“It is only in humility and proximity to wise counsel that any of us resists the invitation to become the worst version of ourselves.” “But what was the galaxy if you didn’t care for anyone?” Explosive, electrifying, non-stop action. A great example of military science fiction, the worst part of humanity was on display. The brain washing of one their most fearful enemy changes humans into vicious monsters, the worst sides of people were coming to bear, loyalty, betrayal, and treason. Just when I thought we had gotten rid of a menace, a turn of events and unsuspected twists spring up, filling me with renewed anxiety. A story told from various fronts and characters, it’s immersive and engaging, powerful and thrilling. Two different point of views, dissidents, traitors, losses, doubts, political confrontations and desperate measures makes this premise a highly compelling storyline. An absorbing, action filled and emotional plot.A tension filled storyline. Can’t wait to read Quantum Assault #8!
Ok, so the Galdio Umbra didn’t save the planet Capriana Prime from Moldark! Stuff like that happens. Still, it looks like they did kill Moldark himself. They certainly destroyed his command ship, the Black Labyrinth. So now what? Well, the remnants of the Republic are pretty spread far and wide. Commandore Seaman is the ranking officer which makes him the ranking person in what’s left of the Republic. He believes his job is to gather up what’s left of the Republic and get it back to working. That’s going to be one heck of a big job. There are millions of people on Capriana that need to be rescued and the fed and given medical care. He needs everyone he’s got to get that done and that apparently includes the Gladio Umbra.
Of course the Gladio Umbra don’t just volunteer to join the Republic. No, Colonel Caldwell ain’t about to let the Republic do anything to his unit without his say so. In fact, the Commodore was considering whether he should be arresting Lt. Magnus and others for treason. He was quickly told that was a very bad idea and to let things like that go. If he even thought about arresting any of the Gladio Umbra, there might not be anything left of the Republic!
Colonel Caldwell decides they’ll help the Commodore out and pitch in where every possible. They have to have some teams go and free the other damage Republic starships. By free, I mean they have to find out if those surviving are still under the influence of Moldark or are they willing to turn themselves over and possibly get pardon for their actions under that monster. It’s expected that some of the soldiers/sailors on these damaged ships won’t surrender so some fighting is going to happen.
Then a team is going to go to Capriana Prime and help with organizing the refugees coming from the bombed out areas to the few areas that are livable. Sootriman, Ezo and TO-96 are assigned to that task. It seems like a simple job until they actually see what they are up against. The citizens for Capriana Prime have lived a good life and don’t know what bad means, until now. It might make Sootriman and Ezo’s job a lot harder.
The third team consist of Magnu and Awen. Awen is now the Gladio Umbra and she is to go to Aluross and see if they can accommodate the Gladio and a lot more of the refugees. Col Caldwell says it’s time for the Gladio Umbra to rest. He specifically orders Magnus and his company to do so once accommodations are arranged on Aluross. It’s not know just how the people of Aluross will feel about hosting all of these people, but the Sekmit who inhabit Aluross are know for their generosity and kindness. Well, most of them are. Awen might not have such an easy time of it, but she does agree that the Gladio Umbra, which include herself and Magnus, desperately need some downtime.
Meanwhile, things are happing on Worru. Su-Elku is up to no good. He’s already got one planetary Governor at his side and Su-Elku has vision of taking over what was the Republic in the name of peace. Some don’t know if that’s a good idea or not. The Luma have been an organization of peace, but lately they have been showing some unusual military tendencies. With their power to control and use the Unity, the Order of the Luma could become a very big problem for everyone.
This book is not as fasted paced as the previous books, and most of the fighting has died down. The various members of the Gladio Umbra see this as a time for some to go back home. It’s not know if everyone will actually come back so the Gladio Umbra might become a lot smaller.
Capriana Prime is destroyed. Commodore Seaman is the highest ranking naval officer left of all Republic officials and it falls to him to take charge. First he has to evacuate Capriana Prime’s remaining population to a safe planet but what he is to do after that has left him numb. Meanwhile So-Elku is plotting to fill the hole left by the disaster. Sootriman walks into big problems when she goes home which takes all her energy and which leaves TO-96 to follow Ezo around to get him out of trouble when he’s drunk too much. The Gladiator Umbro are getting some much needed R & R but it comes at a price. Rohoar and his Jujari have returned to Oorajee only for Rohoar to be challenged as Mwadim. Unfortunately he is fighting a much more dangerous opponent than another Jujari, even if that contender is a champion. So our Gladias are scattered thinking that Moldark is dead and that a new life is ahead of them. But we should remember Piper’s dream and realise that there is still a very dark danger ahead for Mr. Lieutenant Magnus Sir.
The story is a fitting continuation of the series, with some characters you grow to care about. However there are some problems. The nearly non-stop combat is simply too much and isn't believable after awhile. And even more off putting, at least to this reader, are the MANY typos, way too many to overlook or forgive. Under the circumstances it's ironic the the authors thank their proofreaders. It's obvious that most of the typos are the result of parts of the text being composed using speech-to-text, but that is NO excuse.
This is what the seventh in the series. And the story just never ends. In fact, I never read a complete series together, always the next book I on my list. Not this time. I am going straight to book 8. These characters are people I really like. All very fleshed out and developed. Even the bots. Conflict major and minor all inter woven. This fits together so well. This keeps you on the edge of your reading seat.
Book 7 and it's taking forever. I thoroughly enjoyed 1-5, thought 6 could have been better, 7 most definitely could be Things are just taking too long. What could be done in a couple of pages, takes a while chapter, what could have been done in a 100 pages, took 300 The story is good, the concept slightly different than most, but I will be stopping here, there's too many other good books, to spend reading poor ones
A space nerd's delight! Chaney and Hopper offer readers a dazzling escape from reality in the intergalactic world they have created in Ruins of the Galaxy. This fast pace read is tough to put down. Though, at times I found the content to be a bit dialogue dependent, it was overall an enjoyable experience.
Ya! Wow! Is right. Action mayhem fast paced action! Yup! This series has it all. Great writing and storyline. Good vs evil. Evil plays dirty. Now the author ratchets the drama and suspense up on a quantum level! Good golly Miss Molly! May can’t get here soon enough!
This series is putting Star Wars to shame! It has all the elements but it feels whole! Nice witty writing that brings the charachters to life, a well thought out plot that teases you with answers only to leave more questions, a real page turner!
Love these characters. So far this entire series has been so engrossing I've stayed up too late and gotten up too early because I can't wait to read what happens next...
Just when you think things can’t get worse. The authors surprise you. I continue to enjoy the Adventures of Magnus and Awen, alongside the many friends and associates they’ve accumulated throughout this series.
