Highlander’s Twisted Identity

Rate this book
Revenge never tasted so dangerously sweet…

Ever since he was a wee bairn, Wallace was deprived of everything. He never knew his father and he was robbed of his right to become the Laird of Clan Craig. Instead, he and his mother have been living in shame and bitterness.

Now the time has come; Wallace must punish his father’s murderers and claim what is rightfully his. The plan includes the bewitching lass who has been invading his dreams.

Being the Laird’s adopted daughter and forbidden to go anywhere without guards, Freya feels confined in Craig Clan. Secretly, she cherishes the memory of a peculiar lad whom she met in one of her childhood adventures.

Now trapped in a fire, Freya is saved by the same boy, who has turned into a handsome Highlander. When their eyes meet, their old flame is rekindled.

But how come Wallace is always present, whenever Freya is in danger? Surely he doesn’t have anything to do with it… or does he?

Maybe her decision to bring him home with her isn’t a wise one…

She is the woman of his dreams, but he must become her nightmare…

The premise of the book was quite interesting, given that the start was long and drawn out. Wallace has spent his life believing that Laird Finley of Clan Craig had murdered his own father, the rightful Laird of Clan Craig. All the backers of the late Laird Seoras including Nora, mother to Wallace, were cast away from the clan and lived a squalid life as the “clanless.” They were filled with hatred toward the new laird and his family. As Wallace grew up, he realized that he was being tasked to take back the clan and reclaim his rightful place as the Laird of Clan Craig.

Laird Finley and his wife Sine ere unable to have children, so they adopted a baby girl, Freya, whose mother had died right after giving birth. Freya grew up to be a headstrong little hoyden. She loved escaping from her two guards and go into the woods to hunt game on her own. She encounters a dangerous animal, but William hears the clamor and rescues the young girl. She is very grateful to him for saving her and brings him back to the keep so her father can thank him properly. When Laird Finley recognizes Wallace, he threatens him to never st foot on Craig land again.

Five years pass before Wallace sees Freya again. She is surrounded by a fire, and he is able to pull her to safety. Only, this was the first part of a devious plot set forth by the clanless, much to Wallace’s dismay. He ends up telling her an outright lie about being rejected by his people, and Freya sets out to save him.

Now the story really begins, with a lot of emotions and hatred filling the pages. Wallace and Freya spend a lot of time together, and they develop deep feelings for each other. Unfortunately, the clanless haven’t forgotten the plot Wallace has been tasked with. Does he continue hiding his true reason for being at the keep? Will he carry out the plot to kill Laird Finley?

Set in medieval times this love story follows a young boy and girl from their first meeting to their wedding. When they met for the first time. Freya was hunting. She was 13 and he was 15. Freya was set upon by brigands and Wallace came to her aid. Wallace was successful in chasing them off and he helped Freya get back home. They met several more times and grew to like each other a lot. Wallace was from the clanless area, past the edge of Craig lands whereas Freya was the Craig Laird's daughter. Wallace was the son of a former laird who had lost the lairdship by being murdered by his brother some years earlier. Wallace's mother was planning a violent murder of Freya's father to have Wallace take back the lairdship which she strongly felt was his birthright. Wallace could not do such violence, especially after he met Freya and got to know her some. Freya was forbidden to see Wallace, but they managed to stay in touch with each other and the relationship grew, they becoming good friends until one day when the clanless attacked the laird. Wallace came to the laird's defense and that's when things really turned around. A great fast-paced story of how love can change and grow if allowed to. Loved it. A great read.

This book is set after the book Highlander’s Buried Identity: but can easily be read as a stand alone story.

Freya is the adopted daughter of Sine and Finlay who ww meet in the first book.
Wallace has lived in the outcast area of the clan with his mother. He has been told all his life that the Laird is a bad man and murdered his father.

One day Wallace saves Freya from a fire.
This is the start of their developing relationship.

There is a good plot (although a little predictable). This story is easy to read and includes some intrigue, action, betrayal and romance.

I quite enjoyed the story even though I think it could do with some editing.

The Laird's daughter Freya is assaulted by some men when she slips away from her guards. She is rescued by a young man, Wallace, before being harmed. Wallace belongs to the clanless. His Mother has told him that his Father was murdered by the Laird. Freya has been raised with love. Wallace has been raised in poverty and to hate. Will meeting each other change their lives. Thanks for my ARC copy of this attention grabing story.

Wallace was raised on lies and revenge. Living a rough life, all changed when he met Freya. Freya represented everything that was against all that Wallace had drilled in to him his entire life. But love prevails and the truth is revealed. Through many obstacles, love conquered all. Overall, this was a good read. It began slow, but before giving up, became enticing to know what was going to happen next.

Loved it. Read it not knowing it was the second book in the series and it was perfect. Sweet, and easy to read.

Wallace has been raised hating the laird but when he meets the Laird’s daughter for the second time, he must decide to go against what he was brought up to believe or follow his heart.

This was a great storyline!

I really enjoyed this story, though I didn't like that he didn't tell about the evil deeds his mother was planning! The one thing I missed was if she lived or not. I missed the extended ending as it didn't want to download.

A Scottish Romance

Here are two people, both of questionable birth, who find each other accidentally one day. From there it simmers along into a traditional HEA ending. A little piece of fiction to while away an afternoon. If you like Scottish romance than this is a just that.

Enjoyed this well written story. The characters were intriguing, especially Wallace. He was so torn about what he had been raised to believe and the things that he was experiencing. Could his mother have lied about his father’s death? Will he find the truth before it’s too late?

Wallace sought vengeance for his father's murder only to learn through his love for Freya that there was more to what he'd been told. What events could reconcile enemy clans?
