Callie and Alex were in love... Until they weren't.
Six months ago Alex broke my heart. Giving me no explanations, he kicked me out of his life. I hoped I would never have to see him again, but now he's back, standing on my doorstep telling me I owe him and that he's come to collect. I should hate him after what he did to me, but I don't.
M.J. Perry is a mother of two, and wife to her very own prince charming. Her favourite things include coffee, chocolate, pizza, and anything Disney. She's an avid reader of romance books and a sucker for a happy ending, which is the reason why she started writing her own stories.
I could’ve really liked this one if it hadn’t been for the fact that the heroine was absolutely spineless!!! He is the one that messed up by believing lies about her. He comes back, blackmails her and then he says he finally believes her and she’s all “ oh thank God”? Really?
Its a modern setting for a Mills and Boon type book. The hero is quick to judge and treats the heroine unfairly and then blackmails her, still treating her badly. But he is quick to forgive as he realizes he is wrong. The forgiveness on his part was a bit quick considering how long he'd been mad at her and she forgives him straight away just grateful he believes her and wants to try again, this is where she should have held her ground. If someone can treat a person so badly when they are mad and hurt by them doesn't this reveal a part of the person that is worrisome. Surely it is a huge personality flaw to be that cruel, do they treat others that way? Would you really want to be with someone like that?
The rest of the story is catching the person meddling with their lives. Its not a deep story but there are places for books like this as long as you take it for what it is.
Blackmailing His Love, Book 1 of the His Love series, was about 26-year-old Callie Michaels, an artist, and 34-year-old Alex Smith, owner of a finance company.
Six months before the book began, Callie and Alex had been in a relationship for four months...until he kicked her out without an explanation. Six months later, at the opening of the book, he turned up at her home to blackmail her into marrying him with the knowledge it would be ended in three months by a divorce. He informed her that if she didn't marry him, he would ruin her and Jon, her "art gallery friend". It was then that he told her that if she had loved him, she wouldn't have cheated and that he knew for a fact she had, even though she denied it.
This book had plenty of angst, drama, and just enough spice to keep it interesting. However, it lacked the depth, grit, and length to make it pop. The main characters, while both were mature, were more one-dimensional than well-developed. They both needed to be fleshed out more than they were. The FMC forgave the MMC too quickly, and the conflict between them was resolved way too quickly. It would have been much better if the book had been longer and given more opportunity to play out the plot to its fullest, but the whole storyline was over almost before it began. I mean, the entire book took place in a matter of days rather than weeks, months, or years. That didn't leave room for any growth or groveling...and there needed to be both.
It was a decent enough story, so I gave it a two-and-a-half star rating, rounded up to three. I would have enjoyed it more if it had more meat to it, but since it was just a bare-bones story, it just didn't earn any higher rating. I hope the rest of the books fare better.
This is the second book I've read by M.J Perry and it's obvious that she has a natural talent for creating climactic, entertaining plots that draw readers in.
Her style of writing in Blackmailing His Love puts the reader right there among the characters, bringing to life a very moving, emotional tale about heartbreak and finally love!
I was able to feel the love, passion and intense chemistry between Callie and Alex. Quite a few times I even felt butterflies inside as I read some of the scenes.
Readers are definitely not going to be disappointed. The love expressed was very captivating, the passion quite steamy and the dramatic plot very intriguing.
This story wasn't horrible. It read exactly like a Harlequin, but not really that great of a Harlequin type of story. It started out strong and angsty, but quickly turned into a boring trope. The reason for the Hero's hate and breakup with his woman, wasn't enough to keep him from forgiving her super quickly. The person behind the shenanigans was easily solved by both heroine and hero, and the ending was WAY too easy. This story was a bit drawn out too. It could have been resolved in half the page count, but a lot of that was filled in with sex filler. I'd give this author a go again though. Her storytelling was decent and the writing was tight. She's got more stories out there to try, so I'll pick them up and see if they are any better for me than this one was.
Things were great between Callie and Alex until someone sent him a picture of what appeared to be Callie in someone else's arms. He kicked her out immediately. She was the only one he had ever let into his heart. She had been a virgin and 28. Three months later he blackmails her into marriage. But deep down it is what he really wanted...Callie all for himself. A small part of him also wanted revenge. The threats to try to break them up continue even after they are married. The way they handle it shows the deep love they feel for each other.

Callie and Alex were perfectly happy until he suddenly threw her out without explanation. Months later he comes strolling back into her life demanding she marry him or else. Their chemistry is still off the charts hot, but the look in his eyes... Someone is out to break them up. Someone from him past that doesn't have any problem bending the truth... Is Callie safe? Does he even care?
Steamy scenes make this an over age 18 book. A typo or two made it past the editors. It's fast paced, but not nearly as fast as book 2. I chose to read 2 before 1, it can be done without issue, but don't read the others out of order.
The book was okay although I felt like the writing overall was a bit sophomoric. I really didn’t like from the get go how quick to judge the hero was. Everything worked out in the end but I guess I just could never get over how much he over reacted to such a small amount of “evidence” of an affair from the heroine!

It was good …especially the first few chapters, but then the author decided to rush and tie everything up too quickly. Alex should have apologized or done more acts of love or something before Callie started hoping for more and being happy. I like that the author didn’t overdo Callie, but I wish she had halfway through the book stood up for herself a bit or at least had had Alex making a lot more amends before they started being in love.
Great Read! First by this author and I liked how it kept me intrigued with lots of angst filled drama that at times was a bit hard to put down. The storyline flowed well with an edgy feel at times I found it predictable but over all I enjoyed it. Heartfelt, hot chemistry, angst and a sweet ending. A great read that I enjoyed and would look forward to reading more of this authors books.
Author has created characters that pull you into their lives and keep you there. Callie and Alex were in love and an enemy was able to tear them apart. Alex uses everything in his arsenal to get Callie back in order to punish her, but is that really what he wants to do?

Who blackmails someone they love? As soon as I saw the title I knew I had to read the book come on who blackmails someone they love! Anyway that is what Alex does and all because of bad information and he wants to punish Callie. This was an entertaining plot that draws readers in and I enjoyed reading it. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
A quick enjoyable read. I felt that the author had the ability to convey some depth to the personalities of the characters bringing a greater sense of reality to her story. The writing draws you in and keeps you interested until the end. I received a free copy of this book. This review was posted voluntarily.

I absolutely hated the heroine. She doesn’t have a personality. Like literally a guy left and came back, and you’re like thank god he came back?!?! Like where’s your self respect girl? This is so dumb! And the dude is like too damn easy to manipulate. The relationship had a weak foundation. No chemistry at all.
This book is a sweet read, took me back to the Mills and Boon romance books, where hero meets heroine, they argue, part, meet up again and fall in love. A sweet and easy romance to read.

I loved how the book played out. It is not sweet, but a great read. The characters were well developed and I am looking forward to other work by the author.

Blackmailing his Love is the first book in the His Love series. There is a lot of drama and heartbreak in this book but a total lack of trust and communication. This story also had love, intrigue, and steamy romance. I read and reviewed this book with no obligation.
WARNING: do not read this book…it is a complete waste of time and brain cells. I am never harsh with my reviews because even of I find like a book I still don’t want the author to feel BAD because of my review, but I was questioning my own sanity because I read 70%of this book before DNFing it🤨🤨🤨🤨
This book honestly isn't worth the read. The entire book is just nonsense. The female lead just takes all the abuse. Can't stand up for herself and just accepts the male leads crappy behavior. This book is just a dumpster fire.
This was an ok read. I didn’t much care for Alex. He was a jerk and really judgmental. Callie was a doormat. She forgave him way too fast. She should have made him work harder.
