An abused woman’s life begins anew when her husband is murdered, but ghosts from her abuser’s past keep popping up – mob debts, long lost relatives, slimy lawyers, and a sadistic killer still on the loose.
A sexy, lesbian medical examiner breathes new life and hope into Ana’s life, but can she fall in love in the midst of the chaos brought on by her husband’s untimely demise?
TT Banks enjoys spending time with her wife and furry family – not writing this bio – the fact is, she’d rather be doing anything other than writing in the 3rd person about herself. She writes books – this shouldn’t come as a surprise to you – you’re currently reading her author bio – so there’s that. She writes funny, quirky – sometimes nerve-racking – always sexy lesbian fiction novels. She taught middle school math for one terrifying year and has since been a successful entrepreneur. She needed an outlet for her creative, goofy, slightly dark side – and that’s what you’ll find in her books.
Post Mortem by T.T. Banks is an entertaining and well-written mystery with a romantic hopefulness that took me on a wild ride. Mr. Cool was seriously bizarre.
Ana is a well-developed character who is not only classically beautiful on the outside, but kind, spiritual and emotive. She’s an authentic person who has known deep sadness, but becomes a quiet warrior who gives back to the world even while she quietly wishes that her own circumstances were better. Paired with a mentally and physically abusive husband, it was easy to choose sides. This reader allegiance to Ana is created with a deft hand on the author’s part. Her sexual awakening is interesting, as she was convinced that she was broken––when in fact she couldn’t see past the abuse and control she endured as the ‘good wife.’
More than one time I was reminded of Sue Grafton’s work. The human condition was front and center; loneliness, heartbreak, friendship, dreams, respect, passion and greed. The creepy antagonist behind the mystery was offered as a tidbit to keep you reading, while the violent scenes read very real and chilling, but didn’t glorify the violence.
Cherry as the no-nonsense coroner who swoops in to take charge is such a modern, feminist character. She’s Vietnamese, a brilliant doctor and also self-identifies as a Lesbian, although her personal life did not overshadow the story in any way. The humanist painting of Cherry as a loner and perfectionist made me sincerely hope for her to find her happily ever after.
Every once in a while the antagonists are a tad more dramatic than I would imagine these people might be in real life, but rather than it being a detriment, it enthused the other parts of the story and made for a fast paced read.
This book was an unusual blend of crime procedural, mystery, women’s fiction (in the sense of fully developed characters) and contemporary romance. There was a sexy scene in the final pages that was pretty racy… but not too much, as just the right amount of detail was offered and the reader was allowed to imagine the rest if they wanted to. I wish more modern authors used this (less is more) technique, as I normally flip past those parts in a novel, regardless of the genre.
I highly suggest this story to anyone who likes strong, female characters and procedural mysteries with complex characters and a crime to solve.
Post-Mortem is Book 2 in TT Banks Sapphic Sphere Collection. After reading her first novel, Breaking Protocol, I knew that I wanted to read the second book in her collection. Post-Mortem doesn't disappoint and wants me asking for another in this series! It was a fast read and I saw evidence that TT Banks sharpened her writing skills in this second novel. For me, a good book draws you in and you think about the story line and the characters even when you aren't reading it. You visualize the characters and befriend them. Cherry and Ana, the two main characters in this novel, are women that I grew to know, love, and admire. I knew they would eventually connect intimately, but it was torture waiting for them to do so. When I'm really into a book, I want to keep reading after the last chapter. With Post-Mortem, I wanted to know more about Cherry and Ana's future life together. Hopefully, I will get a glimpse in Banks' next novel. T.T. Banks doesn't disappoint in weaving a tale of fast-paced action and suspense balanced with romance and love. Banks uses her main character, a medical examiner, to help us see the gruesome side of murder and death. The sex is sizzling and the connection between Ana and Cherry undeniably shows us that "love is love". J.D. Simmons, Author of Lately Lesbian
WOW. POST-MORTEM by TT Banks (@TTBanks5) struck a chord from page one. It has a succubus of a plot with a rapturing pace. There is a dynamism, a seductive pulse, that grips you from the start and won’t let go till you’ve ravaged the book whole.
I absolutely LOVE Cherry and Ana as characters. They struggle with what we all struggle with — surprising truths in the most unpredictable places at the most inconvenient times. It’s a brilliant story of trust, of vulnerability, of finding home.
Fun, smart, and sexy, you’ll violently devour this novel and immediately starve for more. Banks playfully masters tension and release, both in character and in plot. Her prose is mischievous, frisky, and most of all, resonant. The people are real. The story is real. The emotions and ambitions are very, VERY real. She transports you to her world with complete immersion, and you will lust after her characters as they lust after each other.
I loved the first book, Breaking Protocol, but Post Mortem took things to another level! In this book, we meet Cherry, a blood-soaked coroner (I think that's the proper term) who meets Ana, the devote Catholic who works with orphans and was raised by nuns. Cherry's a lesbian, and Ana is straight...or is she? I should also mention that Ana's husband was just murdered. Throw in a twin and a mobster for the criminal element, and this book is entertaining throughout. Banks's characters are dimensional, and the writing style is witty. Very much a recommended read :)
I really enjoyed this book, and couldn't put it down. Two great characters and a show burn romance, which was really well done. The nasty characters were also really well described and I developed a real hated of them, lol. A nice easy read and an intriguing page turner. I look forward to reading the other book by the author, Breaking Protocol.
TT Banks had done it again. Really fun detective story and again approaches serious issues with tact and tenderness. RJ Cherry is a character that I would love to read more about. Maybe the next one will tell more of Webb's story. Hope to read more by Ms. Banks.
After reading the first book in this collection I was excited to read Post Mortem. And it didn’t disappoint. The story is fast paced and full of action and suspense that had me on the edge of my seat at times. The two main characters were fantastic and very real. I think what I loved about them most of all was the way that TT Banks showed them as both tough and vulnerable at the same time. I highly recommend this book.
Post-Mortem is another fun, romantic read by Banks!
In this sapphic romance, Cherry and Ana are thrown together in perhaps the most unromantic way ever when Cherry has to examine Ana’s dead husband, but sparks still fly between the two.
Mixing a murder mystery with a budding friendship that quickly becomes more, this book was a joy to read. And that twist at the end really caught me by surprise!
The only reason I docked half a star is because sometimes Cherry’s internal monologuing got to be a bit much, but I still enjoyed her character for the most part.
I liked the high energy of this book. It did not feel like a 373-page book while I read it because the pacing was fast and intense. Cherry, an unlucky-at-love Vietnamese medical examiner, and Ana, a beautiful blond whose husband was just murdered, have immediate chemistry when they meet. Their relationship is sweet, entertaining, and a pleasure to read, but I thought the story ended a bit abruptly, leaving unanswered questions, Fast fun read!
