“He wants to keep you close so you don’t rise up against him. And he wants to end Gladwell Academy. This is the only shifter school that has ever had its own Seer, Remi. That has allowed us to maintain a certain level of independence all these years.”

Following the adoption, Remi and Belhollow bond during their vacation in the Outer Banks in North Carolina. While Remi finally begins to feels a sense of belonging, Belhollow revels in motherhood. Life seems perfect but for the strange nightmares that plague Remi’s sleep.

When Laith and Dean Mardone fail to arrive on their flight from India, Remi fears the worst. Her sense of foreboding goes into overdrive, however, when they return to Therian Hall to find the Academy on lockdown and non other than Declan Helm himself, awaiting their arrival. In a tense stand-off between Declan and Belhollow, shocking revelations come to light regarding Belhollow’s past which threatens the fragile emotional bond between mother and daughter.

Lost Alumni is the fourth instalment of the compelling Academy of Shifters series. Once again the author stepped up her game in what was a tense, edge of your seat instalment. Although little progress was made plot wise, this instalment is crucial in that we meet the nefarious Declan Helms and are given insight into Belhollow’s past. After the jaw dropping revelations of the previous book, I didn’t expect the author to still have so shocks up her sleeve.

The author has deftly managed to push everyone of my reading buttons with her outstanding character development and this book was no exception. The author really ramped up the emotional level which had me agonising over the threat to Remi’s new found happiness with Belhollow. Declan Helms is a particularly nasty villain and the scenes between him and Belhollow positively crackled with tension. Thankfully Winter and Hickoree provided a few light relief moments when the book threatened to become too dark.

All in all this was a well executed, suspenseful addition to the series, powered by adept character development and relentless pacing. The whopping cliffhanger at the end has ensured that this reader will be eagerly anticipating the follow up.

Book 4 has quite a bit of action. There is actually a real villain again, for the first time since the beginning. I was disappointed to not have any romance. I’m really looking forward to answers there. But it was nice to see Remi’s whole pack again, however briefly.

I hate to say it, but Remi really drove me up a wall here. She gets a parent and suddenly turns into a whining, sniveling toddler. I was glad she got answers while in the hospital, but that scene was way too annoying for way too long. And Remi really needs to work on her deduction skills. She wants answers, yet she eliminates possibilities and jumps to conclusions. Everything about her in this book was just frustrating.

Book 5 is next. I’m dying to know what’s going on with Laith. Hopefully it won’t be dragged out for too long.

I really enjoy at the beginning but as I’m getting to book 3 and 4, I’m starting to dislike the main characters. I’m glad that her friend give her a piece of mind. She’s so contradicting. Hated bully yet she bullies people. Things don’t go her way she’s piss. She wants to find out answers but when she was going to get the answer, she doesn’t want to hear it. I thought as she gets older, she would be more confident but I don’t see it. All I see is self loathing and doubts and always assume. She wants ppl to be honest with her yet she’s lying to everyone. So like I said this is a great read but for some reason I feel like I lost interest in the heroine. I’m not sure if I want to continue reading this series.

Better then the last but frustrating

This book was better then the last one with decent pacing and actually some events happening and *finally* some answers given.

That said, the lack of answered and the *overwhelming* constant betrayal is really frustrating to read in many ways. Its gotten to the point where as the reader I cant even like.anyone because it feels like they'll jsut be next up to betray Remi. And poor Remi at this point is waaaay to forgiving. Id be running for the hills at this point.

I'll read the next one because I need more answers but erg. Frustration and not in a good way.

This newest addition to the series was quite an experience in adventure, mystery and emotions. Remi meets her brother again, learns some surprising secrets and has to make some difficult decisions. The narrator did a wonderful job bringing the story to life as told from the perspective of Remi. She had unique voices for each character so you could easily follow the story. What will Remi decide to do about the latest discovery? Read /listen to the next book to find out!

Oh here we go again! Another bombshell at the end. So loving this. I sort of figured this one out just prior but I really had to read the reveal. Truly appreciating this authors skill at planning just what hidden thing would be each books hook. On to book 5. All my reviews are always voluntarily written.

Remi now has a mom, Laith and Dean Mardone are missing and a lot of revelations are made. Despite not adding much to the primary plot in this book we get to know a lot about the past and we meet some important characters. When the audiobook finished I didn't want to believe. I just wanted the next one because... cliffhanger! Can't wait :D

This addition to the series did not hold my attention as much as the others in the series. The book could have done with some more positives.

I like reading this series because it is a little different from other supernatural books. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 only because the dialogue between Remi and Belhollow sometimes seems a little forced and overly perky, which detracted from my reading experience. Other than that, I loved the book - the story, the drama, the action, and where it's going! Cannot WAIT to read the next book in the series!!!! :)

Total Score: 5/5

Summary:
Remi finally has the family she wanted, but things at the Academy of Shifters is anything except safe. From her boyfriend being away, the upheaval of who will run the school, to the unknown enemies who will do anything to take what they want the danger is apparent in every page.

Remi has to struggle to find the truth in a world where no one can or should be trusted and those closest may be your worse enemy.

This was a wild ride from the start and where it will all end in anyone’s guess.

The Truth--Maybe

In this book of the series, the truth about many things gets revealed. Knowing the truth may not be what you really want.

I had read the first book in the series and then started reading this one. The first couple of chapters reminded me of what I might have forgotten and what I had missed. Although they seemed a bit confusing, they were effective in setting the stage.

Our protagonist, Remi, is the recipient of the truths that are revealed. She also takes a few actions that lead to a mess,

There is plenty of action and even more dialogue -- especially between Remi and her recently acquired Mom. There is a lot of reliance on telepathic communications which was sometimes disconcerting.

Overall, an enjoyable read.

Ok, a ton of stuff happens in this book to bring the overall series arc along. SO much better than the last, so I will be waiting eagerly for the next novel. I think the last novel and this one could have been condensed into one, but I suppose every series has a unit that is weaker than the rest, like how the 2nd LOTR movie was not as dynamic or satisfying as the first or third. So there are answers for the characters as more truths are revealed. I can't say that the characters actually grow, but we understand them better. And the revelation at the end was NOT something I had predicted, which is always a plus for me.

I finally finished on time for once! For some reason I thought this was the last book in the series, but I was wrong. More and more keeps getting revealed and Remi definitely goes through the wringer in this book. Secrets about characters come to light but more question come up. I can't wait for the next one and find out more about these characters and this world!

I received an arc for my honest review.

I know I say it all the time buuut.... this author is awesome!!!! Thoroughly enjoyed the next chapter in this series of books. I literally listened to it over 2 days.... it was THAT good! The plot is getting darker, questions from the previous chapters are being answered and there are as always more twists and turns than a Helter Skelter!! Every time I finish I want more!!!

This book was given to me for free at my request and I have provided this voluntary review
