I'm really struggling to read anything that isn't light and feel good at the moment, so thought I'd take the opportunity to read Moody's first book as I've enjoyed all of her others so far.

Happy to say I enjoyed this one too. It has some of the hallmarks of a new author that don't appear in her later work, but the story is enjoyable and a good read.

I liked both Alex and Riley and their romance, I also enjoyed that any conflict that appears is caused by outside factors and not by some unnecessary conflict between either of them. It deals with a difficult topic in one of their pasts, and I thought it was done really well.

Would recommend to sapphic romance fans, and as it's set in the Virgin Islands it has a real 'get-away' feeling to it as well.

Alex Adams is living a quiet and content life on St. John, one of the U.S. Virgin Islands. Her past is in the past (mostly), and her future sounds a lot like her present: work at the bar she co-owns and enjoy the friendship of her co-owner Liz. When Riley James, a newly retired teacher, enters the bar as part of a wedding party, both her life and Alex’s are turned upside down.

The chemistry between Alex and Riley is huge. It’s lust at first sight, and while neither woman is the one-night-stand type (Alex a tad more than Riley), they don’t want to resist. That irresistibility leads to highly hot sex, and steamy scenes that get better and better as the story moves along.

Without drowning the reader in descriptions, Moody gives an exciting feel of the heavenly scenery and makes it easy to imagine being on St. John with her characters. Riley and Alex are really sweet and you can’t help but want them to be happy. Bonus points for creating characters in their late forties. It’s nice to read stories about people who are not all spring chickens.

I also loved Riley’s best friend Kara and Alex’s family. For some reason, the author gave many of her characters first names that start with a K (besides Kara and the two brides, both Alex’s brothers have names beginning with K and they’re married to women whose both names start with J). It’s neither a weakness nor a strength, just strange.

As debut novels go, this is pretty good. The big reveal takes a little too long to occur, overshadowing the romance a bit. The writing is clumsy at times, with repetitions which make the book feel longer than it is, and a few instances of telling too much and not showing enough, but nothing that can’t be fixed as the author grows into her writing.

ARC provided to Les Rêveur for an honest review.

Insta-love holiday romance, featuring older ladies. One is almost 50 and the other 46 I believe. There's also a side character in her 60s that gets inspired to date by the two lovebirds, realising it's not too late.

The dialogue was a little clunky at times, but I definitely felt the sizzle of these characters attraction for one another and their connection as something deeper. So I found it to be a very touching romance.

I totally loved this book from start to finish. Great quick read for me. Great characters, great story line and although the romance was a little quick for my liking (I prefer slow burn) it was perfect for the story.

I look forward to reading more from Ms Moody in the future.

Alex Adams left behind a secret when she headed to her island paradise. Riley James came to the island to celebrate her friends wedding. Both woman had given up on love. Fate steps in a missed ferry & two romantic weeks can change their hearts. Alex secret could ruin the life ahead. The very special spark they have made it such a page Turner. Their romantic island sharing, a wedding that touched my heart and detailed writing that made me feeling I was on the island made this story so wonderful. The secret was one I had never imagined and it brought such light to an Aweful injustice. Jamey Moody dealt with it in a way that helped me rethink my snap judgements of people. The best gift from this story was a deep love that I felt for the characters as they worked through something so painful. This is a lovely story that will touch your heart and take you away to an island paradise. Bravo Jamey Moody on your debut book, I will be looking for your next one!

What a beautiful story by this new author. I‘m a big romantic at heart, so this was the perfect story for me. It made my heart full and I was still smiling when I finished. How both MC got together may seem a bit fast, but they were just perfect together and how they talked about their difficulties was perfect. Just like grown up people should do it. I highly recommend this story and am looking forward to more stories by this author.

Sweet

This is a very sweet and adorable love story. The main characters are not very young which to me made it better. They met and it was love at first sight. Great love scenes with a ice ending.

What an amazing debut by Jamey Moody. I could instantly feel myself pulled into the island life or at least vacation.

Alex has been living the island life in seclusion while being a part-owner of Peaches (a very cool, laid back place). She never hooked up with anyone despite working at a prime location. How many people want a vacation romance? How could Alex want to be involved in a short-lived romance? Riley was on vacation for a destination wedding, recently retired trying to figure out what to do with her life. Riley wants to live a little.

I really enjoyed the writing and story-telling. I'm looking forward to the next book by Moody.

This is a great story of two older women meeting on a holiday island. One works in the bar there and one is there for a wedding. It’s love at first sight for both of them, but one has a big secret that she hasn’t told the other. Once out it could ruin everything between them. I loved this book because it was between two more mature women, which seems to be rare in lesbian books these days. It was an interesting storyline, well written and good character development. Would highly recommend.

What a wonderful debut story!

Wow, this is a great story of two mature women in their late forties meeting on an island. Riley visits to attend the wedding of her friends and encounters Alex, the owner of the bar. Love at first sight? Indeed it is! But Alex is harboring a huge secret that prompted her move from Texas to this island paradise.

As a huge fan of Jamey Moody, this is strange for me because I don't know how I missed this book since I have now read every book she has written! Her writing style speaks to my heart - full of love, family and friends, laughter, tears of joy and happiness. But to me, what makes her unique is that her characters speak and act with such tenderness and ultimate kindness. I wish we could spread this around the world today!

Alex's secret is written with such understanding, fondness, acceptance and redemption, but I think it's time for this law to be rewritten. I like to think there's a whole lot of Jamey inside the character of Riley. Brava, Jamey, you were destined to share your love with readers of all ages who still believe in romance and happily ever after!

Riley James is a recently retired school teacher visiting the Virgin Islands for her friends wedding. On the first night at a bar she meets Alex Adams and attraction is instant and sizzling. Alex co-owns a bar and lives a quiet life on the island. When Riley misses her ferry to return to her hotel Alex invites her to stay in her apartment. Riley is planning on two weeks on the island but her heart is open for more.

I like both MCs and the romance. I’ve gotten use to Moody’s saccharine sweet writing style I was surprised there is some complicated and real angst inducing background for Alex. And it is something has to be accepted but not solved. I also like they they are both mature, almost 50. And I like how they consider their friends and family in their decision to be together. Alex Adams gets her quiet life interrupted when retired school teacher Riley James walks into her bar. Riley is at the island as part of a wedding party and ends up spending the night at Alex’s place due to a mixup.
It’s love at first sight, hot and steamy, but there is also a lot of emotions they have to deal with, and I felt the biggest turn was Alex’s past, I did not see that one coming.
If there was one thing I would put as a minus I wished that this book was a little longer, like inclusion of the scene where they meet Riley’s parents, and their adventures leading up to the wedding.
Otherwise it is a quick read short and sweet.

Island love

Jamey Moody presents a sweet, sexy, idyllic love story in Live This Love, featuring Riley James and Alex Adams. The two forty-something women meet when Riley visits the island of St. John to attend the destination wedding of her friends Kim and Kerry.

She and Alex first encounter each other — and sense their futures — when Riley visits Peaches, the bar Alex co-owns with her friend Liz, and Alex’s safe haven after leaving a painful situation in her home state of Texas.

Moody’s written an easy-reading, good-feeling tale that provides a good few hours of romance and redemption.

This debut romance was a pleasure to read, kind of like a much-needed mini-vacation. Riley, a retired teacher, travels to the Virgin Islands and encounters Alex, a sexy bartender/owner. There is an immediate attraction that leads to a passionate romance, but Alex has a secret she is reluctant to share with Riley because it could jeopardize their new love. I loved the fun, flowing dialogue between the appealingly mature characters, and the tropical island setting was lovely. It's a sexy read with lots of sweet moments that left me smiling. Enjoy!

I can't give a complete review as I only read the last part of the book. Once i saw there was a secret, i had to find out what it was. After I found out what it was, I continued to read the rest of the book.
The characters dealt with it well. In the books i've read by this author there is usually good communication and that was the case in this book. So the last part of the book had some great moments between the mains and some tough moments between the mains and others due to the secret. The part of the book I read was good read with several feel good moments. So 4* for that.

I recieved an ARC copy in return for an honest review.
I liked that the two main characters were older when they found their love. Gives us all a little bit of hope. Thought it was good that their relationship seemed very balanced and they felt in sync.
I didn't like Alex's secret or how it was dealt with.
Narrative moved well. Writing was patchy in places but overall fine.
Probably won't re-read.

Great story about 2 people finding one another. The beautiful background of a tropical beach definitely helps !!!! This is a love story and it’s refreshing that the 2 MC are older women (for those of us in that age group!!!). There’s a little suspense too. I kept wondering what is Alex’s secret ... murder, witness protection, running from an ex ... hmmm. Read this book - you will enjoy it and Alex’s secret will be ... “ahhhhhh, didn’t see that coming !”

Another winner!!!

Ms. Moody’s writings are inspiring and full of the passion, love, and life we all aspire to obtain. Alex and Riley find the missing piece of their lives and revel in it. Of course there are obstacles (even unjust ones) and pitfalls ... that’s life. But their love and commitment to each other was strong and solid. Another great read. I heartily and enthusiastically recommend this and all of Ms. Moody’s works. Thank you Peace

Sometimes good people do stupid things that have consequences

Alex is content with her island life - she has a business partner she trusts implicitly, a home she loves and friends. She also has a secret that causes her to keep people at arms length.

Riley is newly retired and not sure what her next move should be. Attending a friend's destination wedding in paradise, brings Riley and Alex together quickly and passionately.

But is passion enough when secrets are revealed?

Sweet unconventional romance

I truly loved this story. It had romance, a bit of drama and a whole lot o loving in it. Both women were very strong characters and definitely made the story highly entertaining as well as very addictive. I didn’t want to put that book down once I started reading it. Looking forward to reading more by this very entertaining author

This was a cute love story. However, it lacked detail that would have helped me to connect to the characters and to the situations they were placed in. A lot of the language was repetetive, and I did not find myself particularly rooting for any characters. I wasn't NOT rooting for them, but I did not really feel one way or the other about what was happening.
