This is a cute story about being an older sibling and having to share with your younger sibling. Franklin, is a saint of a big brother. It got pretty violent in our house between siblings, that is me and my sibling and then my niece and nephew can really go at it. Franklin seems pretty nice for a kid.
The nephew was bored with his. Bummer. He used to love Franklin when he was young. He has grown. He thought a baby sister would be terrible as an older one is rough enough. He does worship his big sister though. He gave this 1 star.
This was a cute little story about Franklin and his little sister, that my daughter brought home from school in Junior Kindergarten. Franklin realizes that being a big brother can be very hard sometimes, especially when his little sister Harriet takes a liking to his stuffed dog. Franklin realizes that being a big brother can also be rewarding which was a lovely message in this story. My daughter who is currently 4 years old really enjoys the Franklin stories. The illustrations are colourful and the characters are all animals.
Definitely recommend these books to anyone with Preschool or Kindergarten age children.
09/09: This one shows the joys and pains of having a baby sister. Franklin at once loves and resents his baby sister... and works through these feelings beautifully.
Amazon Book Description: In this Franklin Classic Storybook, Franklin likes being a big brother ... most of the time. But when his little sister, Harriet, wants to play with his favorite stuffed animal, Franklin doesn't want to share. As they tug at the toy, something terrible happens. It rips! Franklin's mother fixes it, but he remains angry and hides the toy in his closet. Then Franklin discovers it's not the toy that makes Harriet happy --- it's her big brother who brings a smile to her face. Franklin decides that maybe sharing isn't so bad after all.
This is a great storybook to get your child if you have a second baby and your older child is 'unsure' about being an older sibling. Franklin liked his baby sister but got to a point where he didn't like her anymore. He didn't want ot share with her anymore. Especially when she took his favorite lovey and she slept with it instead of Him! But his mom soon helps him learn that it's not all the various toys that help comforts his sister it's her big brother.
Helena, my seven year old, loves the Franklin series by Paulette Bourgeois. She brought more of them home for reading homework and A/R exams than any other. They're good, cute stories that usually have a theme to help kids through an issue.
Franklin and Harriet is a great book if the children in your classroom are having trouble caring about each others feelings and sharing. In the end Franklin realizes that being a big brother is important and sharing can be easy if you know it makes others feel good.
I really like Franklin...we watch him on TV, so we know most of these stories already. But this was another good one...teaches about sharing and being kind to younger siblings.
This one bugs me because Franklin and Harriet both wear jackets in the story and it appears that there is no physical way for them to put the jackets on.
I've shelved under parenting as well because my daughters are going through this almost daily. It's presented really well. They won't always share, but they do love eachother.
It's sometimes hard to share with Emilia too. She sometimes wants Simba and I need to learn how to say no and how to share too. He was good brother. I really like that he made her laugh - Khi 3
Franklin and Harriet tells the story of the struggles that come with being a big brother, but largely, how the rewards outweigh them. In this book, Franklin cheers up his little sister Harriet with his stuffed animal Sam, and from that point on, Harriet hogs Sam. Finally, Franklin gets Sam back, but contemplates how much he likes being a big brother. That day, Franklin, his mom and Harriet go on a walk and Harriet begins to cry loudly. Franklin wishes Sam was there to cheer her up, but then comes up with a plan to cover himself with a blanket and bark. Harriet begins to laugh, and Franklin’s mother explains its him that makes his little sister happy after all,
