I don’t want to compare with SVSSS but I want to say how much I like this relationship more. I liked how it feels more balanced and doesn’t feel like an overload of obsession coming from the ML and Shen Zhixian is more open minded in stuff like this where the MC in SVSSS didn’t want to be with him and it felt like a one sided love from the ML. I also like how they become informal with each other and call each other by their names so Yan Jin isn’t always calling him “master” but by his name. I like it and it doesn’t always portray a master-discipline relationship but as an equal. In SVSSS however the ML always called him “Shizun” and it always felt awkward to me that they stuck with that
master- student thing

That being said the reason why I gave it 3 stars was because of the story. I think it could’ve been much better. As I kept reading it, it was getting slow but overall I enjoyed the book.

I feel pretty nostalgic reading it since I got reminded of all my other Cnovels that I have yet to finish and still feel so bad for leaving it hanging. So I decided to read some cnovels like this to give me strength to finish HoB and H2a from last year. Dunno if I got the motivation yet tho. I think it’s cuz I downloaded the epub version of it so I feel pretty intimidated seeing all the pages.

This was an easy read but it was forgettable as its plot is similar to many other books and there wasn't anything special about it. One thing that kept disrupting my reading experience was the writing itself. The author kept jumping from one scene to another and it was annoying because I would be thinking I missed a chapter or something but no, it's just the way the story was written. I also didn't really like the characters; I thought they were flat and the development of their relationship was boring.

Rebirth? Enemies to lovers? Master and disciple couple? Yes, please.

This is such a fun and light read. I really loved the connection and the relationship between the MC and the ML, whether what's shown in the surface or the actual bond between them. I've always been in love with doting and devoted lover so this is a plus for me. The plot itself is quite interesting, especially the rebirth part but nothing new and spectacular overall. There's no fixed 'big villain' as the main antagonist but more like a combination of small to mid villain sprinkled through out the story.

Still good and fun and it's also on the shorter side so it's a quick read.

BEWARE of SPOILER

The first few chapters were uncannily similar to The Scum Villain’s Self-Saving System. Shen Zhixian (MC) was transmigrated into a story and realized he was only a cannon fodder character with a bad ending. Of course the reason was simple. He abused Yan Jin, the ML and Yan Jin retaliated. So, now Shen Zhixian got to work hard to get on Yan Jin's good book.

I've read three similar books and even though the plot was good, after a while, it became boring way too fast. But, rest assure that this book have its own twist. Because the twist was kindly given away in a spoiler website, I might as well just share it here.

When Shen Zhixian was younger and on a mission, he disguised himself and somehow saved Yan Jin. He gave Yan Jin a jade pendant, which Yan Jin treasured. But, by saving Yan Jin, Shen Zhixian got injured, hence the heart disease and a black demon somehow managed to insert itself inside him, making his heart blacken. It's like two souls in one body and the demon managed to suppress Shen Zhixian's soul. So, when Yan Jin enter the sect as his disciple, Shen Zhixian (the demon) abused him.

Yan Jin grew up stronger. He took revenge towards everyone that abused him including Shen Zhixian who got it worse. When he was about to murder Shen Zhixian, the demon inside Shen Zhixian told Yan Jin that he will regret it later. Yan Jin then found out the truth, tried to revive Shen Zhixian but because of his heart disease, failed to do so. However, both of them got rebirth to the point before Shen Zhixian destroyed Yan Jin spirit root, where this book started.

I don't blame the translator because trust me, I did some translation myself. It's hard to keep the essence of a story without deviating from adding some spice into it. Some original story tend to be boring. But, if you can keep your interest up to 1/3 of the story, then it'll get better.

Sinceramente no tengo ni idea de por qué terminé esta historia. Me inclino a pensar que influyó el tenerla como leyendo en goodreads.
A decir verdad el principio es interesante y me gustó mucho el giro de qué pasó en el pasado, pero la estructura y personajes dejan mucho que desear.
A veces tenía la impresión de que me había saltado algún capítulo al saltar tan bruscamente de tema o situación. Tampoco me gustó el final, demasiado alargado para nada.
En cuanto a los personajes, los secundarios fueron divertidos incluso el prota a veces; pero por la mayor parte totalmente olvidables y clichés. Sobretodo el interés amoroso, que básicamente es un cubito de hielo con patas. La historia de amor pasada totalmente por encima.
Sirve para entretenerte un rato, pero no lo recomendaría.

It started similar with scum villain system but the storyline changed afterwards. The romance plot isn't that smooth, somehow I can't feel the chemistry between the two leads. It has a few side characters which would add flavour the story if they have more screen time. Unfortunately, most of them are mentioned in passing or events only, quite a pity. It's still an enjoyable read.

Si bien es una relación de Discípulo-maestro, está es menos dramática que SVSS, por lo que su similitud es sólo esa... Y quizá unos pequeños detalles, pero estos son los cliché de este tipo de novelas.

Ahora, si recomiendo esta novela, la verdad no. Es decir, creo que puedes vivir tu vida sin necesidad de leerla. No obstante, si te gusta este tipo de cliché, es para ti.

No es una mala novela, tampoco es que sea aburrida... Es solo que me aburrió a mi (?)

Lo que rescato de la novela es la facilidad con la que el shou asimila su amor hacia el gong, me gusta que Shen Zhixian no se haga el difícil ni tenga crisis de identidad homosexual. También me gustó que Yan Jin le diera su espacio y sea paciente para poder cocer su afecto a fuego lento sin que sea tomado como algo ofensivo.

Rating: 5/5- This is what the gist of rebirth/transmigration novels should be about it. Totally worth it if you’re looking for a simple, well told rebirth novel without too much pain.

When I started this novel, I was worried it would disappoint me like a few other novels of the same genre, but soon after the first 3-4 chapters, it just picked up and it became such a smart and beautiful story. It doesn’t have major plot twists or OP type characters. It’s a story that feels good with just the right amount of everything and that is what my review is based on. I really commend the author’s storytelling skills as well as the translator for ensuring such a well written story, comes through.

(Don’t compare it to Scum Villain, that’s my advice)
Firstly the characters are really beautiful, very wholesome and the author spent time developing them and their backstories. The plot flows brilliantly with mystery and suspense egging you onwards to turn the next page. Side characters are just as substantial and you can connect with them.

The imagery and secret realms were a big plus for me because I genuinely enjoy secret realm stories and plundering spoils as well as various cultivation types.
I loved the little side stories with the characters they encountered on their journeys. The heartbreak and pain as well as the joy and love really came through without feeling rushed, untimely or half-baked, throughout the novel.

Even though I personally love cultivation novels with emphasis on the ascension to immortal level and foundation building. This book wasn’t as heavily xianxia focused but it still drew me in. I think the mystery around the characters and the truth about what really happened in their pasts, was enough to hook me.
In a way the respectful, satisfying and wholesome relationship between the MC and ML was a highlight, only second to the well written and tied up plot. The ML as well was really great because he wasn’t the common trope, even if he had tsundere vibes now and then.

I’d love to explore some side character relationships and even read a spin-off or two. Of course, little Caoya was amazing as well. Plant spirits are my new thing!
Overall this is such a wonderful novel! I really had a great time following this story. Well paced, neither too long or short and satisfying overall. These characters are simply fantastic and the plot is truly fantastic!
Just give it a go!

A bit of a late review and I'll probably keep this short because... sadly I have forgotten most of the things that happened in the novel lol. (It's partly my fault because I have really terrible memory and I forget what I read the moment I start a new book most of the time. Which I did.)

It's Not Easy Being a Master deals with Shen Zhixian, who transmigrated into a book as the "evil" protagonist's former teacher turned enemy (because he treated his disciple terribly) just right before his death. And he was reborn along with the protagonist, who remembers what happens in his past life! Sounded really intriguing yet familiar, and I admittedly only read it because it reminded me of The Scum Villain’s Self-Saving System.

I haven't read many transmigration novels so I can't comment on how cliché the plot is, but the twists were really unexpected for me and were the main reason I kept on reading. The main characters were interesting, but the side characters were a bit lacking. There are characters who are barely introduced, particularly in the last few chapters when they fit in what felt like could be a whole arc with, like, 100 new characters into 5 chapters.

Certain plot points, particularly with the side characters, were left untouched. It's usually fine for me not to delve in too much with side characters, but when it's such a crucial point to the overall plot then at least touch on it a bit more, maybe?

It isn't the best in terms of, well, anything, but it is good for a quick read. The pacing kind of put me off and while I had no trouble distinguishing the flashbacks, they felt clunky and all over the place. It's hard to get a coherent image in my head because the descriptions weren't particularly expounded on. Sadly not much of a(n English-speaking) fanbase from what I've seen, and I'm not sure if there's any official art either.

Reread value is low and it's probably one of the novels you forget after reading a few more.

Esta es la premisa básica de varias novelas de transmigración chinas, sin embargo, aquí la historia viene adornada de más misterios que solo eso, nuestro recién llegado Shen Zhixian va a descubrir más de lo que cree y mientras intenta ganarse el favor de su discípulo Yan Jin (el protagonista) el sentimiento de respeto, desconfianza, odio y cariño se va ir entremezclando entre ambos involucrados...

La interacción de este par de maestro y discípulo es fantástica, pasamos de una relación completamente disfuncional a algo precioso e irremplazable.(Los amo).

Entrar a esta novela es introducirte en una fantasía con seres extraños, demonios, monstruos, y sobretodo, es experimentar la necesidad de querer descifrar dónde van las piezas sueltas del rompecabezas que constituyen la confusión de la vida de nuestros protagonistas, ¡Y Definitivamente sorprende!

Finalmente, quiero resaltar el trabajo de los personajes, quienes permiten que la novela sea amena, graciosa, que te deje intrigado o con dolor en tu pecho, pero, no hay de qué preocuparse, el dolor no es demasiado y el camino para conocer el final de esta historia vale la pena.

Really don't have high hopes for this one xiaxia danmei novel. But it turns out that the plot is smooth with a little heartbreak in some chapters. Less than 80 chapters! Some long and some short chapters. Only 2 reincarnation lives and a lot of explanations about the cultivation life.

The characters include likable even some demons. There are "several lessons" along the way for MC and ML. MC is a teacher who enjoys life easily but is quite responsible in teaching. Our ML who has bitter memories of the past has calm and high endurance. he is can even be polite even if he feel jealous. Some good qualities that are not shared by other ML in similar novels!
(I've read a lot of Danmei's novels to know which ML is still an asshole even though he's been hit by a karmic slap)

Every event and even other characters have a role in the story without us realizing it. This keeps the mystery and story flowing smoothly and interestingly. Good xiaxia danmei.

Sometimes I'm in the mood for a very specific trope and this book happens to hit that spot. The main character has transmigrated into a novel where he is the master of a disciple who, in their past life, killed him. He thinks he had better treat the disciple well to avoid a similar fate happening again, not realizing his disciple has also transmigrated. However, there's a larger secret hidden: the main character's true identity, and the truth behind the transmigration and the past life.

I liked the story for the unconventional tropes, such as both master and disciple reliving the past, and the secret behind the whole story. However, the book was not very well-written in other aspects. The disciple, who is the second main character, became a bit sidelined by the end, and their relationship progression seemed rushed with too many abrupt timeskips.

Overall, good for a quick read.

El amor de Yan Jin y Shen Zhixian es uno de los más tiernos, puros, consensuados y bonitos que he leído en mi vida. 🥺👌
Aquí la frase ''te bajaría la luna" es literal. Los giros dramáticos no fueron muy sorprendentes, pero sí dolorosos, aquí lo fuerte es la relación de los protagonistas y cómo solucionan las adversidades juntos.

Es una historia trágica, romántica y llena de ternura y comprensión.

A mí me gusta lo cursi, las relaciones azucaradas, así que te hagan vomitar brillantina y arcoiris, por esa razón me gustó. Para todo hay gustos, así que para mí tiene 5 estrellas. ⭐⭐⭐🌟🌟

El villano dejó un poco que desear, pero también se entiende que existe ese tipo de gente en la vida.

Está chida para pasar el rato y desear un Yan Jin en tu vida.

I finished this novel a few days ago and I really enjoyed it. The author has great thoughts and has created some interesting surprises. Although earlier it was like a novel The Scum Villain’s Self-Saving System, But you can tell the difference from the very first chapters. I fell in love with its author and read his other works and I hope it will be translated into other languages.
من این رمان رو چند روز پیش تموم کردم و واقعا ازش لذت بردم. نویسنده افکار فوق العاده ای داره و سورپرایزهای جالبی رو ایجاد کرده. با اینکه اوایلش شبیه به رمان اسکامه ولی تقریبا از همان چپترهای اول متوجه تفاوت میشین. عاشق نویسنده اش شدم و کارهای دیگرش رو خوندم و امیدوارم به زبان های دیگه هم ترجمه بشه.

sometimes i'm reading and some new information gets revealed and i'm like, what? when did this happen? when was this revealed? it was revealed just like that? so abruptly? it's like it jumps around a lot or something. i don't even know.

so you think he's a transmigrator but he's not really. he's the original body owner but his body was taken over by a demon. when ML was reborn he lost memories, as well, but once he recovers them, he's part of the reason for the MC to be reborn back into his original body.

there's definitely some plot holes but whatever.

Esta es una de esas novelas que no tengo muy claro cómo valorar. Es de las que más me ha gustado de este género de transmigración y me ha dado todo lo que buscaba, pero su ritmo es bastante desigual y tiene partes muy bonitas y otras partes que se me han hecho aburridas de leer y con las que fui perdiendo el interés.

Eso sí, la relación de los protagonistas es muy bonita y el giro de la trama ha sido increíblemente satisfactorio. No es una lectura inolvidable, pero sí de las que dejan un buen recuerdo.

I really enjoyed it at the start and it was really fun to read about how scummy both of them are while trying to deceive the other to think they are angels. I was really fond of the book until our protagonist died, I really enjoyed that part, was perfectly dramatic and it was hilarious when he came back to life. But the OG protagonist started to really annoy me as he tried to force himself and his love on him while he clearly wasn't interested. The "romance" between them is painful to read and I am pretty sure that I'll be dropping this series.

La verdad no esperaba mucho de esta novela pero aún así me decepcionó un poco :( Me gustó bastante la dinámica general entre Shen Zhixian y Yan Jin pero siento que su relación fue súper meh, la trama igual fue súper equis y todo se resolvió muy rápido. Los extras estuvieron bonitos, me hubiera gustado leer más sobre Duan Yuan y Lian Qin sinceramente… en lo poco que aparecieron amé sus interacciones y por lo menos se da a entender que eventualmente quedan juntos así que good for them<3 El último extra fue mi favorito los tqm.

A really fun rebirth story that had a pretty interesting twist on why the rebirth happened. I quite liked the arc-style storytelling, though it was a bit sad that there were so many opportunities for expanding side-stories that weren't pursued. I could have read another 20 chapters of extras if they existed. There certainly was enough material to fill another 20 chapters at least. That's probably a testament to how nicely the world was developed.

There is so much plot in this novel you'll need to take notes like you're in class. No joke.
On the downside, the characterization starts VERY intriguing but doesn't develop much. It's like the depth of the characters is hidden behind a blurry veil and every time you try to read between the lines the novel is just concerned with weaving the plot tighter and tigher. If there was more balance between plot and characterization this would have a total masterpiece.

This book was fun - really enjoyed this particular rame on the transmigration trope (the beginning resembles SVSSS but don't let it deceive you).
I am not gonns lie though, the writing style didn't mesh well with me, especially all the threads that got resolved by means of one sentence (sounding mostly like "And so like this that thing happened")
so it overall has balanced itself out to make a book that was nice but didn't wow me

pros: honestly just a really easy and nice but still qualitative read, great mc and love interest and nice dynamic, love interest doesn’t forgive mc directly + both of them don’t have full memory at first, back story was a nice touch too, side characters like duan yuan were nice too

I liked the ending, and I think the story was wrapped up well. There were a few plot holes, however, and sometimes scenes or goals weren’t clear. The side characters were intriguing, mostly funny. I also love how the main character doesn’t care about his sexuality—if he loves someone, he loves them. His obliviousness did frustrate me from time to time, but it wasn’t a huge deal. His intelligence made the story much more tolerable.

at first, i really thought that was going to be another svsss, as the chapters were passing the characters just enchanted me and i ended it being so in love with both of mc and ml, their relationship is something i really really liked at all, and theres a plot twist that made everything more special!!! The romance between the leads was cute but it needed more time to develop and I wanted to see more affection between them.
The plot in the first half of the book was good, but afterwards it became too confusing and went down hill from there.

I really liked this one tbh. But it was 2 months ago I last read this and when I try to continue I am just confused because I don’t remember what is happening. I would like to give this a second try when I’m in the mood for it. :)
