The first in a series of cartoon graphic novels, telling the story of two goofballs as they try to save the world. It begins the way any story should, with gathering some yams. But as they return home to cook those delicious sweet potatoes up, they discover their home is completely in shambles, and their trees have been taken!! In an impulsive decision, Dani (our main hero) decides they must find who's responsible for this devastation. How can they just rebuild knowing there's a lunatic out there taking trees that don't belong to them!? But along they way, they'll run into monsters, bandits, wizards, helpful allies, friends and mentors. Our characters are determined, unwavering, hungry and emotional. But most importantly, they're total and complete dorks. But that won't stop them from becoming the strongest and most fearsome dorks they can be.
3.75/5 The art of this is so good???????! I really really enjoyed the visuals of this!!
I could gush for hours, but in short: The color schemes are lovely, the panel compositions are nice, the art style is stunning (the character designs and line quality - OMG!) and the characters' expressions are absolutely hilarious (looking at you Ramen oᴗo).
The story itself isn't very complex tbh, there isn't a lot of plot, but the two main characters are very charming and complement each other well (their personality and dynamic reminded me of Wirt and Greg from "Over The Garden Wall").
After Dani and Ramen’s home is destroyed, they head out to find the culprit behind it. It leads them on an epic journey where they must have each other’s backs and be there for one another. Jake Morrison tells an engaging and wonderful story with intriguing protagonists. Filled with action, adventure, heart, and humour! For fans of Adventure Time, Amphibia, and Over the Garden Wall.
This was a really cute and enjoyable first volume! The plot was simple but effective and an excellent way to start an adventure! The characters were adorable and felt real! But the art... I absolutely love the art!! There are so many creative and artistic out there and this author is definitely one of them! I can't wait to read the next volume! I really hope that he continues with this story!
