I good story with flaws (imo).
I've read the 3 books in this series. I really enjoyed the storyline and the characters for the most part. The issues I have deal with length and time period. This series is a 1 book read, not 3. It seems to be a thing now that authors do. They shorten the book by making the reader read 3 instead of one. Maybe they make more money this way but it's not cool to have a book under 200 pages and charge regular price. The 2 major plot points that I didn't care for was (spoiler alert) Nola and Archer got together during the Homecoming dance in August and the book one ends. Then she started book 2 5/6 months later in Feb close to the Winter Formal. Why? We missed seeing the relationship unfold and the chance to get to know the characters better in order to root for them as they grow. The whole first book was told in 1 months time and boom book 2 starts much later. Why did McKayla feel the need to skip the beginning of their actual relationship? We really didn't get to read how they fell in love and why. The next issue I had was when they broke up a week later at the winter formal ending book 2. Then once again book 3 starts 3 months later in time for Prom. We didn't get to see her deal with the problems of losing her boyfriend and friends over a stupid 'lie' that wasn't really a lie but it should have taught her to fess up to the fact her mother had a sexual relationship with a teen age boy then caused his death by drunk driving and was serving a 15 year sentence. Well, no shit she didn't tell anyone. Who would? It didn't only affect her but her grandpatents as well. They lived in that town for years, did they want anyone to know how their daughter turned out? No, of course not. Nowadays moving and moving in with grandparents is not that big of deal as Reece made it out to be. The dad thing was kind of bs. It's so common today the kids have no idea who their dad is, which is sad but a fact. No one in today's world would have cared or been hurt because she kept that tidbit to herself. I've lived it and know this for a fact. The mom issue was way bigger and yes I personally would not have been willing to let that fact out of the bag especially knowing it would affect my grandparents lives as well. The ending bothered me too. We didn't get to see how the situation with Heath ended and how it affected their dad. We could have spent much more time reading about these relationships than the time spent on Nola's so called lies. I would have loved the author to dig in deeper. Then Nola and Archer get back together at Prom and boom again the book ends. We didn't really get to read much about their relationship as we did with them being broken up. I wanted more of that I guess.
Anyway, I'm glad I read them. although it didn't take much time. I liked the covers of the books. She actually looks like a high schooler unlike a lot of covers. I like to visualize what the characters look like, so that to me was good.
