Texting the Rugby Player

Rate this book
Mae Nolan is existing in Australia; that’s the only way to put it. She arrived with her ex-boyfriend, who promptly cheated on her, and ever since then she’s been too embarrassed to go home and face the family who warned her against him. Now all she does is work long hours, save her money, and avoid anything to do with the opposite sex.

She’s just not interested.

Until one night she comes across a passed-out girl, Ciara, and ends up taking a phone call from her very irate brother. Her brother, Jack, is rude, snappy, and abrupt, but when Mae and Ciara become friends and Jack continues to text her, she starts to see the real him. Somehow she ends up looking forward to their chats and starts revealing more and more of herself to him.

It's a relief to talk to someone, and he feels safe because he's on the other side of the world and she knows she’ll never see him.

Then he comes to Australia.

And she finds out he’s an international rugby star.

And he wants to meet up.

None of this was part of her plan, and she definitely wasn’t expecting what comes next.

Ariya Cox was born and raised in the UK. She loves to travel extensively and this book was written in Latin America. Scenes throughout the book were written in Chile, Argentina, Peru, Mexico and Colombia. She’d probably write a lot quicker if she wasn’t constantly exploring but she has no plans to change that any time soon.

Of course she’s also been to Australia a number of times and spent time on the East Coast in her early 20’s working in bars and cafes and basically living the backpacking dream!

2.5 Stars.

This was a five star read up until the 80% mark, when the author decided to use the worst available scenario to lead to the needed conflict so we get to the HEA.

I abhor ex drama at the best of times, and this story really didn't need it to the degree the author decided to dump on it.

I would have loved a few chapters from Jack's POV as well, because he was absolutely adorable. I guess I'm spoiled now as most authors seem to do dual POV.

Well written, and I'd read more from the author, it's just a case of not balancing out the drama and angst, with the rest of the story line on this occasion.

I actually loved this book, atleast the first part. The characters were awesome and you couldn't but learn to love them. Jack was adorable, Ciara was someone I would want to hang with and Mae was someone I could relate to (especially with her her self-esteem issues). There were times i wanted to tell her to get over it and see what was before her, but I'm sure there are people out there who have been beaten lower than I have through their life. The story was cute and sweet and romantic and I absolutely loved it and the story of their falling for each other.

But, one thing I've learned through reading so many romance novels is that something jacked up always happens. And, 99% of the time, it's around the 80% mark on my kindle. I was prepared for it to take the 'hit's. But, this hit just pissed me off and made me hate the rest of it. I knew it would end up being an HEA. When it came to the end and it was time to wrap it in a nice little bow, though, it picked up speed and ended as soon as it could. The 'makeup scene' made me feel that the story would have ended better if Mae didn't get a HEA and Jack had just shit her the bird as he walked off into the sunset of his amazing life.

I did look forward to reading the other books of the series, because I loved the writing style and the flow of the book. But, since I'm already kind of annoyed, I would like to add that I will be POed if Ciara doesn't end up with Smithy! ;)

The first 30 chapters were pretty sweet & adorable, low angst story of Mae & Jack falling for each other.

They get their start as unexpected text buddies thanks to Mae coming to his little sister's rescue. She finds Ciara, Jack's sister, in a bad way shortly after clocking out one night at her job as a barmaid at an Irish pub in Australia. While trying to figure out what to do, she finds Jack blowing up his sister's phone trying to get answers & check up on her. Mae gives him what for thinking he is the one who left her in such a bad way, not knowing he was her brother & was halfway across the world in his home of Ireland. Once things get straighten with his sister, Jack finds himself looking for ways to continue to text Mae. It's not long before they find their rhythm & are texting daily, getting to know one another & confide in each other. Jack knows fairly quick he's smitten with her. For over a year now, Mae has still been attempting to mend a broken heart courtesy of her longtime ex-b/f yet finds herself enjoying their exchanges more & more. When they finally meet & a few misfires later along the way, they both find it impossible to resist each other.

And then,
description
I kid you not. I mean I f*cking kid you not! I wanted to throw my tablet at the wall after reading chapter 31 & the next few, I was so pissed. For some idiotic reason, an eleventh-hour twist kicks in. It was so unbelievably unnecessary & OTT. It makes no sense! All it accomplishes is making Mae look horrendously spineless, out of her mind & cruel. Jack is one of the sweetest, genuine good guy heroes I've read. He did not deserve what she did in the slightest. After that, in the real world, he'd never take her back nor should he.

TtRP went from an unexpected solid 4 star to I don't even know...I guess 2 stars to split the difference between 4 stars(chapters 1-30) & no stars(chapters 31-37). I am so disappointed in the author. It was such a lovely little story up until she decided to throw it all to hell.

Thought this book would be a fun read, unfortunately it was mostly an angst fest. Mae and Jack don’t actually meet up until over 50% of the book has gone by. Mae and Ciara, Jack’s younger sister have a better relationship in my opinion than Mae and Jack simply by the fact they spent a lot more time together and we got to see their relationship grow.

Mae is basically emotionally crippled and no longer believes in herself because of her ex. He cheated on her after they were together for 8 years and pretty much abandoned her once they came to Australia. She for some reason is still holding a torch for him. Unfortunately not only did he treat her like crap he also did the same to her family. Due to this she keeps all males at arms length.

Her rescue of Ciara from a night of over indulgence, has made her friend for life. Mae first met Jack on the phone as the belligerent older brother that wanted to know who was taking care of his sister. From there on they kept up their communication and began a quasi texting relationship.

Neither Ciara nor Jack let Mae in on the secret of who he really was, which allowed them to get to know each other without his fame mucking things up.

This book just kept piling on the angst, first with Mae not wanting anything to do with men, her still being trapped by the emotional dead weight from her ex, finally meeting Jack, to then continually running away from Jack, a busy body woman who wanted Jack, that was providing the other ugly part to keep Mae locked in her emotional black hole, reconnecting with her ex, finally getting the backbone to dump her ex and believe in herself, after all of that finally deciding that Jack was the one for her. To bad once they finally got past all of Mae’s defenses it felt so flat and I didn’t feel the chemistry between them at all. For me the payout just really didn’t balance out the repetitiveness and at times very boring nature of the story.

I received an advanced reader copy and I am leaving a voluntary review.

Skimmed about 50%...
Kinda liked the first 20%, but the h lack of self esteem annoyed me...
The h ex-boyfriend cheated on her twice, left her by herself all away across the world and she still confessed to the H that she still loves the ex, and actually get back with the ex after 2 years apart.

The H should send her to her merry way after she realized that the ex was always a Jerk....

4.5 stars.

I am going to start my review with a plea to Ariya Cox - please write an extension to this, a novella, anything to continue Mae and Jack's story, I got to the end and I really wasn't ready for their story to stop! Pretty please?

Once I started reading this book I just couldn't put it down. I enjoyed the flow of the story and loved how Mae and Jack met and really enjoyed seeing them build a relationship over time, all without actually meeting. I liked seeing Mae's character develop as the damage done to her before was slowly being undone. I didn't always gets her reasoning for things but could see it was related to her past. There was a point in the story where I was like NO!!!!!! and a bit angry with what happened, but I can see why it happened, even if I didn't like it.

I really enjoyed seeing Mae and Jack's relationship develop, their banter, connection and chemistry. They both had insecurities they needed to work through and my only criticism of Jack is that in my opinion he assumed too much when if he'd checked understanding or honestly said what he thought or felt, things would have worked out better at times for him. He was a lovely character though, sigh.

This is a new author for me and I really want to read the rest in this series as there are so many characters I would like to have their own story. I am voluntarily leaving this honest review after receiving an ARC.

"What took you so long?"

Okay, okay, before I start, I must say - I really enjoyed the writing style used in this book. It was a very easy read, and I managed to devour this book in a matter of couple of hours today. I could relate with relationships between most of the characters, especially Ciara and Mae.

And yes, I can't wait for Ciara's book to come out.

Mae came to Australia with her then boyfriend, only for him to break her heart, and make her start questioning everything about herself. Her confidence was shaken, and even after months and months of that breakup, she still couldn't shake the feeling off, which in return left her behaving quite standoffish towards all of the guys she came in contact with.

I loved Jack, I truly did, but I felt that his character wasn't developed enough throughout the book. He seemed like an easy going guy, mostly misunderstood due to his career, but I was just missing something. I unfortunately didn't have "OH MY GOD" moment throughout the book, and had a feeling that Mae and Ciara had way better development through their relationship, than Mae and Jack.

It might be due to the fact that throughout the first part of the book, two of them don't even know each other personally, and are in contact solely by messages, and occasional call. With all of that, I just have a feeling that we didn't have time to see that whole relationship blossom, and I was left craving for more of them.

Mae, oh our beautiful Mae. I loved her in the beginning, I truly did. I found her refreshingly real, openly telling us how she feels, and living in denial - what most of us are doing after our hearts have been broken. But, but, but... Mae disappointed me in the second part of the book, and I was so annoyed by some of her thoughts that I wanted to cry to the point. I don't want to spoil the book for anyone, but, I kind of expected more from her when certain things re-appeared.

It might have something to do with the fact, that I generally love strong female characters, the ones where even in the whole mess of situation, they think rationally and take all of the facts into consideration. Don't take me wrong - she definitely redeemed herself in the end, but those pages were slightly painful for me to read.

All in all, I believe that this book deserves a chance, and with it being debut novel from the Author, I am sure that the next ones are going to exceed our expectations much, much further. If you are looking for an easy read, something sweet, I would definitely recommend this book to you.

I would also like to thank the author and Hidden Gems for providing me with an ARC copy for this review.

I received an arc copy but I also bought it thru Kindle Unlimited and read the KU copy as the arc arrived on the late side.

This is a brand new author and it appears to be her debut book. Its written pretty well and I did not see any spelling errors. It takes place in Australia and all the characters are from England or Ireland. In this story we only see the heroine's voice, Mae, we never hear from Jack or his sisters side of things.

The first part of the story featuring the texting was wonderful. I loved the story and how Jack and his sister and Mae meet and get to know each other. The only thing that did not make sense in this part of the story is that Jack has his sister move in and live with a friend of his but when Mae first talks with him, he claims to not know where the friend, Phoebe lives. Yet she is supposedly a friend of his watching out for his sister.

The 2nd part of the story is when Mae and Jack meet. Usually everyone loves meeting after a text relationship but Mae is very resistant to anything with Jack and so her reaction was a little strange. This is when I felt the story goes off the rails and why its 3 stars or less. She does something awful to Jack and truly to herself as well. And I did not understand it at all. She does grow a brain but it takes her a few weeks to get there and when she sees Jack again, I felt the story just abruptly ends. The ending was super disapointing. I wanted some sort of epilogue or seeing them together finally and I just hated the way it ends.

Mae throughout this story seemed extremely immature. Her ex cheats on her twice and not just a bad decision but he cheats on her for weeks and she still says I love him and if he said I am sorry I would take him back. I felt she ran away from things way too easy and her attutude with the ex was just not how a 28 year old would act and was more like a silly 18 year old.

Jack was awesome. I felt her deserved a whole lot better than Mae and that he was always giving to Mae and she was never really there for him as he was there for her. I did not like how he kept secrets from her and how she was told that info but I felt her reaction was on the strange side and not how a 28 year old would react. I did miss hearing Jack's side of things as this was just Mae's viewpoint.

That said for a debut book it was written extremely well. I loved how Mae and Jack meet over the phone and I loved getting to spend time with Mae in Australia. The texting relationship was also really wonderful.

I thought this book was going to kill me. Mae was so frustrating sometimes that I had to stop reading and get a hold of myself. I know that her ex boyfriend was a terrible person who broke her heart and destroyed her self esteem, but the way she treated Jack wasn't great. He's so sweet and cares for her and just wants her to be happy. They made a good couple and had obvious chemistry, but she couldn't get over herself and Rich and ended up crushing Jack, similar to how Rich hurt her.

There were plenty of cute moments and I really enjoyed their texts back and forth. Ciara was my favorite character, she's so confident and a great friend to Mae. I would love a book about her finding love, maybe with Smithy? :)

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review

A first time novel and what a gem! I love this story so much. Jack and Mae begin texting when Mae helps his sister. Jack is in Ireland and Mae is in Australia. With the distance Mae feels comfortable enough to tell Jack things she's never told anyone. Love watching their relationship grow. Then they meet. Just a lovely book. Do not miss!

Ariya Cox did great job on this story. Texting the Rugby Player was a good story, the plot was written well. Mae and Jack didn't really start out on the good foot but they were drawn to each other. Their connection only grew strong, their chemistry was sexy. they were great together.
I enjoyed this story, it was great. Thanks, Ariya Cox. Great work :)

Overall I liked this book. Mae moves away to be with her boyfriend. He of course turns out to be a loser. One night she meets a woman and talks to her brother. They begin texting and falling for each other. Eventually they meet and she is surprised to see that he is a famous rugby player. Things were interesting but in the end they get their happy ending.

I loved the book until about 80% in. Was sure it was going to be 4/5 stars it was great.

Then 80% in and it spoiled the entire book for me I’m afraid. I understand there had to be conflict before the HEA but I didn’t think there was any need for her to get engaged to the ex and less than 24 hours after being with Jack?!

I was glad when she did stand up to Rich but I felt it was too late and it would’ve been better if she’d done that in Byron Bay and not left Jack like that. And as for finding herself and being happy alone I mean I get it and I understand it was thanks to Jack and Ciara she started living again but she had been on her own for 18 months prior.

Gutted because I was thoroughly enjoying the book and was excited to finish the book but I almost didn’t finish.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

Having been betrayed not once, but twice by her longtime boyfriend, Mae has basically sworn off men. Instead, she's been keeping herself busy working long shifts bartending. Except she 'accidentally' starts having a conversation (which becomes sort of a therapy session of sorts) by text with a stranger. Soon she finds she's starting to have feelings for the bloke. Of course one of the things she likes about their newfound 'friendship' is that he is a faceless stranger on the other side of the world. How will she handle it when he threatens to shatter that by coming to her? While a lot about him is a mystery (as this is strictly from her POV,) we, as readers, can figure out who he is, though, aside from the title of the book, it isn't exactly spelled out for us any earlier than it is for Mae. There are some other outside influences that help shape and mold their growing relationship, and threatens to squash anything before it even begins. The characters are fun (for the most part.) There are one or two 'evil villains' so it's not all sunshine and rainbows. Mae's character is likeable but her lack of self confidence made her thought process go wishy washy. One minute she was gun-ho about something, then the next she was shying away from it. This took away a little of her appeal, but she was still someone you wanted to root for and see happy. Jack (the secret Hero) had that quiet chivalry thing going for him. (Doing sweet things for her that she had no idea about.) This book is set in Australia and I believe the author is also Australian, so some of the language might throw you off if you are used to standard English. One example that happened quite frequently was lines like this... "Jack is sat on the bed with a tray..." Instead of 'Jack is sitting on the bed.' This also happened a lot with the word "Stood" instead of 'Standing.' I read an ARC of this book, and I don't know if those things were editing errors (that will be corrected before final copy) or if that is how Aussies speak, but those circumstances caused me to reread the line thinking I miss understood what was being said. Other than those types of things, it was a well told story.

*I received an ARC of this book.

Mae was in Austrailia for adventure with her then boyfriend until he cheated on her again. They have been together for close to 9 years and he decided to cheat on her twice. Now she is working 12 hour shifts at a bar trying to save enough money so when she goes back to UK, she could live in London.
End of her shift she finds one of her customer passed out on the street. She remembers serving her and she wanted to help her to get back to hotel safely. She was too drunk to respond back to her. Until her phone started to ring. She answers her phone and that's when she first talked to Jack.
Ever since that night, Ciara's (drunken customer) brother started texting her. Mae wasn't sure if she could open to anyone but she knew she won't never see him so she decided to keep the texting going and open up to him. More he called and texted Mae, they shared their daily lives and became closer friends. Jack's texts and occasional phone calls really made Mae really happy.
Everything was fun until Jack comes to Melbourne and wants to meet her. Mae thought Jack was a nutritionist for a team but Jack is very famous Irish Rugby player and he is recognized constantly. Plus he is tall and gorgeous. Mae never knew who he really was until he showed up at his bar with Ciara .
Mae didn't want to meet Jack and now he showed up and being really nice to her. She was never treated like this way from Rich.. It really confused her yet made her happy as well. Maybe she is ready to move on from Rich, her horrible ex-boyfriend. Jack is patiently waiting for Mae to take a next step with him.
Before Jack and Mae can even start something, they will face biggest problem when Rich shows up..
When she sees Rich and she doesn't know what to do. IT seems obvious for everyone who Mae should choose but Mae wasn't ready to let go yet.
Jack and Mae's texts were cute and I love their responses. Mae's hesitation really bothers but she had to make that decision to see if she could really get over. Jack is such a perfect boyfriend who is patient, caring and perfect listener plus doesn't hurt that he is an athlete and gorgeous. I enjoyed reading this book.. I will definitely would read the next one..

I'm not quite sure where to start with this one. On one hand I absolutely loved this book, but there were a couple of things that are just bothering the hell out of me.

First, I was able to instantly connect to the characters. I wanted to keep learning more and more about them. Jack is AMAZING, I don't think that there is anything that I don't like about him. Well, the only thing that bothered me when it comes to Jack is that I think he forgave Mae a little to easily. As far as Mae, I was totally loving her until the point she does what she did to Jack. Then I just wanted to smack the heck out of her for being so stupid. It's how she handles the situation that really bothered me. I guess a part of me understands why she did it, but it still had me calling her a few choice words. The supporting characters in the book were awesome and hopefully we will get to see a few of them with their own books.

The second thing that bothered me was the ending. I was all into the story and was like "awww this is great and I can't wait to see what happens" and then BOOM, it just ends!!!! There is a HEA, but what the heck?? I don't know, I guess I just had myself worked up more. I don't feel like I got complete closure with this book, and I need that.

Ok, so that was my little rant….now as far as the writing goes, I think Ariya Cox did a great job. The story flowed exceptionally well and I think that the building of the characters was wonderfully done. Obviously the story pulled me straight in and had me hooked. When I become so involved with the story and the characters that I am sitting there and speaking to or yelling at them, then I know that the author was able to write a story in a way that makes me feel like I'm there in the middle of it. But, I really can't get over that fact that I think it ended way to abruptly!!!

This is a book and author that I would absolutely recommend and would read more from. I will just have to hope that I will get the closure I need.

Loved it! Warm, tender, slow-burn romance😍
🌏💚📱🏉🌍
There are so many elements in this romance that made it a 🏁winner for me.

The texting, long-distance relationship building between barmaid Mae and her new friend's brother Jack was lovely, especially their growing trust and ability to share thoughts and feelings locked away from most others. The big surprise meeting between Jack and Mae was great and the resolution of Mae's feelings about controlling cheater Rich added some angst, drama and sweet retribution.

And I love a story set in Australia, city or country! The English/Irish connection was an added bonus. I haven't watched much rugby since years ago when I lived in New Zealand but I could identify with the fan excitement and the story did not dwell too heavily on the sports play itself. Plus, I am glad author Ariya Cox did not fill the dialogue with a load of Australian or Irish colloquial slang; for me, too much heavy dialect weighs down the story as I attempt to translate (which was not an issue here).

🌍🌏The slow-burn thanks to the oceans dividing the couple was realistic and kept me hooked, and I think I have to join the ranks of Jack's fans😍. He's such a likable, unpretentious guy and a total contrast in the way he acts with Rich.

I really can't think of a thing I did not like about this story. This is an author I would definitely look for in the future. My hearty recommendation👍👍

I read a complimentary advance copy of the book but I think I will have to buy it and added it to my collection! This is my voluntary and honest review and the opinions expressed are my own.

I'm giving this read 4 to 4.5 stars, I found it entertaining, frustrating and ugh! I've never wanted to knock some sense into the heroine like I wanted to to Mae. Mae has been living in Australia for about two years after coming with the love of her life from UK, only to be cheated on and split, so she's working her tail off to gain a nest egg to live off of when she goes back to the UK. Minding her own business she stumbles upon a over partied girl in the back alley, Mae being the sweet generous person can't leave her in that state, chooses to help. After a bit back and forth, misunderstanding Mae finds herself texting with her new friend's brother. Jack is a celebrity, known for his rugby skills, it's refreshing to communicate with someone that has no clue who he is. Becoming texting friends is one thing but meeting face to face, that's Mae's no ready for, especially when the brother turns out to be a sexy rugby player and she's just a girl next door that works in a bar. Mae has a lot of hangs, mostly doing with her ex and is uncertain of her place with Jack, not to mention she's pretty obtuse to flirting from any guys but it really becomes frustrating when her bad penny of an ex pops up, let me tell you the way the book was going had me wanting to throw my kindle! But in the end I did enjoy the result and look forward to reading more about the other characters in the book.

I believe this is Ariya Cox's debut book and I was impressed and surprised it was her first.

The story is a bit of a slow burn with Jack and Mae meeting over text message after she helps his sister. They continue texting and occasionally talking on the phone. It was easy for Mae because she was in Australia and he was in Ireland. Everything changes, though, when he comes to Australia and she realizes he is a famous rugby player.

Jack is 100% book boyfriend material. He is kind, patient, and thoughtful. Mae struggles with still being heartbroken over her ex and suffers from a huge lack of confidence. I did get a little frustrated with that and a couple of her actions, but, honestly, I could see someone acting that way. People don't always make the best decisions or believe in themselves and others when they have been badly hurt. I really liked how Jack put Mae first and truly cared for her. They were sweet together.

A whole cast of secondary characters were introduced as well and I am especially looking forward to Jack's sister Ciara's story.

Thank you to the author for providing an ARC for an honest review.

**My thanks to the author and Hidden Gems for providing me with a free copy for an honest review**

I really enjoyed this story, the only part that put me off was right at the end where she loses her way and even more of her confidence when her ex boyfriend comes back on the scene.

Mae has not really moved on from her ex-boyfriend even after 16-18 months. She would take him back in an instant even though her has hurt her heart twice already and is an emotional bully. She is not as strong a character as i would have liked. She is a bit of a walk over.

Jack is a lovely man and comes across as really caring and nice. I would certainly love a man like that in my life.

This is a new to me author and i really enjoyed her writing style. Just hope that in the next book that i read of hers, the woman has more of a backbone.

It would also have been nice to have an epilogue a year or so down the line, although it was nice to be able to download the extra read to a situation from Jacks point of view.

Even though there were some editing issues (typos and such) throughout this book, I was enjoying this story. Mae, admittedly, was a pushover. And was still pining after the guy who cheated on her, not once, but twice.

Then she "meets" Jack after helping his sister Ciara. He's a bit of a jerk when she first encounters him, but that's only because he is worried about his little sister.

They eventually start texting, hence the title, and become friends (and maybe a little bit more).

Mae is finally coming out of this funk she's allowed herself to be after her breaking up with her douche of an ex.

They finally meet and that chemistry they had over text is still there, but then that thing that happens in most romances happen close to the end of the story. If you read romance you expect the misunderstanding that is almost inevitable.

The thing about this one is it made all of Mae's progress look like a big freaking joke and made me lose all respect for her as a character.

I still loved Jack though. From beginning to end.

I enjoyed this book for the most part.

I loved Jack. He's the boyfriend that anyone would want. He was supportive, sweet and loving - everything that Mae had never had in her ex. I like the ways he devised to talk to Mae & get her attention without flaunting his celebrity status.

Mae is a heroine I understood. I understood her hesitancy as well as her reasons for making some of the choices she did. I wanted to shake her, but I totally could relate. She was honest with Jack about her feelings, and that took a special sort of bravery. I liked that, too, she didn't let the opportunity to finally stand up for herself slip away when she got it.

I enjoyed the way the author developed Jack & Mae's relationship from that of strangers to persons in love. I only disliked that the ending sort of felt a bit rushed. Overall, though, it was enjoyable.

I look forward to more from Ariya Cox - I especially want to read Ciara's story.

I voluntarily read & reviewed an ARC of this book.

First, I have to start by saying this book annoyed the crap out of me at times. Mae makes some horrible life decisions and I wish there was a whole section of this book that could be taken out. It was so unnecessary and infuriating! I won’t go into details and spoil it, but ugh! This book would have been rated higher if it wasn’t for that particular part of it. I am glad the book had a HEA, but I almost wish it hadn’t because I was so angry at the main character. However, it was clear that Mae was in an emotionally abusive relationship before this book takes place, and her behaviors could have been logically explained due to this. With that said, the rest of the book was super cute and unique. I enjoyed the text conversations and the slowly developed relationship. Overall, it was a good book, I just have an extreme annoyance when lead females let men walk all over them again and again.

I LOVE meet by text books and this one was fantastic. A heart broken woman who ends up texting the older brother of a woman she helps out. They continue to text and get to know one another and then they finally meet.

Jack was everything! Omg, a gorgeous rich rugby player with a heart of gold. Mae was such a wonderful woman who had been so emotionally manipulated by her ex for so long that she could never think a man like Jack could really want her. Everything that occurred between them was sweet, steamy and then so heartbreaking.

I loved the story and how everything played out. Ariya made it really realistic and I liked that Mae had to take the time she needed for herself to grow as a person. Overall I loved this book so much!

And make sure you get the bonus chapter from Jacks POV. It had me in tears!!

Mae left to Australia two years ago with her boyfriend but then he cheated on her for the second time and she left him. Now she works in a bar still in Australia. One night after closing she finds a young woman Ciara drunk and she wants to help her. She talks to Ciara’s brother jack and decides to take her home with her. That is the beginning of a great friendship and also the beginning of a friendship between jack and her over sms. After a while jack is suddenly in Australia and it turns out that he is jack Conner a famous rugby player. The chemistry between the two of them is strong and jack is crazy about her. But then Mae’s ex is back and wants her back. What is she going to do? I really loved this book. The relationships between Rae and jack is so special. I couldn’t put it down and I was so sad when it was done. I really loved it

Enjoy the first 31 chapters of the reading.
Although Mae did not stand out for her great personality, all those chapters were interesting seeing how two people approached the old way, without social networks.
Jack is a sweet, patient, understanding and very detailed character, things that Mae did not appreciate from the beginning.
I do not understand how the author did not find another way of disagreement that was not to turn Mae into a pathetic, dependent and immature woman. This book does not give a good place to women subjected to a certain type of manipulation that does not amount to abuse.
I highlight in the last chapter the reasons found for Mae's delay, only that I would have liked another way for it.
I don't think Mae deserved that ending and I'm still trying to understand why Jack fell in love so hard.

Okay so first off I have to say I really loved this book. It’s interesting and addictive. And it’s definitely a story I haven’t read before. The plot is unique which I loved. But that being said I hated the main female character. She is so hung up on her ex, it’s hard to even imagine still loving someone who treated her so badly. And a lot of her actions in this book makes me just shake my head. I loved the male lead though so I could t help but read and finish it. I was a great story. I also wish we got more at the end. I kind of felt like the book ended too soon. I’m hoping maybe we will get more books from this universe.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Enjoyable read

I loved the idea of how these characters meet! I didn’t love the extremely unconfident heroine. She was a great character, she had been hurt, and yes that explains her hesitation, but it went a little overboard sometimes. Jack is fantastic, hard not to love his character. The idea of Rich is just ick. I wish he would’ve been more ick to her as well and there was a different twist, because I just had a hard time with that one. Phoebe was a great opportunity for some character angst fun, but not fully taken advantage of. Overall cute story, ok for a poolside read, just didn’t quite knock my socks off. However...I really feel a set up for Smithy & Ciara, their story can have some fun!

Ok so for about 80% of this book I was head over heels in love with everything about it and then we get to the climax of the book and I was figuratively emotionally gut-punched up until the literal end of the book...
I mean I wanted to slap Mae over the head so many times it was ridiculous! I was so frustrated with her and how long it was taking her to get her act together I thought about dnfing the book then and there but I could lose hope with how much I loved the beginning of this book...
I definitely need an epilogue or a chill pill or at least a fun little bonus scene to make this happy ending just a little longer than the last fucking 3% of the book!
