I’m the nightmare they never see coming.

You, the one reading this right now. Yes. You. I’m going to warn you this one time. Don’t decide to like me.

I’m not a good girl.. I’m manipulative. I play games. I’ve done it countless times and I’ll do it again. I can promise you that.

With more funding behind me than you can imagine, I can become anyone.

I mess with men’s hearts. And when I am done, it is more than just their money I take, it’s their very sense of self.

The football star. The politician. The surgeon. The artist. They all gave over their love. I hate to tell you how easy it is to make them my own. A little smile. A batting of my big, beautiful eyes. The most powerful fall the hardest.

Did they take part of my soul with them? Try to get me to admit it. I dare you to try. I’ll never say the words you all want to hear from me. I’m never sorry.

Those stupid boys.

I warned you. Don’t. Like. Me.
You’ll regret it.

*The authors strongly suggest you read the forward to this book before you go any further. This is the first book in a trilogy with strong, sometimes dislikable characters in a world where few people are as they seem and love comes at a cost not everyone is willing to pay.*

I 💗 the FMC, it’s not often I read a female antihero & the authors haven’t disappointed me. I also enjoyed reading the victims POV. It gave them enough depth to feel like individuals without bogging the reader down with Minutia. It had the most excruciating 😖 cliffhanger I’ve ever had the misfortune of reading. That said, it did it’s job I’m desperate for book two. I will continue this series.

So uh, what the heck am I supposed to do now?! You would think that as a woman who has likely read over a thousand books in the past decade, I would learn to read a title better. Like, when it says ‘book one’ that should probably be a clear indication that the story might end on some sort of epic cliffy that will leave me jonesing and insane with the need to know what is going to happen next. You’d think that, but you’d be wrong. Because here I am, baffled and irritated that I didn’t realize what I was in for.

This book is so different from others in the same genre. For one, you fall for each man on his own. As in, each story is different and unique from the last. They’re separate despite being part of the same book. I’m praying, beyond all hope and reason, that these books turn into RH. I couldn’t pick just one of these men. I would be moody and bereft if Holly had to. Lord knows she deserves a seriously delicious man-sandwich after the life she’s been forced to live.

Look, these authors warn you. They tell you from the jump not to root for the heroine. She’s not a good woman, except she’s not all-bad either. She’s broken. She leaks pieces of her soul into the four men she’s left behind. They each own a part of her that she’ll never get back, probably the own real parts of her personality that she’s ever freely given and each man has a small portion. It’s heartbreaking. It’s beautiful. It’s poetic, really.

Given how book one plays out, each backstory feels sort of like a novella. It’s such an interesting concept for a story. Not everyone could pull it off, but these co-authors managed to make these characters come alive and flourish. I have a favorite man, two actually. I mean, who wouldn’t? But the truth is, it’s easy to love them all. It’s easy to love Holly as well.

This is a phenomenal story filled with mystery, intrigue, four sexy men who all deserve better than what they’ve been dealt and a brilliantly manipulative woman with an honest heart. It’s a gem, sure to captivate your attention and hold you hostage through each aching experience. I can not wait for the next book!

Violet eyes. Blond hair or dark hair. Killer curves. A beauty with a smirk, some sass, an air of mystery, and of sadness. She warns them from the very beginning; don't get involved with her, don't fall for her. But it's inevitable. They do. That's when she destroys them. But with some, she destroys a piece of herself too. The football star. The politician. The surgeon. The artist. Holland stole from them but they each stole a piece of her heart, her soul. Now they have found her. Now they are all in danger from HIM.

What a fantastically twisted book! Holland is fabulous, verging on legendary. She's beautiful and knows exactly how to use her face and body. She's intelligent and prepared; she knows precisely what a situation calls for, how to read people, and how best to complete her mission. She's cunning and unintentionally cruel. Hazards of the trade. She's a complicated woman. Despite what she tells herself, she's not a bad person. She does plenty of bad things but it doesn't seem like she has a choice. She's not the one calling the shots and her safety would be at risk if she ever refused a demand. She's a puppet and HE is manipulating the strings. This is her life and she's good at her job but these four men were more than a job. With them, she neared the edge, flew too high, got too close. She's flawed. So are the men. She hurt them. She hurt herself too. The men want revenge. They want Holly. But they had no idea of the intrigue, the danger they were exposing themselves to and now they will all be lucky to survive. But just maybe by the end, if they make it out, they will have found so much more. Absolutely thrilling! Left me screaming for more, NOW.

I don't think I've read a story like this one before. It's also laid out in a way I've never seen before. I loved getting to know Holly/Holland with each guy, but knowing what would happen with each one had my heart breaking for her. I am jumping straight into Dumb Girl because I need to know what happens next.

💃For all the girls who are sweet…but a little bit psycho.💃

💃“Well, look who it is.” I smiled at them. For some of them, this would be the first time they heard my real accent. I’d perfected sounding different depending on who I was getting ready to rob.💃

💃Or, at least, that’s what the women in my family did. We were bad, bad girls, and the men made us that way. But in the end, I was responsible for the shit I did. It was my fault. And if this was my reckoning, so fucking
be it.💃

💃“Is that supposed to be… motivating?”
“No. I get paid whether you get motivated or not.”🏈

💃“I’m the best at what I do. I promise you that. It’s why you have me as your PT. If anyone can get you through the physical therapy phase of your recovery, it’s me. Other than that? Trust me, super star, I come with so much baggage you don’t want to open any of that up. Maybe when it’s over, we can be friends.”🏈

💃“As long as I’m your PT, we should probably not be seen in public together too much. Consider me your dirty little secret.”💃

💃I had a pretty good idea now where things were in his house, where I would find the item I’d been sent to take, when I deemed it time to do so.💃

💃My marks had to be enough in love with me that they were more overwhelmed with the grief of losing me than the physical theft.💃

💃I shook my head. I wasn’t going to leave yet. He needed me. I closed my eyes. Fuck. I shouldn’t have let this happen.🏈

💃“Steven, you understand I’m not with you for your money? I want your company.”
In that moment, I meant it. What happened later would be different. I could do that sometimes, mean things at one time and not another. Yep.
I was pretty much a sociopath.💃

💃He winced again and pressed the button. “Going to be better. I love you.” His eyes closed immediately after he said those words. He was high. That was what it had to be. I swallowed. I hated this part. When they fell in love with me, it was harder. Most of the time, I didn’t want to utter the words back. Most of the time, I didn’t have to force them to stay in my mouth. Steven was not a most of the time mark. I smoothed his hair off his forehead. Over and over. I had to go. Soon. Soon.💃

🏈She could have been going anywhere and returning later. But she wasn’t. Holly had left me. I knew it. What had I done? I called again. “Holly, pick up. Pick up. Please. Whatever happened, we’ll fix it. I love you.” She never answered her phone.🏈

💃Looking at the four in front of me, I was surprised they’d hooked up together. Steven. Jamie. Graham. Charles. They had very little in common, except for me.💃

💃I’d forgotten who I was in the mess of it. But I’d found my equilibrium, and now I was back on track. Steven who?💃

💃My uncle wanted to mess with the Kempners, and the son was much more useful to him. Why play with the past, when you could destroy someone’s futur💃

🤵🏻I devoured the sight of her. It was funny how someone could stab you in the heart, and that same heart could still only beat for them.🤵🏻⁩

⁦🤵🏻⁩I had always forgotten about Veronica the moment she was out of sight, but the knowledge that the girl I had been dating for a month had just finished fucking my father still made me sick.⁦🤵🏻⁩

💃There was a certain thrill that came with knowing you held someone’s heart in your hands. It should have been something I took great care in, but I’ve already told you I’m not a good girl.💃

💃As he closed the door, I realized that a part of me went with him. After Steven, and now him… would there be any parts of me left when this was all over? If I couldn’t do my job, my uncle would never let me live.💃

⁦🤵🏻⁩Standing in front of her now, it was like I hadn’t learned any lessons from how she had broken my heart. I still wanted her.⁦🤵🏻⁩

⁦🤵🏻⁩“What was life like growing up?” he asked, staring at me with interest. What was life like growing up? I laughed at the real answer to that question. Hell. That was what it was.💃

💃Being strong was definitely overrated.💃

⁦👨🏻‍⚕️⁩I took his hand in mine. If this was real—if there was any possibility of there being truth to this—I would love this instant connection. But it couldn’t be. “Charlie, you should stay away from me.” He lifted his lids. “Why?” “Because I’m broken inside.” I wasn’t lying.💃

💃He didn’t have to know it wasn’t just the aftershocks of pleasure. It was… How on earth was I ever going to leave him, when I was fairly certain he could do just what he said he could? If I let him, Charlie would fix what was broken inside of me.💃

⁦👨🏻‍⚕️⁩If I didn’t do this, he would kill Charlie. Kill me, too. But Charlie first. There was no saving him. From the moment I’d set my eyes on him, he was doomed.💃

💃“Your uncle is going to be so disappointed when he finds out you wept. Again. Really, Holly. You should be better than this by now.” I should be a lot of things.💃

💃My hand shook as I approached, and when Jamie put his arm around one of them, I didn’t think twice before dumping my full glass of champagne over his stupidly pretty head.💃

⁦👨🏻‍🎨⁩ “Not everything is about you, sweetheart,” he said coldly. I had never hated the word “sweetheart” more.⁦👨🏻‍🎨⁩

💃To everyone else, they're unattainable rockstars, the music gods who make up The Sound of Us. But to me? They'll always be the boys I lost.💃

Hey there, don’t fret about Holly and the guys. She’ll be back very shortly in Dumb Girl

*I received a free copy of this book which I voluntarily chose to write an honest review for.

Talk about a different type of book. This one was totally new for me which is always quite fun. The FMC is very skilled at going undercover for quite some time until she has the chance to acquire what she was sent for no matter how long it actually takes. Along the way she met three very different men who managed to make their way into her heart making it hard to leave when it was time. Imagine her surprise when these same men team up to hunt her down putting them all in danger without even knowing it. The cliff hanger is a doozy. It was quite enjoyable being able to flash back one at a time to learn how they all got where they are now. Smooth writing that will really hook you into the story. I cannot wait to see what happens next. I really liked it so I give it 4/5 stars.

I have read this twice. I fell in love with the characters the four men are so different from one another that it is hard to imagine the bond that they all share.

Trials and tribulations for the five. Each one needed to overcome some mistrust of the female main character to start a healing that will allow them to move to the next step.

This is a very well written story and definitely a double read. You will not be disappointed.

Ooohhhhh my GOD!!!!!! That was.... INCREDIBLE!!!! I love a good con (and God knows my Hubster is borderline obsessed with cons and the psychology behind them), but this one basically wrecked me! I fell in love with every single one of those guys, just to get my heart ripped out along with theirs and Holly's. But that ending!!! I NEEEEEEEED the next book asap please!?

This was different. And I needed something different after reading too many reverse harem romance novels which all started to blurr together.

The story is about Holly, a con-artist who specializes in seducing men to steal certain items from them. In the prologue, four of her former marks finds her at a bar. Right from the beginning we understand that there are other dangerous players in this game because Holly seems to be scared. Not just for her own sake but for the life of the four men as well.

”I looked over my shoulder. This could sour very fast if he noticed that they were here. I needed to get them gone, fast.”

The rest of the book consists of four parts where we get to learn the history between Holly and each of the four men, how they met, what Holly stole, and that she left a piece of her soul behind.

You are warned about Holly right from the beginning.

”I’ve warned you. Don’t like me. Except you are, aren’t you.”

And I did. I liked her. And by the end of the book I loved her. She’s a phenomenal character. She’s a person doing bad things, but she’s not all bad. She is also caring, vibrant and so broken it hurts.

It’s written from the point of view of both Holly and the four men and jumps between past and present. Most of it is about the past though. You get to watch the men fall in love, Holly’s confused feelings and the broken hearts she leaves behind.

It’s well worth a read.

Wow. This is a book that simultaneously makes you hate and also feel sympathy for the main character. This story is definitely a lovers to enemies story, and it ends on a cliffhanger without relationship resolution (they’re still enemies at the end).

I am really excited to read the next book and see how they (hopefully) start to resolve their tangled pasta. I have hope for the heroine even though her actions are truly hard to forgive... not necessarily her jobs, but what she does to the emotions and hearts of her ‘marks’. The four guys that we’re introduced to all seem like genuine and good people (with some momentary exceptions for Jamie), and I definitely think it’ll be difficult as a reader to get over the way she treated them in the past.

The story is really well written and seamless in that you can’t identify which author wrote which parts. The characters are interesting and I was intrigued by the story structure. This one definitely leaves you wanting the next. This was a pretty unique story for the genre, I’ve read a lot of RH and this felt different from the common tropes within the genre.

3.5 ⭐ rounding up as I did find it to be an interesting read and I'm interested in where this unlikable anti-heroine's story is going to go. The insta-love didn't do much for me, but it's key to the story so I just rolled with it.

Dark contemporary enemies-to-lovers RH featuring older characters and heroine who is a con artist and Hs are past marks.
The FMC is mid/late 20s (I think 26?) while the Hs are between late 20s and mid 30s. All have established careers and paths laid out before them, yet each is missing something in their life and some don't feel like their life is their own to live.
The story is told first person, Dual-POV, flipping between the past and the present, for the h and each of the four Hs, covering how they met through last seen each other. Their love story is heartbreaking 💔 to be seen if trauma, betrayal, and distrust can be overcome for HEA by the end.

"It was funny how someone could stab you in the heart, and that same heart could still beat for them."

Side note- I don’t know why there isn’t a different choice for a cover for this book because this one (up close of a woman’s face) is terrible.

Now the book- I didn’t think I’d like the back and forth between past and present or the reading of the men in sections but I actually enjoyed it and I got to know the men as well as Holly easier. I hated reading the parts when the men realized Holly left cause it was so sadddd and heartbreaking. The book ends in a cliffhanger so you don’t get all your questions answered. I’m pretty intrigued to find out why she’s working for her uncle and how the guys’ got together to confront Holly. You also don’t get detailed sex scenes so if you’re expecting some smutty spiceness, you won’t get that here.

Did go down a star for the overuse of “violet eyes” and that dang cover.

Overall, another book from CR Jane that I enjoyed!

I was in the mood for something quick and I picked this one at random. This book reminded me of the season one of Imposters.
I liked the POVs of the men and out of the four, I liked Charlie the most and Jamie the least.
While the book had some of the cheesiest lines ever, I loved the moments of vulnerability, love and heartbreak.
I really did like the book, it would have been a four star read for me except that I hated the ending. I wanted the reckoning part to have way more emotion than it did. Plus the whole Mafia vibe at the end😣, I am not really a fan of the whole organized crime trope.
Overall, 3 stars.

Kinda crazy and sad

This wasn’t really what I was expecting. Hollander is in unwilling con artist, who is obviously getting tired of the life. I would love to find out more of her backstory.
The whole thing is kind of sad. What she is putting the Steven, Graham, Charlie and Jamie through, not to mention all the other people she has done this to. And that she is hurting so much herself.
Interesting way to get all the guys’ stories, but effective. I don’t know how she’s going to get out of her predicament at the end though. The odds don’t seem to be in her favor. Guess we’ll see in “Dumb Girl”.

My fav line “ Stupid boys are all the same . Dumb , Dumb , Dumb”.
For some reason that stayed with me because I keep thinking these are some stupid boys but in a cute way. This is a different twisted suspense RH about Holland and her boys ( Men). A beautiful H who is living lie her whole life and the men she meets that leave a stain on her heart. I’m partial to The Quarterback but hey #whychoose, so we have The Surgeon, The Politician ( daddy issues alert) and The Artist( the only one I couldn’t connect with).
I’m excited to see book 2 to see how everything plays out in the present .

Fantastic!

This was such an enjoyable read! I seriously felt like I should have been reading with a big bowl of popcorn. This book is such a fantastic introduction into the series. Through the flashbacks we were able to see the whirlwind romances Holly had with each of the men she fell in love with. Followed by the heartbreak she causes.

I loved seeing everything unfold through each character's perspective. I'm left at the end of the book with hope that Holly and her guys can work through the pain she caused and come out on the other side with a happy ending.

A thief takes all

Stupid girls is a well written book. I’m not really a contemporary romance kind of person, but this was very well done. The characters were well thought out and developed. Holly is a very intriguing and dark girl. You really want to hate her but you can’t. You can tell there is so much more to the story that’s yet to be told, and that they are just scratching the surface here. I’ve always liked stories built on intrigue. Can’t wait to see where this one goes.

Cute con story

Stupid boys is a dark contemporary romance.

It’s follows a con artist and the four times she got in a little too deep with her marks, and damn, I get it.
Holland fell for each of them because they were more than they seemed. They had amazing qualities that just couldn’t be overlooked.
It was fun falling for them, and heartbreaking knowing Holland had to hurt them.
I cannot wait to read Dumb Girl, to find out the why of everything!!!

Different but in a good way

Refreshingly different from my other reads.
Devoured the book and was close to freak out when I realised Book 2 was available so I'm going to start that after I finish writing this and hopefully not completely ignore my children for the day.
Poor Holland, I can't wait to find out more of her back story and I just hope she doesn't end up more broken by the end of her story.

What an interesting story!

This book was so fun, different and interesting. It was something I haven't read in any other books and I loved it. It had me intrigued from the very beginning, until that cliffy of an ending. I can't wait to learn more about Holly and the organization she works for. There are so many mysteries there to discover. A great book!

Amazing!

I kept seeing this in my suggested reads and kept passing it over. Man that was a dumb choice! (Pun intended ;) this was an amazing start to a series. It was like 5 stories in one 4 individual romances and one bigger picture. Can’t wait to see how this develops.
