Constantine Ross is a cocky, provoking little...𝑦𝑒𝑎ℎ.
And I swear, I’d think that even if his family’s business wasn’t my biggest competition.
It’s time someone taught the man a lesson or two about life.
At least that’s what I tell myself when I offer him a job.
Call it my good deed for the year… maybe the century.

But now he’s in my shop.
In my space.
In my every damn thought.
In. My. Bed.

And how the hell am I supposed to resist him?

𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗲
I’ll be the first to admit I’ve royally screwed up, but what can I say?
I was a stupid teen who lost his dad and spiraled out of control.
Almost a decade later, I’m still trying to make amends.
The last thing I need is my family’s arch-nemesis wading into my life like he’s got all the answers.
Except… I really need money, and the arrogant jerk offered me a job.

I can deal with Micah’s attitude.
My attraction to him? That’s different.
He’s my boss, not my boyfriend.
And he’s way too old for me.
But 𝘎𝘰𝘥, he’s gorgeous.
Dominant.
Compelling.

I don’t 𝘸𝘢𝘯𝘵 to want him…
But I can’t turn away.

I would have liked The Secret more had it not overlapped with other books in this series, particularly The Note, which I didn't love. Overlapping stories put a burden on the reader to remember events from books they read months prior.

I did like the enemies-to-lovers romance, the age gap, and the MCs. For whatever reason, the story dragged for me a little, especially at the beginning, but it finished off strong with a wonderful HEA.

Have I told you how much I dislike books that take place in the past or during books I’ve already read? No? I DISLIKE BOOKS THAT TAKE PLACE IN THE PAST OR DURING BOOKS I’VE ALREADY READ. I’ll tell you, when I read this at the beginning of the book I probably groaned out loud:

Timeline Note

The Secret begins in June, months before the events of The Fall and The Gift.

For those who have read those books, as well as The Date, I hope you enjoy getting a glimpse of those stories from a different point of view!

For those who haven't, no worries! Each book is a standalone.

I did not enjoy it that much. And these books are not standalones.

Seriously. I feel like I spend the entire read trying to remember how it happened from the other book I read that took place while this one was taking place. And this, well, this takes place during more than one book! Even worse for this one was that the Valentine’s Day shorty just happened and was fresh in my head and well, I couldn’t wait to see how that part of the whole thing played out. So, instead of having a fun time reading I kept waiting and waiting and waiting because what happened in The Note was bad.

Ugh.

So yeah, that set a pretty bad precedent for this book from the gate. But, unfortunately, that isn’t it. Even worse than timing I can’t stand secret relationships. And yeah, I know the title and blurb told me what was what, but, I like O’Leary and wanted to read the next book and I thought I’d be ok but two strikes…Secret relationships never end well and I know that is the rub, the hook. But, I don’t like it.

So again, I really like O’Leary and I will keep going but this book just weighed me down the entire read. I couldn’t stop trying to place this and that and I couldn’t stop worrying about this blowing up in someone’s face.

My preference. The book was probably a win for most. It had a lot going on aside from just the secret. Con was kind of messed up and Micah was kind of uber focused and not really living. They worked. I ended up really loving them both when I could forget this wasn’t going to end well before it ended well.

This was just not my kind of literary trope.

This was somewhere between 3.5 and 4 stars for me, but I'm rounding it up because it was fun, sweet and well-written.

I liked both MCs and most of the side characters, especially Micah's sisters.
The one character I didn't like was Con's controlling mother. She annoyed me throughout the whole book.

I haven't read any of the previous books, only the blurbs, and I had no problem following the characters.

“I have it on tape—watched it like four hundred times when I was a teenager. You can borrow it.”

“I can borrow… the tape?” He bit his lip and his eyes danced. “Like, an actual tape that you need to rewind? If I wave it near my laptop, will it sync?”

I sighed. Like I needed a further reminder of the difference in our ages. “Never mind, millennial.”

OMG OMG OMG. So, I love May Archer. I love her books. I've been gagging for Con's book, and holy guacamole, I was not only blown away, Con lived up to every single expectation I had of him and more.

I also fell for the older, cranky Micah. Hard. And fast.

LOOOOOOVED IT.

I freaking loved this, it was my favorite in the series so far. From beginning to end I loved reading every page of this and was sucked in from the first page.

So, it turns out fo the previous two books, Constantine had been secretly dating Micah Bloom and of course we were none the wiser, and we get their story in this book and the how and why of it all.

Micah has a rival flower business to Constantine's mother's Ross Flowers and Landscaping business, and seeing as how when he's not part timing as a cop in O'Leary he's working for his mother for free, as she has been tough go of it financially for years, and Constantine feels that it is all his fault - it isn't - because of a teenage mistake he'd made.

He and Micah seeming don't like each other at first - that doesn't last long at all - but it's because they just don't know each other and have made assumptions, as people do. But they get under each other's skin like no one else.

Con is 24, and Micah is 40, but that is barely an issue in this book - which, I loved that it wasn't made into a big deal. They're both adults, so who cares if there's a sixteen year age difference? - although it does kinda play into why they keep a secret, it's not nearly the biggest issue.

It's funny that Constant started his romance with Micah before any of the other couples - except Ash and Cal in the .5 book - but this is the third book in the series. Their reason for not sharing at first is because Micah is Con's mother's rival and she would be pissed about it, but I think the real reason was that they were both scared, especially Constantine.

Con hides behind humor and deflections, pretending that everything is fine when it isn't. He thinks he's a positive person, but it's more than he pushes aside and buries all the negative shit he deals with and never deals with them head on. That's not actually being positive, and it takes Micah for Con to see that.

I loved these two together, they were electric from the first interaction. They had amazing chemistry and when they got into the more romantic side of things I felt their love too. Constantine was made out to be a player in the pervious books, not much one for commitment, and happy to fuck 'em and leave 'em - but actually the whole time there were other romances is going in the previous two books, Constantine was in a serious relationship - even if he couldn't admit it to himself for months - and a committed one at that, and was falling in love. They sure hid it well for a long time, although Constant meets Micah's family - where they live out of town, of course - months before their relationship is known to the town.

There is some drama at the end, but it made sense and didn't felt manufactured and it was resolved in a reasonable - and fairly quick - manner. I think also that the fact that there wasn't a mystery on this like in the previous two also really helped this one. I didn't mind the mysteries at all, they didn't detract from the stories in my opinion, but they also didn't entirely add all that much either. I know the mysteries got tied to the couples in some way and whatnot, but still. They weren't exactly needed overall, so I'm glad this book didn't have one of it's own either.

Great story, amazing couple with amazing chemistry, a great love story and a definite win for me in this series. Two massive thumbs up from me!

As much as I liked the MCs and thought they were a good couple, I didn't really enjoy the plot of this one with the secret relationship and the business shenanigans. I could see the drama coming from a mile away and it did not disappoint - or, rather, it did disappoint, because I really dislike drama.

Mostly though, Constantine’s overbearing mother drove me up the wall. I did not buy her apology or her change of heart re: their relationship and in his position I wouldn't have been so quick to offer forgiveness.

I would rate this lower, but I was really enamoured with them as a couple. I loved the banter they had, even though some of it was cringey I thought it was perfectly in-character. I thought their sexual chemistry was good, liked the domesticity they settled into, and appreciated the moments of honesty between them.

This had potential. I won't be reading the rest of this series, but I had a real success by May Archer with Off Plan which actually features one of this book's MC's brothers (I didn't twig this until about 90%, gosh I can be dense) so I'm definitely not writing off the author yet.

This. Was. Absolutely. Adorable. ❤️

What can I say? I love small town romances. But tbh I rarely rate them with 5 stars, because they tend to be a bit cliché (in a heartwarming way).

But this one here? It was as close to perfect as small town romances can be. It’s the story of Constantine Ross, Julian‘s brother (from the previous book). Constantine, who’s charming, but has the reputation of being flighty. Who works as a part time cop, and in the rest of his for the family business (a flower shop). And who can’t help but provoke their only competitor in town, Micah Bloom (who owns Micah’s Blooms 🤣).

But I digress. As different as the two men are (Micah is 16 years older, and far too serious for his own good) - together, they made me smile the entire time while reading it.
The banter, guys. THE BANTER!.
And the chemistry they shared.
And the smexy parts 🔥🔥🔥

Suffice to say, it’s a perfect age gap/grumpy/sunshine story, and I really liked that this time we didn’t get some kind of crime plot to worry about and could focus on Micah and Con and the relationship between them.

And when they realise they’re in love?

”My mind vomited the word love into my consciousness before it blue-screened completely and panic took over.”

- if you couldn’t smile while reading this, then this book isn’t for you. But if you DID and you need a pick-me-up - go for it, you won’t regret it.

Technically, you can read it without having read the previous books, but you fully love it, it’s probably better to know the books before this one, at least the one about Julian and Daniel.

Thank you Snjez for the rec! I really really liked this one. It was my first read in this series and I was able to follow just fine, it didn't make me want to read the others though, is that weird? Not sure. Anyway, I really liked the relationship development, they really get to know each other and their feelings develop slowly. It wasn't that OTT which I really appreciated coming from this author. I liked that Constantine learned to stand up for himself slowly and to forgive himself for something that was BAD but didn't make him a bad person, does that make sense? Micah also needed to learn to live for himself more. The book is more Constantine journey than Micah's to be fair. I really liked their dynamics, their banter was fun. I'm knocking one star because of the ridiculous kerfuffle at the end. The resolution was good but it really wasn't needed or deserved.

“This mouth,” he whispered. “This mouth is indecent. The shit you say to me, Constantine. The way you tease. I’ve wanted to slap this mouth. I’ve wanted to kiss this mouth.”

May Archer can sometimes push my quirky town and insta-love limits. I was up and down with this series too. But I sure do love this one and the one after it. And since I’m not having much luck with new books lately, I decided a reread was in order. And oh man, I still adore Constantine and Micah. 🥰

I'm still visiting the town of O'Leary and this was the best one yet! (I also really liked, The Note.)

*Could be read by itself but would be better if read in series order. Overlaps with books 1, 2 and 2.5. I'm starting to think of the O'Leary world as one of those choose your own adventure books. Only sexy. All the books intersect so much. I find that I both like and dislike this. On one hand, I'll be reading one of the books and be curious about something going on with a side character. Then when I get to his book, I'll find out what was happening and get a different perspective. On the other hand, I have to read about the same events again and again and I start feeling like I'm in the movie Groundhogs Day but with hot guys instead of Bill Murray.

So Constantine.

I've been wanting his book as much as Jamie and Parker's book which I'll be starting next. I predict a weekend of accomplishing nothing in my future. It did not disappoint! It had a minor enemies to lovers thing going on. Con and Micah weren't exactly enemies level. But there was some dislike based on assumptions they made about each other. There was an age gap done right. The relationship development felt natural and the banter was funny. And it was the hottest book of the series so far. Con and Micah sizzled together!

Bring on the next book!

Best one yet in this delightful series

Without any doubt this is my favourite one in the series so far. I absolutely adored the banter between Constantine and Micah.

It's odd reading the third book in a series when you've already seen some of the events from a different perspective as each of them takes place around the same time.

Watching Con and Micah fall in love is a rollercoaster ride through lots of laughter, a little bit of angst and some seriously sexy times.

I love this setting and the many and varied characters who live here and can't wait for more.

I’m quite enthralled with the love stories in O’Leary and this enemies to lovers tale is an excellent addition. Constantine is Julian’s 25-ish brother (The Gift) and he’s spent years trying to live down a foolish prank committed at 15. Small town memories and a controlling, albeit well-meaning, mother have him using his jokester image to hide his anger at being in a rut he can’t break free of. Micah has spent his 40 years overcompensating for his and his sisters unconventional, precarious childhood. He’s resentful of Constantine’s supposedly carefree attitude until he catches a glimpse behind his defenses. The guys are great characters and depicted realistically, the age-gap never really an issue between them, except it makes boss/employee role-play seriously hot. Their disparate life experiences do ultimately cause a clash. They’re forced to keep their relationship from Con’s mother because of the rivalry between their businesses. As in the previous books, the eventual crisis arises from keeping secrets and non-communication but the reasons feel realistic and meaningful. The sense of community, family and friendship in O’Leary is displayed nicely without reaching overbearing levels and secondary characters are likable. I’m not sure if there will be more stories set in this world but I wouldn’t mind reading more!

I started off kinda hating this one - basically the first 3rd. Micah came off like a judgemental, condescending prick, Constantine's mom still treated him like he's 14, and Constantine, understandably, had little confidence, hid behind humor and allowed himself to be a bit of a doormat.

After that, however, I warmed to Micah as he chilled out a lot and was man enough to admit he had been very wrong in his assumptions about Constantine. And Constantine gained enough confidence to go for what he wanted in life. Nothing is ever easy and things often don't go as planned, though, so that was some fun relationship angst.

The overlap with the timeline of the other books was a bit weird, too. Sometimes that can work for me, but here I had some trouble, because it felt repetitive.

I did like the story, though...but the epilogue was super cheesy.

Cute enough, but nothing new.

Enemies to lovers
Age gap
Boss-employee
Small town

Great audiobook

But despite that, I was a little bored. And I was really, really annoyed by the mother for 91% of the book.

My rec? Perfect if you don’t want to devote a lot of attention to the book.

This is Micah's story. He's Mason's brother from the Whispering Key series and this book should absolutely be read before diving into Mason's story.

🟢 Age gap, 16 years

🟡 Small town

🟣 "Kinda enemies"-friends-lovers

🔵 A lot of romance, a bit of spice

⚪ Good banter

The town is O'Leary and Micah is a 40 year old successful florist, a new resident in this town. He's gay, lives alone, is a serial monogamist and has a family of one brother and two sisters. He's a tall (almost) silver fox with green eyes.

His biggest competitor in town is Ross Landscaping, a family company where Constantine Luciano works, a 24 year old town jokester, a former bad boy who's had some bad luck in his teen years, so noone takes him quite seriously. He's tall, dark, charming, talkative, goes out a lot, has a lot of hook-ups and is especially feisty towards Micah at the weekly farmer's market, where they both sell flowers.

Because Constantine, who works for his family for free, needs money, he goes to work for Micah in secret . As they get to know each other, they become friends and eventually lovers . They fall in love and when the word gets out, surprisingly they gain a lot of support from the community. There's a little plot twist at the end, a bit of a misunderstanding, but it's nothing major and gets resolved fast.

I really liked this small town romance and as such stories usually go, it's sappy, it's cute, there's a sugarry happy ending and the angst is still lost in the woods surrounding O'Leary.😄

I really wanted to read Micah's story, because I read the Whispering Key series and I'll go back and re-read parts with Micah and Con. They're a great age-gap couple, I think the trope was wonderfully applied here. I'm usually sceptical when there are such big age differences in books, but in this case it was charming and really well executed . Micah wasn't dominant or overly caring, he was just right and I loved how they were being silly together.

🔴 I absolutely would have loved to read more spice. The spice is there and it's really well done. I'll always miss the kissing parts explained in more detail, but that's just me, I love that.

🟠 There's a recurring theme in all the books I've read so far from this author and it's the part where the first intimate contact finally happens but a major thing gets left out (like a first kiss) or they finally get together and the events after the act, that would cement the relationship, get left out and the story is skipped forward or we're just told later what happened.

And it's the same thing with this book. Micah and Con finally seriously get together and have amazing sex and then...one month later. 🙄 One month later.
I wanna know what happened when they woke up the next day? When they went to work. How did Con spending every night at Micah's go, what did they talk about? When they slept together, how did they wake up? Where did they go over the weekends?

I did however like the fact that this story happened in the course of more that 6 months, which is rare, I think, it was really believable.

Well written, great ideas, great characters, wonderful development, cherry on top is missing with the intimate moments, but in general a solid plot and a feel-good romance.

Will I be reading the next book?
I definitely am interested in the characters presented in this book, but I think if I read another story where i'm really invested and get to 50% and the transition to being lovers doesn't go with much detail needed, I think I'm going to stop.

🌅 Just wondering... 🌅

Do Micah and Con ever open their landscaping branch in Whispering Key? I thought this was something I'd be reading about in that Unicorn novel.

I think I like Constantine a little more than I like Micah, but possibly only because I want to be on Con's side in a fight against his mother. Or anyone else for that matter. I wanted to cry for poor Con so many times while reading this since he really doesn't let himself feel sorry for all the crap he's still trying to make up for, nine years later. Excellent ending, and I'm excited to read what else happens in the next books to fill in the space between the last chapter and the epilogue!

“Like, being someone’s priority. Knowing you’re the most important thing and they care for your happiness as much as their own, but that’s okay because you care for their happiness as much as your own, so it all evens out.”

Mason’s green eyes widened. “Oh my God.”

“What?”

“You! You just explained to me what love is. In multiple sentences. Of fucking… flowery prose.”

I have been waiting to get to Micah and Con's story since reading Off Plan. I already knew that they ended up together and got married and blah blah blah because HEA's and all that stuff.

But I didn't know the how! And I didn't know there was a delicious, lovely age gap. My favorite!

This was one of the best ones. Micah Bloom loves flowers. Constantine Ross loves landscape design. You'd think that this was a match made in heaven? Maybe. But not in the beginning. Not when Constantine loves to push every button Micah Bloom has and then find the ones he hides. And Micah wants to want to hate Con. But he can't. Because he wants to want him.

These two completely set my heart on fire and I loved the angst I felt as they continued to try and hide their feelings from Angela and each other. And the ending, with Tyler's step-sister's wedding, guh. Remember when I said in a previous review that Con came to the rescue? Well, he did. Kind of. But he had help. A lot of it.

Valentine's Day is a pretty magical time in little O'Leary.

I also loved that this was one of the first stories where the two men were engaged in the end. If I thought my heart couldn't get fuller, I was wrong.

[I received a digital arc for an honest review]

The Secret is the newest addition to May Archer's A Love in O'Leary series. If you have read any of them before, this books leading men made appearances through, so you are probably familiar with them. If you haven't and are new to this series no worries, they are each a standalone, but I guarantee once you read one you'll want to read them all!

Micah recently moved to the little town of O'Leary to grow his florist business but that's proving to be difficult when everyone has been buying from the same florists since forever. His biggest and only competition sits across from him at the farmers market ever Saturday, and it doesn't help his mood that the charming man running the booth is always pushing his buttons.

Constantine comes off as carefree, childish and dramatic. His motto is to focus on the good and ignore the negative things in his life. This causes people to not take him serious, yet he works his butt off working multiple jobs for little pay. The town still sees him as the angry teenager who made mistake after mistake, and he doesn't bother to correct them.

When Micah and Constantine find themselves working together, they have to remind themselves that this is business only. The attraction and sexual tension between them grows the more they get to know each other, and they find it hard to deny their feelings. However, the lack of communication and the inability to open up might ruin them before they even begin.

"He kissed me the way he'd touched me, the way he'd looked at me, demanding and pissed off and searching for something I wasn't sure how to provide"

The Secret was the perfect story for Constantine and Micah. It was filled with inner struggles, emotion, and self growth. Constantine was lovable, goofy and absolutely adorable. It was sad that he didn't see himself the way Micah saw him. Mature and responsible Micah who fought his attraction toward Constantine and only wanted the best for him. Even with the age gap between them, their opposite personalities complimented each other. The sexual chemistry between them was hot, with their role-play and teasing in the bedroom. The story itself was almost perfect to me, except I was a little disappointed in the final conflict but it all wrapped up beautifully. From beginning to end I was invested in their happy and I rooted for them to figure their sh*t out.

Overall, The Secret was a fantastic MM, age gap, small town romance. If any of those sub genres appeal to you than I definitely recommend give this book a chance. May Archer's writing is fun, steamy, and she makes you feel a part of the little town of O'Leary.

"He'd razed me to my foundations and built me back up again all at the same time."

20190317_201813

"He kissed me. No games, no hesitation, no questions. Just his lips on mine, his fingers wrapping around the back of my neck, and the tiny, needy moan coming from the back of my throat."

I loved May Archer's books before this, but this one turned me into a rabid fan. This book hit every single note for me and I felt like her writing has never been sharper. I will one-click anything she publishes from now on - no questions asked.

In this third installment, Ms. Archer gives us Constantine and Micah, an enemies-to-secret lovers, May/December romance. Con is gorgeous, young, and snarky and he provides incredible humor and sass throughout the book. He seems to be the funny, carefree brother...but is he really? Micah is a jaded curmudgeon with the world's biggest heart. Even though he moved to O'Leary with a plan - and Con and his family are the major obstacle in the way - he isn't immune to Con's antics. The chemistry between these two characters is some of the best I've read - period. From the scathing, but hilarious, insults that morph into sexy repartee, to the unexpectedly sweet moments that transform into five alarm fire territory, this book had me on my toes. There was just something about Micah and Con that will put them at the top of my favorite couples list.

What I love about the O'Leary books is how the storylines of each installment are intricately intertwined, yet they can all be read as standalones. Throughout each book there are easter eggs that reveal significant information that will be important later. I love this attention to detail and it made this book, that centered around Con and Micah's secret, so appealing.

Enemies to lovers tale of Constantine and Micah !
On the cover, misunderstood Constantine Ross, 24,

with a big smile, blue eyes and scruff, is a landscaper in the family's struggling business. His transmission gave out, so, he was late for the Farmer's Market booth. His Mom berated him, which she always does, and Constantine also works part time at the police department. He had a troubled youth after his Dad died.
Micah, 40, green eyes and brown hair

with gray peeping through, owns a flower shop, and he's the competition in the small area.

We get lots of snark, wit, and sass, plus lively banter, with accompanying deep conversation. The men are attracted, but the family obligations for Constantine prohibit being friendly with the enemy.
But, beyond that, the men make a work deal, and keep their arrangement under wraps.
We watch month by month in this tale, watching a slow growth of enemies to lovers. Hot sexiness, is raw, dirty, and full of pleasing action.

We discover secrets and pasts that matter. "Con" wants to be happy and loved. Micah finds what he's been missing in his life.

I loved the flow, romance, the meaningful messages, and this story holds our curiosity all the way!
Wonderful epilogue a year later.
ENJOY !

I’ve really enjoyed these O’Leary books. Especially since I’ve listened to the audiobooks. Iggy Toma and Alexander Cendese are both great narrators and bring these crazy characters to life. I finally got over my dislike of the Ross brother’s mother, but it took almost the entire book.

I loved how the last two stories were mixed together in this book. Although it could be read as a stand alone, I highly recommend reading them in order.

It was great to revisit the town of O’Leary. Con and Micah are competitors in the flower business, and they can’t stand each other. They think they know the other person, though, and they clearly have many preconceived notions that aren’t real. When they finally start to get more familiar and comfortable, they decide not to shut it down. They had really great chemistry together. It was awesome revisiting the other couples from town, and I loved reading this. This is a great series.
