Absoluely phenomenal. CWR is an immersive writer and captures the SGU world in a way that reads like new episodes. The change in perspective really adds to the atory as it fills in the blanks that naturally come with a story told about Rush and Young. The drama of it all is 1000% worth the read!
I have a love-hate relationship with this story. Read it in 3 days, almost obsessively, and it HURT so good and yet so bad. Two years later I still haven't fully recovered.
It's a great story, even if you haven't seen Stargate Universe, it's still a wonderful, albeit very complex, read. CWR gifted us a masterpiece and I will forever remember this story.
This was the longest SGU fic I've ever read. Clocking in at 540,000 words in 94 chapters, this thing was massive. And I devoured every word of it!
This was like watching a lost season of the show. The author neatly captured the character's voices and mannerisms. Clearly, CWR is a huge fan of this show to write this epic story. And a talented writer, too!
The story was page-turning and suspenseful. There are several days where I ignored chores and other duties to sit and read this fic for a few more hours. I was pulled in from the first chapter. As much as I wanted to find out what happened at the end, I also didn't want to finish it. I enjoyed reading this so much! I just wanted it to keep going.
Colonel Young and Nicholas Rush are two of my favorite Stargate: Universe characters, but I was also delighted to find others in this story from the Stargate series. Daniel Jackson (as himself and also as the AI), and a few scenes with Rodney McKay, John Sheppard and Jack O'Neill.
Nick Rush is forced to integrate with Destiny via the neural interface chair. The procedure alters his genetic makeup so he is mentally linked with the ship. But another member of the crew is needed to counterbalance the link, to keep Rush's consciousness from being fully pulled into the ship. Unwilling to ask anyone else to take on this task, Colonel Young volunteers. He is linked to Rush, who is linked to the ship which creates a massive amount of problems and near-death scenarios.
It was interesting to see the intricate plot, character growth and the developing relationships between the many characters. I highly recommend die-hard Stargate fans read this one.
You can tell when someone puts their heart and soul into a work, because your heart and your soul gets drawn in as well. That is what happens in Force Over Distance.
I have never before felt the need to add a fanfiction to my Goodreads shelf, but this tore me apart from inside to out. This brought me a sense of completion I didn't know I was lacking so strongly with these characters--all of them! Not just Rush and Young. Every character was so lovingly created. It was an emotional and mental journey that swept through every one of my synapses and left nothing but catharsis in it's path.
I read this book expecting a long slow burn that would make me feel good. When I finished it, I felt like someone scooped out my heart and filled my chest with ice. Not a day goes by that I don't think about this work. Reading it changed me fundamentally, and I think I'll never be the person I was before I read it. 5 stars can't capture how this work made me feel. Every character was well thought out and completely their own. I felt as if I was in the world myself. I love this work with all my heart and it will stay with me forever.
