Nightworld Academy #4

Nightworld Academy: Term Four

Rate this book

A murder on campus divides the houses, and the hidden prejudices between the races spill out into mistrust and violence. Life at the Nightworld Academy will never be the same.

Who murdered Lorna, and who framed Andrei? Proving his innocence may be harder and more dangerous than we imagined, but I'm determined to clear Andrei's name.

But helping Andrei isn't our only problem.

First, I discover my relationship with Jamie is more complicated than we both realised, and that he has a more significant role to play in my life. But I've seen his death again—and this time I know where he dies.

Then, Tobias finally opens up, and our relationship hits a new level of complicated. Tobias can strengthen my powers, but with dangerous consequences for both of us.

Ash continues to struggle with Vincent's control, and with the after-effects of his night away from the academy. As Vincent takes advantage of the unrest between the houses to segregate Gilgamesh, we uncover the darker side of his plans.

But there's more to these events than a shifter with an agenda and a vampire framed for murder. The pieces won't fit into place yet, but I'm no longer sure if the Confederacy or the Dominion is our greatest threat.

As we grow stronger, we become determined that nobody will succeed in tearing us apart. But how far will our enemies go to stop our group uniting into the powerful opponents they fear?

We're facing our most dangerous term yet, and I'm frightened we might not all survive.

Filler

Oh my god, this entire book except for the last chapter is completely unnecessary filler. There is no reason for this book to have been written other than to scam people into buying more books. So to summarize the entire book. All three boys love Maeve. Tobias wants to but can’t trust himself. So there is a lot of tug of war there but they are staying away from each other if possible because he’s “dangerous.” Then Anastasia Blackwood turns out to be behind it all and Vincent’s body is the one responsible for trying to kill Jamie. Anastasia kidnaps Maeve and Tobias for the Dominion. The End. Completely useless. I gave it two stars instead of one because I was actually able to make myself read the whole book instead of skipping to the end. Oh and if you are looking for well written intimacy scenes definitely look elsewhere.

2020 52 Book Challenge - 18) Published in 2020

I kinda really liked this book because of the focus on the interrelations between the three houses in the Academy. However, the segregation details were kept kinda slim, and the distance between the races isn't really explained well, so I wish they'd gone into that a bit more.

However, there were a couple things that bothered me. One was the lack of focus on Amelia, like I get that Andrei was the main focus and saving him, but its like they forgot that Amelia existed through the entire book. The second was that the whole point of Maeve is that she's a future sighted witch, but they barely mentioned her visions and there was nothing about trying to enhance or grow her visions and its like, if she's such a weapon to be used or such a progidy, why are they not doing this?

The murder of a witch brings the precarious balance between the houses to an end. Lorna was murdered by a vampire and it's widely believed that the murderer is Andrei. Maeve knows better. She was with him, with him all night but no one seems to care. His guilt has been decided. Proving his innocence nearly kills Maeve and opens up a new bond with Jamie. Add in Vincent's hold over Ash and Tobias's confession and Maeve has more relationship complications than she can handle. The group knows that they are stronger together and are determined to stay together despite the witch's feelings about the vampires and the shifter's new agenda of their superiority and desired exclusion.

Layer upon layer of intrigue, mixed in with secrets and lies, biases and discrimination. It's packed with so much, maybe too much. Which makes it strange that I am going to complain that it doesn't move fast enough at times. The complexity bogs down the story at times. It feels like I'm being bombarded. I am hoping that the revelation (that I LOVED) at the end of this book linking many of the storylines into one means that we can move forward and get some resolution. Then maybe, the relationships can get the focus they need to solidify. Everything is so complicated. There were times I wondered if it was worth it. Maybe Maeve would be better just taking off. The Confederacy and the Dominion both are manipulative and don't have the best interests of the entire paranormal world at heart. They definitely both want to control Maeve. The Academy is filled with teachers and admin who don't listen, who judge, and who are not present when needed. Maeve's men are emotionally or physically unavailable for one reason or another. Her best friend has disappeared and the other witches don't trust her. Her parents have checked out of her life. Too much. However, I feel that the final book will bring it all together beautifully. I trust this author's skill. I look forward to the power of Maeve and her men.

This series just gets bigger and bigger with more crazy twists and turns and mind blowing unexpected turns, to end on a high cliff that will blow your mind.
We get you see maeve grow closer to jamie as they try to find evidence that Andrei isn't a killer. Also maeve and Tobias share more secrets while trying to help Andrei too. All while poor Ash is having to deal with his brother Vincent. With some crazy ways they manage to help Ash remember things about a night away with Vincent and some of the academy boys. Which then leads to a great cliff hanger ending. Which is totally worth the wait for the next book. Wicked

This one made me super anxious

This entire book was difficult to get through because I’m anxious. Not enough good imo is happening right now for me to be thrilled with the series. It’s all hitting the fan, and just all mucked up.

What force is doing this? I was sad through a lot of this book, anxious, restless. Idk it was just tough to get through because of the guys pulling away from Maeve.

I need to see them pull together. Ugh. This is bad.

Also. Ok as someone future sighted it drives me nuts they’ve barely even touched on enhancing her visions. In the previous books she would have to fight off visions it seemed often, but this book that all fell to the wayside. Maeve doesn’t even think to attempt to see the future even though the events in this book could really use it.

Why didn’t she use future sight to see if someone was after them or to attempt to see anything of importance. She’s done nothing. They all talk about her being this weapon, this prodigy but they’ve done nothing to truly enhance her skills. She’s constantly being rescued. I’m not seeing her win things of her own volition.

The details on the segregation are also slim. Why do the races dislike each other so much?

I need to see more to think Maeve is a badass.

Seriously, another cliff-hanger! This author knows how to leave you wanting more.
At the end of book 3 Vincent told the guys they were to walk across the moors to the farmhouse. But in this book they drive there. Uh, a bit confused.
IN any case, the story just gets more intriguing.
I was happy for some extra Andrei time.
It's not that I don't like Ash and Jamie, they are both really good characters. I just prefer Andrei and Tobias.
I wonder where on earth Amelia has gone, there were no clues as to her whereabouts in this book.
But, again, damn what an ending!

Tension is rising!

The Dominion is playing havoc with everyone’s lives, and there’s plenty of tension and action throughout. We’re left on a horror of a cliffhanger, so I’m glad I don’t have to wait for Term Five to be published!

OK

The one thing I dislike most, a cliffhanger. Not only a cliffhanger, but a huge one that we don't get the answer to until the end of this year. Six and a half months from now to be precise. I wish all authors would warn us of cliffhangers in the blurb so we can make an informed choice whether to hold off and read it when all the books are out.
The story is good, but as with all of the books in this series very, very drawn out. I feel like this whole series could have been told in three maybe four books. I struggled to get through each book. Another problem I had was way too many POV's. It got very confusing at times.
I am not a big fan of reverse harems to begin with, unless they are necessary to the storyline. You run the risk of not being able to develop a connection to each character unless it is well done.
While the roots of this series are really good, I found that I was not drawn to the characters in these books as much as I would like to have been, but at the same time, I wanted to find out what happened only to find out I now have to wait almost 7 months to get my answer, which I will because I preordered the book.
When it is all said and done, this is a well written series, just a little too long and drawn out for me. If this is your genre, get it. It may be the perfect read for you.

Are you kidding me?? I was so excited to read this book thinking it would close out the series and answer all my questions. It ended in a cliffhanger, answered very few questions and raised MORE! I think a series needs to come to an end if they can't be read as stand alones (this really needs to be read in order). It appears this is going to dragging into more and will become boring for me. This book was okay, but has already started to get dull. Even though I started out liking this series, this is the for me.

The quality of these books is starting to go slightly downhill and the only thing that really kept me going in this installment was the mystery of who is behind the attacks and murder.

I found Maeve very whiny and irrational and she was so annoying charging into every situation with no real evidence or idea of what was going on. Some of the scenarios and conversations that took place were very odd too and it's mad that no one has yet had a conversation on how all the guys are after her.

I found the ending rather odd and not sure where it's going to go in the next book.

The story is well written with a very good storyline. This series is a slow-burn sweet why choose romance.

I am reading this saga in English (I usually read in Spanish). I liked the three previous books, but the quality of this one has really dropped. I can’t empathize with Maebe at all (not to say that I actually hate her).

Everyone keeps saying that she is powerful, but nobody really knows why. As a result, the girl does nothing except move between the boys (who, apparently, make her more powerful). We never see what she can actually do because she does nothing.

In addition, her relationship with each boy seems to be written separately and then mixed together later in the book. There is no real interaction. At one moment she only has thoughts about one boy, and in the next moment everything is forgotten and she only thinks about the other boy as if he were the only one.

This feels very odd, and I can’t understand their relationships or why the boys want to stay with her. There are no charismatic characters. The only female friend she had disappeared and no one seems to care. Most of the problems are solved by telling Tobias to take care of things, and he usually just says that he is handling it. Period.

I don’t know if I will read the rest of the saga, because this book felt very heavy and boring to me. Nothing really happens until 20 last pages, and then at the end everything is rushed and makes no sense.

The good part is that I can improve my English. 😄

The amount of grammatical errors in this is unbelievably frustrating. This book needs a really good proofread.

I was so eager to jump straight into this book after book 3. However, even though I enjoyed it and I’m hooked on the storyline and wherever it’s going, I’m also frustrated.

Firstly, the whole Meave didn’t think to question the roommate until after she bumps into her is very unrealistic. Even if I was to look past this, Tobias would have thought of it. Secondly, as mentioned, the grammatical errors makes reading the book difficult. Third, the Harry Potter references with Meave comparing the worlds is so ick and makes it difficult for me to take seriously. Lastly, I’m sure Ash said in the previous book his birthday was in the spring and now in this book he says it’s summer?! For these reasons it’s a 3.5 stars not a 4.

So the whole RH is coming into play now in this book and it seems everyone is okay with it. The slow burn is slow, real slow. This book is more of a closed door than the previous although it still hints at what’s happening at the time.

I ended book three rooting for Andrei whilst anticipating Tobias. Now I’m just rooting for Tobias, common book 5!

Book 1 3.5 ⭐️
Book 2 3.5 ⭐️
Book 3 4 ⭐️

good

WARNING! Cliffhanger! This is probably a 5/5 on the trauma scale- lives are changed in a big way and we don’t know what happens!

Tensions are running high at the academy.
Andrei is accused of murder and heading for Ravenhold; Ash is dealing with his controlling brother and the night on the moors; Jamie is trying to figure out Maeve’s visions, if only to prevent his own death.
And through it all, Maeve is struggling to cope, to save Andrei, Ash, and Jamie, to help Amelia, and to understand what is happening between her and Tobias.

A little longer than the previous books, this one is filled with all kinds of angst issues, trauma, a murder mystery, and magical danger.
While a lot is uncovered during the book, there’s a lot more left unresolved by the end, making for a deliciously tantalizing read.
It’s not a standalone, you absolutely need to have read the previous books in the series, but it’s an entertaining read with intriguing characters, and an underlying dastardly plot that keeps your guessing.
Recommended for urban fantasy and academy fantasy fans that don’t mind a reverse harem romance.

Back again in the land of the worlds most frustrating men who cannot make heads or tails of their feelings and, yeah! You guessed it! More of these dudes spending their time being in love but pushing away their love interest for super obscure, often unexplained reasons!

So much goes so, so wrong for Maeve and co and while this happens in every single book, holy poo on toast do things ever look grim as all hell in this one. Any time you feel like things could possibly start to be looking up, you get the equivalent of a nasty body slam to the concrete of worst case scenarios happen. So that definitely is a time.

We still have yet to have a chapter from Tobias’s POV which is crazy disappointing but the secrets this man has constantly have you in a chokehold.

The tension, the angst, between him and Maeve could be cut with a butter knife.

Honestly, when it comes to Jamie, I can’t figure out if I even like him or not. He is like a moody 13 year old with her first crush and he just makes such bad decisions it’s almost comical but mostly irritating.

We are so here for Ash and Andrei though. Heck yes, more of that please.

⚠️SPOILER ALERT⚠️

Of all the volumes so far, this is the best. Although the writing style hasn't changed much, with some scenes being cringe-worthy or with a wattpad vibe, some can be so intense that I felt every feeling and emotion as if I was in the middle of the action. This book is full of action and plot twists and the cliffhanger at the end is devastating.

One thing I don't like (and this is my personal opinion) is the fact that she has relationships with all the guys. Although I'm a fan of a love triangle, the fact that she's with all of them at once doesn't really make me a fan of her relationships. I hope there's an explanation later on why they have these connections and I hope she stays with Tobias.

Another thing I liked was that Ash didn't let Vince fool him too much, as he does in other books and quickly saw through his lies. Vince. If there's one thing that was created wonderfully in this book, it's his character, who makes you want to get into the book and punch him.

Btw, am I the only one who suspected the plot twist with Amelia and Matt from the beginning?

This book was a bit of a mixed bag for me. While there is still a strong plot, this story was all over the place. Having said that, I am still enjoying the series and look forward to finding out what else it has in store.
Sadly the narration has not grown on me and while this does not seem to be a general opinion, I have never met anyone that actually has this British accent. (Maybe the older members of the British royal family) A more diverse selection of dialects would have made the characters more recognisable.

Another average instalment. The fact Amelia isn’t really in this one is super weird and feels so poorly written - like the author couldn’t manage to juggle an extra character so had her go off somewhere. This barely works in a visual format so definitely not in written. I like maeves growing relationship with all 4 of her suitors - it’s rare to see a happy polyamory situation written well. I really don’t know why I’m still reading but I continue lol

Term?

Great Series just confused by the Author using Term # when really apart from the first book the term books 2-4 read as Term 2 so really the Author would of been better using the title Nightworld Academy Book # instead of the current title system as it doesn't make sense.

Great series

This series has amazing world building that immediately draws you in. The ensemble cast of characters is equally enthralling. This is a long range plot, so the series needs to be read in order. Definitely binge worthy!
