Call Sign: Redemption is book seven in the Away From Keyboard series by Patricia D. Eddy. This is a second chance romantic suspense novel that grabbed me from the very first page. The entire series is amazing but there was something about these two and their connection. They might be my favorite. Really, the blurb says everything for this but I will try to give you a little more to help to convince you that this is one book you can’t live without!

Trevor Moana still lives with the nightmares of the time he served. Of the things he did. Mostly of the last mission. The shot that changed so many lives. For the last five years he has worked for Second Sight, a security and investigative firm in Boston. He has found a new family with the men and women he works with. But he still keeps himself separate from everyone else. He keeps his past to himself. Until his past showed up at his office door.

Dani Monroe is a well known investigative reporter for the Washington Post. Dani is adopted and loves her brother and her parents. She never felt the need to know the details of her past until recently. Now she finds herself with the opportunity of a lifetime, the story that could change her career as well as find a missing link to her past. But in order to get the story, she will have to travel to Caracas, Venezuela, one of the most dangerous places in the world. She can’t go without a body guard and her brother is not available. So the only other person is a man from her past that broke her heart in more ways than one, Trevor.

man tied to a chair

Trevor and Dani are forced to face the past they share, the pain. They both quickly realize that the love they both once felt for each other is still there and always has been. And with that love, could there be forgiveness? Will they even have the chance to explore what could be between them? The danger they face in Caracas threatens everything. But their bond is unbreakable. They will always be there for each other. Only this time, will it be enough?

kiss

“You are mine, and before we’re done here tonight, you’re going to know it better than you know your own name.”
“I’m yours as well.”

Wow! This book! These two were so strong. I loved how Dani was such a strong woman but this author still made her soft as well. I was riveted from the first page. I could not put this down. Every book in this series is amazing but something about these two really grabbed me.

4.25 Stars. This is an intense and compelling romantic suspense story. The author gives the readers a good balance of intrigue, tension, romance, and sexy time. Since I haven’t read the six previous books in this series, I didn’t know the background on the characters. I quickly figured out this is cast of broken individuals that have lived through horrific events, whom have come together as a family, and against all odds have found love. They are there for each other, no matter the risk.
Trevor and Dani have an intense and complicated past. Trevor never thought Dani would ever forgive him, so he is shocked when she shows up at his office to ask him for a favor. Trevor can’t refuse Dani, so he agrees on accompanying her on a risky trip to Venezuela. They encountered danger, are tortured, and rekindle their romance.

I just finished reading an ARC of this book, which is going to release next week. This is the next book, Number Seven, in the Away From The Keyboard series by Ms. Eddy. The main characters in this book, with the exception of the heroine, have been introduced (some only briefly, ie JSOC Pritchard) in previous books.

The book has a very nicely plotted story, populated by characters you can't help but like. My favorite from a previous book, Ryker is there, joined by Ford, Wren, Cam, Graham, Ronan, and lest we not overlook Dax, of the "though the intelligence of having a blind man orchestrate your infil is definitely questionable" fame (that isn't the first time I snickered during this book). You're going to like these characters, you will want to take them home to meet your ... scratch that, not until you clean them up a bit. But you WILL want to take them home. And you'll also want to read about them again and again. I started reading this series on Book 2, and had to go back to Book 1, because the devil is in the details. And Ms Eddy knows her details. The story is set in DC, Boston, and Caracas, Venezuela where our heroes have to go to get Trevor out of a jam. And that is absolutely all I'm going to say about the story.

About the writing? There's something Ms. Eddy also has (and although this isn't a secret, apparently I'm the one letting the cat out of the bag), she's got great comedic timing. You'll see. Just remember Liam Neeson and understand there are dozens of places to put a funny, brilliant comment - the ones who have good timing put them in just the right places.

The plotting of this story could have gone totally haywire because of the action combined with details, but the author managed to sort through them and lay out the story so that the reader sees the details, hears and feels the emotion, and follows along with the characters during a suspenseful adventure. I love the way she developed the heroine's character, in bits and pieces because it let's the reader get to know her slowly and pick up on all the nuances in her personality that make her so perfect for this book. And we can't forget the love story that actually drives this plot from beginning to end. Trevor and Dani have known each other since they were kids. Knowing that, as you're reading this book, I can guarantee a lot of sniffles at the end. This book has the kind of HEA that you expect to find in romances, the kind that will make your toes curl, and a big sigh is heard.

Do I recommend this book? Oh hell yes. If you are reading military romances and want something that can be gritty and suspenseful yet endearing, full of the love of life but also full of very human emotions, you'll want to read Patricia D. Eddy's romances and enjoy her characters.

I just finished listening to the audiobook for this, my first from Patricia, and what a pleasure it was to escape into the story.

Aiden Snow, the voice of Trevor, is a narrating wizard. No word of a lie. I would be perfectly content to listen to this man read the phone book for hours on end. In learning that he has voiced almost all of the other AFK books, I'm eager to revisit those as well.

And Grace Grant truly brings to life one of my favorite female characters that Eddy has written, as she fully embodies Dani's spirit in every word.

If you already own a copy of this (or any of the other AFK stories), you can add the Audible version at a discount. I'd highly recommend if you enjoy listening to your stories outloud.

Original Review:

I was very excited to receive an advanced copy of this book, as I've devoured all the others in this series.

It did not disappoint. While we've met Trevor in previous novels, we quickly learned of a defining moment in his career as a CIA operative and got an idea as to what led him to joining Dax and the others at Second Sight. While most of the guys on Hidden Agenda/Second Sight teams exude quiet strength, Trevor comes equipped with the perfect dose of dark humor that will have you smiling and shaking your head at the man in equal measure.

Dani, a close connection from his past, resurfaces and needs his help in a mission that - no word of a lie - had me glued to the page. I loved Dani. She is fierce, confident, stubborn and perhaps a little willfully ignorant of danger. While I'm obviously not hopping planes to foreign countries for front pages, I saw a lot of myself in her resilience day to day. No spoilers, but the phrase "you're always okay" comes up several times, and her response (not necessarily verbatim) that "you need me to be okay, so I am" spoke volumes to me personally.

This book was everything I expected it to be. We still got to see the team - the family - we've grown to love over the past novels, and once again got the message that, whatever the situation, whatever the danger, this family they've created from their own broken pieces is anything but fractured.

I've loved every book in the Away From Keyboard series, and though each could be read and enjoyed on its own, you'd be doing yourself a disservice but not picking up Book 1 and diving in.

I received an Advanced Reader Copy. I am voluntarily leaving a review. Trevor works for Second Sight, but he used to be in the CIA. On a mission, he kills the brother of the love of his life. His guilt keeps him from maintaining a relationship. Dani has never forgiven Trevor, but she needs his special skill set in Venezuela, for the most important interview of her journalistic career. This is a wonderful second chance, romantic suspense story, worthy of the Away from the Keyboard series. A strong 4.5 star review.

Patricia Eddy really nailed the danger and suspense factor in Call Sign Redemption. It was wow, just wow! I gasped and my heart raced as events unfolded in this riveting story. It was fast paced and hard hitting from the first scenes. If I could rate this a 10, I would not hesirate. I was utterly enthralled.

Trevor Moana is a very complex character and I found him completely captivating. For most of his life he's had to lock down his emotions and feelings. First as a child in the foster system, then as a CIA operator. There were two people he truly cared about; one he killed, the other he deserted. Dani Monroe gets my vote for one tough cookie. Her assignments as a reporter helped her to become that way. Trevor still has her heart regardless of how he hurt her. They both become political pawns in the perilous country of Venezuela. Second Sight/Hidden Agenda teams formulate and execute a rescue operation without hesitation because that's what family does for each other. Finding redemption through love is what we all deserve.

I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book. Trevor seriously has some - as in, many - issues due to his past, but he isn't as broken as Dax or Ry used to be before they met their significant others in the previous books of the AFK-series. Anyway, the story doesn't start as the other books in the series, with lots of painful flash-backs, but it makes up during the story. There seriously are some situations you will wonder how they'll ever make it out of. A very suspensful story I more than enjoyed reading.

Another incredible installment in one of my favorite series. Trevor and Dani are amazing; strong, capable, and perfectly flawed. It's easy to connect with this series characters because we can all see a little bit of ourselves in them. I loved them both. There is quite the slow burn between these two, and it is more than worth it. As always, Ms. Eddy does a superb job bringing us into her world, don't hesitate to immerse yourself in this story, you won't be disappointed.

This is one of my favourite books in this series. I fell in love with the depth of Trevor and Dani's love. There was so much sacrifice, protection of their hearts and forgiveness in their bond of trust, and love. Their long term friendship was pivotal in their life decisions. I especially loved the author acknowledging family means more than bloodlines to bind people together, but the conscious acceptance of others who mean everything to you. I highly recommend this book.

Call Sign: Redemption
An Away From Keyboard Romantic Suspense Standalone
By: Patricia D. Eddy
Narrated by: Aiden Snow, Grace Grant

Patricia D. Eddy pens another amazing romantic suspense novel set in one of my favorite series, the “Away From the Keyboard” series. A series of interconnected standalone novels and I can not recommend it enough because each one is as amazing as the next and so are the characters. This book brings us Trevor Moana and Dani Monroe’s story, and what story it is, drawing me in right from the start, grabbing my attention and captivating it straight to the end. Trevor, former CIA, was on a rescue mission, not a straightforward mission and he wound up having to kill a former a friend who had switched alliances. It was a life or death situation and something that had to be done, but that does not lighten his guilt because he had a history with Gil and his sister Dani. Dani is a journalist reporter and after her brother’s death she received a message from the grave, a message telling her who her biological father was, both she and her brother were adopted by the Pritchards and grew up with Austin. Dani senses a story and wants to go to Venezuela to meet her father and do some investigative reporting. Austin is away on an assignment so he asked Trevor to go with her, Venezuela is the last places he wants to go to, but he can not say no to Dani and agrees to go as long as she listens to him and follows his lead. Both head in to dangerous territory and it does not take long for those holding her father prisoner to realize who she is and once she is made, she is in more danger than ever. Trevor gets her out with the help of an old colleague, but the reach of the bad guys extends further than they knew. There is never a dull moment in this cleverly plotted story, and I love how strong and badass Eddy’s characters are, yet each one has their issues and vulnerabilities, broken in their own way and she pairs them perfectly so the pieces fit together. There is plenty of drama, angst, action, thrilling suspense, heartfelt emotions and romance.  Patrica D Eddy thank you for another amazing story and the wild and thrilling ride.

🎧📚🎧 And for the wonderful narration, Aiden Snow and Grace Grant are the perfect cast to bring these characters to life and did so with a complete understanding of who they were portraying, giving each a voice that suited that character and were believable in every role they played. You could hear how much heart they put into their work as they capture all the characters’ emotions and project them into their performance and make you feel every single one. They are versatile voice artists and entertaining storytellers, and their narration enhances an already amazing story to another level.

Overall Grade: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Make no mistake with this review. I am a huge Patricia D. Eddy fan, especially as it relates to her Away From Keyboard series. Each new book in this series finds me engrossed in its story. The reason for it is its profound story about broken people living broken lives but finding completeness in the arms of their soulmate. This message coupled with the romantic suspense of the book keeps you engaged until the very last page.

The newest chapter in the Away from Keyboard series is Call Sign: Redemption. In this book, Eddy offers the story of Trevor and Dani. Trevor works for Second Sight, Dax Holloway’s (the hero from Eddy’s Second Sight) company. As a former foster care child, Trevor has learned to live life by himself with few connections. This book begins with his past where we find that he must make a decision about his best friend that leaves him broken and hiding from building friendships. Dani is a reporter who decides to pursue a news story. However, she must travel to a dangerous prison in Venezuela for the interview behind the story. To do so, she enlists the help of Trevor to act as her cameraman and protection. Dani and Trevor have a past, where Trevor stood up Dani, the woman he has always wanted but felt he wasn’t good enough for. As they travel to Venezuela and encounter danger there, their old feelings come alive. Unfortunately, the situation becomes precarious and Trevor is put in danger. Dani must save him, but to do so, she mobilizes Trevor’s friends with Second Sight and Hidden Agenda. In the process of saving Trevor, Dani risks her life for the man she knows she has always loved. Will the team be successful to save Trevor, and will Dani and Trevor find a happy ending?

I have to admit that this is the first Away from Keyboard story of which I struggled. Trevor’s story is an important one. This is a man who is placed in foster homes throughout his youth until age 18 when he is emancipated, so he lives his life as a bit of a nomad, never finding his replacement family. Dani and her adopted brother Austin, along with her adoptive parents, come closest to taking the place of Trevor’s family. Yet, Trevor struggles to see this connection. As such, Trevor doesn’t believe he can find a place to land or find a family to love him. He sees himself as a lone wolf, even though he surrounds himself with people who will sacrifice their lives for him. This message through the character of Trevor is the gravity of Call Sign: Redemption. When Trevor recognizes that the men and women of Hidden Agenda and Second Sight are his family, the story finds its zenith, and it connects deeply with the reader.

What I struggled with was the progression of Dani and Trevor’s relationship. Eddy is usually so careful in the development of the relationships between her heroes and heroines. In Call Sign: Redemption, feelings and actions between the two seemed rushed and underdeveloped. I wanted more background to Dani and Trevor’s story. In doing so, I think their reunion and the ignition of feelings would have felt more profound and essential. Instead, it read like a spike in chemistry. These two are seemingly soulmates, but that isn’t fully articulated until Dani sacrifices her safety for Trevor. I think Eddy could have built their backstory more as a way to connect us more deeply to their relationship.

Also, while reading the book, I was confused as to why the U.S. Government would allow one of their former CIA agents to be extradited back to Venezuela. I found myself researching the Venezuelan/U.S. Extradition Treaty because it seemed like a stretch that the government wouldn’t fight to keep him on US soil. Instead, Eddy allows it in her story, as a means to create the rescue of Trevor. However, I couldn’t suspend my disbelief because Trevor is shipped out expeditiously (which seemed odd) and he was former CIA. I’d like to think that the US would delay extradition given Venezuela’s precarious relationship with the US. This moment in the story made me question the plot twist and impetus for the eventual resolution of the story.

That being said, the true power of Call Sign: Redemption is Patricia D. Eddy’s magnification of her characters’ broken parts. This is what we sign up to read when we enter this series. We all live with broken pieces. They nick our hearts and, sometimes, make it difficult to be loved. That’s clear in Trevor’s story as he struggles to make meaningful relationships with his colleagues, even though they want a meaningful connection with him. As his love for Dani grows, the possibility of this grows stronger, highlighting the message that love can bind our broken pieces together and make us feel whole again, offering us a place of safety and pure love. This is the true essence of Patricia D. Eddy’s newest book, Call Sign: Redemption, and it holds the power of the story.

Call Sign: Redemption
An Away From Keyboard Romantic Suspense Standalone
By: Patricia D. Eddy
Narrated by: Aiden Snow, Grace Grant

Away From the Keyboard series never has a dull moment. Patricia D. Eddy has such a creative mind and I couldn’t wait to listen to Call Sign: Redemption. This story packs a punch and has a romance to win your heart. Trevor and Dani’s story resonates a true love that cannot be forgotten. Since they were kids, they had feelings for each other, but circumstances have pulled them apart. Now when Dani, a journalist, is set to write story taking her to Venezuela where she needs protection, and Second Sight is hired to help her. This story had my heart racing. The story Dani is going after is dangerous, and has so many life effecting facets, I wasn’t sure how it was all going to play out. Eddy had me on the edge of my seat in suspense, my hope rising that these two could find their way back to each other and they would make it home. Then she brings in all of my favorite characters of the series, and I was thrilled. It’s fast paced, romantic and a fantastic story.

Narrated by Aiden Snow and Grace Grant, we get all the feels. I love these two, and I love that they continue the series together. It’s consistent voicing throughout all the books, and they understand the characters. That is key to giving us a realistic listen and they just get it. Love them together!

This was not my favourite in this series. I found myself struggling to connect with the story and the characters for a large portion of this book. I can't put my finger on why it was a struggle - all the components that make this series so good were here. That being said there was a point in the reading where it did click for me and I did find myself invested in the story and the outcome.

Trevor is one the characters throughout this series that is based at Second Sight, yet we don't know much about him. Even here, we only get small pieces of him. We know rom the start he had to make a difficult decision which impacted on Dani and kept him away from her. We do know that his upbringing was such that he kept himself at a distance to prevent himself from getting hurt again. We also know that he has been in love with Dani for a long time. He is reserved, stoic but incredibly loyal.

When Dani comes to him and asks for his help as a bodyguard for a trip to Venezuela to interview a political prisoner, he doesn't hesitate to go and protect her. Dani is outspoken, passionate with a strong moral compass. She compliments Trevor's quietness.

From the slow beginning to the fast paced conclusion, this ended up being a good addition to the series.

I absolutely loved this book. I wanted Trevor’s story since he was introduced in On His Six. And I wasn’t disappointed.

Five years ago Trevor took his last shot under command of the CIA. The shot that changed his life irrevocably. He k*lled his best friend. Now, five years later the only woman he ever loved and the sister of the friend he m*rdered asks for his help. She needs a bodyguard to accompany her to one of the most dangerous countries in the world, Venezuela. He can’t refuse her. On they go.

Through the series of unfortunate events and problems Trevor and Dani heal other. Dani finally ones up to him and he in turn too. They are very good for each other. The chemistry and passion between them is very strong.

Overall I loved this book very much. If you’re a fan of romantic suspense then you’re definitely going to love it.

Returning Home

Trevor and Dani were in love when circumstances took him away ten years ago. They were young and have suffered through forced misconceptions, now Dani needs Trevor's help. And the former CIA assassin must help the woman he loves. Their exploits while in a turbulent country torn apart by civil unrest and political corruption are terrifying. The actions of Second Sight, Trevor's "private security" employer proves that what's important is the family we choose. The dangerous excitement of their coordinated efforts are riveting. Well written, well plotted with well defined characters this is another sterling Away from the Keyboard installment.

4,75 stars for Trevor and Dani

Another team member from Second Sight and another mission into one of the most dangerous areas in the world. Trevor is assigned to keep his best friends adopted sister (they were in love since teenager years) to see a resistance leader in Venezuela. The ties are deeper than Trevor knows and when revealed, they are both in deep danger.

Wow, loved this one. I becomes a bit more challenging to keep all the people around second sight straight in my head but I live the way the family grows and works together. It was a great mix of danger and simmering feelings, that came out forcefully before danger hit again. I already lined up the next book. 💝

I listened to the audiobook. Patricia Eddy is a genius at creating relatable characters. Even though they are bad-ass special forces guys they have REAL problems, real pasts, and are not perfect. They are evolving and coming to terms with past mistakes/experiences. Her books recognize that we are all flawed and works in progress, and I absolutely adore that about her writing. This book was a action packed and ! Who doesn't love a good second-chance romance! Narration was excellent! I would recommend this book!

I was worried this would be the one Away from the Keyboard I didn’t like, but Eddy never lets me down. Yes, Dani is a reporter who throws herself into dangerous situations - an overdone trope that usually displays a supposedly sharp woman who can take care of herself, but who really ignores all precautions and drives everyone involved nuts. Dani listens, respects others’ areas of expertise, and then acts with support, driven by necessity and courage. I could say so much about Trevor, his vulnerabilities and his inner strength, but don’t want to spoil a great story.

I loved the previous books in this series, but this one fell a little flat. It was repetitive and spent a great deal of time focusing one previous characters/moments from different books in this series.

The fade to black scenes were disappointing given the author didn’t do this in previous books and it took me back. I hate fade to black.

These characters weren’t engaging. Overall this book was meh.

Another great book, in the series.
I can't say enough about these not perfect, yet beautiful characters.

I'm so in love with this series!

I didn't think I would love it as much as I did, but from the first page of the 3rd book in the series I was hooked. I went back and read the first 2 and was glad I did.

This had secrets, twists and turns galore that had me on the edge of my seat. Dani and Trevor have a second chance in this action-packed story. The background had me questioning everything and when they have to return to where their hurts started, I was anxious. The chemistry is amazing as always and the story just flows.

Best one yet!

This, for me, so far is my favorite story in the series!

The sickly sweet over dramatic of angst that usually color this authors females is muted in this tale and almost every page is full of action. Yessss!

I still have 3 more stories to read through but so far, Dani is definitely my favorite female lead in this series.

Fantastic story!!!!!

Who really knew how deep Trevor’s wounds ran. Childhood insecurities run the deepest. Being reunited with Dani is terrifying and difficult. Trevor carries so much guilt. Dani sees Trevor though whether he likes it or not. It is hard to hide anything from her. helping Dani with an assignment in Venezuela is not a walk in the park. These two are tough together!
