Right from the start, Author K. Brooks’ occult horror novel, “The Spark That Left Us”, will keep you on the edge of your seat as one “OMG!” moment after another shakes you to your core! Brilliantly imaginative, profoundly nerve-wracking, and intensely shocking, THIS is the stuff that fills terror fans’ wildest dreams as three adult siblings, and a man plagued by his past, share a dark legacy that will lead them all back to a soul-less monster that—at all costs—must be defeated.

Brooks sets up a world that seems to simultaneously exist in two separate yet united dimensions—the world of the living and the world of … something else. She masterfully orchestrates what, at first glance, appears to be a chance meeting into a dire life-and-death quest to save a pair of lost souls. Elder sister Adeline wants nothing more than to take care of her carefree and irresponsible younger sibling, Clara, when mystery man, Deke, causes all hell to rain down on her boring suburban life. With supernatural creatures—the likes of which you have never encountered before—begin to pursue our three protagonists, they take to the road with the aim of finding long-lost brother, Reggie (Addie’s twin), and are thrown into a chaotic journey where mayhem, death, and the kind of horror you just can’t look away from rule the road. Brooks sets us all barreling down the path to Hell and the tension is palpable, the trials and tribulations are heart wrenching, and the torture endured by our trio is glorious.

Brook’s novel is not for the faint of heart, but the depth of the story, the innovative means by which the characters strive so very hard to survive, and the twists and turns that leave readers of this amazing fable shrieking in fear makes it a standout in the Occult Horror and Paranormal genres. Brooks definitively earns my respect! Read this novel and you will see how a true Master of Horror can mess up your mind in less than 500 pages! It’s electric!

When this book was recommended to me, it was the premise that drew me in even before I even opened the book; and once I started, it was very hard to put this book down.

This book is about Addy, her sister Clara, and a strange man that would forever change Addy's life. The Spark That Left Us is full of twists and turns that keep any reader engaged. The plot has something for everyone; life, death, family secrets, romance, mistakes and regrets – a concoction of events that will keep you turning the page.

This book is full of light, electricity and of course, sparks.

I highly recommend this book to anyone seeking a thrill of a read and who enjoys light fantasy – I’m not a huge fantasy fan but this books was in a league of its own.

The synopsis of this book had me intrigued right from the start, and I am a tough sell of books, I find one I like and that's about it. I also really really enjoy sleep, and I spent many a night reading this book into the wee hours. If that doesn't speak to how awesome this book is, I don't know what will.

After being introduced to the stranger that wakes up on her couch in a blaze of action, Addy realizes that everything she thought she knew about the world, her world, was wrong.

The stranger, Deke, didn't mean to get Addaline byrnes caught up in his troubles. He only meant to rest for a few hours and then be on his way. But when he wakes up with the morning light shining through the window, still in the house he meant to have already left behind, he finds himself, and this innocent woman, trapped by the creatures he was running from. Quickly Deke tries to explain to Addy what's happening, who's after him, and how much danger they're now in together.

Soon Deke and Addy understand what they have to do. Along with Addy's little sister Clara, they embark on a cross-country race against time to get to their wayward brother Reggie, whom they think holds some answers as to what's happening to them all.

The Spark that Left Us is an action-packed thrill, I found it exciting and full of twists and turns that I enjoyed every time another was thrown at me. Along with the action, the author K. Brooks entwined a story of broken families fighting for each other, and a ragtag crew of people learning just how far they are willing to go for love. With strong, well thought out storylines, and great execution with it, The Spark That Left Us is a fantastic read.

I was given a copy of this book by it's amazing author in exchange for my honest review
