A shared past…
Riley Glen’s former girlfriend, recording artist Leah Kent, is performing at a summer concert nearby and calls to tell him she’s in danger and needs his help. After the concert, he discovers her bending over a girl’s dead body, and the girl has Leah’s name freshly tattooed on her wrist. Leah claims she just found the body and didn’t have anything to do with the murder. When two other bodies are found, both boasting Leah’s name in bright ink on their wrists, she comes under suspicion for the murders. Riley jumps in to defend her from both an imminent arrest and a killer’s deadly rage.

A new beginning?
Riley and Leah had once been a music team and deeply in love. But Riley’s lifelong dream was to be a sniper, not a musician. He chose to follow his dream and has been successful in his career just as Leah has found success in hers. He still has feelings for Leah, but their lives are on vastly different courses. But when she begs for his help to clear her name and protect her, he agrees to do what he can. Riley soon discovers this killer is highly trained and vicious, and Leah won’t survive another day unless Riley uses every skill he possesses to try to save her.

'Is this it, God? You wanted me to come to the complete and total end of myself? Well, I have. Now what?

Susan Sleeman continues her cold Harbor series with this 5th offering. I absolutely love her suspense. It's unequalled. This one is Riley Glen's story. Riley and Leah Kent broke up 5 years ago when she didn't want to give up her singing career and he didn't want to give up his life as a police officer. Now she is famous and has a stalker, so she hires Blackwell Tactical, for whom Riley works, to find the stalker. On Riley's first night of guarding her, someone is murdered. The action only ratchets up from there.

But Leah has a huge secret she is keeping from Riley. If she tells him, will he continue to help find her stalker and solve the murder? Or will he bolt and never speak to her again? Leah has placed her trust in earning money to keep her secure, but she quickly is beginning to learn that only God can accomplish that in our lives.

Come along for another edge of your seat ride as Susan Sleeman takes her readers on another high-paced, action-packed suspenseful ride. I am a forever fan!

Susan Sleeman is a name synonymous with clean, high-tension romantic suspense. Sleeman will draw you in with her first sentence, and keep you captivated until the last. Cold Fear is book five in Sleeman’s latest series, Cold Harbor. While the books share many of the same characters, a different hero and heroine take center stage in each, and each book can be read as a stand-alone. However, meeting secondary characters makes me want to go back and catch their stories, too.

Leah hires her ex/fiancé, Riley, and his “second-chance” group, Blackwell Tactical Protection, to stop the stalker who has been terrorizing her. Leah and Riley, in close proximity, struggle both to remember what separated them in the past and to find a path circumventing these differences. All the while, desperation is in the air as the stalker turns to murder and neither Leah nor those surrounding her are safe.

I enjoy Sleeman’s stories because they are high-octane, yet filled with obstacles the main characters still must overcome. I found I was surprised at how realistic the differences between Leah and Riley are. Sometimes we think as people of faith all our problems will disappear. Leah and Riley still find they have to work together to smooth the rough spots between them. Strong differences cannot just be ignored.

I highly recommend Ms. Sleeman’s novels for anyone who likes faith-filled, fast-paced, page-flipping fun. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. This in no way influenced my opinions. I was not required to leave a positive review.

The Blackwell Tactical team is back! And growing!

When former Portland policeman receives a call from recording artist Leah Kent, he steps up to protect the woman he once loved from a stalker. But when a woman with connections to Leah is murdered backstage, Riley and the entire team band together to figure out who is behind the crime.
Oh, and then there’s the BIG secret Leah has kept from Riley for four years. One that is about to change his life (and oh boy, does he handle this in the best way).

Both Riley and Leah are challenged beyond their limits, leaving them no choice but to put their trust and faith in God. A feat that is especially difficult for Leah who has fought to gain her security.

Readers also get an introduction to the newest team member, Sam, a crime scene investigator in Cold Fear. She is a good fit for the rest of this team with their big personalities. In addition, it was a bit of fun to see a side of Eryn Calloway. Let’s just say she’s a bit star struck by Leah.

As always, Susan Sleeman kept me guessing as to who was behind the murders while embroiling me in the center of the investigation. I always learn something new about police work through Sleeman’s books. Yet, there is always a strong thread of faith, a lesson to be learned in those same books. Both things I thoroughly appreciate in these stories.

I am thoroughly looking forward to team jokester/pretty boy Alex meeting his match.

Riley and Leah have a past, a night together, then tells her he joined the Seals. For her she had her singing contract now. Now needing security, from a stalker, she calls his security team. A woman similar to her is murdered close to the stage how did she get In, from a dressing room window. Did the shooter think it was her. She tells him he has a son, and he takes them out to the compound, where they will be safe. His team, are surprised for he didn’t date, yet one looks at the boy one knew. They had choices, having been the victim of someone she trusted embezzled her money. With a singing career now lagging what was she to do. Her income was need for her son, and mother. While Riley was questioning going back into the service under a different set of rules. What was the plans for this little boy that already calls him daddy. Is there a different solution they hadn’t thought of. Good series, this one book lacked the edge to the plot
for the murder,but good.

The author takes us back to Cold Harbor and Blackwell Tactical. A group of men and women dedicated to protect those in need. This story belongs to Riley, a member of the group, and his ex-girlfriend Leah.
When Leah, calls Riley because she has a stalker that is threatening her , he rushes to her aid, even though she hurt him badly when she left him behind in pursuit of a singing career. Little does he know she kept a secret from him that will change his life.
The story was engaging , one filled with suspense, a stalker, a murderer and some romance. The characters were complex . Riley is determined to protect and do the right thing, while Leah is carrying emotional baggage and is single minded.
Her obsession with money and success is a reminder that our experiences in childhood , do in fact affect us as adults.
I found that the author has put more emphasis in God and his teachings, than other stories.
Trust and faith are a major topic throughout the story.
Another interesting and thought provoking story in this series.
I voluntarily read this copy. The opinions expressed are solely my own.

Susan Sleeman yet again pulls out another masterpiece. I honestly started Cold Fear thinking that I would not like it that much. But once I started it, I could not put it down. It was an enthralling read that was full of interesting and adorable characters. And of course seeing the Blackwell team again was awesome.
In Cold Fear you meet a new character, Leah. Leah is Riley’s old girlfriend, and also the mother of his son. Leah is quite a famous music artist, and the people around her keep ending up dead. To make things even more complicated a lot of evidence points to Leah as the murderer. The Blackwell team does not know whether to arrest or protect Leah, and it makes things even harder when the sheriff of Cold Harbor tries to arrest Leah.
I really liked that Riley never doubted Leah. Throughout the whole book, Riley always trusted Leah, even when it seemed like all of the evidence was pointed at her. It was so sweet how much he trusted her, and Leah definitely lived up to that trust. I enjoyed Leah’s character, and how she was different from the normal “I can’t be with him because I can’t trust someone”. Instead Leah wants to have financial safety because her family was poor, and Riley does not understand that all because he was born into a rich family.
I think that one thing that might have made the book better if it showed Riley understanding why Leah wanted to have financial guarantees. The book showed Leah realizing that she didn’t need financial security, but it didn’t show Riley understanding her side. However other than this fact, I really enjoyed Cold Fear. I also adored Owen, he helped make this book even better and seeing Riley being a dad was super cute. The suspense as always was amazing with so many twists and turns to keep you guessing. It was very clean, and the romance was adorable. I would highly recommend this book to teens and adults.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.

My review today is on the thriller, Cold Fear. This is the fifth book in the Cold Harbor Series. This book is awesome! I have really enjoyed this series and each one that comes out I think this one is the best. This story is well written, fast paced, and action packed. I know you are going to love it.

Singer Leah Kent is being stalked. The threats are getting more dangerous. Not knowing what else to do she calls her old boyfriend. They had once been a singer/writer team but she left him behind and went on with her career. Riley joined the military and is now in Blackwell Tactical, a law enforcement agency. How can she allow Riley in her life again after keeping their son a secret all these years. The first night Riley finds her leaning over a dead body covered in blood. After more bodies show up they realize someone is setting her up.

Ex-military Riley Glen was severely wounded and is now a part of the Blackwell family. They are the family he has always dreamed of. When Leah calls and asks for help there is no thought about whether he should go to help her. Bodies start showing up and Leah is framed for their deaths. How can he keep her safe? He soon meets his son, a son he never knew existed. Leah explains why she didn't tell him. Somehow he must keep her and his son safe and clear her name.

A journey of survival for this small family. Someone full of hate and vengeance trying to destroy them. God has a plan for them, a plan for a hope and a future. God has a plan for you two. You might not have someone out to destroy you but you do have an enemy that sole purpose is to kill, steal, and destroy you and all mankind but Jesus came to give you life and life more abundantly. Just give Him your heart.

PASSIONATE!

Cold Fear (Cold Harbor #5) by Susan Sleeman is filled with passion - the kind of passion as described by Dictionary.com as “any powerful or compelling emotion or feeling, as love or hate.” In Cold Fear, Sleeman masterfully writes a chilling tale of this kind of passion - where the characters are filled with the compelling emotions of love and cold blooded hate. This book may be read as a stand alone but needs to be read in order in the series to gain the maximum understanding of the characters and how they “fit” together. This compelling novel is about Blackwell Tactical Group’s Sharpshooter, Riley Glen. His former girlfriend, Leah Kent, now a Superstar Recording Artist has asked for his help with a stalker. What transpires at their initial meeting proves they both still have intense feelings for each other even though it’s been five years since they broke up. As the plot continues, Riley must attempt to keep his feelings in check - regardless of what news Leah gives him - in order to protect her life. This proves to be his greatest challenge of all - separating his personal feelings from his task at hand. Leah is struggling as well and is in the fight of her life. How will the Blackwell Tactical team members be able to rally and help Riley protect Superstar Leah? Who knows all Leah’s secrets? How many bodies will turn up before they are able to solve this case? Who hates Leah this much? A fantastic read from start to finish! I was provided an ARC of this book by the Author. The opinions expressed here are completely my own and without influence. I preordered a copy of this book for my own personal library.

Cold Fear is book five in Susan Sleeman‘s Cold Harbor series, featuring the security operators of Blackwell Tactical. In this installment, we follow sniper Riley Glen as he coordinates a protection detail for popular singer Leah Kent. Who is also his ex-fiance.

What Riley doesn’t know, what Leah has kept secret from every person in her life, is that she has a child. A four-year-old son. Riley’s son. But while Riley is the only person she fully trusts to protect her from a stalker, when murder complicates matters, she realizes she has to tell Riley the truth. No matter what the consequences might be.

I always like Susan Sleeman’s writing, but Cold Fear exceeded my usual enjoyment. I couldn’t put the book down! I kept wishing time would slow down so I could read just one. more. chapter. please?! Riley has always been one of my favorites on the Blackwell team and his story was everything I could have hoped it to be.

If you haven’t read the Cold Harbor series yet, I strongly suggest you do. Especially because Riley and Leah’s story isn’t one you want to miss.

"A woman's been murdered. Leah could be next."

Recording star Leah Kent could scarcely believe that she was staring into "eyes the exact color of their four-year-old son's eyes". Riley Glenn, the father of her son, who didn't even know that Owen existed. She'd had her reason, but now wasn't exactly the time to break the news; her former back-up singer had just been murdered backstage after a concert and Riley was here . . . . . why was Riley here again? Oh, that's right. Leah had hired Blackwell Tactical, Riley's current employer, to protect her from a persistent and increasingly brazen stalker. Was Jill's death simply an unfortunate case of mistaken identity or was Leah being cruelly set up to take the blame? After all, she had recently fired the victim.

Leah's desire to make music into a profitable career and Riley's desire to remain in law enforcement (and off the stage) had separated the two in the first place, but love's memory is proving difficult to erase. As they struggle to re-acclimate, the death count mounts, and it's looking more and more like Leah is going to be taken into custody. Can either, neither, or both of them put aside their personal fears in order to trust God completely with their futures?

"If we knew the future, then we wouldn't need faith, now would we?"

Once again, this author proves her superb plotting skills with this ingenious maze of false evidence.

Susan Sleeman has done it once again! This book follows another member of the Blackwell Tactical team, a group which I have come to feel as a "real" group! I love each one of this team! This time we focus on Riley and his lost love, Leah Kent. Leah is a popular recording artist now and yet, she feels she's in danger so calls on Riley to protect her from whatever is endangering her! Of course, Riley responds immediately because he's never forgotten her and has always felt the need to protect others. This book deals with a serial murderer and Leah being framed for it. Riley must separate his feelings for Leah and what is the truth. The Blackwell Tactical team has always supported its members in every situation and they continue to do this here. I love this team and how they support each other. There's a big surprise that Leah has for Riley in this book and it rocks his world! I found it wonderful how he took it in stride and didn't blow up! Also, the team supported him in this life-changing news. It's a great story and a fantastic suspense! It's a real page turner! I loved the characters! I highly recommend it!

Cold Fear is the fifth book in the Cold Harbor suspense series by Susan Sleeman. Recording artist Leah Kent, calls on her ex-boyfriend, Riley Glen to help protect her from a stalker. When women start turning up murdered, Leah is the prime suspect. Can Riley protect her and also prove her innocence? Talk about intense, this story was packed with moments of nail-biting suspense. When you pick up a story by Susan you know that you are in for a suspenseful ride. She doesn’t disappoint! I love the way she weaves in the spiritual content along with the danger. Even though her characters have flaws and make mistakes they use them as stepping stones in their walk with God. The overall theme of love and forgiveness is a reminder that all we have to do is be willing to listen to that Voice that will guide you to where you should be. In this story the interaction between the characters was very refreshing. They didn’t come off as some storybook hero and heroine but more as believable, every day people. I would highly recommend this series.

Cold Fear (Book #5) in the Cold Harbor series by Susan Sleeman has to be my favorite so far. I think it’s because I could relate so well to the main character, Leah. Not because she’s a famous singer; but because of the struggles she faced and her feelings surrounding them. One thought in particular is something I’ve been struggling to overcome lately – she was observing one of Riley’s teammates and how fun-loving he was – he seemed to just enjoy life and she remembered fondly how she used to enjoy life and wondered how long ago it was she stopped finding joy in life and lived to survive. Her underlying issue was trust – trusting people, trusting family and ultimately trusting God and I think when trust is missing, joy leaves as well. Fantastic book – I truly love this series. I wish I could be friends with this group of people and will be really sad when the series is over. Thankfully, I have at least one more book to read in this series so I don’t have to say goodbye yet.

I enjoyed this story, but not as well as I’ve enjoyed the rest of the stories in the series. As a reader I think I tend to enjoy books more if the characters are likable to me. (Admittedly, I think it’s almost a reader flaw I have because of all characters were the same and likable to me then the stories would get boring after awhile) But anyhow, Leah drove me absolutely nuts. I couldn’t stand her, and couldn’t really figure out how Riley did. Now Leah did have some good qualities, but her cluelessness and control obsession just annoyed me. Riley almost seemed too perfect at times with how he put up with her. The mystery was good, but I kind of figured this one out by at least half way through.
I liked how this book seemed to include more than the main two characters. There seemed to be a broader scope to the book. Sam was a fun addition to the Blackwell team. Overall I liked how the book ended, especially for Owen.
Like I’ve said it was a good book, I just struggled with Leah 🙄

Susan Sleeman continues her Cold Harbor series with Book 5 and another member of Blackwell Tactical featured. I like this team that assists with solving crimes and aiding those in need. Cold Fear could stand on its own as a complete story, but the series is best read in order as you witness the characters’ lives unfold. Here we get to know sniper Riley Glen and his former girlfriend, Leah Kent, who grew up poor but is now a singing sensation. Leah and her employees are keeping secrets, which cause turmoil in the lives of those around her as well as her own. Who is behind the murders that point to a connection with her? Could she and Riley ever reunite for good? This thrilling tale keeps an intense pace as the action and danger ramp up. I look forward to the next in this exciting series set in the Northwest. I received an advance copy from the author. All opinions are my own.

I loved this story! Riley has always been a laid-back member of the Blackwell Tactical team, but in this book he's the one taking charge of a murder investigation, so we see his intense side and get to know him very well. He's quite the awesome guy! His former girlfriend, professional singer Leah Kent, is being stalked by a man at her concerts. When she calls Riley for protection, suddenly women that Leah has a connection to are being murdered in a way that puts her as a main suspect. Riley has to not only protect Leah, he has to figure out if she's the killer or not. Throw in a major revelation that permanently affects both of their lives, a perplexing "calling card" that the elusive killer ties both of them to, and a few more unpredictable surprises, and you've got a riveting and exciting book!

I really, really enjoyed this book! First it had to do with music! Second it involved a relationship that ended years before but... Third, there is a lot in it about trusting God and fourth it was written by Susan Sleeman!

What a great addition to this series! Of course another great thing is you don't have to read it all in order. You will want to go back and read the first four though.

If you've never read a Susan Sleeman book before you are in for an amazing read... enjoy!!!

I thought books 1 and 2 were my favorite in the Cold Harbor series, but now I'm thinking that book 4 may have that distinction. There were plenty of twist and turns for Leah and Riley. Leah had some hard lessons to learn even as she was dealing with a stalker, murderer, embezzlement and revealing her own secret...that Riley is the father of her son. My favorite part was Riley and Owen's relationship. Owen found the loving father he had been longing for and Riley discovered his deep desire to be a loving father. The Blackwell tactical team creates that essential community around the story that makes you want to come back again and again for a visit. Another good book by Susan Sleeman!

Sleeman has a thing for second chance romances it would seem. Three of the four books so far have had that theme. And more in other series.

I liked Riley and Leah. This mystery was crazy and Blake was in it a lot more. Westland also get a cameo from Devon Dunbar, who is in a later series. He and Blake and Piper are all part of the Truth Seekers series.

Things ramp up quickly and we get a huge curveball right in chapter two!!! I didn’t suspect anyone or see things coming so lots of surprises.

Okay, I’m basically reading these now for the kids. Man oh man they are cute! And the adults with them… it’s just the sweetest!

Riley Glen's former girlfriends, Leah Kent, is performing nearby but she has a stalker and asks for his help. After the concert they discover a dead body. Is someone after Leah? or is she the one killing people? Then Leah has to tell Riley her secret and that will affect them both. Will they be able to figure out what is going on? Or will Leah's stalker and the killer be the one and the same person? or is there more at work here. A good story.

Left behind

We readers get to enjoy another of the team at Blackwell Tactical on a mission to protect a victim of a stalker when murders begin to happen all around their client. I love this series and the Blackwell compound and team provides such a great setting and heroes who have overcome tragedies. This story is filled with tense action, romantic suspense, surprise plot twists and just good writing! I'm hoping for a story about Blake soon:)

A good lesson in trust

When Leah started being stalked, she turned to Riley. Murders started happening. Murders of people she knows. Her life, the security she created was dissolving before her eyes. But God promised to keep and protect her. Her plans...
The lesson in this book is to turn loose and trust God. The mystery and suspense and misdirection Susan uses to teach it makes for an amazing book! I definitely recommend it!

I think this book is one of my favorites in The Cold Harbor Series. This one features Riley Glen and his former Love, Leah Kent, who is now a star in the music world. She calls Riley for help as she believes she is in danger. There is plenty of suspense and danger as her staff is being murdered and all roads seem to lead back to Leah as the murderer. I very much enjoyed this book and am enjoying this whole series.

COLD FEAR is the fifth book in this riveting series, but it easily stands alone. With a unique story line, there are very few similar books on the market. Plus the suspense is top-notch with all evidence pointing to Leah How can Riley protect her with her obvious guilt?

. There are a few twists I never saw coming and it all adds up to one five star read I couldn't put down..

Riley Glen one of the Blackwell Tactical force received a call from his one time girlfriend, recording star Leah Kent who is being stalked by a fan. A string of murders has been committed and each victim has her name tattooed on the wrist just like hers. Once a singing duo, will Riley and Leah be able to find their way back to each other or will the stalker intervene?

This was perhaps the creepiest of this series and the most convoluted. Made for great suapense.

A Very Captivating Story!!

This was such a great storyline and I’ve already fallen in love with the characters of this series and the new ones added each book. It’s full of romance, mystery, and murder. It had so many twists and turns that when I thought I had it figured out then Bam it went in another direction. Part of the ending was surprising and parts wasn’t but all in all it was a great book.

WOW! I would give this more than 5 stars if I could! Yet another exciting book in the Cold Harbor Series by Ms. Sleeman. It kept me reading into the late night hours--couldn't put it down. While I did figure out the villain halfway through, I enjoyed the suspense, clean romance and excitement with a hea. Looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

One of my favorite things about a series like this is getting to know the characters. Riley has been on the fringe of every book so it was great to read his story. As with all the books in the series the author does a great job of keeping you guessing. This one was probably the best so far at that.
