A Navy SEAL on leave. A neuroscientist in danger.
And one dance that might give them a second chance...

Catherine

A stranger has been warning me about my research for the government. My coworkers tell me not to worry, but it bothers me. I can't let it show, though. This is my first time as a project lead. At least, a weekend wedding in Newport promises a much needed escape.

But when I come face to face with Angelo DeMarchis, that illusion shatters.

He's the one who got away.

And he's grown even sexier after all these years.

That's when I realize I'm in even more trouble.

And once again, the price might be my heart.

Angelo

I've needed this leave for a long time, but the memories haunt me no matter where I go.

Even at a wedding--a happy occasion--where I run into a woman from my past.

Catherine has become even hotter since high school. I wouldn't mind spending every minute I'm home with her.

There's only one problem.

Her research has gotten her into trouble.

She downplays the warnings, but I'm not buying it.

I have ten days to make sure she's safe.

She's mine and I won't let anyone get to her.

This time I'm playing for keeps.

Meet the DeMarchis family in this series by USA Today bestselling author Lisa Carlisle. Navy SEALs, Marines, and hometown heroes -- each who encounters his most complicated mission yet when he will find a woman from his past challenges his plans for his future.

DNF - I’m not giving any stars because I think it might just be bad timing for me & this book. However, I was looking for romantic suspense and it’s over 30% in and MC’s are just now having conversations with each other. There’s a difference between slow burn and boring... unfortunately, this is leaning toward boring. Maybe some other time.

The couple: Angelo and Catherine

Romance genre: second chance; romantic suspense
Series: Anchor Me
Length: 236 pages

Plot: Angelo and Catherine knew each other back in high school, dating briefly. Catherine is a little bitter that he was able to leave and forget her, so she isn't very forthcoming when she meets him again at a family/friend wedding. But once they reconnect, it comes out that Catherine, a neuroscientist, is actually in danger because of her job. Since Angelo is a Navy SEAL, who better to help her than a certified military bada$$.

Commentary: Both characters in this story were a little frustrating. Catherine was so petty at the beginning of the story. They haven't seen each other in ten years and they're dressed up for a wedding and she's mad that he doesn't recognize his high school girlfriend. And then there's the whole back and forth with their relationship/not-relationship. Angelo believes he just wants a physical relationship, and that's all it can be, but he sure does stick around for someone who says that. And Catherine is so stubborn, you just knew she was going to get herself into trouble. And then when she had a chance to come clean and take the protection Angelo could offer, she just got mad at him for interfering. Sorry, but if you want a relationship, that sometimes comes with the other person caring about you!

Angelo finds his career as a Navy SEAL rewarding but emotionally challenging as well. While he is on leave, he is looking forward to spending some time with his family which includes his cousin’s wedding. While there he didn’t expect to reunite with the woman he dated as a teenager, and he certainly didn’t expect that would involve protecting her as well.

Catherine’s research as a neuroscientist has placed her in danger but her independent personality has her determined to face it on her own. Now she finds herself battling her feelings for her first love as he may want to protect her but because of his actions in the past she doesn’t believe she can trust him to stay.

This is a second chance for Angelo and Catherine as in the past their lives veered in different directions. They must now decide if what they have is strong enough to build a future together but first that means extinguishing the danger in the present.

This is a well written book with strong characters in Angelo and Catherine. It's a second chance romance with them meeting up at a wedding ten years after high school. The author takes you into their lives with chemistry and love and kept me turning the pages with the suspense and danger. She moves it fluidly and delivers an entertaining read.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and are freely given.

This is a great start to this series! A well written second-chance romance spiced with steam and suspense between a navy seal and a neuroscientist in trouble. Hooked from the very start this contemporary romance is addictive and the characters have amazing chemistry and if romance is your thing then I guarantee you will not be able to put this down!

Angelo
Angelo is a Medic with the Navy SEALS on leave to attend a wedding in his hometown of Newport, RI. He is struggling with losing a good friend that he could not save. He is looking to rest, relax and maybe hook-up with a woman. Long term relationships are not for him.
Catherine is a neuroscientist. She is a bridesmaid in her college roommates ’wedding. She is the lead researcher in a new project at work. She wants to succeed. There has been threatening emails and texts to her to stop her research. This is making Cate nervous and alarmed.
Ten years ago, Cate and Angelo briefly dated after high school. Cate thought he was the one, but her left to join the Navy and she went on to school. Today she sees him at the wedding. He is looking better than he did in high school. Could he still be single?
This is a sweet yet suspenseful story of second chances. Can they save each other and be just perfect for each other after ten long years?
This author is one of my favorites. She writes phenomenal paranormal romances. This offering shows how versatile she is writing contemporary romance.

Catherine is a neuroscientist and has received multiple warnings from a stranger about the research she is doing for the government. So a friend's wedding in Newport gives her the break that she needs. Then she comes face to face with sexy Navy SEAL Angelo DeMarchis (the one who got away) her hopes for the weekend shatter. Angelo has needed this leave for a long time in order to try and get over the memories that plague him from his time in service, but then he runs into Catherine who is now so much hotter than she was in high school. He really would like to spend the whole of his leave with her, but there is a problem with the research she is doing. She might be downplaying the warnings but he can't see it - it is ringing alarm bells for him. In his ten days of leave, can he make sure she is safe because this time he really is playing for keeps as he has realised that they belong together?

I really enjoyed this story with the separate tracks of the second chance love as well as the danger from the crazed person around her work. I loved that Angelo had to make sure of his SEAL skills in order to keep her safe. The DeMarchis family seemed like a lovely family and that the three sons were all well rounded and very brave people considering their jobs. I think we could all do with an Angelo in our lives. Easy to read and understand. Contains explicit sexual content.

This book was good, interesting, but not what I would have expected for a Navy Seal .. and I am not sure this author knew her main character was a Seal or just a Navy Corpman...

it's about a Navy Seal named Angelo DeMarchis and an analytical scientist named Catherine "Cate " Boudreaux.
Angelo was the corpsman and a medic for his team. Angelo is on leave for his cousin's wedding and to spend time with his family. Angelo and Cate dated in high school some 10 yrs ago ...but Angelo didn't recognize her while he was talking to her at the wedding. Angelo figure out who she was with the help of his cousin. Then they started hanging out at her house. Cate had a guy who was harassing her thru emails and now was also connecting to her by letters to her house. Cate had told Angelo she didn't want to see him again because he read one of the letters. The bad guy sent a box of a dead rat brain to her job. Cate's two cats went missing and things in her house were in the wrong place. Cate called Angelo hoping to rescue her regardless of what she did to push him away.....

Boring. Started of well but I was skimming pages half way through!

It was okay. I think that’s being kind to the author as well.

Cate never got over her first love from school, Angelo.
He left her to be a seal. Years later she’s a bridesmaid at her friends wedding when she sees Angelo. At first he doesn’t recognise her and she’s really hurt and tells him a different name. They start dating but he tells her it can’t be a relationship. So they see each other every night and have sex everywhere but it’s not a relationship?

Cate is receiving threatening letters about her job. The problem is that there’s no real tension as it isn’t well written. By the time she’s in real danger I couldn’t care less! It was just so boring!!! And I hated him and his two brothers going to a wedding to get laid as women are desperate at weddings!!! The sex scenes are boring!!! Very wham bam and over. With her having an amazing orgasm from sex. As per usual. Poor writing. Most women aren’t able to orgasm through sex alone!

Angelo and Catherine

Angelo came home on leave for a wedding and time with the family. He hoped to find a woman to spend a night or two with but he wasn't planning a relationship. As a SEAL he was gone on dangerous missions. Not a good thing for him or a woman. Then he saw her at the wedding. He danced with her at the wedding. Ten years ago...

Catherine saw him. Danced with him. Was there a chance for them? Not for the long term. Was she willing to spend what time they had just to say goodbye—again?

Not only did they have feelings, she had someone threatening her about her work. Was the threat just a crank or more?

These two are characters to love and cheer for them to be able to work out their problems. His family is fun, loyal, and people I want to read more about. I'm hoping for stories about the other two brothers.

The author has given us a romance with everything, love, steam, family, humor, and characters you respect and love.

A new to me author, Ms. Carlisle drew me into a great story with this first book in the new series Anchor Me.

This is the story of Angelo and Catherine.  High school sweethearts that were separated by time and distance.

Catherine is a brilliant neuroscientist, she is smart, clever and a bit naive to the ugly side of life.  She tries to believe the best in people and doesn't want to become a nuisance or a burden to anyone.

Angelo, this Navy SEAL is everything that an alpha hero should be.  He is loyal and fierce and will do anything to protect the ones he cares about.

When Angelo and Catherine meet again, sparks fly and the chemistry between them is white-hot!

This was a fast-paced story with heat, some thrills, and a bit of humor.  It was lovely meeting the whole DeMarchis family in this first story and I can't wait to see the other brothers' stories in the future!

Catherine has spent years trying to forget Angelo until she sees him at the wedding of her friend. When he doesn't remember who she is, she gives him a fake name and plans to never see him again. It isn't long, though, before he recognizes her as the girl he left behind when he went into the Navy after high school. As they begin to rekindle their relationship, they are plagued by the fact that Angelo's leave will be over in a week and at the same time Catherine is dealing with a disgruntled subject from her latest neuroscience project.

Angelo is a predictable romantic suspense with no mystery and flat characters. The plot relies mostly on a fairly standard second chance romance between two static characters, making it difficult to care about what happens to them in the story. Also, there is little or no conflict between the characters beyond their initial meeting when Angelo doesn't remember Catherine. Overall, Angelo is a very weak story about two uninteresting characters.

I haven't read a non-Paranormal book in quite a while, but since Ms Carlisle is one of my favorite PNR authors, I decided to give it a try and man she didn't disappoint. This was one helluva story and I can't wait to read Angelo's brother Vince's story.

Can you carry a torch for a guy since you were a teenager 10 years ago? You betcha and I'm not going to let him go back without getting that taste that I missed out on 10 years ago, maybe this way I won't fantasize about him anymore.

Angelo is a Seal thru and thru, but when he gets a look at that gorgeous maid of honor at his cousins wedding, he starts to rethink his life in the service especially when he discovers that she is his Cate from that long ago time before he enlisted. He never quite forgot her and how is he ever going to forget her now after the time they spend together.....

Wow! “ANGELO” is the 1st must read in a new contemporary romantic fiction series, with a hot military character, some sweet romance & a touch of suspense! ... I was hooked from the first page, and didn’t want to stop reading until I was done, but then it left me craving more :o lol ... This has a fresh new storyline, great characters like the H/h, Angelo & Catherine with a great storyline about “the one who got away” when they were younger! Super detailed descriptions and witty dialogue will pull readers into the story & keep those pages turning! ... And who doesn't love second chances with a HEA, right?! Even tho I always volunteer to read this author’s works, these are my own feelings & I honestly recommend this to adult fans of fiction & now I can't wait to read more!

It makes me laugh when I read books and read the famous words, "I am never getting married." Why, does it make me laugh because we all know in romance novels after you utter those words that means that you are going to be the next one walking down that aisle. Let's first though talk about the two main characters.

Angelo DeMarchis is a macho guy who is home on leave and going to a cousin's wedding. So I chuckle with Angelo faults as he wants to do things his way and no one can go against that. But you see him grow through the books and you end up falling in love with this big hunk of man. Catherine is a sweet lady who just seems to be having some weird things happening to her. No one will listen to her about this guy sending letters to her and threatening her. She feels like she is on her own. She of course has her own faults but also grows through the story.

The plot of this story has some slow parts and then in others you feel like things are jumping around. But it's a sweet story and there is a little smut in it. The smut though is tame compare to some of the other books I have read in the past. I enjoyed this story and could see both characters in this book. I do wish there was more action both in the bedroom and outside of it to help sped up the slow parts. But it was not a bad read.

What a sweet and amazing story!

Angelo and Cate used to date, only to find something happened in their senior year before graduation. After that, Angelo went to military and Cate chase her dream being PhD in neuroscience. Angelo didn't recognize her at first, and it hurt Cate's confidence (of course!). Later they made up and had a fling, only to find it's not fling at all.

I love how the author describe the characters, how they think and how they react is very human. I enjoy their connection, even their separation where they're trying to find best compromise. Plus, I'm a sucker for a brainiac woman. It's sexy and awesome!

I definitely will read the other books in the series, it is super promising.

I liked the characters yet their story seemed to follow a formula in many romance novels. Characters are attracted to one another, get involved, have trouble in their relationship due to misunderstandings. Throw in a villain so the male protagonist exemplifies heroism, then the love birds kiss and make up and story ends with a walk up the aisle to unite them in marriage.
Another review found this book boring. For me it was just interesting enough but didn't really capture me as other books have with their drama, suspense, and angst. This didn't have the breath holding, nail biting qualities that addict you to the plot.
Also, the dialogue isn't very sophisticated, it's sophomoric.

Maybe just a rough start

It wasn't that I didn't like the book it just wasn't that compelling. The suspense part wasn't really that suspenseful and it wasn't fleshed out sufficiently, there was only partial resolution - we never get an explanation on the why. At one point Cate really became irritating and started acting irrationally. I just didn't connect with the characters all that much and their chemistry didn't seem all that believable, I wanted it to be great but it didn't leave me anxious to read the next book in the series so maybe I'll revisit it another time and see if the kinks get worked at as it progresses.

Second chance, military romance

Angelo and his brothers are on leave together for the first time in years. All three are special forces military. The first thing his parents have planned is to attend a family wedding. Sitting in the audience, Angelo thinks he recognizes one of the bridesmaids.

Cate is a PHD on the workings of the brain. She’s about to walk down the aisle as a bridesmaid for her best friend when she gets a threatening email from someone claiming she is manipulating his brain and erasing his memory.
She notices Angelo in the audience and can’t believe it’s her high school boyfriend.

Can these two rekindle their romance? What about the stalker?

This is a great story that has this perfect bit of suspense swirling around Cate. She's smart, career minded woman and she keeps getting these letters that keep you wondering. I really like Angelo! He's a SEAL and home for a wedding. They had this great connection when they were young and seeing each other again definitely gets that spark going again. I couldn't put it down, it kept me engaged and flipping pages. I enjoyed the read, loved these characters and really looking forward to more from this series!

Angelo and his brothers were on leave at the same time for a wedding. All three were in the military. He was a medic and a SEAL. Cate was in neuroscience and did research and taught. Her department was getting threats from a man but recently they were becoming more personal towards her. She was a bridesmaid in the wedding. Angelo and Cate had a past. Trying for a future was full of love, danger, risk, anxiety and maybe more trouble than either one was willing to make. Interesting and exciting story

Second chances

Angelo and Cate went different ways after high school but due to a wedding of friends they have re-met each other. The sparks that were slow kindling are back and hotter now, but they have the same problem. One is in Academia and one is a Navy SEAL.

Their romance progresses and then the plot thickens when Cate is in danger but is scared to open up and trust Angelo. The writing is fast paced and captivating with the emotions, action and dialogue. The story ends with a HEA and build up to the next story of Angelos brother.

This was a fun and quick read!

This is Catherine and Angelo's second chance story, it's a well-written easy read with a storyline full of emotion, action, tension, danger, drama, as well as suspense and a touch of humour.

They've met before that was ten years ago, it wasn't the right time for either of them to pursue a relationship but now they've met again at a wedding. Now things have changed, will this second chance for them lead to a HEA?

I liked both Angelo and Catherine they were well-drawn, likeable characters who were perfect for each other.

Excellent

It's a big blow to her ego when the " boy who got away" when she was in high-school introduces himself to Catherine at a wedding. Her guess is she just wasn't memorable enough back then. With the fresh sting of rejection, she gives him a fake name and moves on with her night. Little does she know that when Angelo realizes he does know her and the memories assault him, he's not willing to give up on a second chance. Even if it's only while he's home on leave from the seals.

This was a rather sweet second chance romance, not typically what you would associate with a Navy SEAL. He may have been his Unit's Corpsman, but they are always SEALS first, and Angelo was rather tame. My parents were both Marines and I speak from experience in being around members of The Teams. However, it was a charming story between Angelo and Cate. The one I'm most looking forward to seeing take the fall is Angelo's younger brother Matty, and I hope it involves those K9's he trains.

This whole second-chance romance takes place over the span of ten days, starting at a wedding where the MMC literally didn't even remember who the FMC was...because she did her hair and makeup. The FMC was all like "OMG The one who got away" and he was like "Hi, I'm Angelo, what's your name?" Like...the setup was not there, for me. This ten day time period where they fall madly back in love (even though, I can't stress this enough, he did not remember her at first sight) was not there for me. Definitely not the worst book I've ever read, but I mean certainly not the best.

Loved this second chance romance with Angelo and Catherine who have seen each other for ten years but when they see other at a wedding they reconnect. He is not looking for a relationship and she is not either because she is so involved with her work for the government. When it is clear that someone is after her he can not look the other way so he sets out to protect her and along the way falls for her. There are some twists in this story and will you turning the pages.
