DeSoto, New Mexico is about to acquire two new Wayne, a teenager fleeing Texas’s foster care system, is headed north from El Paso, and Perry, leaving behind a failed marriage and a law office in Montana, is headed south to claim properties willed to him by his grandparents. Though neither recognizes it at the moment, Wayne wants a father, Perry wants a son. But, will they meet and overcome the challenges facing a corrupt sheriff, complex foster care laws, demands of reconstructing aged buildings, and the usual misunderstandings between a teenager and an adult. Helping Wayne in his wanderings are a medicine bag and a spirit wolf gifted him by a mysterious Indian shaman; helping Perry are his memories of his grandparents and their surprising legacy.
