Brides of Chance Creek #4

Issued to the Bride One Marine

Marine Logan Hughes uses humor like a shield, but he’s dead serious when it comes to getting the job done—especially when the job is protecting the woman he’s been sent to Montana to marry.

Too bad Lena Reed doesn’t think she needs protecting…or a husband.

I really, really, really did not like this heroine. She has a chip on her shoulder the size of a California Redwood tree, she has control issues and daddy issues. AND the formula that was so much fun for three books, isn't fun in this one. What I really liked about this series was the romance with touches of humor, mystery and fantasy, but those elements were in short supply here. Maybe it's because I really didn't like the heroine.

Marine Logan Hughes ended up in the General's unit of misfit military men because he stood up for a woman he thought was being abused. Really a noble gesture, but it landed him in the General's unit anyway. But, that is a virtue the General could use in his campaign to marry off his daughters.

Lena Reed is a hardheaded, determined woman. She has no use of any man and barely tolerates the ones her sisters have married. They get alone just fine, as long as they stay out of her business running the ranch. She knows when Logan shows up that the General has sent him for her. Not. Going. To. Happen. Famous last words.

3.5 Two Strong Equals Stars

So as I mentioned, Cora Seton's books have become an escape addiction. My Confession is in the review for the first book, Issued to the Bride: One Navy SEAL (Brides of Chance Creek, #1).

This is the continuing series about five very special daughters who run a ranch called Two Willows.
Their father has been away for years. He is a general and when he lost his wife, he couldn't deal with the pain of being at the ranch and around all the things that reminded him of her. This left the daughters to develop deep resentment for the man.

These five daughters raised themselves up. They are strong, with unique personalities and talents. There is a mystical element to the ranch and women, each with talent all their own. When the General decides to send them husbands, it does not go down easily.

This has the most headstrong daughter Lena and her match Logan.

I've yet to pick up a Cora Seton book that I didn't immediately get drawn into the story and the characters. In fact, only the battery dying on my kindle got me to stop reading. Admittedly sometimes the subplots are a bit out of the ordinary but they are always a great feel good romance. This fourth entry in the Brides of Chance Creek was lighter on the danger aspect than the other books in this series, however the romance more than made up for it between Logan and Lena. The teaser at the end of the book, however, really has me waiting for the next book featuring Alice and Jack.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this novel.

The fourth book in the Bride of Chance Creek series focuses on Lena Reed and Marine Logan Hughes. The book picks up on the night of Hunter and Jo's wedding. Lena is furious that her father, the General, insists on marrying all her sisters off to his "army" instead of allowing his daughters to run the ranch as their mother wished. Of course, there are sparks, and as much as Lena tries to dissuade Logan, it looks like romance is in the air.

I was okay with the buildup of the romance but the book stands out to me most because Lena was such a great character. I was almost hoping that Logan might have to two books in the series to convince this particular Reed sister.

Ahh the story of Lena, the sister who wished she was not taken advantage of. She’s strong, passionate, smart and hates all things girlie. She wants to run the ranch her way but all of these men her sisters just married are making her feel outnumbered.

When Logan shows up she slams the door in his face, she will not marry him. She wants nothing to do with him. He’s a Big funny man who keeps flirting and wanting to protect her. She wants none of that. The guys ban together and decide to let her take over the ranch and request her to be Chief of all of them. She can handle this on her own but knows that without their help it will take forever, so she’ll just work them even harder.

Sometimes being so stubborn and set in her ways only stops herself from finding true happiness that she hasn’t felt ever since her mother died 11 years ago.

Good

I love the characters in this one. Lena is tough and lets nothing get in her way. Logan gets in her way all the time. I'm looking forward to the last sister's story.

This book in the series would have rated much high if only the heroine was portrayed much better in character. She had too many issues that I almost did not finish the story. Never commented on the others as they were very nice listens on audio book.

Hopefully, the last in this series ends very nice.

For the most part, I liked the book. It was a nice addition to the series. It's probably my least favorite of the series however. I loved Logan and how he set about trying to win Lena's trust and heart. But I really had a hard time warming up to Lena. She drove me crazy. For a woman who is supposed to be strong and independent, she was really dumb when it came to life. The ranch had already been attacked three times in as many months, but she refused to believe that the twins and their creepy uncle could be up to no good.

My biggest issue with this book, however, was how Lena kept hitting Logan. She didn't like being punched by her ex-boyfriend and spends a lot of the book reminding us of the fact. But she kept lashing out at Logan. She even swung a crowbar at him at one point. When he defended himself and she hit herself in the head with said crowbar and everyone blamed him! If it's not OK for men to hit women, then women shouldn't be hitting men. It's a dumb double standard and I didn't care for it.

Despite that, I did like their HEA. It was sweet and nice to see Lena become girly. I look forward to reading Alice and Jack's story next.

Brides of Chance Creek has been a great series to read. But ISSUED TO THE BRIDE ONE MARINE I had a hard time finishing. I could not get behind a woman who had violent temper tantrums and such a large chip on her shoulder. Lena's character was very disappointing. The storyline itself just didn't have the oomph the others have had and I didn't feel the chemistry between Logan and Lina. The saving grace was the setting and other characters, including Logan. He was a saint for all he put up with from that stubborn woman who was her own worst enemy. I wouldn't recommend this book. 2.5 stars

In the fourth book in the 'Brides of Chance Creek' the General sends Marine Logan Hughes to his daughter Lena in Issued to the Bride One Marine. Logan is in trouble for a misunderstanding of a altercation between an superior officer and his wife. His intentions were good, but now his career is ending and he has a way to clear his name and exit the Marines.

Lena has wanted to be the overseer for her family ranch from the time she was little and now is her chance until her father starts sending military men for husbands for his daughters as a threat to her authority. Logan suggest that the men follow orders from her and wins points, he steals kisses and teases her into falling for him in a funny and sweet romance between this pair of misunderstood people as they find all that they have in common to build a life on the ranch together.

I love this series! This is #4 in the series and is about Lena.

Possible Spoilers.....

Logan Hughes is sent to Two Willows in Montana by General Reed to "subdue and manage" his daughter Lena and Logan can't wait!
Lena is a force to be reckoned with especially if it has to do with her family or HER farm. Lena wants to be treated like a person with a brain NOT like an airhead without opinions.
Logan is trying to find away into Lena's heart but somehow he keeps puuting his foot in his mouth and sometimes both feet!
Just when everyone thinks that things are safe and secure at Two Willows....,

Lena met her match!

OMG! Lena and Logan rock the pages of this book from page one to the end. Never an easy day at Two Willows when you are constantly fighting yourself on every thought and decision. Lena is one tough cowgirl and I honestly did not believe Logan with his happy go lucky attitude would win her over. I thought he was fluff with muscles until I really met the man on the mission. This was a wonderful Romance and I cannot wait to see what happens with Alice. Brilliant Cora Bravo! Write On! Davia

Interesting characters and great dialogue. I have really enjoyed this series, but this book seemed a little flat. I think it followed the previous plots too closely to be as exciting as they were. I’m still looking forward to reading the finale, book 5, though!

I really didn't care for Lena. I found her to just be completely over the top and unreasonable. I should've expected it because she's been like this throughout the series. Logan I liked. But this was basically the same story, just different characters.

This is the worst "heroine" I've yet to read. Since when is ok for ANYONE to smack a person in the mouth deliberately with a wooden spoon, followed by trying to bash someone in the head with a tire iron and then to top things off as if this wasn't enough let's pick up a rake and try to once again go after someone's head and face with the tines. This is a person in serious need of counseling after seeing a Dr. about some type of medication for her out of control rage. Any of these things done by a man would have him in a prison cell. The rage is certainly not normal and should never be used as as HEA. I wouldn't have married anyone with this type of raging emotional issues. Horrible book. This type of rage doesn't go away with out help. Love is never a cure. And NO ONE is justified using physical violence. EVER!!
I've have like Cora Seton's book but this one was so far off the mark I'm astounded anyone could give this a 5 star rating.

Lena attacked Logan with a crowbar and got hurt when Logan defended himself against the attack. Everyone then blamed him for Lena getting hurt. This is the 3rd time she has attacked him when being angry. I don't care if your male or female, being violent is not ok. If someone came at me with a crowbar I would not put up with there shit and still want to marry. Lena mentioned many times about her relationship with Scott and how he hit her. Don't see how it's any different with her hitting Logan. Violence is not ok in any way shape or form, I don't care what your sex is.

I also hate her 'I'm a strong woman who doesn't need anyone's help' bullshit. I'm a strong woman and I don't treat people like their shit. I don't get why her brothers in law and sisters put up with her shit.
I gave the book 2 stars for Logan because I felt sorry for him.

Maybe I am too seasoned and this was written for a teenage audience but the female lead was a combination of every tomboy character I read about in Nancy Drew, Famous Five, and The Secret Seven, coupled with the self-centredness of a very immature teenager. Despite her juvenile behaviour for 90% of the book, I found it hard to believe she could snag the good marine, who was himself equally juvenile. Habsolutely unbelievable plot, bad guys, good guys...stable raising/barn raising??? the story was just a mess. Not a recommended read.

Definitely the weakest in the series so far and the treatment of partner abuse was terrible. The female lead had been struck by a boyfriend earlier in the series and he was scum for doing it but she can attack the male lead with a crowbar and that's ok because she was mad at him? Because he was able to deflect it and she's the one who ended up hurt? I thought I was looking forward to Lena's book but I should have known her pissy attitude would be funnier from the outside than from inside her head.

Terrible. I couldn't finish it. I loved the story line. Estranged Dad finds husbands for his daughters. But the men force themselves on the supposedly big strong daughters, who cry and turn into fools at the drop of a hat. In this book, the "strongest" of them all is just a fool. Attacking the guy over nothing appropriate with a crow bar. It just makes her look like a hysterical fool. Practically the whole book does.

Issued to the Bride One Marine: Brides of Chance Creek Book 4 is by Cora Seton. This is the fourth volume of the Brides of Chance Creek series which is set in the fictional city of Chance Creek, Montana. Two Willows is the ranch where the five daughters of General Reed live. Before her death, his wife had pledged not to leave the ranch until the General came home, therefore he would be safe. When she died, her daughters pledged to keep that pledge and that one of them would always be on the ranch. Over the years, the girls had kept that promise as that was where they lived while the General send governesses and overseers to take care of them and the ranch. However, the girls kept running them off and managed to keep the ranch going by themselves. Lena was the one who kept the ranch running while Cass took care of all of them, Sarah took care of the gardens, Jo took care of the dogs, and Annie took care of the house with Cass.
Meanwhile, the General made plans for them to marry. He assembled a Joint Special Task Force for Inter-Branch Communication Clarity. This was a group of men who had messed up their military careers to the point they couldn’t say no to him. What he had in mind was to find husbands for his daughters. So far, he had sent three men to the ranch and the three had married three of his daughters. Now, he was sending Logan Hughes to the ranch to marry his daughter Lena. He knew Lena needed someone special. She was belligerent, especially to anything he suggested. She was against marriage completely. At fourteen when her Mother died, she became convinced that Two Willows was hers to run. However, he believed she needed someone to help protect the ranch and her. Thus, he was sending Logan. Now he had to wait to see if it worked.
Logan arrived as instructed at Two Willows on Jo’s wedding day. He brought a gift for her from the General. As had happened with the other girls, Lena was the one who opened the door at his knock. She interrupted his introduction with, “Oh, hell no!” and slammed the door and locked it.
Logan definitely has his work cut out for him if he is to marry Lena. Can he manage to turn her ideas of marriage around and marry him? What other people or events will come between them? Can Logan protect her?

Winning Her Heart!!!

Logan Hughes, a Marine who would used humor to protect himself but he never played around when he had a job to do. He was sent to General Reed's special task force (USSOCOM) for battery and assault of a ranking officer.

Now he had an important job to do which was to protect Lena Reed, General Reed's daughter and the woman he was sent to the Two Willows Ranch in Chance Creek, Montana to marry.

Lena Reed always thought she would be the one to run Two Willows. She was very capable of doing the job but her father didn't want her putting herself in danger. Speaking of her father, she didn't think she would be able to forgive him for leaving them after their mother's death.

She wasn't looking for someone to win her heart. She'd trusted one man in the past and he betrayed her so she closed her heart away. Now she only had time for the ranch and making sure her family was safe.

After three attempts by a drug ring who wanted to set up shop in Chance Creek. She wasn't taking any chances and with the General who kept sending men for them to marry. Let's just say that Lena had enough of men who thought she was a damsel in distress.

Despite having reservations, she found herself drawn to Logan. The latter was more than beneath the eyes, he had a heart of gold. He was a protector by nature. He was able to break through her walls.

When Lena found herself in danger along with her sisters, her brothers-in-law and their ranch, Logan was there make sure they were all okay. The newly lovebirds had each others' backs.

Loved the bond between the siblings, their husbands and the General. No matter what his daughters thought of him, they all realized that he did love them.

ISSUED TO THE BRIDE : ONE MARINE is the fourth installment in Cora Seton's BRIDES OF CHANCE CREEK series. Heartwarming, passionate and intriguing. This series keeps getting better and better. 5++++

P. S. Looking forward to the next installment! ;)

And yet another "sure to be a hit", awesome read from Cora Seton. The Brides of Chance Creek series is a spinoff of the Seals of Chance Creek, with as much intrigue, suspense, action and heat, but with a new twist that will have you anxiously anticipating "the General's" next move. Based on a family of five young women who's mother passed away numerous years ago, and their father, "the General", who has been AWOL from the family ranch since her funeral, and who's grief and guilt have kept him away, desperate to keep his girls safe, but from a distance. When he sees an opportunity that will not only help him in his endeavors to do so, but also help five young and honorable men keep their good standings in the military, he jumps on it. Strategically setting up a "special office" for these men, and setting up "tasks" for them, as well as giving them an ultimatum, seems like the only way. With a special pile of letters, and a heart filled with grief, he sets the ball rolling, setting up each of his daughters with a man he believes will not only protect them, but love them the way he knows they need to be. Each episode is filled with it's own set of catastrophic events, including what appears to be a common, unknown enemy.
Ms Seton has a wonderful talent that allows you to get lost in her tales, making you feel like you are truly there, as one of her characters, experiencing the excitement as if it was your own. This episode certainly maintained that level of expertise, as we finally get to see Lena with her General appointed "intended", Logan, and follow them as they discover each other and grow together.
Anxiously awaiting Alice and Jack's story!
I received a copy of this book and am voluntarily giving my honest opinion.

Cora Seton is one of the best authors around and she has absolutely hit this one out of the park.
I think it is my favorite of the four books, Brides of Chance Creek.

Logan is determined to protect Lena from the second he set eyes on her physical person.

Logan does not believe he is meant to be a priest like both his older brothers but is confused by the recurring dream he is having.
St. Michael descended from the heavens and handed him that radiant sword he was always depicted with. In the dreams, Logan took the sword, held it firmly and wielded it like he knew what it was for.
He always woke with the sense he was supposed to protect-someone.
He had no idea what it meant until his dream came to fruition.

Lena is belligerent and fully against the institution of marriage.
She was also convinced that Two Willows was hers to run since the day she could ride.
Could Logan win her heart and convince her he could work alongside her but as an equal and had not intention of taking the ranch away from the Reed girls.

I think this book brought out some answers to the mystery of why Two Willows kept coming under attack with only the first one seeming to be for a specific reason but not the other 3.

When Jed Henderson made an appearance and Lena asked him to give her away my tears started falling. This was a very emotional part in this book and I continued to cry through the Epilogue to the end.

The ending left me hanging since I know and totally understand that "The General has been hurt. He's coming home." could be interrupted 2 ways and having to wait until book 5 is out to find the answer to this question.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary ARC of this book and gave it 5 stars.

Thank you Cora and I'm anxiously waiting for #5 to be published.

Thank you very much for this ARC!

This is the 4th book in the entertaining Issued to a Bride series.

The five Reed sisters have always lived in Two Willow ranch with their beloved mother who passed when they were teenagers.
Their father, the General, unable to cope with the loss of his wife, never visited the ranch again.
The sisters spent the next eleven years trying to shake off every restriction the General put on them from afar, including the men he had sent to run the cattle operation on his wife’s ranch and the women he had sent to finish raising them.
Now the sisters are all grown up and the General still wants to control and protect them.
To this end, he created a special cross- branch task force of five carefully selected men and he is, surreptitiously and successfully, sending them to marry his daughters,

During Sadie marriage, Logan, a Marine, arrives at Two willows to marry Lena.

I really liked this two characters.
Lena loves ranching and she is competent in her work. She felt underestimated by the General all the time and, therefore, she thinks every man underestimates her. She doesn’t want a husband who might try to control her. But Logan, who at first may seem superficial and arrogant, is a very sensitive man. His Christian parents asked him insistently, to become a priest like his brothers before him, so he knows everything about what it means to be a disappointment to those you love and to fight against them to control your life.
He understands Lena perfectly. I like very much the lightness and laughter he brings in Lena’s life.

I particularly enjoyed this book more humorous approach
to the love story.

ARC for honest review with no compensation

The continuing saga of the Brides of Chance Creek, Book 4 by Cora Seton and what a way to continue this series as the men keep coming to Two Willows! ! !

This story is about Lena Reed and Logan Hughes and of course, the General August Reed and along with the letters from his deceased wife. When the General reads the letters he chooses another man from his unit which he has handpicked to marry each of his daughters and keep them safe from harm and to make Two Willows (the ranch) prosper.

Lena is a strong, independent, beautiful, take charge kind of woman who is determined to not marry any man her father sends to the ranch. She strongly believes that all the men (her sister’s husbands) and the man sent to marry her want is to take the ranch and prove she is not capable of running the ranch because she is a woman and she believes that’s what the General thinks to since he keeps sending another man…and she will do whatever she must in order for that not to happen.

Logan Hughes is a Marine, strong, built like a bull, sexy and has a heart of gold. He is determined to marry Lena but he must prove to her that the men are there to help her protect Two Willows not take the ranch from her and she is more than capable of being the overseer of the ranch.

But as usual something always happens to put everyone in danger…being twins Ray and Harley and an uncle who are determined to destroy everyone on the ranch. Can Lena and Logan figure out that they truly belong together and come together to save the ranch from another attack and find their own HEA like her other sisters or will she finally force Logan to leave and all will fall apart at the ranch??

Lots of sexy banter, sword fight, two strong willed people, spiritual magic and finding love when you least expect it. Once you start this book you won’t be able to put it down until the last word is read…..can’t wait for the next book in this series.
