Tap into the extraordinary power of electricity to heal your body and empower your life
Everything is electric. This seemingly simple observation has transformational repercussions on the way we think about and approach physical, mental, and emotional health. Electric Body, Electric Health is a manifesto for personal empowerment based on an electrical view of life.
Author of Tuning the Human Biofield , Eileen Day McKusick is an expert in the emerging field of electric health and has taught thousands how to transform effortlessly through learning to “think electrically.” By illuminating the biological nature of our electrical bodies, McKusick empowers readers to clear the static, noise, and resistance from this system and experience greater energy, clarity, and order.
Electric Body, Electric Health makes use of simple, easy-to-implement practices such
in order to help readers improve their health and enhance their daily lives. It will give you the tools to transform your relationship with your body, your mind, your emotions, and the electrical world around you.
I am prefacing my review by mentioning that I was trained in traditional Western Medicine and have over two decades of experience as a client, practitioner and teacher of various subtle energy healing modalities including sound. From my perspective Eileen McKusick’s book is one of (if not the) most comprehensive explorations of the topic of the human biofield, bioelectricity and vibrational healing. Her clear writing style breaks down a very complex topic into easily digested parts, bridging scientific and spiritual points of view. For many this approach to health and healing still falls into the New Age, woo-woo category, yet it is growing in credibility and application to health and healing issues that the prevailing mechanical/chemical model fails to address.
The book is divided into two parts. The first portion highlights the historical roots of subtle energy healing based on the science of sound, light and electricity. The author stresses that her approach focuses on increasing voltage rather than raising vibration. The former implies a grounding of consciousness into the body and the latter often describes a desire to disconnect and escape from unpleasant, even painful sensations and feelings. She goes on to describe how she discovered and mapped the human biofield using tuning forks to identify and release blockages in the body’s energy system. She observed that when emotions generated in response to traumatic events are not fully acknowledged and expressed, they remain in the subtle energy field. Not only can these be identified, but the nature and timing of the event can be ascertained as well.
The second part addresses biofield anatomy, including all of the major energy centers (chakras) as well as the minor centers in the feet and knees. The sections are full of information about the physical, emotional and mental issues associated with each center and are liberally illustrated with examples from her work with clients. There is a wealth of practical information that is not limited to her expertise in the use of tuning forks and sound, including practices to increase awareness, shift mental perspectives and work with the breath.
One of the things I most appreciate about the author’s style is her humility in presenting her work as a hypothesis, a work-in-progress, which is continuing to be revised and expanded as new research comes to light. For those who desire to go deeper into this topic I recommend looking at the resources listed at the end of the book and checking out her website.
My thanks to the author, St Martin’s Press, and NetGalley for the privilege of reviewing a digital ARC in exchange for an independent, honest review.
The book is focused on the what but not the how. The author explains what to find in biofield around the chakras, which is interesting to know. But, it doesn’t explain how to rectify the problem using the forks. Maybe the how is explained in the first book Tuning Human Biofield which I bought and once I have time I will read it. In the author website there are videos which you need to purchase to learn the how but they are pricy. Overall, I enjoyed reading the book and learned new things. I just want now to learn the how. Thanks to Eileen for sharing the information with us.
I was very hopeful when receiving this book, as I have an autoimmune disease and have not experienced any significant improvements using traditional Western medicine. I enjoyed the first half of this book, and grew even more hopeful as the descriptions and explanations made sense and tended to reduce my skepticism of this method. But when trying to implement the actions and visualizations suggested in the second half of this book, I came up totally empty. I don't know if I am not understanding the approach the author suggests, or if I am just not implementing properly, or if there is really no validity to this method. It seems to me that there is something lacking in the middle - the first half of the book provides very good descriptions of the basis associated with this approach. And the second half of the book seems to provide good descriptions of the various parts of the biofield and what past experiences or current issues might be blocking energy flow. However, it seems to me that this book lacks complete and very basic descriptions and instructions for how to go about implementing this approach - especially for someone who lacks any degree of background or experience in this area. While I remain skeptical of this approach (which the author encourages in the book), I will continue working on trying to implement - since I really need something to help with my health condition. Perhaps I need to try to find a practitioner of this method who can work with me to guide me.
So excited for Eileen McKusick's second book. I found out about her work when I was interested in sound healing and I bought a bunch of tuning forks from her site, though I never got to maximize them. I received an advance copy of this book through NetGalley, and I was so excited to get reading.
As I really liked the comprehensive review of physics-related literature that helps provide the foundation for an electromagnetic universe, and the human biofield. It's fascinating to see how the science has evolved, disagreements, retractions, and all. I also really appreciate the in-depth explanations and issues that potentially arise out of each chakra. I don't know of any book that's this comprehensive with regard to the mental, emotional, and physical health issues that arise from each chakra. There is also additional information on other energy centers from Eileen McKusick's bodywork experience. I was able to make the connection to the issues that she described and the physical ailments I've been experiencing. Lastly, I thought that this book would focus on biofield tuning as the only healing tool throughout this book, but I'm pleasantly surprised that Eileen focuses on simple, practical solutions and offers affirmations, meditation suggestions, and mindset changes to live a holistically healthier life. Of course, her experience with healing comes almost exclusively from biofield tuning but she offers a lot of suggestions to heal oneself that are not strictly tuning-fork based, and I really appreciated that, especially since it can be a challenge to work on yourself through tuning forks initially.
This book talks about our world of electricity. Not the electricity we pay for that powers our homes, but the electric nature of our body and our universe and how we are all tied into one. It’s fascinating, maybe a bit woo-woo for some, cumbersome in parts, but I think there’s a lot of knowledge to be learned in this book. At first she talks about her own path to healing, then she teaches and gives advice on how to deal with certain things to discover what could cause your problems and ways to find your own healing. For example, tamping down emotions can wreak havoc on us in ways we might not realize, but how can we recognize and improve upon this without seeking help with her tuning forks? She does speak a lot of that, which is interesting, and I believe we can all learn ways to be self-introspective, which she helps with. I’m not sure I’ve figured it all out yet, but she offers such great insight. It’s easier said than done from my experience, but she goes into such depth with the chakras, more so than I have ever read anywhere else. Not only that, but her writing is crisp, clear, and interesting. The book was much better than any book that try to teach about bioelectricity. It’s one I would need/want to go back through again and again to understand it all. A keeper to use a reference, because there's a lot of info in this book.
I do not think there is anyone alive who could not profit from reading this book. I also think the author, Eileen Day McKusick, is a genius, not necessarily in having a high I.Q., though she probably does, but in the original meaning of the word. By that I mean that her thought is original, groundbreaking. It takes you places you have never been before. McKusick is the originator of Biofield Tuning, the removing of trapped emotions in the human biofield, or aura if you prefer, by herding those emotions back into the central channel of the body where they can be processed and the energy reclaimed, through the use of tuning forks. If you're going "Huh?" that's an indicator of how original and groundbreaking her teachings are. If you then wonder if they work, then let me tell you from personal experience that they do, and like gangbusters. Moreover this is a splendidly written book in which ideas and techniques are explored with clarity, warmth, and humor. Highest recommendation, ever.
Unbelievably helpful read. To look at yourself not as a skin suit but as an electric being - which is not separate from others and from the foods and from the thoughts, and words and environments around us. All are one sphere of Electricity, Frequency, Conciousness.
So great! I love how it’s put together! I’m excited to read her other book as it might give me a little more detail as to how to use vibration and sound therapy for improving my health!
Great information and research on the electrical body and the human biofield! The author shares important discoveries of the energetic/electromagnetic design of nature and the human body. Those were my favorite parts of this book. I also enjoyed her deep understanding of psychological and emotional roots and blockages and how those dim our electrical potential. Vibrant health is truly about voltage and it goes well beyond the physical. The sound healing aspect of her book is wonderful and, I believe, is justified with its long use in ancient cultures. However, I felt like her empowerment of the self falls flat. It’s not that I totally disagree with her advice and encouragement, but most people cannot wade through their severe trauma and deeply-rooted emotional and spiritual problems on their own. I definitely believe in self-responsibility and taking ownership of your issues, but that takes a deep inner-transformation and renewal before people can get to that place. Also, she said a lot of things that really glorifies the self and I don’t believe that is the solution to lasting healing. I am Christian and I find her “higher self” talk kind of nauseating. That’s why I only gave this 3 stars.
While reading this book, I felt like I was visiting with a friend - one I liked, one who talked a lot and one who repeated remarks at times.
There are two parts to this book. In the first half, the author describes her background and includes noted scientists throughout the past that have worked with energy fields starting with Socrates. She talks about her work with tuning forks to heal people. I wish she described her work in more detail and if it's relatively easy for someone to buy a set of tuning forks to work wonders on the body.
The second part includes more detail about the physical anatomy and how it relates to emotional issues such as sadness and depression. She said that the number one killer in our country is heart disease. She said people keep their emotions inside and it's good to let it out. She said this is not new. Other authors have written extensively about how the body relates to energy fields.
In the end, she has fifteen recommendations on how to keep healthy with a list of things like: get enough rest, eat fresh foods, drink spring water and laugh. Also the Appendix includes a list of books, authors and the website for her company: Biofield Tuning. I believe if she included remarks in her preface from one of the authors that have written about this area of research, it would have made a powerful impact.
My thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for allowing me to read this copy.
EXCELLENT. If this topic even remotely interests you, I highly recommend it. It’s been a great companion to my reiki and other energy healing studies. I know I’ll be referring back to this book so I have it on audio and ebook, and I’ll likely buy a physical copy too!
This book was somewhat divided for me. The positive and most interesting part is the electrical aspect—how our bodies are electric and have a magnetic field around them. I have read about this before and it does have some scientific credibility. The author also provides insight into the so-called chakras, or energy fields, that divide the body into different areas, each representing different aspects, such as anger being associated with the liver area, love with the heart area, and so on. This concept is more familiar in Eastern science, which I believe Western science often dismisses too easily. We can't automatically categorize all Eastern medical research and traditions as "woo-woo" when we know that much of Western medicine often doesn't heal us, but instead makes us dependent on medications that sometimes even end up harming or killing patients. Still, we should try everything and hold onto what is true and good, as best as we can.
The author takes us through these chakras and explains how our past experiences may be stored in this electrical layer around the body. These could include traumas and repressed emotions. This is an interesting concept that hasn't gained enough traction in conventional circles, but it still holds some credibility. She also uses a particular magnetic tuning fork that she claims can adjust and balance a patient's past experiences, putting them into the correct context within the body or energy field she frequently discusses. She has had great success with this. She also provides some explanation of how this process works.
However, I wouldn't swallow everything without questioning. Eileen Day McKusick herself claims to be non-religious and isn't fond of the New Age label, which is a good sign. She attempts to ground her work in science as much as possible. Still, especially later in the book, it becomes filled with cliché self-help phrases where she "calls upon the universe" and similar expressions typical in New Age circles. As a Christian, I can't accept everything, though there were still useful insights, especially regarding the body as an electric organ. This, among other things, is discussed in older works like Body Electric by Robert Becker. What McKusick is trying to convey is that the body is more electrical than many believe, and that we have a weak electric field around us, similar to other electrically conductive instruments. I got a bit tired toward the end of the book, so it wasn't the greatest read, but it wasn’t entirely a waste either.
Someone told me about it and I looked for it online or at the library and had no luck and then the next day I was at Goodwill hunting for treasures in the bins and what book was sitting atop a large pile of clothes? I was clearly magnetized to this one.
McKusick was a Type A, stress addicted woman with an eating disorder that found body work and plumbed the depths. There she cracked into sound and energy healing and discovered our electric bodies and how she could begin to understand physical and emotional experiences people were having through those bodies and by healing the field and blockages, she could heal them.
This is not necessarily new - the body electric - I would guess that the Vedas spoke about it and we certainly have a host of experts in the field and in quantum mechanics - Dr. Joe Dispenza or Dr. Rupert Sheldrake or Robert O. Becker. But her work is exciting and graspable. How do we look at the different energy centers in our body and the issues that are tied up in them. What does a blocked heart reveal or hurt feet or knees or tapped adrenal glands.
The more I learn about our bodies and minds and how many of our illness originate in our minds, the more I have hope for new modalities that may move us away from our addiction to curing things with pills and instead beginning to calm the mind and understand the body and work together to heal ourselves and the world. That's right, I got all Kumbaya on you!!!
Recommended for people interested in chakras, acupuncture, simple ways to think about the connection between our mind and illness, or people that hear electric body, electric health and get a buzz!
McKusick’s second book conveys a broad explanation of the body as an electrical entity living in an electric universe. It is divided into two main sections. The first deals with this general paradigm shift in thinking, and the story of how she came to work with subtle energy fields.
In the second part, one chapter is devoted to each chakra where she discusses how to optimally maintain the vibrancy of that energy center through affirmation, choices, habits of speech, thought, and attitude.
As another reviewer already pointed out, this book explains more of the what, but almost none of the how, as her first book gave a broad picture of the "how."
Biofield Tuning training classes are currently sold out on McKusick’s website. Foundation classes of this healing approach are going for about $1600 with an additional $1600 for the complete practitioner training.
After reading McKusick’s first book I was curious enough to contact a local practitioner for a session to try it out. I was really surprised by how different it felt from say, a Reiki session, or other kinds of energy work. It felt powerful and yet I was at a loss for words of how to explain it other than saying, "it definitely rearranged some stuff energetically." Though many efforts are made to call this a hypothesis, much more research will need to be done to validate it and understand it fully. Still, it certainly opens some new doors of possibility.
'Electric Body, Electric Health' is a fascinating book about the electromagnetic field of the body and how frequency, vibration, and sound are responsible for the health and well being of each person. The author who is a Biofield Tuning practitioner and discoverer of what she calls the “biofield”, has devised a system that uses sound to bring coherence to the low voltage areas of the body that contribute to illness and dis-ease. McKusick uses analogies of the human body as a type of battery that relies on high voltage power for homeostasis. This clever analogy was used to explain the electric body and the more complicated scientific components. These days it’s not difficult to find many books on the subject of human bioelectricity, but McKusick goes a step further by sharing many case notes of her biofield tuning practice and the incredible results she has found, that ultimately shrink the boundaries between science and spirituality. There are several chapters about the electrical components of each chakra and energy zone of the body and how our emotions either raise or lower our voltage.
Overall this was an informative book about an obscure topic that offers incredible potential for healing and scientific exploration.
Day McKusick brings decades of experience and knowledge to this book. in the first part, she explains foundational concepts and sets up a solid understanding of the electric body. she makes it quite clear that this field is newer. there are still plenty of unanswered questions, but there are also plenty of scientific studies that help support her claims. I enjoyed the humility she brings in the section. in the second part, DM takes us on a tour of the electric body, spending time at each major energy center, what particular issues are related with imbalances at each center, and how to get back to alignment.
prioritizing my electric/energetic body has been the best thing that I have done in the past year for my overall health and wellness. I'm so fortunate to have a sound practitioner and a reiki healer who both know how to realign and recharge my energy.
to the skeptics, I get it. it sounds very woo-woo. but I'd invite you to be open minded. listen to or read this book. go experience a sound bath, sonic massage, reiki, reflexology, electro-lymphatic drainage, etc. there are a lot of options out there to reset your biofield. I am much calmer, happier, and go with the flow kind of person now that I've tapped into my electric energy and started paying attention.
I’ve long been drawn to the idea that our bodies are electric, though I couldn’t always explain why. Books on this subject kept appearing in my path, and when this one came up again, I decided to lean in. I’m very glad I did.
As I listened, I began to recognize connections between unresolved trauma and physical pain in a way that felt both validating and illuminating. The way Eileen Day McKusick describes the relationship between trauma and the body resonated deeply with my own experience, so much so that I’ve listened to the audiobook multiple times.
Her work helped me understand how holding unspoken experiences in the body can affect long-term health, and it gave language to sensations I hadn’t been able to articulate before. I was even moved to travel to Victoria to undergo tuning fork therapy with one of her practitioners, and it was deeply meaningful.
Thank you, Eileen, for your willingness to explore ideas beyond the mainstream and for the courage to share them. Your work has helped many people see their bodies—and their healing—in a new light. This book met me where I was and offered words I didn’t yet have.
The subtitle of this book says it all. As McKusick focuses on “using the electromagnetism within (and around) you to rewire, recharge, and raise your voltage.” MuKusick is the founder of “Biofield Tuning” (also known as “sound balancing”) a type of energy balancing using tuning folks. This book is for both the energy practitioner (whether Biofield Tuning, Reiki, Healing Touch or other) and the lay person. The first part of the book is the most helpful because it provides an overview of the research and science behind bioelectromagnetic therapies (AKA “energy work”). Much of this discussion centers around the concept of plasma. The second part of the book records McKusick’s experience with the body’s energy fields through a chakra lens. Although much of this information will be already known to energy practitioners, there are enough “golden nuggets” to make it a worthwhile read. For the lay person, she provides many ways to balance personal energy quickly and easily. Nothing could be more important.
A really fascinating book about the electromagnetic field, how information is stored in it, and the author’s accounts of her work using tuning forks. It would have gone over much better with a different title and different introduction. Unfortunately there was zero coverage about how to use tuning forks or how to “raise your vibration” past generic wellness suggestions (get enough sleep, drink a lot of water, etc). For all the time she spent early in the text saying how the book was about to radically change the readers life, it offered zero information about how to actually put anything into practice or do sound healing. This made the book feel more like a pitch for her website or paid services than anything else.
I also found it questionable that she suggest doing things like going outside in the sun without sunscreen in order to ~properly~ soak up its rays. Like sorry that I don’t find risking sunburn and skin cancer the way to leverage the sun’s energy!
Extremely uneven, a couple of notable inaccuracies (conductors do not have the greatest longevity nor is thyroid medicine the most prescribed in the U.S.A.), and very little information regarding "sound healing".
Most of this book is recycled self-help platitudes you can find in better books ("Think and Grow Rich", "The Tao of Pooh", "The Science of Being Great"), and the sound healing information is sparse, vague, and anecdotal (not scientific).
I'm not discounting sound healing, I'd like to try it, but I would like to see more science behind it before I pay for something so experimental (meaning, such an unproven, anecdotal method should be done for free, or even fulfilled by paying the subjects).
Absolutely love this book! She intelligently explains all of the details of her discoveries in a way that eases even the most cynical non-believer… while enlightening and giving hope~ and profound practical information~ to all of us that are already on the path!!! I listened through on Audible within three days (I was obsessed); then, I shared it with my Mom & Auntie on a road trip… but, still wanted to get the hard copy so that I could underline and highlight and use it as a reference guide for all the things that come up~ both for myself and others!!! It is a remarkable book. Heartfelt and candid, informative and groundbreaking in the field of energy medicine. Cannot recommended enough!!!!
*audiobook* this book is exactly what I needed right now. I zoned out a few times during the first couple of chapters, but after that I was hooked. I also borrowed the kindle version so I could screenshot pages I wanted to remember/have on hand as I was listening. Most of the ideas are not new to me, but I still managed to learn a lot, especially about myself. I’m always looking for ways to heal physically and emotionally, and just be a better person and break generational traumas, so this book offered some great resources for that. Can’t wait to incorporate more of these practices into my routine!
The book is better than expected. There are (imho) useful insights. There are many pages of preaching probably based on her practical experience. On some levels it seems shallow and incomplete. An example may be in dealing with Thyroid issues, there is no mention of the role of water flouradisation. In the UK everything on offer seems expensive and self focused. I suppose compared with the American allopathic system it could seem good value and it is usually good and interesting to find ways of working with energy.
This book is silly and confusing. I don't know if you should say that it's more dangerous or less dangerous, since it has real facts mixed in with it. But it's hypocritical. It relies on the hard science when it supports it, but it also relies on totally just feelings and speculation that have no scientific validity, and at the same time throw in shade at real scientific evidence. So it's a complicated book, and you can't like it when it's like this, because it's just such a mixed bag. It has good intentions behind it, for sure, but it's dangerous.
goldmine of information. Eileen does a super job of speaking to the new electric universe paradigm and how her work with tuning forks fits in to this new paradigm we are all born perfect with the tuning forks we can reconnect to our blueprint for life and shine on as our best selves were intended to be
One of my all-time favorite books about healing. So comprehensive, well researched, dynamically courageous and empowering! I Experience this book is an affirmation of what I somehow already deeply have always knew intuitively. And the universe is friendly and we are one one profound levels simultaneously original. Thank you, Eileen!
“The human body is not only an instrument, it is a self-tuning instrument. Just like you can use a tuning fork to tune a piano or a guitar, somewhat miraculously, you can also use a tuning fork to tune the body.”
“The solutions to all our problems are inside us—we just need to activate our ability to engage those solutions.”
I would highly recommend this book! It has a lot of amazing information about Biofield Tuning, how to bring your biofield energy into coherence and how to help your light shine bright for yourself and others. There were so many great nuggets of information, moments that facilitate reflection and I felt excitement to learn more with every page!
This book raised my voltage! Eileen writes in such a colorful and inviting tone. She makes complex concepts easy to digest. I can’t wait to read the revised version of Tuning the Human Biofield. This was an amazing read. I highly recommend it.
