No questions. No strings. No names.
Suddenly her future flies into a tailspin that lands her back in the lawless wild west of space. It's a fight for life, love, and a future she didn't think was possible any longer.
Will she survive it?

Poppy is a small-town American girl, living in a tiny Canadian hamlet, who spends her days pounding on the keyboard, drinking tea, and living one step outside of reality. Her retirement plan is to be abducted by the aliens she writes about, but for now, she enjoys life with her husband, their three cats, and when she’s not getting sucked into cute animal videos, you can normally find her with her nose in a book.

Completely worth the wait! I loved this book and only put it down because of that thing called 'life'. But I gobbled this book up in two days. I loved Val'Koy from the first Melier books, so I was excited when Poppy announced he was getting his book. And surprise surprise (though not really a surprise since Poppy said this was a m/f/m book), there is a second mate of a race that didn't get along with the meliers, but forced together, those two created a strong, unbreakable bond. Throw a human into the mix, and boom! This was hot. And oh I adored Jruviin. He was sweet and caring, but he could be as rawr as Val'Koy. I wanted to run my fingers through his soft feathers myself. And his *cough*...that was something. Though Poppy is known for getting creative. *Wink* Her heroines are adorable with their sexy but dangerous mates.
Anyway! No spoilers here. This is as action packed, sizzling, and hilarious as her previous works. If you love alien romance and haven't picked up a Poppy Rhys book, do so!
I love Poppy Rhys' voice. Witty & snappy dialogue and a delightfully fast-paced story was what I was hoping for, and yes oh yes, I GOT IT. Settling in with Prodigal Son was a treat! I laughed, I was entertained-- I mean, I was entertained.
But more than that, I didn't expect to *feel* for Val--but when he learns what he lost... awww!
My heartstrings get tugged HARD for our our poor prince.
And I enjoyed Jruviin's temperament, and his rapport with Val and his easy affection for Dania. He's so relaxed--and so nice, especially when you see what he comes from.
We got to see our friends from previous stories, and we met some new ones. I even got a kick out of the upgraded Zed: "Who are we murdering today?" "EVERYBODY!" Zed shouted evilly. XD
It's hard to find stories that I can sit through lately, but with this one, I had no trouble. If you're looking for snark, and sci fi, and crazy hot CRAZY slimy sex--do not miss this one!
Another fantastic addition to the Women of Dor Nye series in the basket. And it was nothin' but strait net baby.
Poppy Rhys weaves the weird, strange, funny, and fantastical all together one entertaining read. And lets be real; her creativity when it comes to steamy times between humans and aliens, seriously laves you considering abduction. It's very difficult to write this review, because I don't want to give a single thing away, about the story or Dania/Val'Koy/Jruviin's relationship. But lets just say, it's more than worth every second.
And River GAAAAHHHHH. So dang friggin snuggle bug fiercely cute.
I Absolutely HATED this book and while I see I'm completely in the minority at the moment I really don't know why.... First let me say, there WILL be spoilers,so it that bothers you please look away now, because I can not express exactly what I disliked/hated about this book soo much w/out spoilers. Sorry but that's just how it is... I'm mainly writing this to help me get over this book soo I can move on and get it out of my head but also after seeming some of the gushing other reviews that use words like "fairytale" I feel someone NEEDS to be a counter balance to them... Honestly I'm still not sure what the writer was going for hours after finishing this story. Ok, first we have Val'Koy and Dania. Val decides to "try" a human and see if he's been missing something. He wants to see what all the fuss is all about. He wants to see what his brothers soo excited. He meets Dania and promptly ticks her off by offering to pay her. Dania for some reason has been under surveillance by his families arch foe the emperor of the "Trepnil's", long before Val every comes across her. Why ? That's never explained, and rather odd because the Trepnils while supremely evil they never came off as all that intelligent (which is shown later in the story). Anyway, after Dania is dumped via (what passes as a phone) for supposedly being too fat, she has to go and be a cliche by going to get candy. (not just any candy but "skittles",not only would I not expect that candy to still be around 100's years in the future but on another planter worlds away ?) (shakes head,is "Apple" still around as well ?) Any way she and Val meet again in the store and she agree's to go and F with him in a scene that is not only uninspiring and bland,it feels more about where the candy goes and or lands than it does anything else. Un romantic and un sexy and just made me wonder why ? Anyway months supposedly pass and Val soo hooked on her sent still (having a pair of her stolen panties to sniff, doesn't help) csn't get it up for any one else. His body seems to have imprint one her and though his mind hasn't caught up he doesn't really want anyone else. Val is them duped/conned by the emperor into believing he left behind more than a messy bed,soo w/out any proof other vague pics he gives himself over to be used and abused gladiator rings. another male is added in Jruviin. Jru is sold to the fight rings by his heartless father. Jru's culture treats women the way the Melier females treat men. He becomes Val's teammate in the rings.after about six months or soo fighting together Dania is taken and used as a prize to win. this is about 34/40% thru the book. Now by not I've long since started to skim. Not soo much the fights but I've seen how Ms. Rhys and the Trepnil's treat h's and I didn't need to go there again. I did read some and while not as bad as Lucia in the first book, she is of course humiliated and kept naked and caged. anyway. Dania had long since started to feel less than sharp to me (I think maybe she could cut warm butter but that's about it) and I'd never formed a connection to either...Dania is an odd one she goes between slightly brave and aggressive one minute to stupidly scared to ,"Hey stop playing w/my cellulite." the next... Seriously ? your on some far off planet, clinging to two stranger to protect you,one is arousing you w/his touch and you get ticked coz his fondling has you thinking about your "cellulite"? Seriously ?Dania, while she had her moments she was you basic TSTL . Quick to jump to conclusions and judgments eager to rush in w/out thinking. The trio start to bond while on the gladiator planet but honestly for both males it felt more tied to pheromones and convince than anything else..same for Dania only sans the pheromones. The guys while protective of her and very territorial towards her, well there's no spark,it's just three ppl trying to survive w/one led around on a leash because we all know to many cultures want to treat women n like that... I guess it can see it being for "her safety" but .... Why she's even there doesn't make sense. She was what go Val there, tto let him know it was all a lie doesn't make sense. (but none of this really did) They finally escape, one a stolen ship, of course it get damaged and thinking,"I might die,soo why not." Dania finally starts a sexual relationship w/the guys. That barely get's started between them (just sex ,no declarations or anything deep and meaningful, unless it's her having them both at the same time)when a few days later they are approached w/an offer to help. "Help" that will take them to a planet where all the male are gay and females only exist to do the things males don't want to do,be abused and debased and bear them children while they are abused and debased. deep sigh. Now,to me this story soo DID. NOT. need to go there. There are soo many planets or places these three could have ended up,that don't include more NEEDLESS debasement and abuse for the h. Abuse the "H's" don't even try to avoid by opting to stay on their ship or hiding her or even trying to disguise her as a possible twink or something in a all male menage. NOTHING. I hate it when a writer "warning" or not throws around "dark" things like this like confetti at a party just because. We'd already had enough of this kind stuff already in the story, what we needed next was the three getting a chance to come together and gel as a couple in ways that didn't involve fear or sex. This was needlessly "dark" in all the ways you'd expect a planet like this to be and really stupid that two such well traveled males would allow a female they supposedly care about into this situation. They finally escape, barely get away, have to be rescued AGAIN! and get to Val's home world just in time to keep Dania from dying.deep breath. but wait that's more. dear gods. by now I've felt like I'd been skimming and reading forever and felt it would NEVER end.babies are born. Jru is almost sent off to prison, due to his past life w/his father. Dania comes up w/an idea to save him, basic loosely on their current version of "Law and Order" i think. and eventually we get to the end where Lucia now has at least 4 kids and soo does Val and co. and Dania tells us they have a HEA. and I wonder what compelled me to stay w/a train wreck of a supposed "romance", where the only "I love you" is from Jru to Val,when Val is trying to tell Jru how much he cares about him in that "I'm soo straight that telling another guy I care makes me really uncomfortable" kinda way. So Jru says," I love you too." and they both laugh. That was another thing that threw me off here. The guys were completely in sync in that best friends/band of brothers kinda way. They were in sync mentally and emotionally, closer than brothers but not lovers . Which was confusing at times w/how they were constantly referring to each other as mates almost constantly after a while. which might make sense in England or Oz or some place where mate = friend, but in this situation w/it meaning husband, wife, spouse or at least lover,it made me cringe every time I saw it and yet it made more sense between the two guys almost more than it did w/Dania. With Dania it never stopped feeling like everything was based on hormones/pheromones and kinda "she's ours and we want her". No public decorations,no "I love you's" (between her and the men) only Dania being told second hand Val wanted to be marked. Marked after she had had his children. Soo what was this ? Not a romance, not for me any way. A fairy tale ? only if the brother Grimm were involved. What do you call a story where the two male leads have a better and deeper understanding of each other than they do w/"their" female and they aren't even gay ? Everyone here mainly felt like they just decided to stay where they had been thrown w/plenty "dark/disgusting" parts thrown in,just because. Honestly the ONLY part I liked was River. River was awesome and I'd love one just like him for myself. River is an interesting combination of a sweet, protective kinda "werewolf",whose ppl are like a cross between a pack and a hive. They have queens and drones. and the males are they to either breed the queen, protect the queen/alpha or do whatever it is drones do. He finds Dania on the gladiator world some how bonds w/her and she becomes his to protect. LOl, he was cute and funny and sweet and I laughed every time he treated "Mine!" like it was her name. She tried to correct him but that just became "Mine Dania". River was like a very sentient guard dog that adores you and ALWAYS has your back. Lol ;) Honestly while I deeply loathed this book, especially after all those "glowing" reviews,I would love to read a short story that was centered around River because he was smartest "person" in the whole book. Honestly I think this could have been a good story of how Val finally grew up and grew a real heart, like say the horny version of the Grinch. Val wasn't a prodigal son,for the good reasons or the bad. The "Prodigal Son" in the Bible left his family for selfish reasons,Val left for selfless ones (even if he was conned) and while Val did grow up and change some, the book ends w/out any real tender moments,or great revaluations between his heroine and the only one he even infers the words "I love you" to are Jru. I can't recommend this hot mess. It's needlessly dark in ways that seem to exist purely for shock value and doesn't even really give you a love story or a romance. How others can read all this and give it 5 stars is beyond me but then again ppl did the same thing years ago where the main male character is sold to a pedophile as a child and raped repeatably before you even make it 1/2 thru the book. Soo I say if your curious read my long review here and then if you still want to read the book but please don't go in expecting "fairytales" coz this ain't . Bye Ms. Rhys, good luck and fare well. I'll always appreciate "The Melier" but I can't take this ride any more...
Long awaited and SO worth the wait! Melier and Draekiin are genetically related, but diametrically opposed in ways of life. Val’Koy is a sybaritic Royal. Jruviin is a poor fit with his people and a grave disappointment to his father. Their experiences after they meet refine them into harder, take-charge males, though violent out of necessity. The result: males to win a woman’s heart. With Dania, they are protective, gentle, and loving. Dania is a delightful heroine. She’s endured so much, but doesn’t give up. She’s not truly confrontational, but don’t mess with her guys! These three and Dania’s other protector go through the fires of hell before they make their way back home. Awesome storytelling!
I would give the first 1/4 of the novel a solid 5 stars. The writing was brilliant. The characterisation was strong, and the storyline seemed intriguing. However, somewhere around the 25% mark, the book took a turn for the worse.
****SPOILERS below****
The plot made no sense. Why would the Trepnil emperor kidnap Dania, after having successfully used her as a hostage and bargaining chip against ValKoy for so many months? This stupid decision led to ValKoy refusing to fight, which resulted in the emperor losing money from the games and eventually, losing his gladiators. From the enemy's perspective, there was simply no logical reason for the emperor to do it - he'd had the upper hand, he had the prince exactly where he wanted him. Dania was no use to him in the gladiator pits, and certainly not once the prince realised he'd fallen for a ruse and she became a distraction. It's clear the only reason this happened is that the author wrote herself into a tight spot and needed some way to bring the three characters together - which was stupid, seeing as how Dania and ValKoy already had a solid meet-cute within the opening chapters and she could have just built on that!
My next complaint: Dania was just TSTL. I started out liking her (a BBW, sexually confident female is a type I can get behind!) but then steadily grew more and more out of love. I can't stand heroines who do or say stupid, attention-grabbing things when they know they're not supposed to. Dania's greatest flaw - her poor decisionmaking - meant that she tended to act first and then think later, which led to some really face-palmy scenes. It's a pet peeve of mine when women get mouthy and start fights that they won't have to finish. Dania opened her big mouth and said or did some dumb stuff, which then led to her needing to get rescued by her men. In fact, let's just say that 90% of the action in this book is Dania getting into trouble and needing to be rescued. I understand that she's a human and therefore considerably weaker than those around her, but tbh, that only makes it worse that she consistently disregards her own safety and leaps into dangerous situations.
Further, the last 25% of the novel was so, so rushed. Instead of developing the bond between the new family and giving us some details on how they planned to resettle back to their old lives, we're thrust into a final bit of drama/action with Jru(?) and his dad getting pulled up by the Intergalactic Council or whatever. That whole bit was so pointless. It barely lasted more than a chapter or two before it was resolved so there was no real tension, it just felt like filler. Then all the extra sections from Lucia's POV were equally unnecessary (as an aside, I felt that it was incredibly rude of her to divulge the issue of ValKoy's sister in the way she did, and it put him on the back foot with his mate which he did not deserve) because her story has clearly finished and it would have been just as fine to read about her through Dania's eyes rather than going back into Lucia's POV. That said, I liked the epilogue. It was short and sweet.
All in all, there were some really strong points and I commend Poppy Rhys on her writing abilities, which have grown leaps and bounds since Melier #1. However, I do feel that this book didn't truly deliver on it's promise.
Dania's life is complicated enough. A kitchen accident damaged her eye, she then lost her job due to a lack of depth perception, she gets a new job in a bar after getting a new eye, gets dumped via comm by the guy she's been dating a year now, and meets a prince in disguise. That last part seems like it would be a good thing, it just wasn't at the time. While things were definitely exciting, it was just 1 night for both of them. Or, it was supposed to be. Until she starts seeing things, gets kidnapped and sold, then sold, then tossed in an arena. Just who is writing the crazy melodrama script her life is following these days??
Spoilers ahead. I have enjoyed the majority of this series. I wasn't a fan of 3&4, the female main characters were a little narcissistic and childish to me. In fact, in The Yarin I didn't really like either MC and while she redeemed herself, he didn't really- not in my opinion. But, 5 roped me back in and 6 gave me back my Meliers. Trigger warnings for assault, stalking, rape (not our FMC and it cuts scene quickly), and captivity. This is Val'Koy's story, but he isn't alone. This is a m/f/m, sort of like the relationship Soren and Val'Zun have with Lucia but Jruvriin was born his enemy, not his brother. A certain annoying Trepnil makes a reappearance, the evil mastermind behind what Dania, Val and Jru go through. I can't give too many plot points away, but the one referencing the rape, I feel needs to have more than just the warning for readers. During their escape they take shelter on a non-allied world. The culture there is decidedly male dominated. Men mate with a male partner, and females are only incubators. Literally, that's how they're referred to. They fight for the honor of being chosen by ranking pairs to birth their kids but have no value as beings. Getting pregnant isn't fun for them. Hence the warning. Otherwise, the story contains Rhys' usual humor and hilarity. Dania is a retro fan, loves all things from the Earth's 1990s. Val is his usual pain in the butt self. Jru is the softest and mushiest, well, I'm not giving up his background, but I will say he should have been hard and brittle after all life threw at him. But he's a feathered marshmallow. And then 2 more crazy characters enter their lives in an unusual way and cranks the zany dial to 11. I am so happy to see this series continuing and I seriously hope we see Ren get his own book soon. The mystery behind the scar and the hints that have been dropped have been dancing in the back of my head far too long now lol.
What a wonderful book, it was long but I still didn't want it to finish. The plot was engaging and imaginative, everything was excellent. The MC has a one night stand for the first time with an alien species, has marvellous sex, he leaves. No names, no history. Life goes on for both of them. Then the male alien gets blackmailed and lied to by an evil lizard man to go to a place or his human girl alongside with their child will be hurt. There is no child. He spends a year fighting for his life alongside another male who is considered an enemy of his race. She then gets kidnapped and offered as a price in the gladiator games. The pair of aliens win her and from then on they are on a constant run. So many things happen that it would be pointless to name them, just know that the adventure is worth it.
Main points: *different aliens *sex with aliens, 4 arms, feathers, weird penises *space opera *quite realistic experiences in terms of bodily functions, pain, abuse *healthy dynamic between the characters
This story was like the fairytale a girl dreams of eventually. This trip (Val, Jru, and Dania) had to work for and overcome so.e seemingly huge and endless obstacles to get their fairytale ending but they didn't give up. I loved every part of the relationship in this trip fro. The undercurrent of history running between each of them to the super hot passion that no one shied away from. This story was a sci-fi adventure filled with love, loss, suspense, romance, and aliens who are alien. Now while you might be able to read this alone, it's probably best read at least after Lucia's story. Because we do see some interactions and glimpses of her, her fami!y and previous characters ( which I always enjoy). I also loved Zed he was hilarious. I'm hoping we get more stories from this world and group in the future maybe one for Gi-ren or the like. Seriously a great book with a super perfect HEA, would recommend.
Someone in a readers group recommended this series to me. I love Alien romance series but find it hard to find ones where there isn’t insta-love and the character development is shoddy. I was so happy when I started book one and and quickly discovered this series rocked! I started reading book one on Friday night and here it is Tuesday at 1:45am and I am just finishing Prodigal son. Which is probably my FAVORITE so far!
I love the m/f/m relationship she developed where the men feel more than just a connection to their female mate. They depend on one another. I wish she developed that relationship more within the books. Because I loved the idea of it. But, I must confess, I am a why choose girl and I am always looking for RH pairings that go beyond the norm. I do highly recommend this series and will definitely be referring it in the future.
This is great as a stand-alone but is also a brilliant addition to the series This has only just been published so I am not adding spoilers but if you have read and enjoy any of Poppy’s other books, then you need to read this.
I received an ARC copy of this book (thank you), but I forgot how much I loved these books and this author. I am off to re-read the earlier books
Huzzah🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻 For this book! The much anticipated 6 book in the series and Val’koy’s ( younger brother from book 1 and 2 ) throw in an earth girl Dania and a feathered Alien Jru... and you have a GOO-lorious and gripping ménage that just keeps giving.
Along with the lashing of bodily liquids this book was a brilliant fast paced and action packed offering that gripped me from start to finish. I loved seeing our ‘old friends’ from book one and two. So worth the wait ♥️♥️
I am so happy with this book I could cry! This series has been one of my favorites for a long time and this new book just adds to my obsession. The oldest of the princes finally gets his book and his own human. But what happens when he has to share with one of his peoples rivals? How will Dania deal with TWO mates and a companion? Find out!
In my humble opinion...Yaass. I loved this book . Action, adventure, humour and hot steamy romance. Characters and images so vividly portrayed. Just don't make me wait so long again please. Thanks Poppy Rhys you are awesome.
It started off well, but as the story went on, I became annoyed with the heroine. She had a few TSTL moments and she overreacted a lot, including at inappropriate times. I also didn’t get her humour. It was an okay read overall.
Dnf. I can't stand curvy girls who can only think and remark about their weight the entire story. The constant remarks about weight, fat, giggly thighs, and cellulite were off-putting, especially during what would have been sexy moments.
This goes back to a lot of plot points of the first Melier book, but cranks them to 11. This is mostly action and adventure instead of romance.
There is some dark stuff in here.
When you think the book is ending, it isn't. These characters all jump from the frying pan into the fire, then into the lava, the into the flippin' sun. Even when things get better, there will be more crazy plot twists.
This is a small thing, but there is a strange oversight during the epilogue (so a teeeeeeny spoilery thing, so don't keep scrolling if you haven't read the book and you care):
It's years later, there are multiple children. We know how many.... One of them is mysteriously never named or mentioned. We learn that so-and-so is a chewer, and little facts, but nothing about the mystery child. River, the wolfy guy, is brought up a bunch here, so unless one of the children is also named River, which would be very odd, the author just forgot.
This book was one heck of a ride. It wasn’t a slow build up to one big action scene, it all came in waves. Oh Val has Dania again and all will be resolved? Wrong, bring on the battle. Oh good they escaped, we’re good now right ? NOPE, run for your lives ! I found the development of relationships very interesting, the opposite sides of Val and Jru in their approach. And when the two guys had that amazing bromance moment? Swoon. I love the way this author writes these different races with all their individual cultures, even if we only really spend a chapter or two there. You still walk away not feeling like you’re missing something.
So the next book is Ren and come on, can you even imagine what they will be like ? Can’t wait.
This story is just a good story with good characters and a few villains. The author takes us on quite the journey from crazy to hilarious to silly to devastating moments. The female lead is hilarious. She is strong and fierce but had a soft side too. She is tired of being poor and trying to work her way out. She takes on a second job baby sitting and that’s how an evil emperor takes advantage of her as well as the lead male Prince. This evil emperor lies to the lead male Prince and forces him into a type of slavery where he has to fight on the emperor’s behalf for large sums of money. But also to save the life of the female lead. It’s good stuff. . . . Read on!
Throughout the series there were a lot of things i didn't like. This book seemed bloated, and we STILL have no story for Ren,but overall this was a nice cap to the series. I enjoyed that koy matured, and jru was a good storyline also. The cameos of previous characters was nice, and of course an HEA goes a long way towards forgiveness of all other mistakes. What i RABIDLY hated was the constant references to her weight and her insecurity. The book literally flowed better when that stopped coming up every 10 pages. So in short, books 1 and 2,PERFECTION. Three-decent. 4,TERRIBLE,5 decent,6 decent. In totality,a worthwhile read.
Bought The series on a friend's recommendation last year and after reading The first one and finding that it sooo closely resembled one of my favorite book's, I stopped reading and removed the download. Bored I looked thru my unread ebooks and found this one. Just couldn't get thru it, the intimate scenes are not well done at all. They were just the opposite especially as the h was a curvy girl. She was written as being proud of her curves for the first chapter only. She came off as unattractive, a bit desperate and slutty. A curvy myself I was offended, the writers descriptions of 'love scenes' read more like trash porn. Deleting.
Another book I had on my TBR list, and finally had the time to get it read. I enjoyed this immensely, especially as the male characters developed over the course of the book from who they were originally when they started out, and even more so when they realised hat the female they won was their mate.
I liked the different challenges they faced and it was fun seeing the AI come to life with slang from the past. A good read.
Funny, sexy, bad ass women, intriguing aliens and a great story is what you’re in store for in The Melier “ Prodigal Son “ I have thoroughly enjoyed every book in this series and this book was no exception. It was quite the ride and if you’re looking for some out there aliens, this is the series for you. Complete with unusual and freaky Peens😁 Submerse yourself into the world of Melieran and the women of Dor Nye!
This was quite the journey. A lot goes on and happens to the main characters. You see some definite growth. Definitely some anxiety for how much crap they have to go through, without any seeming hope for a long time. But of course they get their happy ever after, and it’s worth sticking through to the end.
For the most part I enjoyed this book and can’t get enough of Ms. Poppy’s alien men. There were sad parts that just made me stay sad but their love was a journey of trials. Will continue to read more by this author.
So long. So odd. This just is not my thing anymore. Icky but written well i suppose. It was decent and I would’ve liked it more years ago. Now it’s just cringe. Good characters just not good dynamics.
