About the author A true southern girl, Alexandria House has an affinity for a good banana pudding, Neo Soul music, and tall black men in suits. When this music-loving fashionista is not shopping, she's writing steamy stories about real black love.
nice insta lovey romance about a gentle giant with murderous tendencies and a CNA with a troubled past
honestly this book is a bit wild and when i say insta love i mean instant! so I’m not sure if it’s for everyone but I liked it 😁 Shu’s fine, crazy ass could get it up down left right front and center if he wanted it! 👌🏽 Top tier unhinged energy about him i love it
This series is my new obsession! I loved these books so much! I couldn’t do nothing else but listen to the audiobooks of the whole series all day. I don’t know what it is about these books that just resonated with me. The reading experience was too good!
Shu is the quiet, stoic brother who looked after Denver with everything he had. Both of these characters come from really broken homes and I loved seeing them thrive towards the end. They deserved that.
*Trigger warnings for mention of childhood sexual assault and parental abuse*
Two broken souls coming together. The resolution to this story might not be for everyone, but I loved this story as a whole. And this series of "just" erotic novellas about three brothers who are the epitome of an alpha, was surprisingly as good or even better than some full length series.
While I loved me some Shu, it does not measure up to Set and Jah. Don’t get me wrong, the book was really good but, it was not nearly as entertaining as the first two. That’s probably because the storyline was more serious. My heart just broke for Denver. And, that piss poor azz mama of hers made me want to fight her! This wench had the audacity to ask Denver to come stay with her when she got out of the hospital after she chose that pasty pale face husband of hers over her child?!!! Bytch bye! I loved how protective Shu was with Denver. He definitely proved he’d do anything for her. You gotta love a man who’ll go to those lengths. When Shu was pouring out his feeling at the breakfast table and asked Denver to marry him, I don’t know who cried more. Me or Denver?!!! I love reading about passionate black couples and, even though these books were novellas, I really enjoyed Them Boys.
I just knew I was going to absolutely love and adooore Shu Shu. He was a quiet, observant stoic man, full of hurt, full of brokenness, full of love to give and soo loveable himself. But my goodness, these boys' father did a number on them. They all were affected differently in a pretty severe way, but I feel like Shu probably took it the hardest, and it affected him the worst. But when he met Denver, he was different. He was kind and gentle with her. It was a treat watching (reading) him slowly fall for her. Denver had her share of past trauma too. She hid it well, though. She was a lot younger than Shu, and her sexual appetite was through the roof. But Shu was able to match her energy in the bedroom well. They were two broken souls who meshed so well together. I guess you could say trauma bonding. Bummed the series is over. I've grown to love these crazy, wild boys. It gave us closure and the HEA these boys deserve. I loved this series.
My, man, my man, my man! I loved Shu! 🥰🥰🥰🥰 He is mine, I am his, and I'm ready to pull up and tussle. So, watch yourselves. 😉😉😉😉 In cased you missed it, I'm claiming all three brothers. Set, Jah (especially Jah), and Shu are mine. I don't want no smoke so, don't start none; won't be none. 😏😏😏😏
I didn’t think I would like this one because of the age gap cus I just can’t imagine a 25 year old with someone that’s 41. But hey, it worked for them!
Okay here’s the thing, I’ve now read the Them Boys trilogy in its completion and I think I’ve struggled to rate them because they’re a little different from her other books that I’ve loved. Yes, there is a deep theme of overcoming abuse and love healing old hurts, and Alexandria House is ALWAYS excellent with character development and creating compelling characters that you want to know more about and whose stories intrigue you, but I think I was hoping that there would be more of a turny-twisty story done with these premises and instead they felt like erotic shorter novellas. Like i wanted more story but then every other page they were banging and it’s like can you sort out some of your deeper issues, can we explore some of these conflicts and just take the story out of the horizontal lane for a minute???
The premise of this 3rd book is that Shu, the quiet Mitchell brother, meets and falls in lust/love with his father’s nurse, Denver, a down on her luck CNA with a past as murky as his own. I liked this a lot more than the previous book because they did resolve some of their issues but I think a lot of the drama and meat of the story was zapped through with an unnecessary acreage instead dedicated to sexy times almost every other page as a solution to all the problems. There is also definitely a problematic or at least questionable resolution to this story that might not be for everyone. It wasn’t for me personally, but I also don’t judge Shu for what he did. Throughout this trilogy, there are themes of child abuse, toxic masculinity, and in this book specifically, sexual abuse of a minor. So take all the precautions because there are triggers. The author responsibly lets you know at the beginning so it shouldn’t be shocking.
I feel like if you take these books at face value without any expectation as erotic romance or romantica, you will probably like them more than I did. I think I got excited by the thought of full novels with these compelling characters covering these really important themes and allowing big, tough, somewhat violent men to be vulnerable and I was left kind of disappointed.
Shu and Denver were a loveable couple. I’m usually a fan of age gaps, but 16 years? That was wowzers! Initially, I thought their relationship was superficial and Denver was just getting that young thing torn up by that man. As I got into it, it became more than that. Shu was so reserved and quiet, all he did was work and visit his father. He and Denver were both from broken pasts, two people who needed to be loved and saved from their past. I loved it when Shu’s boss mentioned the change in him. Shu didn’t play about Ms. Denver, big killer. Stepdaddy had less than 12 hours when he locked eyes with Mr. Shu.
Omar messed these men up. Despite that, the Mitchell boys were good men, especially to the women they loved and loved them. They worked hard and made something of themselves, didn’t end up in jail or dead. They really didn’t have the love they needed from their mother or father. Thankfully, the Mitchell men were able to make their peace with their father and find their peace with Kareema, Tricia, and Denver.
def the best of the three brothers. actually had me crying like shed a tear. Shu is that Nigga . protector . provider . broken but ready to be all about you . him and denver both had problems from the past and intimacy was there way of being okay with those problems. i ain’t mad everyone deals with issues diff. but overall great story

So sad I've come to the end of the Mitchell brothers!! Shu was the quietest but just as traumatized as his brothers. I loved Shu and Denver's chemistry. Neither of them has experienced true love, but once they were committed to each other, they were all in. They were each other's safe spaces. Denver had never truly had a home before until she met Shu, and Shu never had someone that truly accepted him and his past.
The audiobook was GOOD. Wesleigh and Jakobi did their thang in this series. I already bought the ebooks so I can reread all my favorite parts.
If you're looking for a series where three brothers find love despite a traumatic past, then Them Boys is for you! Highly recommend reading Set and Jah's books as well.
TROPES: black romance/BIPOC/OWN voices; age gap; hero/heroine with traumatic pasts; possessive hero; found family; novellas; emotional read
TRIGGER WARNINGS: childhood abuse (not on page, just mentioned); child rape (not on page, just mentioned); death of a child; death of a parent
Shu- Shuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu!!!!! Shu (The god of peace, lions, air, and wind in ancient Egyptian religion)
Shu Mitchell the middle child of his two brothers Set and Jah. Shu was more of the quieter of the two, didn't say much, watched everything and unbeknownst to anybody else is a trained killer. Currently, he goes to the nursing home at night where his father Omar has dementia, Shu doesn't know why he goes except for the fact he doesn't sleep but takes baby naps here and there while at the home. He hates his dad, his brothers refuse to go and see him and his mother who comes during the day is just unaware (or acts like she is) that none of her children want anything to do with him or her for that matter and yet he goes at night to sit in that room and think about why he shouldn't kill him.
Denver Hayes is a CNA in the nursing home and in the evenings when she comes into the room to get Omar cleaned up, Shu is there in the cramped chair, this time Denver comes in alone and Shu offers to help her as they work together to get his father straightened out, there is an easiness, a peace that neither of them has ever really experienced before. But Denver although thinks Shu is the finest man she has ever laid eyes on, she will not allow herself to go there because there is always a pain when another person is involved and she refuses to allow herself to ever go down that road for anyone.
Shu and Denver, two broken souls looking for healing but don't know how to obtain it or how to go about receiving it. Take this journey with Shu and Denver on healing, forgiveness, trust, and love, two people fighting for the very thing that has eluded them all of their lives.
So this is the end of the road for "Them Boys" series and what a fantastic ride this was. Author Alexandria House is writing stories that will have you coming back for more, 1-clicking with the quickness and just downright happy that authors like herself are continually writing stories that resonate with all of us.
Shu Shu was most definitely my fav!!! When he said he was the killer out of the bros he had me lol. Seeing Shu open up was EVERYTHING!! I’m happy Denver came in his life and showed him a different type of happiness. Dem Boyz was a great novella series and I definitely recommend this series
Denver and Shu are one of my favorite couples by Alexandria House. They are just so endearing and I felt connected to their story so much. I am surprised that I loved this story as I am not a fan of short stories. This one was developed well and the writing was tight. Denver and Shu were both so likable and their pairing felt like their universes finally gave them a break and something great to make up for some rough childhood issues.
The narrators were spot on and they delivered this emotional storyline with just the right touch of drama and sensuality.
Finally some justice was served for the Mitchell boys.

STORY: It’s always the middle child. Shu was definitely not like his brothers. Quite and Stoic and came off more deadly to me. I like that the 3rd book had a little more depth, as it’s closing out the story with a conclusion to the brother’s past. I don’t want this to end, don’t these brothers have some sexy cousins stashed away somewhere to continue this family story.
This is an age gap romance between Shu 41 and Denver 25. Two broken people coming together and connecting on all levels. It was so amazing to see Shu opening himself up and feeling again. Denver’s past, I hated that she went through what she did. Mother’s who care more about the man they are dating than the child shame on them. In the end they both needed each other and glad at the conclusion to this story and series.
SEXUAL CHEMISTRY: Sexually, no complaints like the other 2 books, it was entertaining.
SECONDARY CHARACTERS: We got to see Set and Kareema and Jah and Trish again from book one and two. I love when they are all together. I wish Trish could give Jah and baby. Random, I know but that made me sad.
OVERALL Enjoyed this short quickie series. Mad it took me forever to get to it but either way, I’m glad I finally did.
✰✰TRIGGERS: Shu’s childhood with his father abuse. Denver’s past, sexual abuse.
****I don’t equate these stories to real life. It’s about personal taste and what you would or want to tolerate with the books you read. I know we all have different opinions and preferences with what we read. I based my book reviews on my preferences and what I like, and while these preferences may not be the same for others, I hope this review was still helpful.
This was a cute short story. I listened to the audible and the narrators really brought the story to life. I enjoyed reading about Shu and Denver- I could tell Shu loved her and would move Heaven and earth for her.
Clearly, I ain’t living life right! Clearly, I need to be looking at these 40 years old... don’t sleep on em sis! Don’t sleep on em sis! Alexandria, you DON’T MISS!
I really liked this one.. their love was just so beautiful and fierce and protective (especially from Shu) and they truly deserve each other😭 Also these Mitchell men are wild but I love them all 🤍
The best in the series by far. The two MCs were well suited and communicated well. We got a better sense of family than from the other books which was nice because it is about 3 brothers so it was weird to me that we did not see them interact that much. The two MCs had tragic pasts. The male MC was again too possessive, protective and violent (not toward the female MC at all) for me but its made sense in this story I guess.
This was cute! I think Shu was my favorite of the brothers, because that brooding quiet type gone do it ERRRYTIMEEEEEE- but this was a quick and fun audiobook to listen to in order to pass time. I don't really have much to say or think about this one- if you need a quick palette cleanser this was nice.
Shu Shu!! Was so darn sexy and him and Denver were awesome together that hot sexy deep love. Protect me and love me but still be my strength just to sexy we got to see what made Shu tick and saw them other Mitchell men just sexy.
This the third in this hot and sexy novella by Alexandria House totally disappointed me. It didn't have any depth and I felt was a bit rushed and underdeveloped for a short story. As with all three in the series, I did enjoy that the men were hot, steamy and full of sexiness.
General series thoughts: love the author's voice, but the novella format doesn't do justice to the trauma backstory. Read via library/audio (narrated by Jakobi Diem and Wesleigh Siobhan).
