Black Clover 14 Among the recent series of "Weekly Boy Jump", there is a fantasy comic book, which is becoming the axis of the next generation royal boy comics along with the haikyu !! It is also anticipated to be called the new One Nerve trio with One Puntman, My Hero Academia, following Yonabeel (One Piece, Naruto, Bleach) which was a sign of the existing boy jumping.
The boy comics of the Japanese consulate, which is represented by the current boy jumping, is still the No. 1 spot in the industry, focusing on the first hit "One Piece." However, It is also true that the works rarely settle.
Naruto ends the series with the end of 72 books, and at the time of the disappearance of a column of One Nerve, it is a coincidence or an intentional plan of the editorial department. This is the work of a black clover.
Yūki Tabata (Japanese: 田畠裕基, Hepburn: Tabata Yūki) is a Japanese manga artist.
After working as an assistant to Toshiaki Iwashiro, he created the one-shot Hungry Joker, which was later serialized as a full series. After its conclusion, he launched Black Clover.
Asta and Yuno grew up together, abandoned at the same church. They both determined to become Magic Knights... Yuno's abilities soon grew to genius levels of power and control while Asta didn't show even a spark of magic and made up for it by training hard physically. It became apparent to both when they received their grimores, Yuno a coveted 4-leaf clover and Asta an unheard of black 5-leaf clover, that they were each other's biggest competition when it came to achieving their goals of becoming the next sorcerer emperor.
Black Clover vol 14 shows off one of the strengths of this series... and that's how Yuki Tabata loves to introduce teammates back histories and draw that tension and angst into the present story. I never mind when the spotlight is taken off of Asta because I know he'll jump right back in there if he believes someone isn't being an honorable person and he does that in spades with Finral and his brother Langris who is on another team. This is a great way to keep Asta's philosophy and POV fresh as we explore other character's experiences and his take on them.
It’s pretty neat seeing Asta even things up with Xerx so he can't bypass teamwork this time... And its all made even better because the art is so damn good! Yuki Tabata’s always mixing it up and framing things differently and keeping even the art fresh. You can probably tell I have a wee bit of a crush on this mangaka as he is quite excellent at his craft. We are getting more into the dark form of Asta and its neat seeing it in action in Black Clover vol 14. And I'm always game to see different of the magic knights abilities in action because Yuki Tabata showcases in in the best ways using his one of a kind art style.
The plot continues with more of the Royal Knights exam. We get Noelle going up against her brother and you can't help but cheer for her the entire time. Go Noelle!! And Asta and Xerx get into a groove with Mimosa and I really love that Asta used Xerx wanting to win against him, hahaha. We gain insight in how Mimosa and her brother have such a different POV about the peasants (as the story calls them). This was a tiny glimpse but it says a lot about Noelle's friend. The best stuff was learning about Xerx and why he's such a big headed jerk... This really touched my heart because I can totally see him and Asta becoming these really close friends after seeing Xerx's dad's personality.
Langris is such an evil villain in Black Clover vol 14, I was really surprised at how super strong this kid is... We kept getting abilities popping and yet he wouldn't go down! It kept the tension really super high... I am wondering about all the Wizard King was saying about a traitor! Could it really be who they suspect?! Sometimes our focuses cause us to lose sight of the real issues... but right now its all still an ongoing investigation!! All I know is that Black Clover is an excellent manga that I highly suggest you purchase, because you will want to reread this epic...
Black Clover vol 14 continues the Royal Knights exam and we see Asta's efforts to team up with Xerx the jerk come to fruition in an unexpected way. We also learn more about other magic knights and I'm always game with the great way that Yuki Tabata weaves these back histories into the present story. Black Clover is a series that it is NEVER too late to start...

Los Toros Negros frenando a Langris me ha hecho ver Black Clover con otros ojos. Qué momentazo. Igual que el de Noelle contra su hermano Solid. No sé por qué he tardado tanto en darle una oportunidad a Asta y los demás. Me encantan. La acción y la comedia están muy bien llevadas. Además, los personajes en su mayoría me parecen todo un acierto.
Pd: debo de ser de ese 0,1% de gente a la que le gusta Langris.
Noelle vs. Solid and Langris vs. Finral's battle were the main highlights of this volume. I hope both Solid and Langaris have learned their lesson this time. The Black Bulls really are blessed with awesome friends.
I like, when I see hard work and subtlety paying off. And I think that Tabata managed to do here something that he tried for before, but for me, it clicked only now. He presented characters and their struggles through battles. Siblings and different ideologies clashing, the interesting new character got a great background and somehow it just clicks and feels good.
I want Black Clover to be more like this always - and I think that everyone must want that. Because suddenly the stakes and the world feels much real than ever before and it's because we are shown it directly and not just told.
Some thoughts that I took note of while reading: - Crying because I'm again reminded that the anime is ending soon T^T - I can now see that there were some clues here and there about the mystery of the identity of the leader of The Eye of the Midnight Sun. - "He's called his name five times today!! Even though he hasn't spoken to me once!!" Alecdora's annoyingly petty for his age lol - "GET HIM NOELLE!! THRASH YOUR BROTHER!!!" - Mushroom guy voicing out my exact thoughts - Solid's face when he saw Noelle's powerful spell coming for him... Noelle flipping her hair after knocking out her jerk of a brother and saying "I'm not weak anymore!"... ahh, so satisfying!
- Lmao again at Charmy giving Yuno an after-battle dessert and swooning afterward hahaha - Asta deserves an Oscar... - "Cool masked jerk" is actually really cool. And his backstory might be one of my favorites... - I missed Captain Yami! - The Black Bulls rushing into the battlefield to protect Finral... I love these characters so much T^T (Also this scene in the anime was amazing!!)
Okay, wow. Just, fucking, wow. That got dark SUPER fuckin' quick, and I did NOT see that coming!
Now that I've seen Zora's backstory, I'm more lenient on his obnoxious attitude especially since, once again, he has the skills to back it up. Also, I really like his design even though it makes no fucking sense (which is like 90% of anime character designs anyway, so whatevs). Seeing Mimosa really take initiative and even talk back to Zora is awesome and really shows how much she's grown. And speaking of growth, HOLY FUCKING SHIT, Noelle destroyed Solid's ass! But really, he's turned his water into a snake and he thinks its going to beat her FUCKING WATER DRAGON! Like bro, I get that underestimating her's your schtick, but what made you think your piddly snake would beat a MOTHERFUCKING DRAGON?!
On a completely unrelated note, I loved seeing Luck, Magna, Asta, and Charmy intervene when Langris went to kill Finral. Granted, Charmy was away from the arena, but she, like everyone else, looked ready to throw down at a moments notice. Not only that, Luck looked terrifying, like he was ready to fucking murder Langris if he dared to touch Finral. Once again, this scene reinforces how close the Black Bulls are, considering Luck and Asta weren't even participating in the current match. I'm curious to see what the consequences of this incident are going to be and how it will affect the reputation of the magic knights, in terms of how both knights and civilians perceive them.
Not sure if the arc's close to wrapping up or not, but this has been an enjoyable yet intense arc. Curious to see what happens next!
Started this one waiting in my car, and finished it later that night. I love this series and manga in general from the adventures it can take you on quickly, but is so enjoyable if you find the right ones you are into. Book 14 in the Black Clover series was no different. The Royal Knight exams continue with the 3v3 battles, and are thoroughly enjoyable, keeping you on the edge of your seat. Overall, another 5 star read, and will be continuing straight into 15 because I have some spare time and that ending needs to be continued with.
MASSIVE improvement in this volume. I was definitely surprised with the amount of action and power that was showcased in this chapter. We finally get to see the backstory of Finral before he finally goes off and faces his brother in an epic battle that left me incredibly enraged in the end. I literally jumped right out of my seat reading this one.
“Go on, try messing with him again. I dare you. Forget the match. We’ll kill you.”
The energy is wild—fast-paced fights, dramatic tension, and a few unexpected laughs that somehow just work. The art brings every clash and emotion to life, and the action never slows down for too long. It’s the kind of volume that gives you a little bit of everything: rivalries, power-ups, team dynamics, and a few moments that are genuinely hilarious in the middle of all the chaos.
There’s one particular scene that’s an absolute standout, where characters rush in to protect one of their own—it’s intense, emotional, and a perfect example of how this series balances loyalty and power struggles. You also get some quieter character moments that help flesh out personal motivations, but they’re sometimes buried under heavy exposition or reused story beats. It doesn’t always feel fresh, even when the fights are solid.
Still, if you’re reading for the combat, teamwork, and wild magic strategies, this volume delivers. The mix of serious and ridiculous somehow clicks, even when it teeters on being too much. It’s not the strongest entry in the series, but it keeps things moving and throws in just enough to keep you turning the pages.
This was a brilliant volume. As can be observed from the cover, the main focus of this volume is on the brothers Langris and Finral together with Asta. There are many fights like the previous volume but the one that everyone remembers is probably between Finral's team and Langris' team (well maybe later Asta versus Langris). We also learn more about a couple of characters' pasts. It was a really good book. I'm curious about the next one.
I love this manga, it makes me believe that there is always a chance to be better and improve myself, and that there are people in the work striving for the same thing ❤️

The Royal Knights Selection Exam continues! Who will end up on the final team?
Highlights: - Yuno and Noelle's team overcome by a huge margin, with Yuno showing Sandler that true power doesn't only come from the nobility, and Noelle overcoming her weakness and fear to show that she can defeat her brother Solid. - Round 2 begins, with the landscape being changed. - First fight is between Asta/Mimosa/Xerx and Kirsch Vermillion/Sol Marron/Magna. During the battle, Asta discovers a new spell/technique he calls "Black Asta" which covers part of his body in anti-magic. Very effective, but exhausting. Magna and Asta battle it out and both have gotten much faster. Kirsch is a royal who demands that things be "beautiful", but Asta and Mimosa show him that folly and he is humbled. Asta destroys the crystal and their team wins. - The next teams come up, but it really boils down to the battle of the brothers: Finral vs Langris. Both have powered up a lot and Langris's team wins, but he almost kills Finral and seems possessed. Asta steps in to fight Langris and defend Finral, but the Wizard King stops the fight. - They get their opportunity to fight as the 3rd round begins. Langris puts a constant barrage on Asta, who through healing from Mimosa, is able to keep up. - We get a back story on "Xerx" who is actually Zora Ideale, the son of a Purple Orca who rose to magical power getting justice against the other Orcas who betrayed and killed his father because of him not being royal. Taking the identity of Xerx Lugner, one of the Purple Orcas who is dead, he is able to enter the exam. Zora is very good with his trap magic, even being able to use it to reflect Langris' spatial magic. Zora longs for Magic Knights who can be helpful and just like his father was. - The Volume ends with Asta destroying the crystal with "Black Asta - Black Lightning" but I get the feeling the fight isn't over... because Langris still seems possessed...
The exam continues in the next Volume. Can't wait! Recommend. (So glad I came back to this manga!)
We finally got some real battles! Battles that matter! Emotionally, I mean. Noelle vs Solid was a sibling grudge match as was Finral vs Langris, with some great displays of power and conflicted emotions. The 'main' matchup with Asta/Mimosa/"Xerx" and Kirsch/Sol/Magna actually had some neat stuff too. Seeing Asta and Magna go all-out against each other is a cool callback to when Asta first joined the Black Bulls and the inter-team rivarly shows a whole new side of their relationship.
Though there are some missteps. The motivation/personality/design for "Xerx" is just... Stain from My Hero Academia, basically. I don't think it helps for Black Clover to steal one of the most iconic antagonists from yet another Shonen Jump series and not do anything to make him different. Hell, they both work around restricted movement (blood paralysis vs magical traps). Sure, "Xerx" is pretty neat, but it's distracting and brings the series right back to feeling like a generic shonen mishmash instead of something unique.
Oh and the main plot and the Wizard King's purpose behind this tournament feels... questionable? A plot introduced with little foreshadowing and interrupts the (what was surprisingly good) pacing of the tournament.
I think competitions between comrades in action manga are boring. These competitions are only written for introduction to characters, usually because shit is about to get crazy, which will involve many new characters. It’s also to get information on everybody’s power and the level of power they have.
But, sometimes, they can be interesting in other ways. For this volume, I mostly liked the backstories.
Why is no one questioning where Asta got a dark black power?? It merges perfectly with the right half of his body, it twists and crawls up and down. He is enveloped by it on one side, with a wing and a horn???? Why aren’t they asking what the new spell is? Even the wizard king. Which is unlike his character, to not want to know, because he’s a magic nerd.
Asta sensed weird unknown dark fluid swirling around in his Ki inside his body. He visualizes that to activate this new power. Asta didn’t question it himself either. But he can be dumb. Captain Yami is an expert on reading Ki, so why hasn’t he noticed either?
The tournament arc continues as a showcase of our main characters' new powers, mixed in with random newbies to pad things out a bit. As these things go, the tournament plot is hijacked by SERIOUS BUSINESS and I guess it turns out Finral's brother is a puppet for the bad guys? I'm actually mildly surprised not-Hisoka turns out to be an actual good guy, as this manga generally plays things so straight I was expecting "guy who seems suspicious" to turn out to be actually suspicious. So, good for Tabata, I guess.
The more I see it, the more I become uncertain on Black Asta. Have we really seen other dudes transform in such a way that it boosts magic power? It feels like Asta's ki stuff makes him too much a Dragon Ball/One Piece/Hunter x Hunter character trapped in a fantasy world with a wildly different power-system from his own. The idea is kinda cool, but also feels a little bullshit, or at least like a parody; I'm reminded of Mash Burnedead sometimes....

This issue of black clover is one of, if not the best issue up to this point. It gives great character development to the character Finral. It also provides a great backstory for the mysterious character introduced in the prior issue. I find that the action segments are some of the most captivating in the series so far. The combat has a very consistent and well thought out push and pull to it. It also shows some of what the characters have done in their downtime between the events we are actually able to see. It puts the results of their labors on display in some of the best ways possible. It shows that the characters we see aren't under the reader's constant supervision, allowing for them to make decisions that the audience isn't aware of.
The first round concludes at the beginning of this volume…so there is much more wizard battling to be had. The Magic Crystal Destruction Battle Tournament Round 2 is well on its way within the confines of this volume of Black Clover. The venue is changed for the next round, which so reminded me of Dragon Ball Z battles that got out of control. (That’s a good homage in my opinion) Yuki Tabata crafts another fun entry, and the characters continue to develop, not only techniques but their interactions help flush out more and more about the characters. Lots of good stuff in this volume but the final pages truly pushed this book to the 4-star level!
The tournament arc continues as Noelle faces down her abusive big brother. Then Asta and his team go up against Magna, Sol, and that narcissistic aristocrat.
Then we get Finral's backstory just in time for him to face off against his prodigy of a little brother. And that fight is intense! Like geez, dude, your inferiority complex is worse the Bakugou! (My Hero Academia) Yes, I've officially found a character worse than Bakugou!
Estuvo bastante divertido.

Trying to find the spy in the ranks How come a tie is a loss :/ :/ :/ It was a bit fun But lets head back to the main story
