Piper Lawson is a Wall Street Journal and USA Today bestselling author of smart, steamy romance! She writes about women who follow their dreams (even the scary ones), best friends who know your dirty secrets (and love you anyway), and complex heroes you’ll fall hard for (especially after talking with them). Brains or brawn? She’ll never make you choose. Piper lives in Canada with her tall, dark and brilliant husband. She believes peanut butter is a protein, rose gold is a neutral, and love is ALWAYS the answer.
I read the first book before discovering that this prequel existed so I read them out of order, but I’m still glad I read this one. It clarified a few misconceptions I had that were sort of glazed over in the other book and it shows how the two main characters got estranged in the first place. The story is about Annie Jamieson who is the daughter to Rock superstar Jax Jamieson.
She was raised by her Aunt and Uncle in a modest house in Philadelphia and she thought they were her parents and called Jax her uncle. When she was ten and her Aunt and Uncle we’re having problems, Annie overheard Jax and her Aunt Grace talking and found out he was her Father. She remained with her Aunt and Uncle while her father was touring and only moved with him full time when he retired a few years ago.
Jax surprises Annie one day when he has her friend Tyler move in with them. Jax runs a music foundation for underprivileged kids and he saw that Tyler has a gift with the guitar and wanted to help him. He also will be paying for Tyler to attend the same private school Annie attends. Annie and Tyler were best friends in Philly but they had lost touch over the past eight months when he had stopped answering her calls and texts. She felt like he had let her down during a time when she had things going on and really needed him.
Annie is not liked by the school’s elite and the Queen Bee at the school, Carly has it out for her. Annie thinks the same will happen to Tyler especially when everyone finds out he is a poor kid from Philadelphia living in their pool house and her Dad is paying his tuition. However, Tyler shows them all that he could care less what they think and they all love him for it.
This is a quick little novella at 100 pages and a great introduction to all the players in this series and it gives all the background as well as some of the struggles they have gone through and are going through. It sets up the next book perfectly and is certainly worth the read!
**I received a review copy of this book in exchange for an honest voluntary review. All opinions are my own and not influenced by my source.**
I am SO EXCITED for this new trilogy. I've been craving this story ever since Tyler was introduced in the Wicked Series. Annie and him have such palpable chemistry -- even when they were kids -- that this was the story you knew was going to happen one day!
The high school antics were a little much. I think Carly could have been toned down a bit and still got the point across. But fans of the Academy YA Trope will devour this and fans of New Adult romances will like the maturer feel to the story.
I love choice to only get Annie's POV for the novella. The tension it creates by having Tyler's thoughts and motives a mystery creates an atmosphere of delicious chemistry between the two of them.
Have you ever heard the opening notes to a new song and been hooked immediately? That's how I felt when I started reading this story. This couple held me spellbound right from the start. They were introduced as kids in the Wicked series, and even then I saw the glimmer of a future love story. You don't have to read that series to understand this one, but I suspect that you'll be craving any glimpse of Annie and Tyler you can find after experiencing their connection in this story.
The definition of passion is a strong and barely controllable emotion, and that is what simmers between Tyler and Annie in every interaction they have in this book. They are practically combustible in this prequel, and I can't wait until they ignite in A Love Song for Liars! All the makings of an epic love story are contained in these pages. There is the yearning, the angst, the obstacles standing in their way, the depth of their connection, and their intense chemistry. If this is any indication of what's coming next, I say yes to everything!
Tyler and Annie's story was just perfection in a sweet short tease and has left me with such a longing for so much more. Annie's character was so endearing and I love how she is trying to make her own way even with the shadow of her mega star dad. Tyler is the new kid in town who is working with Annie's dad as well. Their story was too short but incredibly sweet and you can absolutely feel and become hooked on the chemistry between them.
Such a fantastic start to a new series. Annie & Tyler are EVERYTHING I Love about NA storytelling. They made me smile. They made me angry. And they broke my heart. Their connection is the stuff HEA is made of. I cannot wait for more of these two.
I loved this. For saying it is a prequel if you will, it is jam packed with angst, and turmoil and all the feels. First love at it's finest. It's got so much depth and left me wanting for more! I cannot wait for their story, for their love to unfold.
This prequel is a great introduction to this series. I love the way it highlights Tyler and Annie's relationship. I liked all of the backstory that leads up to Tyler coming to stay with Annie and her family. There is a lot of emotion and loads of teenage angst in this. If I am being honest, this could have just been added to the start of the first book. If you are going to read this series then I would definitely include this prequel into the mix. It definitely adds something to the series.
I am now officially dying for the end of April to come as quickly as possible now that I've gotten a taste of what could be next for Annie and Tyler. After spending the last hour or so, whipping through these pages, ignoring reality and devouring Love Notes, I'm all in for what comes next.
Piper Lawson builds the curiosity, excitement, drama, and sexiness that lurks behind every door in this yummy prequel that will lead into the 1st book in her new rockstar romance series, the Rivals trilogy. Glimpses of Jax Jamieson..BIG bonus for this fan and seeing that off the charts, smoldering chemistry between his strong, sassy daughter and the talented protege he's taken under his wing and into his home is just the perfect tempting teaser to insure that I'll be waiting to set aside a day, night, whatever, for A Love Song for Liars the minute its released! My heart was left in my throat and I want it back, Piper Lawson! Hats off to you for this fantastically enticing novella.
Pages: 72 My rating: 3 Read other books by this author in the future: yes
This is the prequel of the Rival Series, which will be published at the End of April 2020. I liked the prequel and already preordered the first full length book. Anna and Tyler knew each other when they lived in another city. Anna used to live with her aunt, not knowing that her uncle was actually her father, who took her in, when her mother abundant her. Now she is living with her father, her stepmother and the new sister in a big house, attends a private school, even if she prefers to visit public school. She is an outsider and mostly like because of her rockstar Dad. And Dad invites Tyler to live with him, while helping him hone his talent and work on Tylers music. And he did not tell Anna so.
So this will the romance between Tyler the popular guy and Anna the unpopular girls. And I want to know how this will go and if Anna will have a heart to heart with her Dad, because he did not treat her right.

Love Notes is the prequel for A Love Song For Liars, which is Tyler and Annie's story. In Love Notes we get to meet Annie and Tyler and see a glimpse of the history they shared. When Tyler shows up to stay with Annie and her family, Annie is very surprised and there is a hint of hurt to see him out of the blue after radio silence for 8 months. I loved this prequel which obviously wasn't long enough!! It left me wanting more which shows how good this series is going to be! I received an ARC of Love Notes and am voluntarily leaving my review.
This is a teaser intro for A Love Song For Liars. We first met Annie and Tyler in the Wicked series. They started out as friends with a common love of music. But as they grew up so did their feelings. Annie's dad Jax is helping Tyler launch his music career and they have both told each other that they can't be more than friends. But is that really what they want deep down? Loved the chemistry Piper always puts into her books. Because it is a teaser it leaves things hanging but it's definitely worth the read. Can't wait for A Love Song for Liars.
This really wonderful prequel serves as a wonderful introduction to Annie and Tyler (if you have not read this author's Wicked trilogy) or a tempting treat for those that already know these characters. I thought that this was a very enticing read. It may be short but it does an excellent job of bringing everyone up to speed, setting the mood and getting things off to an emotional and angst filled start. Since I finished the Wicked series I have been waiting for this couple's romance and I am super excited that my wait is almost over. You can definitely enjoy this series on its own but I do highly recommend the Wicked series if you'd like to check it out.
So you know when you go to the movies and you see an AMAZING movie trailer? Just a snippet or a preview of what's to come? That is EXACTLY what Love Notes is!
This quick read is your setup to allllll the things to come with Annie and Tyler! If you aren't already familiar with A&T from Piper's Wicked series, that's okay! That's exactly what this book is for! Love Notes is the perfect set up and tease! And it's free, so what do you have to lose? Download it. Love it. And patiently wait for A Love Song For Liars ❤️
What a special little novella! We meet Annie and Tyler in the Wicked series, but you can read this as a standalone to get you ready for their whole story. They were best friends until Tyler ghosted her. Now he's back in her life, school and home. This story is full of chemistry, family, friends and all the emotion and drama of high school and young love. I can't wait to see what Piper has in store for them both in A Love Song for Liars!!!
Absolutely loved this little Prequel for Annie and Tyler, though it makes me want their story right now. I can only imagine the journey these 2 will take with the continuation of their story.
Piper knows how to tease with this one as I know this series will be just as great as the one this breaks off from. If you love a good rock star romance this will be the one for you. I would also suggest reading the Wicked series for more goodness.
Did you LOVE the Wicked series?! Or are you brand new to Piper & just love YA, angsty romance?! Either way, this prequel is LIFE ya’ll!!! I can’t even put into words how much I freaking LOVE that Annie & Tyler are finally getting their story told. And this prequel will have you wanting, no NEEDING, to read A Love Song for Liars (Rivals book 1)!!! Get ready for an amazing ride for these two. It’s going to be EPIC!!
This is a wonderful start to a new series, Tyler has moved into Annie's fathers guest house and is now going to her school, she hasn't seen her friend in months but everything is now complicated. There is plenty of drama and angst in this prequel, it's well-written and quick to read. I can't wait to read their story....
God, I love Annie and Tyler. I spent the last hour as a ball of nervous energy, anxious and on edge, waiting for the heartache to jump start this series. I need it. I need it now.
To think this is just the prequel!!!! I cannot wait for this series!!!! Tyler and Annie ❤️❤️ The emotions crammed in to this short read is insane! I can already tell this is going to be one hell of a series!
Lawson is off to an intriguing start. Just when your heart thinks it's had enough, your emotions pull you right back in. Love Notes sets the heartache in motion. Tyler and Annie prove to be an unpredictable, angsty, irresistible combination that needs to be further explored.
Whoa whoa whoa, what a page-turning NA angsty delight! The tension! Ensue lip biting! The chemistry! Ugh! I am here for Annie and Tyler's story and this little taste has me craving it! 5 tantalizing stars for Love Notes! 💙
Loved ❤️ this book 📖 and can not wait for the Rivals .......they are going to be awesome 👏🏻 They are going to make a perfect couple ......will they won’t they .....we first met in the amazing 😊 wicked series ..... can’t wait for when A love Song for Liars comes out and to see love blossom 😍
Great start to a new series. Tyler moves to Texas to finish school and get a fresh start. He and Annie meet at school and sparks fly. Lots of drama, steam and suspense. I am looking forward to the next read! I really liked it.
I can't wait for Annie and Tyler's story! I read this after reading their first book, Love Song For Liars, and wished I would have known about it to read it first. Definitely gives you more insight of their friendship going into the first book.
I’ve always loved Piper Lawson’s writing, but.. WOW!!! What a prequel. This novella packs a serious punch in a short format. It's filled with sexual tension, off the charts chemistry, and a couple with all kinds of potential. The perfect introduction to this love story, Love Notes showcases Lawson’s ability to mix light and angsty moments for maximum emotional impact. I am so absolutely intrigued about the rest of the series, and I. NEED. MORE.
Essentially, this novella serves as our introduction to Annie and Tyler, two former friends who seemed like they might be shifting into something more until Tyler stopped responding to Annie’s texts and calls. Eight months later, and Tyler is back in Annie’s life in a big way - staying with her family, working with her dad, and attending her prestigious high school. It’s not long before Annie starts seeing the changes to their relationship, as Tyler goes from new student from the wrong side of the tracks to prince of the popular crowd.
Told exclusively from Annie’s point of view, the reader is left in a constant state of tension, wondering exactly how Tyler feels and what’s been going on in his life. I would love to get his perspective on things (and I’m sure we will), but it adds a level of mystery and intrigue to the story that takes things up a notch. Considering this is the start of a trilogy, I can only guess that their relationship is going to be complicated, and this has a little of everything going for it - friends to lovers, high school drama, budding musicians - there’s so much good stuff to explore down the line. I can’t wait to get started on the series, because this little treat is some of the best work I’ve read in weeks.
