Wishing for a Cowboy

Rate this book
Janie Adams has been a single parent to her nephew since he was a baby. Fifteen years later, she’s finally found out who his father might be, so the two of them travel across the country to find him. She’d do anything for this kid. But when they arrive in the small town of Wishing River, Montana, and Janie finally meets the ruggedly handsome cowboy she’d been told had abandoned his son, his shocked response changes everything.

Aiden Rivers can’t dispute this is his kid when he sees his own features staring back at him, but he had no idea Janie’s sister was pregnant when she left him. He didn’t even know she had a sister—clearly they’d all been lied to. Now he has fifteen years of fatherhood to make up for and no idea how to be a dad. This was never in his plans.

Janie sticks around to help him ease into parenting, everything from showing him how to lure a sulky kid out of his bedroom to keeping up with the latest teen-speak. Together, they surprisingly make a good team, this city girl and country boy. But when the past catches up with them, Aiden and Janie must decide what’s best for the boy who's connecting them, not only for each other…which could mean splitting them apart.

She is a hopeless romantic who is living her dream, penning happily-ever-after's for her characters in between managing kids and the family business. Writing on a laptop in the middle of the country in a rambling old Victorian house would be ideal, but she's quite content living in suburbia with her husband, their two young children, and very bad cat.

This is a Cowboy Romance, and this is the 3rd book in the Wishing River series. I have to say this book pulled me into the story from the first page, and I did not want to put it down. This was everything I want in a romance. I love that each of the characters as secrets that comes out. The characters where so great, and the two main characters need each other to find their whole shelf. The book was well written. This book is a family that took 15 years to find each other, and they are now trying to live with each other. I was kindly provided an e-copy of this book by the publisher (Entangled: Amara) or author (Victoria James) via NetGalley, so I can give honest review about how I feel about this book. I want to send a big Thank you to them for that.

Wishing for a Cowboy is a romance that you NEED to read. It has amazing characters that you genuinely root for along with a captivating plot.

Janie is an incredible woman. She was only in her teens when she became the guardian of her nephew, Will. Her sister, Maxi, just left and expected Janie to take care of Will. And she did without ever feeling mad about it. She loves Will like he is her own and the story picks up 15 years later. She is determined to find Will's father and hopes that he will take responsibility.

Aiden is a cowboy who has lived in Wishing River, Montana all his life. He is used to the single life as he doesn't have much time for himself. He owns and works at a bar that is his whole life. Things change when Janie and Will show up. Can it be real? Does he really have a son that he never knew about?

Janie and Aiden have a spark from the very beginning. I like their chemistry and how loyal they are. Janie is hesitant because she's only heard things about him from Maxi. And he isn't like what Maxi said. He is caring, loyal, and a real gentleman. I loved how he interacted with Will. It really showed how nice of a guy he is and I think Janie realized that too.

As Aiden and Janie spend more time together their relationship just flourishes. They are so comfortable with each other and can literally talk about anything. In the beginning, it seemed like they only got along for Will but now their connection and attraction is undeniable.

I give Wishing for a Cowboy 5 stars. I loved everything about this book from front to back. Victoria James' writing nestled its way into my heart and it was just spectacular to read. This is a romance that makes you feel happy, sad, giddy, and hopeful. If you enjoy a romance with a captivating story and a country boy, then you must read this book.
I adore a cowboy romance and this is one of my favorites of the year.

What a perfect book! All the feels!
Wishing for a Cowboy is the third book in the Wishing River series by Victoria James. I have not yet read the two previous but am definitely looking forward to it. From the first pages I was engaged and distraught each time life got in the way causing me to put the book down. I was fully immersed in the storyline and could not wait to see how things turned out for Will, Janie & Aiden. I felt there was a lot of real-life issues that the author did a fabulous job with writing into the story. Often we read stories with similar premises and predictably know how it will turn out. While I had made my inferences, there were a few emotional surprises along the way. This book had a lot of different feels. From Will and Aiden understandably and Janie as well. All three of these characters had so much taken away from them.

Janie comes to Montana with her nephew Will in hopes to gain financial help from WIll's father. Once she arrives and states her reason for being there, the book understandably takes on a serious tone. My thoughts? I was angry from the injustices that Janie's sister brought to them all and took no responsibility for. I won't go into any details but I will say that the author did a great job with realistically putting these three hearts back together.

If you are looking for an emotional story, set in the backdrop of Montana that is well written and engaging, I highly recommend Wishing for a Cowboy by Victoria James.

While I received a review copy from NetGalley, this is my honest and unbiased review and I thank you for taking the time to read it. :)

Wishing for a Cowboy by Victoria James is a heartwarming story of sacrifice and love. Janie has raised her nephew since she was 18 years old and has made Will her first priority. Now she’s slowly making her dreams a reality of becoming a veterinarian, but she needs some financial help and seeks out Will’s father in Wishing River, Montana. Janie and Will blindside Aiden Rivers when they step into his bar one night and change his life forever. Seeing a younger version of himself staring back at him, Aiden realizes he is a father to a 15-year-old son he never knew he had. How the three of them make this work made for a heartfelt romance with the making of a family.

Both Janie and Aiden had hard childhoods with parents that either ignored them or in Aiden’s case was abusive. It’s hard to ignore the scars a parent’s actions put on children and how as adults, it’s harder to put behind and ignore all the bad stuff. Both of them had a hard time accepting that they were good for the other individual. On the other hand, Aiden is just that kind of guy to be there for everyone else and puts others' needs first before his own. He does it with Janie and Will throughout the story and I admire his focus to put his son first. Actually, I admire them both because they show with their actions how to love a child without conditions and do it selflessly.

Wishing for a Cowboy is the third book in the Wishing River series and had an engrossing storyline of family drama and a couple finding love at last. Janie and Aiden were good for each other because they found that one person who saw the goodness and worthiness they are inside. The author has a way of writing a touching story that deals with intricate family dynamics and eventual healing of difficult pasts. I thoroughly enjoyed it and look forward to visiting Wishing River again.

This is my first read by Victoria James and It won't be my last! I will be purchasing the previous two books in the series ASAP. I really enjoyed the author's cadence and flow in her writing style too. As for Wishing on A Cowboy, it's a great angsty read with three characters that you root for. All three of them have had a raw deal and watching the journey of them becoming a strong unit is beautiful.

What a great introduction to an author and series. Thank you to Entangled Publishing and Inslinger PR for sharing this title with me.

"Wishing For A Cowboy" by Victoria James

My Opinion:

Wishing for a Cowboy" was an enjoyable and emotional story where we find Aiden the cowboy get a shock at finding out that he has a fifteen-year-old son, Will. And guess who he got this information from...his ex-girlfriend's sister, Janie, the aunt. I enjoyed all of the characters presented in this story [except 1], bringing out a well-told story from the start till the finish.

It will be quite a read as Aiden and Janie work together navigating co-parenting and guess what...by the end, will they fall in love? Now, be prepared for there to be trouble that will come up for these two as hidden secrets will come out as they try to solve this situation that they are going through.

This is where I say you will have to pick up "Wish for a Cowboy" to see how well this author brings it out so well to the reader. The story will definitely warm one's heart and leave you with a smile on your face.

Thank you to NetGalley and Entangled Publishing LLC. for the advanced ARC of this book. The opinions stated are my own.

3 stars because it was a little too slow for my liking. I wish there was more that happens. I needed some more drama from Maxi, some character build up, just something, anything, but MORE!

Wishing for a Cowboy is the third book in the Wishing River series. I have read the first two books and enjoyed them. I was a bit disappointed because I was hoping this book would be Hope and Dean's story. But I guess I will have to wait for the next book. This one involves Aiden and Janie.

Out of the three books I have read, this one was not my favorite. However, I still enjoyed it. I'm not usually a fan of the hidden baby trope, but I didn't mind this one too much. I did enjoy watching Aiden get closer to his son and realize that he could be and do better than his own father had done. The romance was sweet and I was rooting for the couple. In all, this was a sweeet addition to the series.

I tend to like Victoria James books, they are sweet and even though they do have some angst/issues they dont kill me. We have Janie who is a young mom at the age of 28 with a 15 year old, if that seems a little weird it is because Janie's sister ran off and Janie has been taking care of her nephew since he was 4, Wil is pretty much hers and she loves him and does everything for him and for Wil , he has a nonexistent mom, but you can say that Janie is that (I love these stories). Janie and Wil find themselves struggling financially and decide to get help from Wil's dad, even though they know he has never helped Wil and has never wanted him, but they have no other choice, well at least in this story. When they find Aiden, he is shocked, he never even knew he had a son and 15 years old at that, that shows Janie that she does not have the whole story and obviously Wil doesn't either since he didn't even know that his ex had sister. These three are trying to navigate there lives which wont be easy, with attitudes, past hurts, lost times and unwanted feelings. But just when they think it should be ok, it is isn't because surprise sis comes back...I hope I wetted your appetite so you can grab a copy and read.

rcvd an ARC at no cost to author...(netgalley) voluntarily reviewed with my own thoughts and opinions.

Wishing for a Cowboy, published by Entangled Pblishing, is a sweet story, told in a dual pov.
Janie Adams is a 28 year old who raised her 15 year old nephew. She works hard to make ends meet, but now she's at her wits end.
So she packs her car and Janie and Will are on their way to baby daddy.
Aiden Rivers is a bachelor, bar owner in a small town. He's in for the surprise of his life when two strangers show up in his bar.
Wishinf for a Cowboy is a well written slow burn, low on drama, highly entertaining. A great read, 4,5 stars.

[I received a digital arc for an honest review]

I always look forward to a new Victoria James release, she writes such charming small town cowboy romances that I always enjoy.

"What the hell had happened to his life? Two weeks ago, he was just ate in the bartender. Now he was a dad. And it was falling for the one woman he shouldn't."

Wishing for a Cowboy
is the story of Janie who has been raising her 15-year-old nephew Will since she was 18 and he was 4. They've hit on some hard times and have decided to turn to his birth father for help, even though they were told he wanted nothing to do with being a dad. Turns out he never knew he even had a son, and he automatically steps up to the plate. He has to work hard to earn their trust and make up for lost time and the last thing he plans to do is fall for the woman who's raised his son. Their whole situation is complicated and when Janie's sister shows back up will it destroy the delicate relationship they've been building.

"The way he said her name, as though it came from somewhere deep inside, made her feel like she was the most special woman in the world."

As usual, I loved the characters Victoria James created. Janie was so strong and selfless, loving and protective of her nephew Will. Will himself was mature for a 15-year-old and protective of his aunt but given their circumstances it's not surprising, but he still felt realistic with his attitude and typical grumpy teen behavior. Aiden is a dream book boyfriend, rough childhood, hardworking, caring, a bit gruff, but he automatically steps up to be Will's dad and be the kind of father he wishes he had growing up. Both Janie and Aiden had not so pleasant childhood upbringings that broke them down and damaged their self-esteem, but they haven't let that stop them from being strong adults.

"He couldn't risk losing her. He couldn't let her see who he really was. He couldn't scare her. But God, he wanted her. He wanted her softness, her compassion, her heart- all of her."

This is a low steam romance with a good amount of angst, and you could feel the connection between Janie and Aiden. They go from strangers to a friendship of sorts and even though they have romantic feelings for each other they always put Will's well-being first and foremost.

Overall I really enjoyed Wishing for a Cowboy by Victoria James. It was sweet and full of love and I look forward to what we book Victoria James writes up next !

Loved this book! I loved the story line and how Janie had sacrificed everything for Will, even going as far as finding his father and helping them form a relationship. Along the way, Janie realized that she had found all the missing pieces from her own life.

This is a sweet, yet poignant, story of love and sacrifice. I loved the characters and found myself falling in love with Aiden along with Janie. He is the perfectly imperfect man for Janie and I loved his story and the way he overcame his past and built new dreams.

If you enjoy the genre, you will love this book. The author is on my must read authors' list.

Wishing for a Cowboy is the latest book in Victoria James’ Wishing River Series. Janie Adams and her nephew/ward arrive in Wishing River late in the evening, arriving at Rivers’ Saloon after closing time. With only one vehicle in the parking lot, presumably the owner’s, Janie musters all her gumption and heads inside to deliver the message she has traveled 10 hours to relay. Janie has fallen on financial hard times. Trying to raise her nephew, keep a roof over their heads, and complete her own education has buried Janie in debt.

In order to keep moving forward, Janie needs help, which has brought her to Wishing River to request help from Will’s biological father, Aiden Rivers. Janie has been told by her sister, Maxi, that Aiden wanted nothing to do with her once she told him she was pregnant. Maxi was very ill as a youngster, which has now set her up to be a selfish, entitled person who thinks only of what she wants. Because of Maxi’s ineptitude, Janie became Will’s legal guardian when she was only 18.

When Janie reveals her purpose and Will, a mirror image of a young Aiden, walks in, Janie finally learns the falsehood of her sister’s story. Although totally blindsided, Aiden steps up immediately, offering shelter and demonstrating that he wants to accept responsibility in whatever form that may take.

In a deep conversation with Will, Aiden learns that Janie is deep in educational debt. He makes it go away as he feels he owes Janie so much more. As their friendship evolves, even deeper feelings develop, until Maxi appears in all her beauty with the expectation that since she is there the world will fall at her feet.

This is a wonderfully told tale of what true love and acceptance encompasses. If Janie can just learn to believe in herself; if Aiden can just learn he is worthy, and if Will can adapt to a new life, perhaps all the past mistakes can be turned into stepping stones to a better future. I very much enjoyed this book and do recommend it!

Wishing for a Cowboy is a sweet, slow burn romance between an aunt who's acted as a parent and a father who never knew that he was. Their romance is messy, since they have to navigate a possible relationship with each other, while still managing to put fifteen-year-old Will first. And that's before you throw Will's actual mother into the mix...

Aiden, Janie, and Will are all very likeable characters, ones that you'll be anxiously checking for glimpses of in future series books (and you'll probably be in luck, because Ms James writes friend groups very well :)) They've all had a lifetime of problems thrown at them, but have managed to come out on top. Not without scars, of course (one of Aiden's is literal) but as the story goes on, they slowly help each other to work through them as they inch their way to a much deserved HEA.

Though this is the third book in Ms James's Wishing River series, it can absolutely be read as a standalone. Aiden is enough of a loner that his story isn't completely intertwined with the two that came before (though dare I say he might have a little insight into Hope and Dean's future story?) and since Janie is new to the area, she gets a brief intro to prior relationships when Lanie and Sarah fold her into their friend group. A warning, though--you'll probably get *just* enough that you'll want to know their stories too...just sayin' ;)

It's been a long time since I last read a novel by Victoria James, and considering what an excellent read Wishing for a Cowboy was, that won't happen again. Wishing for a Cowboy is the third novel in her Wishing River series, and frankly, I can't wait to backtrack and read the previous two novels because this one grabbed me from the first page and never let go, and it gets 5 stars from this reader.

We meet the heroine, Janie, on the very first page, as she and her 15-year-old nephew, Will, and her Maine coon cat, Morris, are on a snowy Montana road, approaching Wishing River, in search of Will's deadbeat dad, Aidan. Sixteen years earlier, Janie's wild, gorgeous and spoiled beauty queen sister, Maxi, had a fling with equally wild playboy, Aidan, and left Wishing River not knowing she was pregnant with his child, but that wasn't quite the way it happened, or the way Maxi told her story to Janie. According to Maxi, when she told Aiden she was pregnant, he kicked her to the curb, and after she gave birth to his son, Will, Maxi, who just wasn't cut out for motherhood, turned her young son over to her 18-year-old sister, Janie, 6 years her junior, to support and raise, all while Janie had to juggle two jobs and attend first college and then veterinary school. But now, Janie is broke, her sister won't respond to her phone messages and texts, and Janie has no recourse but to find Will's father and ask him for financial help, and is she ever in for a shock.

When Janie shows up at the bar Aidan owns, they're both in for a big surprise because that's when Janie discovers that her sister lied, Aidan had no idea Maxi was pregnant when she left town after her fiancé broke into her motel room wielding a large knife, sliced Aidan's face, and dragged her out of there. Another lie of omission on her part--Maxi also never mentioned her engagement to Aiden while she was cheating on her fiancé, nor did she ever contact him about her pregnancy or the birth of their son.

Imagine Aidan's surprise to discover that he's the father of a 15-year-old son he knew nothing about--and when Will comes inside the bar to find our why Janie's request for financial help is taking so long, one look at Will, and Aidan is floored, since Will looks just like Aidan, but Aidan still demands a paternity test, and tries to let Janie and Will know that he never would have ignored his own child, nor would he have let Maxi leave town if he'd known she was pregnant, but it's going to take a lot of convincing on his part to get Janie and Will to believe he's not the cold-hearted playboy they'd been told he was, and the fact that he was instantly attracted to Janie as soon as he set eyes on her adds another complication to an already complicated situation. He's going to have a tough time earning their trust, especially when the paternity test is positive, and Aidan realizes that Maxi stole the first 15 years of his son's life from him. Since Janie is broke, he invites the pair to live in his home so they can figure out the ramifications of his sudden parenthood and what it will mean to all of them.

It was heart-wrenching to see how badly Aidan wanted to be a good father to the son he barely knew, how hurt he was by learning of his existence so late, his anger at Maxi for lying not only to him, but to Janie and Will, and how hard he worked to not only get Janie and Will to trust him, but also how hard he and Janie fought their attraction to one another, knowing that Will wouldn't approve, and always putting Will first in all their decision making.

This novel was surprising on many levels, and definitely in a class of its own when in came to the all too common surprise baby trope that is a plot device I've read in so many other novels. What this novel had was heart--real depth, real reactions from its characters, real character development, and great big helpings of angst, courage, heartbreak, touching backstories, and the meaning of just what family is all about. These characters were so expertly drawn that you couldn't help but feel their fears, their anger, their mistrust and their pain. Janie lives in Chicago and fears that now that his fatherhood of Will has been established, that Aidan will want to keep his son in Wishing River. Because she had been was so busy trying to keep a roof over their heads, be a mother to Will, and get her license to practice veterinary medicine, Janie really had no friends, no boyfriends, no family other than Maxi, and no resources. Her fear of losing custody of Will to his father is something she struggles with daily.

Aidan is also a character drawn with real depth and real emotions, and it was impossible not to feel his shock at discovering his fatherhood, his hurt at missing all of Will's childhood firsts, his anger and frustration with Maxi, and his fear that Will will never trust him, and that he might want to go back to Chicago with Janie.

As for teenaged Will, can he ever learn to trust his father? Aidan is a man who was no part of his upbringing beyond the simmering anger he felt towards Aidan, that Maxi had instilled in him with her lies. He had 15 years of mistrust to get past, but can he ever? He even warns Aidan to stay away from his Aunt Janie, still mistrusting Aidan's love and honesty, trying to protect his aunt, and all while he's quick to spot the attraction between these two adults.

Quite simply, this novel touched me on so many levels that I could hardly put it down, and I didn't, reading it from start to finish in one night, finally to its HEA conclusion early the next morning. This novel, although part of a series, worked brilliantly as a standalone, it was beautifully written, beautifully paced, a tad steamy, and certainly pulled at my heartstrings, and had me in tears more than once. I simply cannot recommend it highly enough.

I voluntarily read an advance reader copy of this novel. A big thank you to Netgalley, for the privilege. The opinions stated are my own.

This is my first ever Victoria James book and what a page turner this was. Normally I’m not a big cowboy romance fan but the blurb really persuaded me and I’m so glad I agree to reading an ARC of this book. The relationships between Janie, Aiden and Will are complex and complicated. There’s a great build up of the backstory for each of our main characters, and it’s great to get bits and pieces along the way. I didn’t think the story was overly emotional but it did keep me in place devouring every word. Each of these characters are people you want to root for and see nothing but the best outcomes for. The story felt genuine and nothing felt forced. This was a feel good story about so many deserving people and overall was a great read. If you’re looking for something that’s easy to get caught up in and devour this is a book for you!

Once again, this author delivers another wonderful story in the Wishing River series.
Aiden Rivers has lived all his life in this town. His childhood and youth was one no child should ever live. One that even though he is well respected and owns the local bar and a ranch, still leaves him feeling that he is not good enough.
Janie Adams is only 28 years old, but for most of her nephew’s 15 years, has been the only person that has truly loved and cared for him. She even becoming his guardian at a young age while her sister was more concerned about herself and hardly contacted her son.
When debts keep on rising, Janie decides that she and Will should travel to Wishing River and meet the deadbeat father. Or so she thought until she realizes that Aiden never knew of his son.
As these three begin a fragile relationship, both Aiden and Janie know that Will is their priority . But what happens when feelings develop? Will Aiden and Janie finally realize they both deserve to love and be loved?
What happens when someone from their past creates havoc?
This engaging story was at times heartbreaking as well as heartwarming . A reminder that our experiences as a child and those that are suppose to care for us, will influence the individuals once they become adults.
This was another winner in this series. I hope Dean and Hope get their story in the near future.
I was entrusted a copy of this book by Entangled Amara and Netgalley. The opinions expressed are solely my own.

Wishing for a Cowboy by Victoria James a five-star read that will surprise you. This is number three in the Wishing River series and they are delightful, but you don’t have to read them in order as they are stand-alone stories with some of the characters that do pop up in each other’s stories, but each main couple have their own story, and each story will surprise you. This time its Aiden Rivers, and he is in for the surprise of his life, in so many ways. This is a warm and cherishing story, it will warm your heart and toes as well. Its just sublime, I like how we have caught up with the other characters as well, I had read number two but not number one, but I didn’t feel lost. Victoria James is a great writer and I can only hope we get more from these characters.

Wishing for a Cowboy is a sweet but complicated contemporary romance about a devoted aunt, an equally devoted nephew, an absent mother, and a father who didn't know he carried the title. Janie Adams has been single-handedly raising her nephew. Finances are tight and when her sister finally let her know who Will's father is, Janey and Will head out of town to Montana to request help. Aiden Rivers is shocked to learn Maxi was pregnant when she left him 15 years ago. Had he known, his and Will's lives may have been different. As it is, Aiden is resentful of Maxi for keeping his son hidden, grateful for Janie stepping up and raising his son when Maxi abandoned him, and surprised to feel like the trio could be a family.

This book is wonderful. The characters are flawed but lovable. The setting was written perfectly, and the world building is great. I enjoyed learning about Janie and Will and then about Aiden. Watching the slow-burn romance develop between Janie and Aiden was exciting and stressful at times. I was engaged in their story. I was engaged in the story between Aiden and Will. Learning he was a father 15 years after the child was born had to be a complete and utter shock to the system. Aiden handled things as well as can be expected and I loved watching Aiden and Will's father-son relationship flourish.

There is a reason that Victoria James is one of my all-time favorite authors - she writes impassioned and realistic contemporary romances. Her writing is realistic and her subject matter for each book is believable. Her heroines and her heroes are not perfect, but they are perfect for one another. To date, I've read most of her books and each one manages to evoke emotional responses from me. At the very least, I always tear up during some part of the novel. Her characters are believable and realistically written.

Victoria's writing is phenomenal. Her characters, the plot, themes, drama, and passion pull the reader in and keeps them engaged. There is true emotion that can be felt by those readers that become one with the books they read. I get lost in the novels and put myself right into the middle of them. I feel for the characters and drawing on my emotions is what makes a book worth 5 stars for me. If I hurt with them, cry with/for them, laugh, or get angry, then the author did a fantastic job and has written the perfect book for me. Victoria James is amazing!

I have never read a cowboy romance, but after reading Wishing For a Cowboy, I am absolutely hooked.

Janie shows up in Wishing River, Montana with her nephew Will, and her cat. After taking caring for her nephew his whole life, it's time to face Will's deadbeat father that could be the answer to their financial woes. But Aidan is not what Janie was expecting to find. Turns out Aidan had no clue he was a father, despite the claims of Janie's sister.

After a paternity test proves Aidan's fatherhood, he is bound and determined to make up for the lost time that was stolen from him. While figuring out how to co-exist as an unconventional, somewhat fractured family, Janie is deathly afraid Aidan will see her financial trouble and take Will away from her for forever. The pair fight their attraction for each other at every turn, standing firm in the decision that they can never be more than "just friends."

This was an absolutely beautiful story. Both Janie and Aidan are deeply hurt by the challenging relationships they had in their childhood with their parents. While grappling with their trust issues, what emerges is an unforgettable love story that had me dying to know what was going to happen next. Nothing about this story is predictable.

I loved Aidan. He's so put together, despite his rough past and it was endearing to see how badly he wanted to fight to keep Will in his life, but not step on Janie's toes in the process. The way he thanks Janie and makes her feel comfortable tugged at my heart strings.

When I started reading this book, I had no idea this was the third in a series. I definitely want to check the other two books out, because now I'm hooked. Don't let a cowboy romance scare you. They are amazing and this one is definitely worth the read.

So - secret baby books are NOT my thing. Like sooooooo not my thing. The only time they work is when there is an iron clad reason behind the secret. In this case, Janie and her nephew Will are in Wyoming to meet Will and ask for financial assistance. Janie has been 100% supporting her nephew and putting herself through veterinary school from a young age because her sister wasn't able to be present in her son's life due to some pretty selfish reasons. Janie's sister told her that Will's father had abandoned them when she told him about her pregnancy - so they aren't expecting much from him - but desperate times. When they get to Wyoming, it turns out Aiden had no idea he was a father and Janie's sister had never told him she was pregnant. Because Will is basically a carbon copy of Aiden, Aiden almost immediately offers them a place stay and wants to work on getting to know his son.

There are quite a few details that don't quite make sense in the story (like Aiden paying off all of Janie's student loan debt and paying off Maxi) - but what does make 100% sense is the way Aiden handles his relationship with Will and the steps he takes to put him first across the board - including making sure that Janie stays in his life and is treated as Will's mom (not just his aunt).

Overall this is definitely a feel good story that shows the power of love and that giving birth doesn't necessarily make you a mother. There is some unexpected content that deserves a trigger warning .

I received this as an ARC from NetGalley, but these opinions are all my own.

I was provided an Advanced Reader Copy from the publisher and NetGalley for an honest review.

Wishing for a Cowboy is the third installment in Victoria James' Wishing River series. It is wonderful love story about two people who have struggled there whole lives and deserve a happy ending.

Janie has raised her nephew, Will, since he was a baby and she was only eighteen. For the majority of her life Will has been her sole focus. She and Will head for Montana to find Will's father Aiden. Aiden River is tending his bar and minding his own business when Janie Adams walks in and turns his world upside down. He was unaware that he even had a son. Even though he never thought he would be a father, he now wants to make up for lost time. Can Janie and Aiden get over their painful pasts and make co-parenting work?

Victoria James always writes the sweetest stories with characters you can't help but to root for. You do not need to read the first two books in the series to understand the storyline but there are characters from the first two books who appear in this story. I always look to a James release day, and this story did not disappoint. I am excited for the next installment.

Catching up with Aiden in the third installment, Wishing for a Cowboy, of Victoria James’ Wishing River series, was truly heartwarming...up until now he’s always been in the background, the good guy and friend...taking this journey with him, along with Janie and Will, towards a HEA was much anticipated and enjoyed. With the revisit of the characters from the first two books of the series, interwoven into Aiden and Janie’s journey, this served to keep the whole series front and center...I liked that the author was inspired to do this.

As had been alluded to in the first two books, there is a gentle awareness to Aiden that shows just how caring he is...regardless of the difficulties he lived through during his childhood. His ready acceptance of both Janie and Will into his life made Aiden that much more of an every day hero in my eyes.

I’m hoping that Hope and Dean’s story will be told next...the ground work was laid in this third story of the series...making me even more intrigued about what is store for them.

This ARC book was complimentary, provided by the Publisher and NetGalley. I am voluntarily providing my honest review.

Such a beautiful family love story!

Janie is the only mom her nephew, Will, can rely on, and with no where else to turn she shows up to let his father know that it's time for him to shoulder some of the parenting responsibilities. Only the dad, Aiden, has no idea he ever fathered a child and is understandably furious that he's been denied fifteen years of his son's life. A simple-to-explain set up leads into an emotionally complex story that shines a light on what really constitutes a parent and, by extension, a family.

I was completely swept away by this charming romance. Aiden is very obviously falling for Janie almost as fast as he came to love Will, yet the need to respect each other's roles in Will's life as well as their complicated history keeps both of them from wanting to risk it all to pursue something more. I love the secondary characters, the best friends and new friends and all the familiar Wishing River citizens, and how they support and encourage our main characters.

The HEA is heartwarming and the future looks bright for this new family. I'm looking forward to reading more in this lovely series. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

There is nothing that Janie wouldn’t do for Will who is more like her son than her nephew. She has raised him since she was a teenager herself, but she is struggling financially and isn’t sure where to turn so she decides to approach the father that wanted nothing to do with his son for help.

Aiden was only a teenager himself when he was involved with Janie’s sister and their relationship did not end well. When Janie shows up at the bar he owns he is shocked to find out that he is a father but the one thing he does know is that he wants a relationship with his son.

As they try to maneuver the new situation they find themselves in Aiden is determined to be the best father that he can be and shows Janie and Will that he can be trusted. As the relationship between Aiden and Janie develops they made a point of ensuring that Will was always the top priority as three people who have overcome so much finally get the family they all deserve.

A sweet, clean, pretty conventional but heartwarming romance.

Let's preface this with the fact that I was given this by a friend's mom to pass the time, and it is a strict + straight romance. I likely wouldn't picked this book up for myself based on the typical media I consume but I'm glad I gave this a shot!

I would compare this to a top-tier Hallmark movie. The one where the characters are all a bit too beautiful and perfect except for one major character challenge caused by external characters that they eventually triumph over via inner growth for their well-deserved happy ending. Basic, but well done basic by Victoria James.

Janie, Will, and Aiden are complex characters who experience predictable growth: Janie learns to be a bit more confident in herself and her looks and learns to rely on a man, Will grapples with the struggles of meeting and connecting with a Dad whom he's not sure he can trust, Aiden struggles with learning how to be a father despite his own shite one and the knowledge that he missed out on fifteen years of his kid's life. Victoria James does a lovely job at executing all of this.

I'm glad that Will's character was strong, and not just a plot device to connect Janie and Aiden, it's another thing to make their romance feel natural and the world realistic. It was a bit weird that Aiden falls for the younger sister of a one night stand, but it's not an impossible scenario, and their dialogue never feels forced which lends the the believability of their romance. Genuinely my biggest critique would be that Aiden focuses a lot on Janie's physical beauty (especially early on) that she's convinced she doesn't have. That was the most blatant trope that I had a bit of trouble letting go but again, their romance was more than just looks so I managed but it's a fair warning to give.

Also, this is quite literally the most straight thing I have read, ever. And like, I read a fair amount of straight romance. Gender roles are clearly defined and upheld in the narrative while obviously not restricting anyone to one thing. Like, Janie's character arc is that she can rely on a man who is a man, which like, you go girl. But also it could never be me. As someone who took multiple college electives examining gender and queer theory in music and movies, the strict delineation of gender stood out. It is not a detriment to the book by any means, but it is something I was particularly aware of and certainly flavored how I enjoyed the book. Wishing for a Cowboy is nothing extremely spectacular, but I can recognize good writing, and characters who fit together.

Wishing for a Cowboy by Victoria James, book three in her Wishing River series, is a sweet contemporary romance. Janie Adams has been the only parent her nephew, Will, has known since he was a baby; her sister being unable or unwilling to be a mom. Now fifteen years later and willing to do anything for Will, she has found the man who might be his father. Traveling across the country to find him, they arrive in the small town of Wishing River; finding the handsome cowboy she was told had abandoned his son and uncaring, sending her sister away. Upon meeting Aiden Rivers, his shocked response tells Janie that her sister just might have lied; that was definitely her MO. Seeing this boy, Aiden can’t dispute that he is his son; it was like looking in the mirror. He had no idea Janie’s sister was pregnant when she left him, let alone that she had a sister. Aiden has missed out on fifteen years of fatherhood which he intends to make up. He is fearful about being a dad, having no role model since his was abusive, crushing his life goals. Being the ever helpful, hard-working, people pleaser, Janie sticks around to help Aiden ease into parenting. She shared the tricks she learned to lure a sulky teen out of his bedroom and how to keep up with the latest teen-speak. Together, this city girl and country boy team up to make the transition to fatherhood easier for Aiden, as well as sparking a connection between them. When the past, aka Janie’s sister, catches up to them, Aiden and Janie must decide what and who is best for Will; not how it might affect their budding romance. Although, Will just might have a thing or two to say about what he wants.

Ms. James wrote an enjoyable, sweet romance that should not be missed. She provided a story with off the hard-working people, magnetism, chemistry, a caring community, and charming secondary characters helping Janie, Aiden and Will find their happily ever after. I enjoyed and highly recommend Wishing for a Cowboy to other readers.

Wishing for A Cowboy by Victoria James is a terrific story about a young woman cleaning up her sister's mess and finding love at the same time. Janie Adams and her 15-year-old nephew, Will, have arrived in a bar, looking for a man named Aiden Rivers: Will's father, who he has never met. They are desperate. Janie is too far in debt to carry on. She needs help. However unlikely, she is looking for it her, in Aiden. He looks like what she had expected: a playboy, just as Maxi had said. He didn't act like a playboy, though. And his house: a cabin didn't look like a playboy's, either. He seems thrilled, though wary, about Will. They got a DNA test although it wasn't necessary. It was obvious who Will's father was. He asked her and Will to extend their stay. They did. Maxi, of course, was not cooperating, finally speaking to Aiden, but not to Janie. Janie got a temporary job in a vet's clinic; she was studying to be a vet. She made friends. All in just a couple of weeks. Then Maxi showed up.

Janie had had Will most of his life. Maxi was not great with responsibility. Their mother had spoiled her, Janie was not gorgeous, or so she's been told repeatedly, so she would have to be smart and get a good job. She loved Will and they had a fabulous relationship. Will saw things as they were and appreciated having Janie in his life. Aiden wanted to be his father. He hadn't known, all those years ago, and now that he did, he wanted it all. This is a scenario that seems all to real, with the way life is these days It was heart-wrenching to be inside Janie's head as she navigated losing Will and never being enough for Aiden, like Maxi had been. She loved her job as a vet's assistant and knew she would love being a vet, if she could figure out a way to finish school. This story was full of everyday problems, and everyday life. Even if a reader's situation is different, they could empathize. Isn't that what reading as all about? Good book.

So far so good.
Third book of Wishing River, I have to admit that when i saw that the book wa about Aiden I was like... "meh, we don't know so much about him, he is just the cute bar owner" but man I was wrong.
I never thought that he would grow so much in me, but he did.
Aiden is a mature man, who had a rough life and so far is the most mature of all the Wishing River boys.
The fact that this story happens almost two year later from the first book, let's you know who the others are, but the main characters are older too, so Janie is 28 or 29 in this book, she is completly unexperience in life, but has a maturity that I missed in Sarah.
Here i come with SPOILERS

They both know what they want, they decide to start a relationship, even if is short and with some untalked bussines, but it is there, and is something I missed so much in the others book. The first two go from a friendship with a crush and some kisses to the weeding, and something feels off there. BUT my beautiful couple here stars a relationship and the big gesture from Aiden is ask her to stay, not marriage.

The only reason for it not having five stars is because of my lovely child Will. He is such a great boy, really muture, and emotionally stable for all the crap he lives. But I miss so much of him, I know is a romance book and the plot is Janie and Aiden falling in love, but Will is their glue, their son, and I miss more scenes of Aiden and Will bonding, they just say how good their relationship is now, and how Aiden was there for him while Maxi was there, but I need one more interaction.
And the brief miscommunication they have, they were having such a beautiful and healty relationship, and I understand that there are traumas, and fears, but I just hate miscommunication.

But in general I'm happy with the book, the speach of how much he loves her is bautiful, and I'm so ready to read the book of Dean and Hope, I been waitng since book one.
