Under the guidance of the mythological gods, Jace must travel to Sarkonian territory in search of a woman he has never met. She holds the key to unlocking the Gate of Eternity, and with it, a weapon that may end the Celestials war against humanity.
But nothing comes easy in a galaxy under siege.
Even with the Alliance behind him, Jace and the crew have their work cut out for them. There are secrets still left to uncover, and the next battle could change everything.
With the Celestials hot on their trail, the Alliance is following bread crumbs to a powerful weapon that will change the course of the war. Jace has been forever changed by precursor technology and is the sole operator of the key which opens the Gate of Eternity. The entire galaxy is counting on Jace to activate the weapon and decide the fate of humanity.
I enjoyed the plot points and where the story went in this edition, but this was also the book in the series that frustrated me the most. There were multiple scenes where the crew was on the clock and time was of the essence, then the scientists wanted to take a step back and research or test something that did not do any good other than slow down progress. As the reader, you felt the urgency for the inevitable to take place, but the story was put on hold and filled in with training, simulations and, commander check-ins that felt unnecessary at this point in the story.
First of all I've read all the books in this series and absolutely love them. Beautifully balanced action and story development. Until now.
Jace, while being a very loveable and yet eyeroll inducing character most of the time has taken a turn for the worst in this book. His decisions are laughably dumb and frustrating. While I understand the author focuses more on action and battle oriented writing, I find that Jace could be evolving by now. If only slightly.
The lack of forethought and apprehension was explainable when he had no footing, and although he does have a home base now, he still is "running" to a certain degree given the constant strife. One has to wonder though, when would it be appropriate for him to act with a little more finesse?
A super weapon to defeat the Celestials? Yes please!
The precursors communicate with Jace telling him he needs a key to open the Gate to Heaven, where he will find the ultimate weapon. At the same time he is changed slightly allowing him to find the key and activate it. Now they just need to find the Gate. However, the Celestials are spying on them and know their plans and destination. Can Jace get their first and find the weapon? Will it work? Will that be the end? Or will there be one more last ditch attempt required to defeat the Celestials? Only time (and the next book) will tell....
WOW... always something new and different happening here! I was sorry to finish this book because I know there is only 1 more in this series and I started it immediately... Now I'm reading #16 and trying to slow my roll. I just don't want this series to end. After 16 books, these characters feel like old friends or family even! I hope Chaney will continue to have some of them show up in other series...
Wow again! It’s been a long and exciting journey reading these books. With one last book that due out in September that promises to tied everything together while hinting at pulling in other know characters from the author’s other series; now that should be a jaw dropper! Eagerly looking forward to September!
Well, it looks as though the end is nigh! Jace and his Alliance are looking for the Key that will give them a weapon to fight the Celestials. But the Celestials have found out their plans and they are now in a race against time. This series continues to entertain and I look forward to the next book, especially with the hint at the end!
Been a while since book 14 but Renegade War was worth the wait. Jace and crew look for a weapon to help in the war against the Celestials. But the Celestial forces show up before they can get the weapon operational. If the Alliance forces are defeated the Celestials will exterminate humankind.
The final battle to defeat the Celestials is coming. Earth's survival as well as the other nation in the realms of space will either conquer or perish. Outlaws and renegades will be asked to join the the final battle. An excellent read!! Enjoyed immensely!!
I can't stop reading this series! I am involved with each character - good or bad. Each chapter keeps me wondering what will happen . Will the Celestial s win? Will Jace, Abby and Lex stay together? Will all of humanity be able to set aside their differences for the sake of all?
Jace is all over the place in this book, which features the first outright war with the Celestials. The Renegades win this one using a HUGE Slipstream targeted at the Celestial fleet that consumes them all. Problem is, this was only half of the Celestials, and the rest are heading toward Earth. That will be the final book in the series.
Well once again you have produced a cracking story and once again I have not been able to put it down.. As usual plenty of banter and action.. I don't know why but I have a feeling Lexus is going to be pinnacle in the end...
Another great chapter in the series. Things are headed towards an epic finale. Major props to JC for managing to keep things fresh and interesting all this time.
If you haven’t read this series you need to. The worlds he describes just sucks you in. I love the under dog. I have one more book to read and then I move on to the rest of the Renegade universe. Thanks for your imagination Wendy
An explosive second to last book in the Renegade Star series! Won’t spoil it, but tensions are higher than ever as things come to a head. One more to go!
I read much of the story but there was so much dependent on previous books i didn't read that i couldn't finish it and 18+ books in a sorry it's more than i want to invest my time on.
