This was a fun one. What I mean is that the whole story was incredible all together. The characters were magical. While the heroine didn’t have any harsh problems, she was such a good character. She was considerate, forgiving, and kind. Even if she was scared of something, she went forward with the thought of helping a friend. The hero, while I didn’t like him much in the starting, I grew to appreciate him. He was a wonderfully constructed character. With lots of layers. I loved getting to know what was going inside his head at times. I loved the deep meaning of alcohol here. I like that it wasn’t portrayed as just a go-to thing but something that held true meaning. I loved that the car crash made so many people grow.
The story follows Selina. She is a good student, has a great group of friends, hates driving, and is a bit shy. She has new neighbours after the Singhs moved out. They are absolutely obnoxious. At least Cole is. He is her age and goes to the private school in a rich area. They’ve downgraded after some family issues. Cole’s younger brother becomes friends with Selina’s younger siblings and his mother becomes friends with her mother. None of her family like Cole much though. He has loud parties, doesn't take care of his brother, is rude and arrogant. He’s a bad boy that’s for sure. Selina knows there is more to him. She’s seen a couple of his good parts when he smiles or does something nice. But he still isn’t a good guy.
I wrote this voluntary review in exchange for an ARC copy.
-‘I absolutely definitely wasn’t in love with him. No way. I could not be in love with Cole Parsons.’-
-‘Cole wasn’t the total bad boy he projected to be. Maybe he had an image to protect. But today he’d shown me a hint that he was slightly human.’-
I thought, when I picked up this book, that this was a new-to-me author (I read, on average, about a book every other day so it’s hard to keep track). But as I began reading, I quickly realized that some of the secondary characters were very familiar to me and I remembered I had read some of her work previously. The author does a great job of explaining the characters to her audience so we aren’t lost but she leaves out just enough to entice the reader to want to go back and read the backstories of those characters. This is a series that can be read as standalone books, but, as always, these books are always best read in order.
This is a clean teen romance without any swearing. I liked the story and would recommend it.
This is the story of Cole and Selina, the fourth book in the Young Love series. The series tells the reader a story of one of a group of friends and the young love that they find, however easy or difficult it may be. Each of the girls are in the same high school and most have been friends for year. Some of them have very certain career path and know exactly what they want to do in the future and what they will apply to do at college. Selina, unfortunately, is not one of them!
She has never had a boyfriend, has no idea what she wants to do with her life and is basically thought of as the studious, hard-working one of her group of friends. To top it off, she has a fear of driving and will only drive around her local area, to places she knows the routes to, but prefers for her friends to pick her up. Certain parts of driving, like parking and reversing are particular bug-bears! So, the new neighbours kid racing up their shared driveway and forcing her to back up, does not leave a good example.
Her family have to put up with teen male, called Cole, driving irrationally and rapidly up the drive with music blaring, having parties with what seems to be lots of alcohol and an absent mother, and just being stuck up and rude to her friends. It seems he and his mother are self-medicating with alcohol after his father left them and he has totally blamed his mother for leaving and dragging him and his younger brother away from their dad! They used to live up on the Hill, an exclusive gated property, but have now had to move to a poorer area. He still gets to go to his private school, but is sullen and angry, not dealing well with hi change in circumstances.
Selina, being his next door neighbour, gets to see a lot of his bad behaviour. Her mother has also become involved, when Cole forgets to pick up his younger brother, or return home to look after him, as he is out getting drunk with his friends and his own mother is out somewhere as well. Even Selina gets dragged in to go and pick his younger brother up, after he has been left at his game and no-one has turned up to pick him up. Selina takes her brother to help her navigate, as she doesn’t like to drive on roads where she isn’t used to going, but has to go and help.
What happens next, brings about a huge sense of doing what is right and having to ask for forgiveness for your actions or lack of actions. The girls are working on advertising a huge walking marathon event for their friend Malachi, a burns victim and also getting some practice walks in. They try to recruit some more people to join them. Selina asks her mum if she will join them and then is persuaded to ask Cole and his mother as well. Perhaps as a way to get them to talk to each other and begin to heal.
Another lovely, simple love story from the author. The group of BFF’s are introduced in each of the books, but each book concentrates on just one main relationship. So, while you may a little about them from reading any of the other books, you don’t need to, as the main relationship is brought to you as it happens and the relationships between the other characters are explained as you come across them. A tale of young love, but with faulty characters, having to deal with matters which many young people have to deal with these days. Divorce is more common and not always very amicable. How it affects the children left behind, is clearly shown in this book.
I look forward to any more books that may be to come in this series or even by this author. I am not exactly the target audience for these books, but I don’t think this matters at all. They are good, clean reads, with very realistic conditions for the storyline and great characters to read about. I chose to receive an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.
This is the fourth book in the Young Love series. I love how these stories seem like they were written all at the same time because they overlap or leave off at the perfect time. I am also really glad that everyone is included in all these stories and the author tells you what is happening with each couple. Cole is a new neighbor that sorta got introduced in the third book but you don't really realize it. He starts out super rude and stand offish. Later as the story goes on he becomes nicer and shows his good side. I feel like these stories go a little fast though because Cole seemed to change practically overnight. I get why he was doing what he was doing but he seemed to change his whole personality overnight. I'm just glad he was much nicer to everyone and wanted to make things right. I didn't really expect him to fall for Selina that fast like that but it is a young love story. I like Selina as a character. She was a really great friend, person, and sister; even to Ryan. She seemed to be a better sister to Ryan at times than Cole was to his own brother, Ryan. I loved that she still helped out with Ryan and stuff even after Cole and the accident. She even helped out with Malachi and overcame her fears of driving. She was honestly relatable in that aspect, which was nice. This story definitely had it's ups and downs but everything worked out in the end. I loved the younger siblings in this story also. They were super cute. I'm interested in how the next story will go and where everyone is going in life!
This is a sweet and very enjoyable read. Perfect for a quiet afternoon and can be easily read in one sitting. What I love most about Kylie Key’s writing is that it keeps me chuckling. Selina is painfully shy and awkward around Cole Parsons, but she expresses her ineptitude with humor that is charming and relatable. Selina and Cole’s story deals with a broken family, and yeah, how hearts get broken along the way. Despite Cole’s anger and subsequent bad behavior, Selina sets her ego to one side and puts her heart on the line to help him. The story pulls in characters from previous books, who play an active part the plot. It’s a tight knit group of BFFs that accepts and absorbs each new boyfriend in turn. An very entertaining read.
Things aren’t always as they seem. This is a reoccurring theme, in life. Selene is studious, sweet, a little shy. Cole is gorgeous, athletic, a jerk and becoming or is an alcoholic.
Family matters. Divorces are very prevalent today and they do affect the family. How we react can be out of character.
This is a delicious book that deals with these circumstances. Loved the book!
Cute story for any age, but targeted towards teen and young adult. Interesting and well-written storyline that keeps your attention til the end with its twists. The characters are all realistic and engaging with problems that we or someone we know have encountered.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This book is fiction. However, I would bet most teen girls have most of the unsure feelings, embarrassed and believing you are the only one who doesn't have firm plans for the future! The true to life of how Stella feels around Cole is hilarious, but spot on.
A wonderful and clean book that also deals with some of lifes difficult times that families sometimes go through.
Another cute read from this series. Selina is super nice, everyone's friend, but she has one anxiety. Cole is her new neighbor and immediately comes across as brash and arrogant. He's rude to Selina, but there's a hint of chemistry between them. I loved the characters, Selina and her little sister, and I'm glad Cole was able to redeem himself! A recommended sweet read!
A good read. Deals with real issues that some might think are strange (like driving) but is a real problem for some others. Our phobias are different for so many people. Young love, learning that the heart is a strange and complicated thing (especially when we never experienced FIRST LOVE before).
This book was okay, didn’t make me feel anything towards the characters. I didn’t want to dnf it but I wish there was more of a connection with the main characters, it truly made no sense for the feeling to develop when we never really got to see them even form a friendship. The writing was okay, there was room for improvement
Ooh. An energizing and engaging bad boy romance! I wasn’t expecting this when I guess the neighbor boy would be Sel’s book counterpart. I thoroughly enjoyed this romance and am excited for more.
This is book 4 in an amazing Young Adult genre. This series is so well written, touching in different subject that affect young people.
In this book we have Selina, a studious and caring young girl. And then we have Cole, an arrogant, irresponsible, bad boy.
But if that was there was to the story it would be over too soon, but there is more to these two then meets the eye. Cole is struggling with the separation of his parents and is blaming his mum, and so is acting out. Selina is a girl who does well at school but doesn’t know what to do next, plus she suffers from anxiety. How will these two find their place in the world where they feel like they fit in.
Really well written, the characters are relatable, and flawed and just what you would expect from them. No tip toeing around issue in this series. You are met head on with them all. A must read series.
I received this as a complimentary copy and I am giving my honest review voluntarily
This story kept evolving as I wrote it and it became so much more than just falling for the cute boy next door! I love Selina, she's everyone's best friend and a great big sister. When she meets her new neighbor, Cole, he doesn't give off a good impression, he's arrogant and downright rude! But when Selina learns about Cole's issues, she wants to help. Bothe Selina and Cole have big hearts - but whose will get broken? I hope you enjoy these characters as much as I do :)
