Mourning Thrax’s death, Ankhesenamun tries to find peace again. But as she resumes her normal life, her world is upended by another death — this time, that of Pharaoh Tutankhamun.

As Ankhesenamun tries to keep control of her throne and her country, the chief advisors tighten their own hold on power. Stripped of all authority and confined to her chambers, Ankhesenamun finally does the unthinkable — she sends a message to the Hittite king offering the throne to one of his sons.

But before the Hittite prince can arrive, the chief advisors find out. Ankhesenamun needs a way to control the advisors and reclaim her position before someone else takes her place on the throne. Because the advisors only need one daughter of Akhenaten alive…

Blending history and fantasy, The Amarna Age series is set in 18th Dynasty Egypt where the old gods have been worshipped for thousands of years and magic is a matter of belief. For readers of dark fantasy who enjoy an historical setting.

5 Things You Didn’t Know About Kylie Quillinan

1. I studied Ancient Greek at university because I wanted to read Homer in his own language.
2. I’m fascinated by miniatures and tiny things, and am building my own dollhouse.
3. I studied to be a journalist because I thought that would provide a more reliable income than writing. I hated it because I wasn’t telling my own stories, only repeating what somebody else had already said.
4. If I wasn’t a writer, I would have been a marine biologist except that I get very, very sea sick. I’m also claustrophobic under water so that was never going to work out.
5. I never ever look into a mirror in a dark room.

Not much better than the first book, but enjoyable enough to keep reading the series.

Author is taking a lot of creative liberties here for the sake of drama.

Kylie Quillinan continues the story of Ankesenamun. Her lover Thrax is dead by her hand and she is devastated. Then her husband and brother Tut is wounded and dies. Ankesenamun is desperate. Ay who she despises grabs the throne. But she has already done something unthinkable to ensure her father's line. The queen pays a great price as punishment. Son of the Hittites leaves you on a cliff hanger. This is an easy read but fascinating.
