My first thoughts on Jacob. Major a******. He steam rolls right over Laurel. He is the king of his world and anyone in his orbit is beneath him. Not the best first impression I got for him.
Laurel is struggling. As strong as she tries to be for her son Riley she is still a woman afraid of shadows. She doesn’t stand up enough to Jacob and that’s mostly due to her attraction to him not her past.
There was a moment where Jacob lost his temper epically on Laurel and he never apologized and that frustrated me that Laurel didn’t stick to her guns on that.
Their chemistry is hot. They delve some what into Jacob’s past but Laurel does multiple moves to steer them away from her past. I did feel that Jacob did a complete 180 overnight in regards to how he handled Laurel. I was glad to see him treat her better.
I would suggest you read Silas and Evangeline’s book before you read this one. Not that it’s required but it may help with some background. I’m definitely interested to see how what has happened in these first 2 books play into the next one.

Laurel is a single mom in town, as she's running from her husband, so no one knows here where she lands. Jacob is a brutal gangster who is out for revenge after he trusted the wrong person which bit him in the behind when one of his crew is killed. He sees Laurel from the jump, and at first, he seems like a stalker, but then things take a turn. I'm not his biggest fan as he pulled some things that I didn't get over since they enraged me so much. And those things were done to Laurel, who has been living in terror for some time, so she seems to let him get away with stuff she shouldn't have to be honest, or at least, make him suffer for a bit longer than she did. Now, this story is filled with twists & turns because of who Jacob is, and Laurel being on the lamb, so it had me dropping a lot of f-bombs. So, will Laurel's past find her?! You'll have to hit those one click buttons to find out! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

I was really enjoying myself while reading about Jacob and Laurel. Their relationship was explosive. It was fun reading how much Laurel was fighting her attraction towards Jacob. With everything that has happened to her it was only normal she didn't want anything to do with any man.
And that is why I loved Jacob; he might be a gangster but he had a soft spot for her and would stop at nothing to keep her and her son safe.
Once again I've chosen a new to me author and I'm loving my choice. Can't wait to read next installment in this series.

This was an interesting story, though I felt it was a bit too long. I loved the strength that Laurel showed in getting out of her situation. The fact that she would do anything to protect her son was admirable. Jacob was an alpha-hole, but he did everything he could to protect his people, family, and friends. The heat between Laurel and Jacob was definitely steamy. They balanced each other in order for them to heal.

Jacob Cole is one hot mf, all dark and brooding with a whole lot of attitude a crime lord in charge of the Black Ravens. Lauren is running from her previous life, she is beautiful, strong and brave but doesn’t know it because of all the abused she suffered in the past.
Lauren ends up in Raven Island with her four year old son trying to start a new life when Jacob sees her he has to have her but she doesn’t go so easy and he likes the chase so you know there is a lot of back and forth and it makes things a lot more fun.
Had a blast reading this book, the plot was good it’s a really interesting one and the characters are very well written.

This is the 2nd book in this series, and this is a new author to me, but I will certainly be looking out for her work in the future. Jacob is a tough and notorious gangster who is fuelled by revenge. Laurel is a single mom who is new in town, and she is on the run from an abusive husband, and she is in Jacob’s sights. When Laurel’s past comes back to haunt her will Jacob be able to protect her? This is a good story which does contain triggers for some readers, so just be aware. I struggled to engage with Jacob and the way in which he treated Laurel to start with. However, I look forward to reading more of this authors’ work.

Wow. Mercer Scott has written a stunning second novel in the Raven Island series. The attention to detail, depth of characters and engaging g storyline had me hooked. Jacob is a bad guy I can’t help but like!

This was a classic battered wife flees her cop husband with her child to start a new life in hiding story, but with a twist. When starting her new life, she meets and has an intense connection with the head of a criminal organization. I really enjoyed the back and forth between these two characters and the struggle you see each of them deal with relating to their attraction for each other. However this book was unnecessarily dragged out with the exact same filler in every single chapter that made an otherwise good story a little painful to read. 4/5
