Marta Perry is a Pennsylvania-based author of over 35 novels, many of them inspirational romances. She uses her rural Pennsylvania life and her Pennsylvania Dutch heritage in writing her books, especially in her Pleasant Valley Amish series for Berkley Books and her new Amish-set suspense series for HQN Books.
Marta and her husband live in a centuries-old farmhouse in a quiet central Pennsylvania valley. They have three grown children and six beautiful grandchildren, and when she's not busy writing her next book, she's usually trying to keep up with her gardening, baking for church events, or visiting those beautiful grandkids.
I've read a lot of Marta Perry's books but in my opinion I find The Widows Heart to be one of her best. It's a story of forgiveness when someone has hurt you to the core of your heart . This is a different type of Amish story and that's why I enjoyed it so much. I think anytime a book can keep me up late and bring this reader to tears that it's definitely a five star book. Beth Esch has only been a widow for a month. Her husband James was killed when a speeding car struck his buggy late one night. Beth is still deeply grieving his death when her cousin and best Friend Lydia urges her to get rid of James clothes. The two are boxing up his clothes when Beth finds a note hidden in his chest of drawers. It's a note from another woman asking James to meet her at their usual place. The note is unsigned but has a heart drawn on it. Beth's world has been just torn apart by her late husband's betrayal of their marriage. Lydia and Beth decide to keep this from the rest of the family and especially her mother-in-law Sarah Esch. Beth's four year old son Benjy must never find out the truth about his father. Beth tries to get through this and forgive her husband but has a driving desire to find out who the other woman is. Was she an Amish woman or English woman ? Someone she knew or a total stranger? Daniel and the late James Esch were businesses partners of a General Store. Truthfully he had reasons to believe that James was cheating on his wife. The hard part was that Daniel had been friends with Beth for many years and secretly he had loved her for all those years. But the Charming James Esch had moved in on Beth and won her heart. Now after James's death Beth had become half owner of the store. What would she do about the store, Daniel wondered? Would she want to work the business with him or would she want to sell her share of the business? He hates to approach her about this important business matter while she is still deeply grieving James's death. This would be an excellent read for fans of Marta Perry, readers of Amish Fiction and Christian Fiction. I highly recommend it . I purchased a Kindle ebook copy of The Amish Widows Heart from Amazon. A favorable review was not requested. All opinions expressed here are my own.
I see the name 'Marta Perry' on a book cover and I get butterflies in my tummy and the excitement keeps mounting until I start reading and then I just lose myself in the story. This author fits into my must-read category and just having finished The Amish Widow's Heart, I'm reminded why.
The storytelling is exquisite. Word choice, pacing, characterization all woven together to make an unforgettable story of loss and betrayal and the very real struggle to forgive what seems unforgivable. Bethany and Daniel's longstanding friendship slowly nudges towards something deeper, but gently, respectfully given this widow's wounded heart. More of a promise of romance to come which is fitting for the circumstances. Lovely and sweet and thoughtprovoking.
The Amish Widow's Heart is the fourth book written by Marta Perry in her incredible series, Brides of Lost Creek. The author has done a fantastic job telling this story thru her well developed characters. The storyline gives you insight as to things aren't always as they seem. The author gets right to the heart of the story in the beginning pages drawing the reading into the mystery that envelopes this story.
I enjoyed getting to know the characters Bethany Each and Daniel Miller. Friends since they were small children gives them insight as to how each will think and react to trying situations. Bethany's late husband was a partner with Daniel in their grocery store business but now Bethany has to decide to sell her share of remain partners for the sake of her young son. Some in the Amish community believe she should sell as women belong at home which sets Bethany on edge. When Bethany discovers a clue to what was really was happening with her late husband it creates distress and infuriates her making her decision more difficult. The mystery that unfolds to the death of her husband brings Bethany to her knees.
I did not receive a complimentary copy of this book to read and review. I was not approached to post a favorable response. I have rated this story with five stars for meeting my expectations of a wonderful story that I can highly recommend to others. This author never disappoints her readers.
Congratulations to Marta Perry on releasing another fantastic story for her readers enjoyment.
Bethany, a recent widow, discovers a secret her husband has kept from her. She is the mother of a sweet little 4 year old boy that requires a lot of her attention. She is now part owner of a store where her husband and his best friend, Daniel ran. Daniel has ask her to work several hours a day until she decides what she wants to do with her share. After Bethany learns the truth about her husband can she still maintain the friendship with Daniel?

Another great story in this series. I just love Marta Perry stories. She is an awesome writer and you feel like you stepped into the story and know the characters.
Good storyline. Lovely realistic characters and I loved the friendship that Daniel and Beth had throughout the story. It was heartwarming and really entertaining.
It was a great read. There were ups and down throughout the whole book. I was a little surprised the the other women was Anna. I was thinking it was her but she was so young. Then the back and for between Beth and Daniel was interesting. I was rooting for them the whole time. I was glad to see they were going to end up together after everything that they went through together.
