for the sequel again. So hopefully I can KU it.

Just wanna say that I'm a pretty easy feller to please...I like a good, action-packed lgbtq+ romance, and while this book had both (male-male romance & action!), the relationship and the action didn't hold my excitement (or attention) like I'd hoped it would. The writing is good, the narrator's voice is clear, and while the story wasn't anything new or ground-breaking, it was simple and easy to follow – no plot holes or convoluted storytelling, just straightforward and concise writing.

If you like beefy, hot, over-the-top men running away from explosions and having sex in dark rooms, this book might be a good fit for you! There’s plenty of sexual tension and longing, lots of self-denial to add to the tension.

There were a few things that I didn't enjoy and most of them could've been solved by adding a sensitivity reader. The language toward/portrayal of drug users and sex workers wasn't The Greatest, and a simple Google search could've helped alleviate this problem. Just a thought going forward.

Oh my, this book was so amazing, I cannot even express just how much I enjoyed this read. It contains a forbidden love affair between a CIA agent and a Navy Seal, danger, mystery, action, betrayal, and so much more. If you are looking for a book that will grab your attention from the very beginning and not let it go through the whole thing, well this one is the one you are looking for.

Spencer is a Navy Seal. He takes his job so seriously that he has denied a huge part of himself, he is gay. But with being a Seal, Spencer will not let that information get out because he is not willing to put his job in jeopardy. Besides, there is only one other person who knows his truth and he has not seen Drago in ten years.

Drago is a CIA agent. Not only is he good at his job, he would say he is one of the best. The past few years Drago has been trying to track down the man who singlehandedly changed his life, Hamza. Ten years ago, Drago and Spencer were assigned to work together and keep track of Hamza and the terrorist group that Hamza worked with. Though Drago and Spencer were never to get involved on a personal level, they did and sadly the biggest failure in both men’s career happened because of it.

Now years later, Drago is closing in on Hamza even though he is supposed to be dead, but while this is happening, something else has happened as well and has now put Drago and his career at risk. Someone is setting him up for a murder he did not commit and the CIA is sending someone out to try to bring him in.

When Spencer is assigned the task of tracking down Drago and bringing Drago back to the US to the CIA, he knows this is not going to be easy. Not only is Drago one of the best agents in the field, but there is also the issue of unresolved feelings between these two men. This is definitely not going to be an easy job.

What will happen when Spencer catches up to Drago and Drago is able to show proof that he is being set up? Will Spencer help him prove his innocence or will he continue to do his job and go against the only man he has ever loved?

This book was so good! I honestly cannot wait for the next book in this series to come out! I will be waiting impatiently for it!

What a delightful action romper this book turned out to be! I liked the blurb but the book has exceeded my expectations.
The flow was well done, my attention did not waiver the entire story that's full of espionage, betrayals and internals struggles between MCs. Sure, you'll have to suspend some disbelief, but the story itself is so fast-pacing and full of adventures and one-upmanship between former lovers and current adversaries that you don't have time to overanalyze or nitpick because you are too busy enjoying the ride.
Should I mention that sex scenes are scorching?
Cindy Dees is a new to me author but I'll definitely follow the next in series and will check out other books by her.

One well written book....

This is one of the best books of this genre I have read. It is complete in every sense of the word. Complex characters, imaginative plot, excellent prose. A must read.

I'm a chapter 8 right now and I already despise Spencer as a character. For a SEAL he seems to be completely naive about life especially about the nature of the CIA and its trustworthiness and he's incredibly annoying with his whiney, self-hating, wishy-washy beliefs. I want to smack him and at this point understand very little about what attracts Drago (who I keep calling Drogo, in my head) to the other man beyond musculature and alleged strength. I think part of the reason I despise this character so far is because the character/narrator sound like a writer and not like a crafter personality. It reads as listening to an annoying person dimwittedly describe an episode of NCIS narrated by Daisy from Bones.

DNF before Ch. 9... honestly, worst characters and dialogue I've read in the past two years. These allegedly hyper-masculine, elite soldier/spy guys sound like 14-year old girls catfighting over last summer's infamous sleepover. I wanted to like book and it turned out to be not only frustratingly whiney but also boring.

Great action, thriller story.

I liked the characters and plot of this book. A well written thriller about two former friends and lovers. They reconnect after 10 years and must overcome several tense obstacles as well as trying to work out their own personal issues. I liked the suspense and action but the "love " scenes were over done in my opinion, the romance was find but too much detail that did not add to the over all story line. Good author, will read more, but flip pages through these scenes!

Kobo epub (445 pages)

SEAL Spencer Newman is dispatched to 'rendition' CIA agent Drago Thorpe; the two had worked together ten years earlier (and were lovers) but parted after a joint mission went disastrously wrong. The action moves rapidly, around the Middle East and then Europe - and it becomes clear that not only are their feelings for each other unchanged they need to make good on their earlier failure by bringing down the terrorist responsible. Assed to the problem is that their may be a leak in the CIA...

Fast-moving and readable in a gung-ho style with a sort of happy ending leaving things open for more books.

Really Decent Start

First time reading this author and I'm definately glad that I did. The story was well written. The world building was well done as well. The characters have a bond together that is quite beautiful to read about.
My only critisism per say is that it's o little wordy in some places and needs more words in others. There was great world building and discription through most of the book however the ending seemed a little rushed.
Overall worth the read.

Could of been brilliant

Loved Draygo, story really interesting and exciting, writing was not bad. But i failed to read it all because Spencer was like a 13yr old girl that has never broken one single rule. Spencer was annoying, self centred, until the end he had opened up. Draygo just should of moved on, just found a give and take partner.

Going to try to read next one as I said the whole book was good just not Spencer.

Read this a few weeks ago and can’t remember the names of the characters. I do remember a few scenes, but also that the pacing was off and things felt odd at times. So, I give it a 3 based on those memories.

Hurray for two super competent protagonists. The external plot really kept things moving, although the wrapup seemed pretty quick. I may have noticed this before with Dees, but the physical intimacy seemed to enter the frame fairly abruptly. I'll definitely read another.
It gave me a start to realize this book is a recent publication from a publisher that has its issues with authors.
