Fabrice Stephan is an engineer and is the author of multiple technical books on computer science. As a life-long fan of classic science fiction as well as emerging new voices from the genre, his underlying passion is the exploration of technology through fiction, which he shares in his novel Human Starpilots.

Partially inspired by the classic Robert Heinlein novel Have Spacesuit, Will Travel, Stephan’s debut novel Human Starpilots and its sequel Interstellar Starpilots explore a future world, where, desperate to escape ecological disaster on earth, humankind’s fate relies on the investment in a unique and limited group of only six pilots capable of surviving the training of managing hyperspace jumps learned from a borrowed Alien technology.

And, if the risks and challenges these brave pilots faces wasn’t enough, contact and collaboration with the Alien Federation begins to reveal even more surprises.

When he is not exploring other worlds through science fiction, or computer technology through his work, Fabrice Stephan has traversed much of the globe. Born in the USA, he has lived in France, Denmark and Australia before settling in Macon, near the border of Burgundy, with his wife and two kids.

Not everyone can become an interstellar starpilot. Training is extenuating and competition is hard, not to mention that they have to be capable to control nanites, special nano-robots. Pilots who can’t withstand them will be consumed by them.
Brian and Emily leave their Earth to become interstellar starpilots as an offer of their home planet to become a member of the Federation, and mostly to get support from it, especially technological support of which Earth is in dire need.
During their adventure to the school, they visit different worlds, from Adheek to Alkath passing by Volpre. Their final destination the Alkath academy.

Interstellar starpilots: into the core worlds (Human starpilots Book 2) by Fabrice Stephan is a great story about outer worlds, alien worlds dealing with the same issues Earth faces today, ecosystem collapse and the use of technology to stop it, considering that technology itself brought to the collapse. It’s a galaxy to explore with the characters, humans and aliens alike. If you like alien worlds, you don’t want to miss this book.
What I enjoyed the most are some female characters throughout the novel. Strong-willed women determined to fight for what they believe in, who sometimes give in to uncertainties and doubt before making up their minds on their next goal. They usually don’t sparkle in combat prowess, but like real women have other strengths.

SPOILED ALERT.

My least favourite character was Emily. She’s a wonderful character, who leaves Earth knowing she won’t be able to return if she fails to become an interstellar pilot. With her unsettling doubts about her future, she starts off as another incredible character, to fall into the Red Cross nurse syndrome, which killed her mercilessly to my eyes.

On the surface, "Interstellar Star Pilot' is the story of two uniquely talented, young Earth-born star pilots in training, Brian and Emily.. These two are Earth's first to make it through the initial training as star pilots. Now they must prove they can compete against the best the trainees Core Worlds of the Federation have to offer, and come out on top. Only the competition is stiffer, and more deadly, than anyone could imagine. Ultimately, the lives of an entire planet depend on Brian's ability to overcome his worst fears.

But this is no simple story of one budding pilot. This is an epic tale of fallen empires, Luddite religion, and competing quests for mastery of the human universe. There are multiple stories spanning thousands of years woven around Brian's story, each complex enough to merit its own book. If you enjoy multi-storyline epics, this is the book for you.
