Just... don't change. Okay? I hope you stay the way you are forever.
Decades ago, when I "graduated" from grade school in 8th grade, all the girls bought signature books to trade off, much like people signed each other's yearbooks. Never mind that I was the class pariah and got very few signatures, all expressing the most anodyne things you'd find in a greeting card. One of those was "never change." I'm not a teenager anymore, and would not go back to it. Could I go back to my 20s though? Maybe? Those were fun. :D

We all change as we get older, don't we? Many of us grow more comfortable in our bodies, and with living with ourselves and all our dumb quirks. We learn more about the world and our place in it, whether as a cog in a capitalist machine that we must contribute to to live, or as a unit in a fractious community, or as a crucial, vital part of a household or family.

Anyhow, that has next to nothing to do with this comic and I very much doubt you came here to read my maunderings about a shy kid's life. These are teens in an extremely friendly world. Even potentially awful situations like having a love rival are resolved with gentleness and an open heart. So of course Shikimori wouldn't want Izumi to change!

These utopian high school stories are nice to read now and then, and I completely understand why my partner actively seeks them out. For one thing, his junior high and high school life was much rougher than mine...

School festival time is upon us, marking a pretty significant milestone for Shikimori and Izumi. Between bunny costumes and one unimpressive lion, things seem fine, but Izumi’s unshakable spirit hasn’t only caught Shikimori’s eye…

On the one hand, this series is a hodgepodge of checkboxes as it works through literally every single cliche in the manga playbook (seriously, the sports festival is next volume) and this time it’s the rival and culture festival’s moments in the sun.

On the other, this is still a fun group of kids anchored by the surprisingly adorable ongoing romance between Shikimori and Izumi. And make no mistake, these two are very into each other in a way that is a refreshing change from waiting eight volumes for a confession and then ending the entire series.

Shikimori is as slick as they come - she’s definitely the ladykiller archetype, genders reversed, in the relationship (at least when she isn’t too embarrassed at her own actions). Even though she gets flustered now and then, she delivers some lines with the force of a sledgehammer (that second confession/dating scene is wonderful).

Izumi is also really good, just from a more, well, traditionally feminine side of things. It’s nice that he can be a bit more of a damsel and nobody looks down on him. Heck, he gets praised for his sewing! And for all that Shikimori steals many scenes, he definitely gets the best line in this volume when they talk about change.

Honestly, the rival stuff is kind of interesting because it’s a lot less traditional. Kamiya is certainly your tall, model-esque type, but she also sees what Shikimori sees in Izumi and it turns out she has his number, quite literally.

When Shikimori makes a request, she figures out what’s going on and, rather than this turning into anything even close to a catfight, Shikimori not only goes the extra step of apologizing and validating Kamiya’s feelings, she also manages to tell her what she’s needed to hear that few other people had even noticed about her.

It’s nice to see a story like this where people talk their way through things rather than just make wild declarations and scheme and oh the heart throb of it all. Instead, we get this, and it’s a welcome change. So, no, we’re not upending the high school story on the one hand, but, on the other, yes we are. It works.

3.5 stars - oh, just take your four stars, geeze. Two especially charming moments between our leads and a solid take on the rival story? I’m not made of stone, you know, even over something that’s cribbing its plots from every book that came before it.

I just love how wholesome this series is. Even the more dramatic scenes are really not that dramatic, and you don't for a second doubt Shikimori and Izumi's relationship. A romantic 'rival' to Shikimori is introduced this time - Kamiya - but there's no catty fights or tearing down of other girls. Instead, Shikimori and Kamiya have a sweet moment bonding over their shared feelings for Izumi. The situation is handled maturely and Shikimori goes out of her way to make Kamiya feel better.

Other than that, we get an aquarium date (one of my favorite settings) and also Shikimori and Izumi's backstory...that first time that Izumi asked her out, along with the events that lead up to that. Too cute!!! The final extra chapter is Nekozaki and Shikimori's backstory, which is hilarious and adorable. I love that these two competitive girls found each other.

Shikimori’s Not Just a Cutie, Vol. 4 (My Kindle Review)

The new school year has started and everyone’s preparing for the annual culture fair, and Izumi’s paired with a student who’s just like his Shikimori and has a small infatuation for him. We also see our couple celebrate Shikimori’s birthday and how they bonded at a past culture fair. There’s also a hilariously surprising bonus story. A (100%/Outstanding)

Konnichiwa to all readers 🌸

Today I bring you the review of the fourth volume of the manga "Shikimori is more than just a pretty face." Without further ado, let's begin:

💕 This volume begins with the beginning of a new school year and with the traditional high school festival, so emblematic of this student genre.

In this environment, the lady stands out when she encourages Izumi to invite her to spend the last day of the holiday with her.

On the other hand, both collaborate for the first time in the preparations, which provides predictable results for the reader, an event that will be repeated in this new installment.

💕 With the lady dressed as a fairy-tale bunny and the boy looking like a lion, she decides to take on his workload, leaving him safe in the library.

In this scenario, Kamiya appears, a popular sports student who seems deeply in love with Izumi, an aspect that becomes evident in the interrogation she carries out on her relationship and her interest in the background of the formation of couples through a lottery.

Although the athlete yearns at all costs for Shikimori's number to pair up with her, she fails to get it.

The conflict related to the ballot leaves us with a drama in which the couple cannot take the commemorative photo, at the same time that it makes it easier for Shikimori and Kamiya to establish a friendship, once the athlete expresses her disappointment in the protagonist.

💕 In the last part of this volume, the action gives us a chapter dedicated to the last day of the celebration of the festival by the organization.

However, the magic that closes this installment lies in the first anniversary of the couple and in Shikimori's birthday, where a sentimental wound is closed and a very special date takes place at the aquarium, where we discover more about her.

🌸 Conclusion: This installment stands out from its predecessors by addressing romantic drama with more depth than comedy, offering us a greater exploration of the lady's psyche.

Rating: 5🌸

Arigato gozaimasu for your time 🌸

Shikimori shows she's got brains & wisdom, too!

School culture festival. The class decides to make costumes for an animal cafe. Some things happen, and Izumi ends up pulling a 3 hour shift alone with the star of the girl's basketball team, and the school's female prince - Kamiya. And... it turns out she's had a crush on Izumi for quite a long time! Well, Shikimori & Kamiya end up alone on the school roof, and Shikimori has figured out Kamiya's one-sided crush on Izumi. They talk, and Kamiya ends up sobbing on Shikimori's shoulder, realizing she will never gain the love of Izumi, who, unaware of the real situation, well he just considers Kamiya a kind friend.

3.5/5 It’s growing on me. Volume 4 covers the school cultural festival introduces a potential new love rival for Shikimori in Kamiya. Like a lot of these stories it’s odd to see the nice guy finish first but it feels insincere.

Nothing really stand out in this manga yet but it’s like cute girl comfort food. Light and easy to read with a likable cast. At least now we’re starting to get a little more plot development.

We get it Shikimori you’re girl boss on the cover of volume 4.

This volume was charming and beautiful! The relationship between Shikimori and Izumi is growing and they have been together for one year now. Shikimori’s birthday is upon us and it’s the same day as their anniversary! Izumi makes sure to give her an adorable necklace and Shikimori tells him to never change. They really love each other and it’s so cute to see them together! I really enjoyed their date in the aquarium, they’re doing something Shikimori loves and Izumi is really happy to be there with her.

simple yet cute and fluffy romance comedy manga series in which Fdom is a must. it isn't your typical shoujo manga. it is a heartwarming love story which contains simple and nature of love between two characters and no complex drama. i haven't read up until the latest chapter, since my brother and i haven't bought the remaining books. all in all, it's a pretty good palate cleanser after a heavy story.

I loved how much growth Izumi showed in this volume. He may not be as physically strong as a lot of MLs in manga, but his inner character is so strong and loyal.

It keeps getting better! “Shikimori's Not Just a Cutie” Volume 4 covers the school’s culture fair. With an extended plot rather than an episodic volume, we get interconnected stories, including the early stages of their relationship, and a well done romantic rival.

These kids are just too sweet!
