Wicked Hot Magic

Rate this book

Salem Academy has a new strike team.

Three hot guys… and me. I’m Max: part-time demon hunter, brand new witch, and all-around bad*ss.

I’m on a mission to save Father Gabriel, the only person in my life that ever gave a sh*t. When an exorcism goes bad, demons take him to Hell. I’m going to get him back, but I can’t do it alone.

Salem Academy assigns me to hell’s hit squad with three hardcore warriors who are supposed to help me come into my powers and pull off this rescue mission. It’s going to take a miracle for us to all get along.

Ethan: Salem Academy’s lethal killer. He’s way too overprotective and his muscles distract me from my training. Just because he was my brother’s best friend in the Special Forces doesn’t give him the right to hold me back—or to claim a piece of my heart.

Noah: cocky warlock. That irritating smirk comes out whenever I mess up, but I can tell I get under his skin. I’m not sure either of us are ready for the explosion that’ll happen if we find a way to work together and combine our powers.

Tristan: he’s a Fae…need I say more? He sticks out in Salem Academy like a sore thumb—well, a hot one, anyway. I’m keeping an eye on him. The underbelly of demon politics is riddled with Fae influence and his connections can either help us… or betray us.

Muscle, magic, and deviance: that’s my team. Maybe Salem Academy knew what they were doing when they recruited me. Or maybe Father Gabriel will have answers about my past that I never saw coming.

But first? We’ve got some demon *ss to kick.

Wicked Hot Magic is Book 1 in the reverse harem academy paranormal romance series “Salem Academy.” It’s a steamy, university-level academy series. Get ready for wicked warlocks, demon hunting bad*sses, and unexpected turns you won’t see coming. Scroll up and one-click to start your first day at Salem Academy!

Couldn’t put it down.

I’m a sucker for supernatural shenanigans in Salem, and this didn’t let me down. I liked Max, but she really was a hothead. She was impetuous, arrogant and almost fanatical about rescuing Father Gabriel. It worked. She worked. But the guys at the academy? Well, they were frustrating and rubbed me the wrong way. Still, they were a great group to challenge Max, so there’s that.

My favourite part wasn’t the relationships or the discovery of self, but the ending with Father Gabriel and Dominic. That really hooked me, so even though I’m not into the potential reverse harem that might develop, I need to see how the Father Gabriel out of Hell situation plays put.

Going to be a bit vague cause I had giving any spoilers, so with that: I have yet to read something like this. The plot was compelling and that little cliff at the end was GREAT to keep you interested and from feeling like the book resolved a large portion of the story too soon. I'm interested to get to answers for the questions we were left with. What's Max's real back story?

Loved

This is a really great start to a new series by this author that I absolutely loved. Max ends up at Salem Academy to learn more so she can bring someone she cares about home. I really like her and the guys that are helping her. Can not wait for the next book to find out more about them all.

This attention grabbing well-written storyline is filled with excitement,  action, hot alphas Heroes, a kick ass heroine,  demons  and a rescue.  I loved this entertaining and engaging read.  I voluntarily read an ARC and this is my honest review.

I like the book’s concept and Max’s character development. However, it feels like there are many missing chapters to this book. Many things are not explained and come out of nowhere. I found myself trying to interpret a lot of the information and events. Everything felt incredibly rushed, but I really liked Max and Erik. I am honestly unsure of a lot of finer details regarding the other characters like Erik, Noah, and Tristan, and several things felt half developed or popped up in the story without any development. In addition to more plot written out, I would have liked to see small moments or scenes of the MC with one of the boys to build their chemistry and connection.

Interesting concept. Max is a demon hunter working with a priestly exorcist. Said priest gets taken after a botched job and she suddenly finds herself going to an academy that trains hunters - all secretly known by and involved with Father Gabriel.
So much to learn and so short a time if she wants to ever see her "adopted parent figure" again.

I think it's on the right track but needs a little...something. Just ok for me right now.

Max is on a exorcism with Father Gabriel, she keeps having the feel all is not what it there. When Father Gabriel sends her to get the demon, she has no choice but to leave him. When she comes back she finds out the demon pulled Father Gabriel to hell.
She meets people that tell her that they know her family line. If she wants to get to hell, she will have to train with them to get him back. Max doesn't want to hear it, but she will go. She has to find a way to save the man that raised her.
They take her to Salem Academy, where she will be training everyday to go save Father Gabriel. They will put her through series and tests, they will work on her strength as a demon hunter.
One of the men training her is her brother's best friend, Erik. He will not tell her anything about the brother that abandoned her. She has feelings for each of the men that work with her. Max is tired of everyone knowing things, just expecting her to go along. Takes on her trainers to open her eyes to her behavior and how it effects her learning.
Max finds out some information in regards to hell, they make plans to go get Father Gabriel. When unexpected visit requests Max's attendance in Hell, things will get very dangerous for Max and her trainers quickly.
Will Max be able to save Father Gabriel, or will she lose more than what she expected.

This was a original fast paced book, the slow burn romance is quite good. There is a little bit for everyone in this book. Can't wait to see where book 2 goes for Max.

Rather frustrating beginnings

First the good. I like the idea of the story. An exorcist trained demon hunter goes to an elite academy to learn the tools she doesn’t realize she’s lacking in order to save her mentor. Along the way three hot potential suitors draw her attention. There is a ton of potential. I’m not sure the story lives up to it. Perhaps as it progresses but not yet.
The not so good Max is antagonist, arrogant and overly self assured. In the beginning this makes her not such a wonderful main character that you want to root for. There is change, some growth and I will hold out hope that she develops more into the person towards the end of this book. Also there is a ton of missing background alluded to. This is frustrating and not much is revealed. I understand we can’t get a whole picture in one book that would be rather unreadable, however every time I read you have such a complicated and rich past but I can’t tell you because of some vow, or it’s not the right time I wanted to hit someone just like Max. At a certain point when you hunt at so much but very few crumbs are dropped it becomes more annoying than anticipatory.
So if you’ve read this far what’s the take away? I think the bones of a good story are here I’m not sure it will come to pass. I will give book two a try and see.

OMG this was fantastic! The first few chapters after Father Gabriel was taken upset me with Max a lot. Father Gabriel trained her to be his assistant during exorcisms, but she never had real combat or magical training. When others take her to Salem Academy for some intensive training, she was so full of herself that she thought she could do it all without any help. Three handsome men on the
Academy strike force will train her and teach her things she had no idea was even possible. As she started to take her training seriously I really came to like and even admire her. Not many people would willingly go to hell to confront the Devil, but she does. Oh yea, her grandmother finally deigns to acknowledge her existence only to betray her. I am excited for book two. I can't wait for more of Max, Eric, Tristan and Noah. I'm hoping we'll get to see her confront her grandmother, too. I highly recommend this action packed, slow burn book. Maximiliana, Max, is a demon hunter, she works with Father Gabriel when he performs an exorcism. On this night, something takes and unexpected turn. This time the demon is very powerful and Father Gabriel is abducted and taken to hell. Max is invited to Salem Academy and is made part of a team that will go to hell to rescue the Father. Max will be teamed up with Eric, a trained killer employed by the Academy, Noah, a warlock, and Tristan, a Fae, all gorgeous men that Max finds herself attracted to.

Unique, well written and compelling characters determined to save a Catholic priest from Hell. Max will earn things about herself, and her family that she never knew and didn't expect. Action, packed with magic demons, unexpected twists, and fascinating world building, I think this is a must read. Fantastic book!

ONE INTERESTING EXPERIENCE!!!
Ah hell! Riley showcases all the trips, snags, dips, mishaps and mayhem running rampant and stealing the show blazing this little jewel to whole new realm. You get all the heart pounding, pulse racing, block busting chills with all the chaotic thrills and untested shenanigans displaying surprising impacts. Jumping hoops, coping with the trials and tribulations keeping pace with sharp twists, clean turns and thin lines launching this baby forward sleek, shiny and tight. The realism and authenticity of the characters as their on point personalities blend and connect along with the graphically detailed scenes it's easy to interpret each scenario as they play off one another. Awesome job Riley, thanks for sharing this little gem with us.

*Spoiler Alert*
Bad*** Demon Hunter Max (FMC) works with Father Gabriel to send demons back to hell. Until Gabriel gets kidnapped and taken to hell and Max has to find a way to get him out. One of those ways is enrolling in Salem Academy where she get the training to help her do that. A school filled with people who all have their own secrets and are very unwilling to share them especially with her. Complications come in the form of three guys Erik (her older brothers best friend), Noah (a cold, rude a***) and Tristan. This book is definitely dark, fast paced and filled with not only plenty of action but also sexual tension. It all makes a pretty damn good read and the ending with blindingly good. I cant wait to see what happens in the next book?

Max was deserted by her family when she was a child, and raised be Gabriel to become a demon hunter. When Gabriel is taken to Hell, she has to attend the Salem Academy to learn m,ore skills to be able to save him. There, she meets up with Erik - her brother's childhood friend - does that mean Micah is still alive? She had thought her brother dead. Then there are Tristen and Noah - one a warlock, the other a fae - all intriguing, but first, she must rescue Father Gabriel. To do that, she must first survive yet another attack at her Grandmother's home.
But when they succeed in getting him back to the Academy, all is not as it seems - I cant wait for the next episode!

Wicked Hot Magic by Riley London is the first book in the Salem Academy series. This book is focused on a main female character named Max who was taken in and adopted by a priest who taught her to fight demons with him. The book begins with a major catastrophe that affects Max forever and will cause her to make many decisions that effect her future and that of those close to her. This book grabbed my attention and held onto it until the very last page. It is a great adventure story with a plot that involves a fantastically awesome fight between good and evil that kept me enthralled. If you love a great book then you must read this one. Wicked Hot Magic is a scorchingly hot start for the Salem Academy series.

Our heroine's mentor just got kidnapped by demons and she promises to retrieve him. Looks like she is going to need a little backup.

This is the start of a new urban fantasy story with a reverse harem thrown in as well. The story is well written and easy to read, but by no means a simple and lightweight plot. There are a lot of twists and turns here which kept me guessing and, not coincidentally, kept me turning pages to see what came next. I found both the setting and the characters to be well developed and fascinating to explore. I rather enjoyed our heroine's attitude and look forward to reading the next book.

Highly recommended.

Great book 1

I absolutely loved the MC in this book. She was vulnerable yet cocky with a sense of humor. I read through in one sitting because the plot and pacing kept me guessing. The guys were all distinct personalities and each played a different role in her journey. I'm intrigued to find out what happens next. I'll definitely be reading book to.
There are some grammatical errors, but they weren't overwhelming or distracting from the story, which is why I still gave it a 5. I liked the mix of demons, witches, fae, and religion. It felt like a new take instead of the same old plot.

From a demon hunter to a witch demon hunter, the journey for Max has been one filled with pain, sadness and sweat. When the man who bought her up and taught her everything is kidnapped by demons to hell, she puts everything on hold as she trains in Salem to go to hell and rescue him.

Fast paced, this book leaves you disoriented at times but the plot is very interesting making sure that you won't be able to leave the book.

Interesting concept. We have Max that is a Demon hunter and works along side Father Gabriel who does the exorcisms. When he is taken she is sent to the Academy. Where she meets different people, who are helping her to get to hell and be safe. She is finding more out about herself and her family. What will she find? What are these feelings she is having for some of the men? Can she save Father Gabriel? Will the others help her? What will she learn and will she get away from Lucifer?

I had high hopes for this series since the last series I read by this author was really good but being honest, I just didn't enjoy it like I thought I would. The concept of the story is good, don't get me wrong but I didn't like the characters within the book at all. Now having said that, just because I didn't thoroughly enjoy this book doesn't mean that you won't. Please read all reviews as well as the authors synopsis to see if this might be your next read.

Good

This is a pretty good book but definitely in need of an editing team, a decent amount of spelling errors and incorrectly used words and tenses. I also would’ve liked for more detailing with her and the guys when they’re all training her. Aside from that it’s a pretty decent book
