The world is in harmony, and humanity’s light shines bright. But is there more at play than what can be seen. And what will be the Protector's role now Earth shows it doesn’t need her.. The sadistic global terrorist collective, Al Nadir is gone. World leaders have joined together in Freedom Earth. Religious heads have put aside their differences. The Balance is in equilibrium. This is a time of peace.
But Ellie isn’t so sure.
She feels something dangerous bubbling beneath the smooth surface. Struggling to shake her instincts, she remains suspicious of British Prime Minister Ashton. His sly smirk and wandering eyes undermine his perfect, family-man façade. But how can she denounce the most popular man in the world?
As pressures grow and lies build, one thing is for certain, when, in the end, the truth is revealed, it's going to be cataclysmic!
The Sum is the finale in the dark, edgy and dangerous The Trusted Thriller Series. If you like mind-blowing suspense, ancient alien powers, and espionage intrigue, then you’ll love this exhilarating adventure.
A great adventure of political ambition that takes the individual megalomaniac to new levels of world power and domination. UK PM Richard Ashton seems to be a new broom sweeping terrorism aside and establishing a peaceful world. All with the not inconsiderable influence of the alien couple Sam and Ellie whose relationship has driven these books. Something is not right; Ellie see Ashton as dangerous and not the far-seeking leader, everyone including Sam embraces. Things don’t go well for Ellie as she searches for evidence of her gut feelings but her quest takes an unexpected turn when her obsession leaves her broken and disconnected from her mission. Medhat takes control of every aspect of the story from relationships, action and power dynamics ‘shimmering’ between the alien dimension and earth. Mixing scheming, betrayal, and passion where you always question motives and actions of the varied cast of characters.
The end of this series after 5 suspense filled novels. For readers new to this collection, The Sum is written with an all inclusive style which means it can be seen as a stand-alone. While the author meanwhile has breathed a huge sigh of relief, having finally finished this saga. Having read each book in sequence I am both relieved and disappointed that this “trilogy” of 5 books has come to an end. It might have answered many readers queries, but more from my perspective it reveals the mind of the author having taking us all on this thrilling circuitous ride.
Michelle Medhat has an epic story to share. She has produced a play list with each book and music resonants throughout the reading process. Sam and Ellie are the central couple, with a strong focus on their love, relationship and (blushing) sexual desire. Before the clothes are discarded I might hum “It started with a kiss” and at its heart the author is committed to this central love story which makes it, here, very different from normal action adventure thrillers. Furthermore, mixing spy craft with benevolent alien supervision, the writer has brokered a hybrid novel that respects no genre boundaries. It is something of a masterpiece, Frankenstein’s monster perhaps, or a beautiful new plant variety to wow the Chelsea Flower Show.
Love is a central theme; but sexual descriptions make one’s toes’ curl. This is writing not to tip the bookinto erotica, rather so the depravity and darkness is highlighted. This theme has always been a part fiction from wartime movies, westerns and sci-fi. Like Star Wars for instance. Medhat has an overarching style which is truer to this aspect of love when it impacts human relationships; infers how other universal beings incorporate these notions. Indeed Kudamun exists only to monitor this balance between light and darkness. These novels are based on how one’s desire for a “perfect world” can be undermined by others and base desires. Demonstrated here by subversion, terrorism, political power and sexual domination, where others have no choice or voice.
Seen from a distance, these qualities with that perspective raise these novels to a higher level and hold the work of this author in a more important light.
However, the books are long and at times a little hard to get into, that ‘can’t put down’ status. This is not a criticism so much a reference to the overwhelming depth of character and subjects covered. It is all forgivable as I finished each book, but others might give up - sadly. I feel it is like a brilliant restaurant that hasn’t fine tuned it’s fine dining. Too much choice to distract the eye and stir the senses. I would hope future projects are more focused and edited to a more compact story. Time will tell.
Without doubt, here is a wonderful writer with plenty to say. She writes with passion, in crisp chapters. She relates an original story with many common themes and clever twists. You can never relax and when she flips her characters as in this latest book she attenuates human character by switching good into pure evil as powerfully as letting Mr Hyde grace her page.
Love the covers, they seem to refract some of the crystal light that pours in from her alternative dimensional reality. I hope in embracing her books your life will be blessed and your world will be turned upside down.
I love this series more than any other I've read in years. Where do I start to describe the magic that Michelle Medhat channels through her writing?
Imagine a world class spy novel, filled with high technology, quantum physics and upper level government spooks. Then, add in a huge helping of metaphysics, spiritual philosophies and a cast of wildly good and evil players.
The Sum, the final installment of The Trusted series, pulls all of these elements together and crashes at light speed, flinging you from one Universe to the next, until your heart is in your mouth.
What was so satisfying about this book was the validation of Ellie's (and mine) feeling of being gaslighted. The truth is revealed and resolved in a gut pleasing manner, leaving a gigantic smile on my face. Jolly good show!
Freedom Earth is the new way forward for mankind. But is it quite as clear-cut as it seems? Is Richard Ashton on the level, or are there forces at play? Is Ellie now at peace, knowing that they've ridden the world of evil... Or is the darkness threatening to take hold of her? An eleven-year-old boy is acting strangely, saying things a boy of his age should never say. Does he have a part to play? A fast-paced thriller, where all is not what is seems. The author does a great job, binding all the loose threads together in a mind-blowing finale. A great end to the series. highly recommended for any fans that like spy thrillers with a slug of sci-fi.
How can the earth balance always remain in equilibrium? Ellie is still suspicious of PM Richard Ashton but Sam and Aby-Od feel she is worrying unnecessarily - is she?
What is wrong with Xiao? Are his parents, Lei and Chen ever going to get their son back to his usual self? Can he be saved?
This is an extremely fast paced thriller. Hold on tight for the ride of a lifetime in this explosive and mind blowing finale.
Another fast paced and full of twists and turns plot. Michelle Medhat constructed a series of impact mixing totally different scenarios and characters and thus reaching a wonderful result. I did enjoy reading the The Sum and will look forward to reading other books by this author. A very entertaining and thrilling story! I received a free copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest opinion.
OMG! Michelle Medhat is my new author I look forward to reading more of her books. Fantastic.
The whole series kept me going non stop to the very last page of the last book 4. A thriller mixed with si fi will blow you away and keep you gripped. I can't say enough of how I've loved every book from start to finish. Fab-U-Lous!
I got this as a e book for my laptop from the author. I enjoyed reading it. It had a good story to it. I liked the variety of characters in it. I have read other books by this author and liked them too.
