The New Girl

Rate this book
Moving to Los Angeles was a mistake. My mom thinks sunshine, the beach and fresh air is just what I need.Which would be great if I didn’t also mean having to be The New Girl at Pacific High.Because apparently, that role comes with a target on my back.Hunter West is the king of the school, the popular, rich and spoiled bad boy who also happens to be drop dead gorgeous. They warned me about him and said that he won’t stop until he gets what he wants. And he wants me.But he’s the baddest of bad boys, and he seems dead set on becoming my worst nightmare. You see, he’s never had anyone say no before.Until he met me.But I don't like bullies. But he's not taking no for an answer. If he thinks he can change my mind, he’s got another thing The New Girl is the first book in the Pacific High Series. It is a young adult/new adult romance that at times deals with real-life gritty themes, sexual content and cursing. But if you want teen angst, heart pounding drama, and lust-filled romance, then this bad boy romance series will be right up your alley.

This was an alright read. It was not the best bully romance that I have read, but it was not bad as well. I thought the story was a bit predictable, but I still enjoyed some parts of it. Also, I think that the characters were okay. Nothing really stood out about them, and I was having a hard time relating to them. I am wondering how the series will turn out, so I will be continuing the series. I am wondering if Book 2 will be better. Overall, an okay read.

So confused

I am not sure that I just read. It’s basically half of a book, ever single scene is missing more information. Every conversation seems to be half of what it should be. The two main characters have so many half conversations, it made me want to pull my hair out. The heroine was a virgin and they slept together, there was a question about whether he had slept with anyone else after that. Never once is it states that he didn’t. Such a simple sentence, but it’s skipped over several times when it would have fit right in. I didn’t know what to think. The author just didn’t give us enough information.

I am disappointed in this book. The bad boy (Hunter) isn’t really all that bad.
In fact he’s a bit of a wimp.
Now Josh, Josh has real problems.

Also, Kennedy. For a seventeen year old who has moved to a new town (L.A) and already suffered emotional trauma in her life, she seems pretty put together.
I couldn’t believe how quickly she was ready to jump into bed with Hunter.
A guy she hadn’t known very long, so it was basically a decision she made on physical attraction only...hmmm
The writing style is very light weight at times, and things jump around a lot.
The plot and situations that play out are nothing new or groundbreaking.
The (supposed) hunky bad boy who sleeps around and everyone thinks is a f##k boy.
A crazy ex who he is over but she didn’t get the memo.
The pose of girlfriends who help her by providing background on the lives of Hunter and his family.
The usual party settings where most of the drama goes down. AND the willing girlfriends who drag her to them.
Overall Kennedy comes across as a confused character. One minute she absolutely despises Hunter THEN as soon shes slept with him and given in, the story loses its punch and becomes a little pedestrian .
For a girl with limited sexual experiences all of a sudden she appears to know it all.
At the end (like a lots of these books) the author directs us to the next book in the series but, I don’t thing I care enough about what happens to Hunter and Kennedy to bother.
Like I said the writing in this book is very half baked.

“I say you look so fine that I really wanna make you mine.”
I swallow hard. It’s just a stupid song, right?
When the song ends, he turns the radio off.
“That’s you.”
I don’t answer.
“That girl,” he says. “The one in the song with the long brown hair and big black boots and jet black stare. You.”

It was cringy, above acceptable, the book discussed tiktok way too quickly, yes it is the modern age that I should accept but I don’t think I want to ever get to the book stage where grown adults are written about how they do their tiktok dances and use their Snapchat filters. It icks me.

The book was predictable and very very on point and strange to the point where I was bored.

“And Ava is full of shit, too. She’s a thot,” Coral says.
I wrinkle my nose. “What’s a ‘thot?’” Must be some California term.
“Stands for ‘the ho on the side,’” Coral says.
“Basically, a slut,” Paige adds. “Last year she got really drunk at some party and had sex with some football players in front of everyone.”

She literally slut shamed the other girl, and no one deserves that.

It was just awkward and painful to get through.

What did I just read

I just did not like this book. Storyline was all over the place in my opinion.
Did not feel there was a real connection between Kennedy and Hunter other than physically. Not for me.

This was drama from the first page to the last which essentially made it a page turner. That’s the good.
The bad is there were a lot of grammar issues as well as continuity errors. There were times that timelines didn’t stay straight. One page she was 18 the next 17. The drama was overdone and forced in a few places. Some scenes were drawn out and others were rushed.
However, I have hopes that those types of problems could be smoothed out in the future so I am willing to read the next in the series.

This is meh

This book is meh to be honest . I got to 80% but it was tiring to say the least. It drags out in places and then doesn't give enough descriptive language in others . Feels like it wasn't ready to be read .

Cliffhanger(?): Yes!
Heat: 2.5/5, it was rather dull and very quick.
Romance: 3/5
Suspense: 3.5/5
Drama: 4/5
Bully: 2.5-3ish/5
No Spoilers.
This was an pretty decent read, Kennedy was a bit confusing to me in a few sections of the book. Some conversations felt stagnant and some scenes felt...convenient. The development between was slowish which I liked and isn’t insta thankfully, I do look forward to reading the next book though.

Typos

The editing needs more work. Usually I can read through it and move on, but man this book was in desperate need of a revision.

The characters were well developed, even though the story line was rushed and sloppy at times. The maturity level was well matched. It was a good start to a series. Kennedy has a ton of drama and stressors she can't seem to escape. Poor girl deserves a break. Hunter is swoon worthy when he's not raging. I hope to hear more of his story in the next installment. Supporting characters were great, I loved getting to know each of them and see they are perfect for this particular book.

✨I received an ARC of The New Girl in exchange for an honest review ✨

Angsts , young-adult, friendship, love, crazy ex boyfriend /girlfriends drama and a whole lot of happenings, I just loved it !
—————————————————————-
This is the first book in the Pacific High series and first out is Kennedy and Hunters story.

Kennedy Conner has just moved to sunny California to live with her mums gay friend . The reason? Well , it’s complicated, what is more complicated is that Mr Bully a.k.a hot as hell seems to be interested in her , by the way he goes by the name Hunter .

Hunter West is a player , a fuck boy . He is used to get any girl he want and he wants them often but he doesn’t do the whole girlfriend thing yes he is the no strings attached kind of guy . There is no and I mean no girl that would say no to him ,until he meets the new girl with the killer boots and the funny thing about new girl ? She is immune to his charm , how is that even possible?
—————————————————————
The trend of writing books about bully romance seems to hold on,there are a variety of books out there and the interest is still quite high so the trend is definitely here to stay.

The New Girl do succeed to stick out from other bully romance and the main reason is the character of the heroine Kennedy . She acts just like the reader thinks she should act while you are reading the book . I really enjoy all the characters of the book and the story was so well put together that I read the book within a couple of hours . I can’t wait for the following books in the series since the are plans for at least three more books , so enjoy the ride and welcome to the world of Pacific High .

Not sure what I made of this one.

1. i did like the characters but there was nothing very special about them. Kennedy was a bit confused i think about what she wanted and Hunter was described as a 'f***boy' but didn't seem to do anything to warrant this title.
2. for a so-called bully romance there didn't seem to be any bullying going on. Hunter has a temper yes but from the start it seems clear that he likes Kennedy.

I feel like description of the book did not actually match the content. This could have been a good book but I feel like the introduction of the ex-girlfriend took a turn for the ridiculous. i mean we've all heard of the jealous ex and they are usually an interesting plot twist. But this book is set in high school so maybe i was expecting usual high school drama? and something so bizarre and crazy?

The ending was totally random - where would a high schooler get the idea to drug someone for being with their ex-boyfriend.

This could have easily been one book, i do not see the need for 4 books in the series. I won't be purchasing the other books as I do not feel they will be value for money.

I did like the characters though and would have left a higher rating had the ending not been so ridiculous and the conclusion to the story being in 3 books time. I may finish the series if it were to ever become available on KU but at this moment in time cannot see myself purchasing the remainder of the series.

>Book Review – The New Girl
>I am an independent reviewer. This book is the 1st in the Pacific High School series and has a positive ending. Kennedy is the new senior in Pacific High. Her backstory includes an abusive dad in prison and an extremely injured mom. Kennedy lives across the country with the gay BFF of her mother. Her mom is in rehab for her injuries. This situation allows Kennedy to live her senior year with little to no supervision.
>Hunter is one of the first students Kennedy comes in to contact with. Hunter is a bad boy man whore, who happens to want Kennedy. The students in this school are all rich with wealthy or famous parents. Kennedy does not come from a background like that, but really assimilates well. She is also a virgin. She gives it up way too fast to a known man whore, I felt. I did like that Kennedy was able to make a few friends easily. Usually most bully stories have all bullies and no friends.
>This book is appropriate for a young adult (18+) audience. I am giving this book 4 stars. The romance came on too quickly.

This was not what it detailed on the back of book. Well on front of kindle book. This is free on Amazon for kindles and pitched as this New York girl moving to Richey School in Cal, the tuff bully guy she was not going to get involved with, she left a 2-year relationship behind and would not give up her V-Card, so please tell me by charter 5 she was stripped down in this bullies' bed ready to give it up, and she was supposed to be this tuff strong girl. We have 36 chapters in this book, and she has already fallen. It was pitched one way but went opposite, also don't know who did the editing for this book, but there were many mistakes just in the first couple of chapters alone. I just had to DNF could not take anymore, and the lack of parental parenting was sad really. Go get it on kindle for free try yourself could be for someone just not me. Thought it was promising for how it sounds, sadly no... Gina Clabo

Kennedy the new girl with a messed up home life. Hunter the player with plenty of female baggage. Carly the crazy ex. Ryan the boyfriend back home and Josh he may be good looking but he's bad news. There all part of Kennedy's new life her old one in Brooklyn is over she broke up with her boyfriend her mom's in rehabilitation and her dad's going to prison. Hunter won't stop messing with her and all his exes hate her not to mention the football player who wants her even when she tells him no. She and Hunter may finally get together but others can't wait to tear them apart. This book ends with a happy for now ending. Kennedy is tough and has to deal with allot of drama and some serious mean girls Hunter is a jerk but becomes better by the end. Can't wait to see were this all ends.

Honestly when I say the cover of this book I was really excited to read it

But now since I have read it I am absolutely disappointed

When I normally read these books it gives a special feeling and with this book I didn't get that

Basically Hunter is supposed to be the so called "bad guy" which when he steps in or comes into the picture people should instantly be aware of his presence but I'm only getting that vibe for Josh...... Basically what i saw was upon Hunter and Kennedy's second meeting( meaning the one that was actually described because the others weren't) they had sexual intercourse

Also after the description of Hunter and Kennedy's first scene(including the first film class) a couple pages after Hunter was totally missing he was only mentioned just a few times

I'm sorry but this book just turned me off from the others

Solid story.

I don’t remember if this was listed as a fast paced romance, but I feel like it should be. Don’t get me wrong. I loved Kennedy and Hunter’s story but I felt like their story could have been set to a slower pace.

Spoilers ahead.

When I say rushed. I mean really rushed. New girl with a troubled past meets bad boy with a anger problem. They knew each other less than a week when she handed her virginity over to him and she didn’t even know him! 🤦🏻‍♀️ and he didn’t even realize she was a virgin until after the fact. I don’t know, I don’t want to give any more spoilers so I’ll end this by saying that I really WANTED to love this book.

DNF (45%) This book was really disappointing. Considering it so proudly claims to be of the bully romance subgenre, I was very unhappy with how little conflict actually took place between the main character and the love interest. The MC herself is a pain in the butt, and while I appreciate her snarky comebacks, she was naive, foolish, trusting and so damn dramatic. The entire book seemed like a ten year old's attempt at writing pretty little liars fanfiction. It was cringe worthy, unnecessarily dramatic and completely predictable. Will definitely not be staying around to bother with the second half.

Kennedy moves from Brooklyn to L.A. As the new girl in school she catches the eye of the hottest bad boy in school. Kennedy and Hunter have a love hate relationship more love then hate though. Kennedy is trying to move on what happened in Brooklyn. She makes friends with Hunters step sister without know she was his sister. There are surprise visits from both of their past that will either make them grow closer or pull them apart. I cant wait more I want more books about Kennedy and her friends.

kennedy is the new girl in town with a target on her back, as a teen just trying to fit into life in high school, mean girls and boys make life hell for kennedy , this is something she can handle unitl hunter comes into play , chaos, angst, betrayal, deception, backstabbing, love, romance, ex boyfriend and crazy possessive ex girlfriend comes into play. this was a great story for my first time read of this author but wont be my last time . I highly recommended it

The ending was the most exciting part, but that makes sense since it's a series. I liked it. It was a little predictable . Still a solid start for a series. There was a good amount of drama but for some reason I wasn't like I couldn't stop reading. Saying that I did read this in a day. Quick read. Pretty good considering I wasn't bored reading it. I downloaded this book because I was kinda tired of reading the longer slow-burn bully romances. I needed a little bit of a break.( but not too much cuz this is still a bully romance!)

Terrible book

Honestly this book needs an editor to look at it - I am does not always turn into I'm (go ahead read the book you'll know what I'm taking about). There are also many misspelled words, sentences that repeat, and times when I think the author forgot which character was which. The story line was super cringy and there were so many times where I rolled my eyes thinking "why am I reading this" but I make it a point to finish what I start so I can honestly say that (in my opinion) this book is not worth picking up.

Ashley Rose is a new author to me but I will definitely be reading her books in the future.

Kennedy is the new girl at a high school in L.A. moving from Brooklyn to live with her mom's best friend. She is immediately the target of the mean girls of the new school when all she was doing was trying to help. Not only did she catch their eye, but also the eye of the bad boy Hunter. Thankfully, Kennedy makes a few friends but from there life has many twists and turns in store for her.

Under Developed Story

This story was all over the place with parts of each situation just thrown in each chapter without a flow. The characterization of the characters were so under developed to the point where there was no one character that I was rooting for. No likability for the main characters or side characters. The development of a story is what draws a reader in and this one really missed the mark.

For a book with less than 200 pages, it took me a while to complete. Story was so predictable. A lot of unecessary cursing and name calling. Some parts are little too much/cringe but it did keep me entertained. I wanted to know why and what happened.

It's not a bad book.

This is book 1? There's a second book about Hunter and Kennedy as well? I'm sure Hunter went cray cray again and Kennedy is in tears but.

this is just a book of contradictions....

and all of the are so far fetched...

new girl is been in the school for a couple of weeks, has interact w the hunter for 3 or so time and it's already so un love w him to give him her v card? what? where's the bully, he hasn't even done that? not I'm complaining but why have bully romance if there isn't any, maybe I have to keep reading to find out but I won't.

Totally loved this story about Kennedy moving to l.a and her meeting Hunter. The pair go through many twists and turns that hurts them both. I.e. his ex and her ex. Plus a few other factors that create a great story with a dark twist. That leaves Hunter fighting to help and show his love for Kennedy.
Wicked book

Wow! Not sure what I expected with this book. But from the moment I started reading, I couldn’t put it down. I look forward to learning more about Kennedy’s storyline as it unfolds. Absolutely love Hunter’s nickname, Boots, for her. There’s just something about angsty teenage romance drama. Love love love it!

This was my first read from this author and I liked it. The new girl, moves to Los Angeles, after her dad ends up in prison for beating up her mom. And, of course being labeled as the new girl in school she catches attention of the hottest guy. A good read.
