Having gone to the neighbouring kingdom to find the Shotput of Power, Raneth returns to Giften triumphant.

Yet when he and his fiance - Dagger Bearer Aldora Leoma - reach the village nearest the king, they find it obliterated by fire. Rushing to the nearby palace reveals the royal family have fled, the Kingdom’s Shield is gone, and Giften Kingdom has been seized by Aldora’s uncle.
