I am probably not the right audience for this book, but I still enjoyed the translation to Mazahua (the book is billingual with Spanish). Apparently this book is purposely written in haikus that from what I have noticed could not be 100% extrapolated to Mazahua I suppose due to the way the language works. For some reason, the word for worm and cricket is the same (dyox/u with a strikeout symbol on the U which can't be written on a normal keyboard).
I already know Mazahua is around 60% mutually intelligible with Mazatlinca and while sentence construction seems to be a bit different, both languages use the ja suffix for negative sentences which while sort of irrelevant for reviewing this particular book, made me feel glad that at least one little tidbit of linguistic knowledge has stayed in my head.
As for this book, the illustrations attract a lot of attention, the word formatting is very clear and easy to read and visually the book is quite pleasing. I do feel like knocking 1 star off the book because I find that the plot doesn't really make any sense. I suppose it is the story of a girl that runs outside and plays with garden worms and watches raindrops? Again, maybe I am overanalyzing a children's book a bit too much.
