Were-Geeks Save Wisconsin by Kathy Lyon

Paranormal wolf-shifter adventure and M-M romance.
Amusing and surprisingly smart. A few laugh out loud moments and quite a few Convention references, in particular Book Lovers Con. More focused on the gaming side of the attendees than readers. Overall a satisfying adventure. A romance and storyline that leads me to believe this will become a series that I will happily continue. It is the first M-M by this author.

The werewolves recruit a few geeks to their covert organization. They need the help of the sciences in protecting humanity.

A bit of a cliffhanger because of science fiction timelines, but the romance was complete.
I purchased an early copy the author arranged to sell at the convention.

Um... I don't know what to say. Except it's totally the book. Not me.

The blurb made it sound like a charming rom-com. It was not. I could tell the author tried to be funny but all I did was cringe. She tried way too hard and delivered way too little. Take the names of some of the characters for example: Coffee and Cream. I say lackluster.

Some things were explained in great detail and somethings that needed explaining wasn't explained in any detail at all. Which made me feel confused more than anything else. Most of all though, I didn't feel any connection between the MC's at all.

This review is to explain why.

This is my first book by Lyons, and it appears to be their first MM story. Personally, it didn't work for me and I probably won't be reading the author again. Their style just doesn't work for me.

First off, the blurb sounded like a rom-com plot, but there was no humour in the parts I read. There were attempts to make even character names and situations humourous, but they just came across lack-lustre. For example, characters called Mother, Coffee and Cream. Seriously? And combining aliens, shifters, and naming them Halloween, Inc; Wulf, Inc. Then the part where the MC Josh looked at Nero's outfit and miraculously came up with “you'd be better as a spartan” and then thought he was clever because the guy introduced himself as Nero. The humour was all coincidental, obvious, and weak. It just didn't work, for me.

Then there was the lack of world-building. There was a part where the MC, Nero was “slipping into an energy place”....what does that mean? It took half a page to find out that it should have been “slipping into an energy *phrase*” which would have made sense and explained the situation, but instead we were left confused. Again, later, the same character “resolved himself” – which is the first I've ever heard of a shift from one form to another described that way. And it didn't make sense, either.

I didn't like the judgments made within the story. Most of them came within Nero's POV, which just made it clear I would never like this MC, especially as a romantic lead:
“Geeks and nerds weren’t known for their physical stamina. And who knew what mental hang-ups wandered around in their massive brains?” – that comes across, whether intentional or not, as ignorant and unkind.
“David and his partner, Glen, were the living example of a healthy gay couple. They weren’t weird or cartoonish.” – Why would they be???
“Nero had gone to the conference, expecting to meet a stammering guy with thick glasses and bad acne.” What? Why?

Oh, and the ridiculous concepts used throughout. Making a deal with a fairy to go back in time and undo a mistake; forcing someone to become a werewolf against their will. Oh, and let's not forget this little gem:
““You’re going to be okay, Josh. There’s no easy way to say this, but you’re a werewolf. It’s a grand thing, really, and now you work for Wulf, Inc. See? I told you we were here to give you a job offer. Congratulations. You’re going to love it.””
Oh, and then there's the part where – in planning to force a person to become a werewolf – they decide to do it in PUBLIC! Yup. They literally decided NOT to wait until Josh's public show was over, which would only take a few minutes, but instead, force him into werewolf form in front of a PUBLIC AUDIENCE. What? Where is the logic in that? Josh even invited them to have drinks with him, AFTER the show, which would have been their perfect opportunity. They even mentioned that they had a flight in 3 HOURS, so there was no reason not to wait 5-10 minutes for an opportunity for privacy.

For how little I read of the story – I always give it 10% to try to convince me to keep reading – there were multiple continuity issues, as well as the lack of world-building. In one instance, Nero “resolved” from energy form to human at the top of a page, but at the bottom of the same page was miraculously saved from a blast because he was still in energy form. At another point, the recruitment shifts from 4 new werewolves to 5 within the space of a page.

I also wasn't keen on the fact that it kept referencing other things – Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Harry Potter, Fantastic Four – but *never* actually acknowledged those sources in the story or in a Trademarks listing. This stood out, because there are probably a lot of people who might not understand or follow the references without them, but it's also listing them as if they're readily used.

The plot was outright ridiculous, especially in the way it was executed. I didn't even make it to the part where Nero and Josh even hinted at a romance. They'd met, but there was no spark or anything between them, and the plot had become so utterly ridiculous by then that there was no point in continuing. When I nearly-hated Nero and didn't like Josh much, there was no reason to continue.

Overall, there was no world-building, a ridiculous plot, unlikeable characters, and it didn't acknowledge trademarked references at all. While it had great potential, the execution left a lot to be desired. It was lack-lustre and disappointing, no humour, no chemistry, and other reviews mark it as having a sudden and frustrating cliffhanger. I'm done.

This was such a damn disappointment...

From cover and blurb I expected a fun fantasy rom-com thing with lots of humor and hilarious situations. What I got instead is numerous accounts of assault, kidnapping, dubious consent sexual acts, serious holes in plot, descriptions and characters and a general icky feeling on my skin...
This book IS NOT a light, funny romance, it need serious tags like Dark, Kidnapping, Violence, Forced captivity, Twisted, Dubious consent.

There is no humor in this book. There is not one scene I can recall that would make me laugh. And it pains me to do this, it really does, because I had such high hopes for this book - the cute title, the awesome cover and blurb... It all let me down. I am crushed by how bad this turned out and I feel cheated and lied to by the title, the cover, the blurb, characters, plot, everything. This is not what I expected, what I was led to expect, and there really is no way to salvage my opinion of this book, because my skin is still crawling and I am still slightly nauseated, and I am sorry, but no. Just no.

2.5 stars rounded down for lots of reasons.

I really liked the concept of how everything came into existence because of people believing in them, that is a novel concept to me. And I read the whole book so I did enjoy some of it.

This is put out by Dreamspinner Press, and the only reason I didn't return it was because I got it for free. (Plus I read it before I found out it was from DSP.) I can't support a company that treats its employees like they do.

I honestly let more than a few problems go because I thought this was the authors first book. Apparently they have published sixty plus other books under another name. There's no excuse for the problems and mistakes made in this from an author with sixty books published.

The cover and the name of the book led me to believe this would be a fun romp. This is not that. At all. Bate and switch, much?

Humor is such a personal thing and the humor here is not my thing. I detest sophomoric humor based on created situations and that's what this is. So, not only are the cover and title B&S, but what little humor there is is bad.

So often things were introduced as part of the world and then tossed aside because it didn't fit what the author wanted to do next. I hate stories that act like there are no rules in their worlds. I don't care how ridiculous those rules may be as long as they're followed. Anything else is pure laziness on the part of everyone involved.

Lots of things were glossed over, important parts of the story were off page, and things that didn't matter were included.

I didn't hate this, but really I can't see myself continuing with this series or this author even if DSP is dropped as the publisher.

I am going to start by saying ‘Were-Geeks Save Wisconsin’ does end on a slight cliff-hanger. While I typically don’t mind endings that segue immediately into the next book in a series, I do appreciate a bit of forewarning. Which fortunately, I had. I will also note, the main plot was basically concluded with the subplots transitioning into what I assume will be a second book.

This was a fun read. I will admit to being somewhat taken aback by how quickly the sex showed up – about page 50 or 60 – but, well, this is a werewolf book so I shouldn’t have been surprised. The cast of characters was unconventional, the setting different (Michigan and Wisconsin), and I enjoyed the background world-building the most of all. Here, it’s belief that makes something real, it’s belief in vampires, swamp creatures, fairies and werewolves. This isn’t the first time I’ve come across this idea, but how this was written and incorporated into the overall story arc was quite adroit.

As for the two main characters, I did find Nero to be somewhat two-dimensional. He was the catalyst for the main plot line, he was the romantic foil to Josh, and I didn’t get much more from him than that. I thought Josh grew into his character as a “were-geek” and his role in the overall story. I quite liked his transformation from a somewhat immature, indecisive geek to someone who could be a strong team player.

There are several interesting sub-characters who I’m hoping will be highlighted in coming books as well. I won’t say who – half the fun of reading is no spoilers!

Overall, a solid read. The characters are predominately engaging, the plot is interesting, and the world-building fairly well done. My quirks with the story resided with the warp-speed sex, Nero being a somewhat two-dimensional character, and aspects of the story’s main plot resolution were a bit perplexing. But I won’t say exactly what – no spoilers!

Were-Geeks Save Wisconsin is the first book in Kathy Lyon’s Were-Geeks Save the World series. I’ll be honest and say I don’t know where to start with this book. I thought this story was going to be a romantic comedy. I mean, look at the cover. There are some hilarious moments, but this story was so much more.

When Nero Bramson’s werewolf pack is killed attempting to slay a demon, the powers that be at Wulf, Inc. know they need serious brainpower to fight fire with fire. Nero and his counterpart Wizard are tasked with finding uber-smart humans who just so happen to carry latent werewolf DNA.

Nero’s search leads him to Joshua Dyer Collier, a Ph.D. student at the University of Michigan. Josh is a chemist. He’s a thinker and research is what he does best. Josh is also just now starting to realize he's gay. The fact that Josh finds out he's a werewolf as he starts to shift makes Were-Geeks Save Wisconsin an interesting read.

There's so much going on with the story. A majority of the book deals with Josh and him accepting his new life of being a werewolf. You also get the love story of Josh and Nero. And you have Nero with his fixation on traveling back in time to save his team. The beginning of the story is a little slow and odd, as you are introduced to a strange character who somehow will worm his way into your heart.

Were-Geeks Save Wisconsin wasn’t anything like I expected. It was a fun read that kept my attention while trying to figure out what was going to happen. I should warn you. Nero and Josh have their HEA or HFN by the end of the book. However, Kathy did something pretty incredible resulting in the story ending in a cliffhanger. I should probably be upset by this but I'm not. I'm more amazed by the fact that she was able to add surprise after surprise to the story that resulted in the cliffhanger. I'm definitely looking forward to the next book in the series, Were-Geeks Save Lake Wacka Wacka.

I was so excited when this book crossed my path as I live in Wisconsin and I love werewolves. I was really enjoying the story and felt it was a lot of fun.

But then the author destroyed any goodwill they'd built up by ending the story on a mid-scene CLIFFHANGER! Grrrrrrr!

If I hadn't been reading it on a Kindle, I would have thrown the book across the room, I was so angry. So needless to say, the story was utterly unsatisfying for me (it's only part of a story, after all) and ended abruptly. There was no indication in the blurb that this was only a portion of a story --- no mention or hint at all that it was the first book in a series (but even if it is part of a series, a book should be able to stand on its own - if not, the author has failed IMHO). Needless to say, I will NOT be continuing on with the series or this author.

Note: I received an ARC of this book from the publisher.

DNF. The events of this book are aggravating and stupid. Wolf Inc needs to get scientific expertise to help deal with their paranormal missions and so they go and kidnap the talent they identify and turn them into werewolves without their consent because they have paranormal accord that would make it illegal to have talked to them first and gotten their consent. Meanwhile they seem to have the ability to wipe peoples memories. I found this book to be a waste of time and I'm not finishing it. This author is added to my list of ones to skip.

It is an MM paranormal romance with a geek(as aptly named) and a grunt (Nero often refers to himself for the work he does in the book).
As blurb specifies, the werewolf company needs tech support (in short geeks who know what they are doing) and recruit them. For recruiting, the Wulf Inc. has an Accord. Pertaining to which the recruitment process consists of converting them to werewolf by activating their dormant genes, kidnapping, putting them in cages and if they protest, they are zapped with cattle probes. There is also an possibility that the activated weres may not survive.
I loved... loved... loved Josh. He is:
- Stubborn - Because he refuses to back down
- Smart - 'cause you know, GEEK
- Strong - he is pursuing PhD between student loans while his stoic family neither helps him with a dime nor supports his sexuality
- A bit Whiny - but I can't hold it against him given the above circumstances of his recruitment
- Witty - given his banter with Nero
- Realistic - 'cause he argues with Nero on continued pursuance of his life. PhD and his best friend Samantha along with working for Wulf Inc.
He is all of the above. Who wouldn't love him.

I liked Nero but not more than Josh. But I believe they are a perfect Couple. Because he was -
- also Stubborn - to save all his pack mates
- Loyal as hell - even if he had to make an illegal deal to save his friends, he did it
- Straight as an arrow - he gave everything to Josh as and when Josh needed, not wanted(not his preferences, obviously)

More than that I loved their chemistry.

It was an ok book. Not great but not bad. The pacing felt weird at some parts, like things were suddenly in fast forward mode then slowed back down again. Some things were not properly addressed in the story and I felt like the main character just brushed off some bad things that happened to him. I did find some concepts in the storyline interesting though and the book ends on a cliffhanger so I probably will read the next book to see what happens.

Totally fun...

What can I say about a PhD student who ends up saving the world? Leave your belief at the door as this story takes you on a wild ride. I liked Josh, understood how life confused him, and then cheered him on in his new...normal. And Nero was such a great guy. Lots of action, some fun and funny newbies, and a quick read for me.

A badass werewolf and a tech geek, that sounds like a great entertainment.
Unfortunately it was overall not as fun and light like I expected, rather dark and angry. Nonetheless, the story had its LOL moments and I enjoyed it. Might be parts because of the excellent narration of the audiobook by Sebastian Reynolds.

I'm going to look mainly at the good points, because we get a nice mix of characters. Nero is a werewolf tactical leader and he needs computer and science minds, so he tries involving new people in the pack. The wolves have to find a way to fight a demon which is tainting a major lake. Josh is a research student with an SF Con on his mind, but he gets abducted and turned into a wolf. He has to spend much of the story adapting and deciding what his future will hold. We get to see the two different mindsets, and Nero later accompanies Josh to his family home.

There are issues which I disliked, such as introducing a see-through alien for no real reason other than to get people out of sticky situations. The main dislike is the forced removal of Josh from his life, and why did the weres kidnap him in public on a stage? They just had to wait ten minutes, and Josh had agreed to have a drink with them after his talk. Next, Nero could have given Josh a massage or a gym session if physical contact was what his changing body needed. Instead, we get an obviously forced to fit sex session between two guys who don't know each other. Now, maybe the author thinks this is how gay men would get involved, on slight acquaintance. I can't say.

Overall the point is that co-operation and acceptance of differing talents are what we need to survive. Which is a good point to make.

I am in love with this book and will be with this series, I can tell. I cannot wait for book 2, which I hope is coming real soon, because it brings me to my one pissed off point of this whole book. Cliffhanger!!!! #@@##@. WHY?????? *huffs* I guess the book being so good makes it worth it, but still not a happy camper about that one.
Josh is used to being the weak link. He is in his family, he can’t hold a relationship and he’s just really figured out why. And he can’t seem to finish what he needs to, to graduate college. But being involved in a con, made him feel like he was a part of something. And made him feel better about his life. Especially knowing he was about to headline. Until two people had to go and ruin it for him. Nero and someone else from a place called Wulf Inc. When he awakens from being kidnapped, everything that has happened to him comes back in a flash and he IS PISSED. But Nero can’t help that part. He will use whatever means necessary in order to get Josh on his side to help him fix what went wrong on his last mission. He has to fix it, he has too. And he only has so much time. But what Nero didn’t expect, was what was going on between him and Josh at the same time. And it’s causing a conflict of interest. So when the time comes for it all to happen, things get changed. And no one knows who’s doing what and who’s going to survive or not…
I can so understand Josh’s plight. It’s a catch-22 for him. And when he confronts the one thing he needs to, courtesy of Nero, it just sinks the points home. He’s pissed because he’s been changed and without permission. His life has literally been ripped away from him. But on the plus side, he’s doing research work he’s dreamed of doing. He finally gets to be with someone that gets him, after beating the crap out of him several times, (which by the way, is huge for Josh, you’ll see), but yet the anger is still there because of what was done to him. He’s learning there’s a new family for him as he gets to know some new people. Although some of them stink…..badly. But yet, it’s his own family he now longer has. So it’s almost like a no win. And he’s having to try hard to find the positives to outweigh the anger. But when he really stops and thinks, it’s a no brainer. But then I feel for Nero as well. I understand his goal and what he needs to do and why. The only time I really wanted to really shake the snot out of him, was when he purposely hurt Josh. And even then I knew why he was doing it. Heck, Josh knew too and was calling him on it.
The truth of the matter is, Nero and Josh are good for each other for lots of different reasons. The biggest being, they get to be who they are, with no filters, no masks, nothing, with each other. Yeah, they call each other on their crap, but that only makes them better. And for both of them, at the end of the day, after all the dust has settled, they have to realize what’s more important and why. And it’s not easy.
The way the author weaved this story was amazing. I loved every second of it. Except for the...you know….*cough* cliffhanger *cough*. But it’s poetry in words for me. I love this book and I know I’m going to love the next one. Because I’m excited with the developments at the end, to see where this is going to go next. Because it’s about to be one interesting ride.

I have very mixed feelings about this book. I really enjoyed the main characters. Their banter and affection were infectious.

But, there was a kind of silly amount of sexism in this book. The way that Mother and Stratos are described made me want to throw the book across the room.

While the Romani aren't referred to by the g word, the fact that a decision was made to include "Romani curses" irked me. When you build a magic system, you have the opportunity to not reinforce old gross narratives, but that was not the choice made in this book.

Other than 1 character, it seemed the other "nerds" were all white which also chapped my ass a bit.

Finally, I was excited that the setting was in Michigan, but literally none of the things that make Michigan perfect for the kind of training camp they had were highlighted, which made it feel like it could be anywhere in the midwest. Meanwhile, all the stereotypes seemed to reinforce that the midwest was obviously inferior because of their prejudices (you know, the same prejudices you find literally everywhere).

Were-Geeks Save Wisconsin
Were-Geeks Save the World, Book 1

I Picked Up This Book Because: I liked the blurb

Media Type: eBook
Source: iBooks
Dates Read: 8/1/23 - 10/15/23
Stars: DNF - No rating
Narrator(s):

The Characters:

Josh Collier
Nero
Various other characters and a demon

The Story:

I tried. I tried for months but I just can’t get into it. The blurb led me to believe this would be right up my alley but every time I start walking I veer left and put the book down. So two and a half months later I have officially given up. I wanted to like Josh and Nero but ultimately I just don’t care. I would give this a chance on audiobook but I’m not paying almost $20 for something I’m already not enjoying.

Little world building. Just modern US with "monsters." The origin story isn't anything new; I've read it elsewhere recently.
No Chemistry between leads and not enough time spent getting to know Nero's team members.
I expected this to be funny. Other reviewers said it was funny. It wasn't :(

Off-camera action and time skips ruin this plot

I was excited about this novel when I read the plot summary. Geeks getting recruited to a secret wolf MI6 type task force to save the world? Sounds like a whole lot of fun!

I went in expecting humor from the clash between the geek culture and the highly action oriented werewolf task force. I also was looking forward to a little romance, because who doesn’t love a good enemies to lovers trope?

Sadly... this book fell flat. The plot was confusing and hard to follow. It starts off fairly sequential, but about a third of the way through, the book starts taking unadvertised time skips which last weeks. That’s a problem when the whole point of the novel is that the main character only has 7 weeks to solve the fire demon problem, and travel back in time.

I felt a bit like the author fast forwarded through a good chunk of the story- one minute, our geeky protagonist Josh hates his werewolf trainer. The next minute, it’s 5 weeks later, and they are lovers. The same thing happened with the scientific research- one minute Josh is blowing up the lab, and then the next, he’s announcing he’s solved the case.

There was no build up to the romance. No character development. No geeky and awkwardly endearing interactions. No dramatic tension of whether or not the research will succeed or not. A lot of the action was off-camera, out of the reader’s view. Except for the intimate scenes, which come out of nowhere and don’t feel natural in the slightest. The result is that this book was hard to follow, and didn’t hold my attention because I didn’t feel connected to the characters enough to really feel invested.

I won’t be continuing this series.

The premise of this book is really interesting, but I hated everything else about it.

A secret society of werewolves hunts demons to protect humanity. On one such hunt, a demon pulls out a new tactic that kills all of the werewolves except one. The surviving werewolf has a fae who owes him, so he summons the fae and asks for a do over. The fae agrees and offers time travel to 20 or so minutes before the attack but adds "so this isn't wasted, what will you do differently?" The werewolf doesn't know, so he requests time. The fae says his offer will be open for a month and a half, but for each day that passes, the werewolf must spend a year in the fae world. So the werewolf goes out and turns scientists into werewolves so he has the minds necessary to make a plan, and it's fine because they won't be werewolves anymore after the do over.

There's so much potential here!

But the writing... It reads like a rough draft. The sheer number of continuity errors makes me wonder if the book even had an editor. The characters are flat and hard to tell apart. There's no sense of urgency in spite of such compelling stakes. The nerdy references are awkward and feel like they were written by someone with zero knowledge of nerd/geek culture. It definitely reads like a gay book written for straight women, and I'd go as far as compare it to bad fan fiction. "If I don't give you a handy right now, you'll die!" Ugh... And how is a gay romance also homophobic at the same time, calling gay people cartoonish and weird or whatever?

This could've been an amazing book, but it just... wasn't... I tried really hard to get through it, but each new page was worse than the last... Had to put it down at the halfway mark before I threw the book across the room...

Nero and his team of werewolves are sent to a lake in Wisconsin to kill a demon that is killing people. That is what his team does, they hunt demons and they’re good at it. But this demon is not like any they have ever encountered, and when the demon explodes in a fireball Nero is the only survivor because he was in a flow of energy, the state between being a wolf and a man.

Devastated, he does the one thing no one should ever do, he makes a deal with a fairy. In return for getting a mulligan (do over), Nero will serve in Fairy one year for every day in the deal, and he has 49 days to figure out a different ending, one where his team survives.

That began the search for geeks, because obviously they needed better gear and technology and who was better to do the research? Turns out some people are genetically werewolves, but the genes haven’t been activated so the team has a handful of possible recruits they can magically activate.
I enjoyed watching the werewolves trying to train the highly educated, intelligent recruits.

What I liked most was watching Nero with Jason, his trainee. Jason has been working on his PhD for years, afraid to actually graduate. Nero is more physical and Jason is more cerebral, frustrating both of them as they work together. It was fun watching the two spar verbally and physically.

Josh is a Chemistry PhD. student with lots of brains, but very little direction or will to actually finish his dissertation. While attending a Con and performing in a pyrotechnic dis/play Josh has his werewolf genes magically activated and he is abducted by Wulf Inc. a secret organization that polices supernatural activity. Turns out they need some smart werewolves to help them stop a demon from eating Wisconsin and possibly destroying the world. There's a surprising amount of thought that's gone into the actual ramifications of suddenly becoming a werewolf; how they are made, what happens after, and depending on type, how they control it. Nero, is Josh's trainer, and he's heavily vested in making Josh survive not only the change, but the transitions his life must take now that he is a new werewolf. Why? Nero has a secret. He's done the one thing that no werewolf should ever do. He's made a deal with a fairy. Wonderfully fun and thoughtful book. The characters are complex and interesting, and KL did manage to milk some tears from me, because there is, of course, a doomed romance! Loved this book and look forward to the next.

A paranormal romance thriller

I went into this thinking of our usual shifter story with vamps/magic included. But this really exceeded my expectations!

The story of a parallel paranormal universe with plenty of shifters, fairies , demons and whatnot. Things are getting worse in the world and the covert paranormal agency needs to recruit few genius nerds to their endeavor. Nero, a wolf shifter/soldier, who has recently lost his team in a disastrous encounter with a demon, is given that job.

Josh is a gifted chemist, lazying around with his thesis work, when he gets abducted by really weird people. On top of that, he has been turned into a werewolf! Josh along with other nerds need to wise up and work fast to save the world and Nero's old team mates.

I loved this fantasy story; it's pretty unusual and the each of the team member is intriguing. I am hoping for the next book to be available soon, though I wanted to read on the hypnotizing ninja first !

Recommended read.

I've only read a handful of Gay romance novels, and it is certainly comparable to the others I've read in that regard.

It is a fun, quirky modern fantasy book. It's not necessarily a huge world builder or anything. It doesn't speculate on major ideas. Remember the title is "Were-Geeks Save Wisconsin" and it is a modern fantasy Gay romance novel and then you'll appreciate it. I did enjoy the quirk of the fairy in the book, I think the author captured their otherworldliness in one particular scene with the fairy. It would be nice if some of the women characters had larger roles, particularly the gamer who was clearly a fun character but mostly in the background.

This is the first book I've managed to finish reading in a long time, due to COVID-19 "depression" which sort of robbed me of my concentration when reading. If asked to say anything to the author, that is what I would say. It was playful and quirky and engaging enough for that, and I read it at the right place and right time.

When badass werewolves battling supernatural evil realize they need tech support, they recruit a group of geeks with hilarious—and romantic—results.

Chemist Josh Collier is having a blast at a comic book convention when he gets the shock of his life—he’s a werewolf! WTF? Before he can howl, he’s whisked away to a secret lair by Nero, a hot guy dressed as a Roman centurion. Josh’s former life is over, and his genius is needed at Wulf, Inc.

Nero has no interest in babysitting a trainee were-geek when he’d rather be killing the demon that wiped out his entire pack. While Josh analyzes the monster’s weapon, wild passion ignites between him and Nero.

With destiny and their pack in the balance, can they survive the demon out to destroy Wisconsin?

Really interesting story and a lot of fun. A bit more sex than I was expecting but at least it wasn't the whole story and the scenes were very well done. The next episode comes out next year and I've already pre-ordered.

I went into this book expecting to be disappointed because I knew about the cliffhanger plus I rarely find the romance authors doing a find job with crossing to mm genre.
I was hooked from the first few sentences and having such a great time reading that I honestly did not care about the cliffhanger ahead.
This story was unique to me, I loved the unconventional angle this story took at each turn of events and that nothing was predictable till the end.
I loved both MCs, sympathized with their struggles and rooted for Nero to succeed in his quest though it might cost him his love with Josh.
I also loved the lack of evil female(s) that are often used as the vehicle for angst and suffering, so my respect to the author for keeping things interesting without resorting to the obvious tricks.
I even liked the twist at the end that created the cliffhanger hated by many, so I'll definitely follow these series since I've loved the writing and all primary and secondary characters.

I'm not quite sure why I even finished this....No, wait. I know why. When I started reading it I thought "hey, this must be a newbie author, so I'll support them by reading the entire book." It was only after reading that I determined this was from an experienced writer. As in dozens of published books. What was irritating was the plot had actual potential. Secret were organization needs to recruit smart guys to help them defeat the baddies. Good premise, right? That's what I thought. Then it all went down the drain with tedious and repetitive dialogue, uncompelling subplot, and a host of other problems. The characters were seriously unlikeable. Literally all of them. It felt like a waste of several hours of my life. Luckily it was on Kindle Unlimited because I'd be super pi$$ed if I paid for this.

First off, I loved this story. The world-building was amazing, and the author did such a great job with all the characters she created.

Now, onto the second point: As for the subject of 'cliffhanger', I disagree. Yes, the story does say 'to be continued', but the main character's story has a very satisfying ending, and this 'to be continued' sets up book two. It says on the title page 'Were-Geeks Save the World: Book One', so of course there will be a book two. The story does not end with one of them dangling perilously close to death, and you need to wait to find out if they survive. Instead, it ends on a good note for everyone, but lets you know the story isn't over, and I assume book two will be two different characters.
