The Marvels Snapshot tour through Marvel history continues, showcasing Marvel’s greatest characters through the eyes of ordinary people! Or does it? In this case, the “ordinary person” is teenaged Scott Summers, witnessing the dawn of the Marvel Age from a Nebraska orphanage and wondering what his place in it might be. What was it like to experience the debut of the FF, the Hulk, Iron Man and more? To wish you could be a part of it all? Writer Jay Edidin (Thor: Metal Gods, Jay & Miles X–Plain the X–Men) makes his Marvel comics debut, teamed with Tom Reilly (Immortal Hulk), to tell a story of upheaval and decision that would shape the X–Men (and the Marvel Universe) forever after.
A look at the early days of Scott Summers before he was an X-Men, it shows a bit of his origins, and the road that led him to become a master tactician, a must-read for Cyclops fans.
This was pretty cool. A look into the early life of Scott Summers before his mutant powers manifested. Definitely something for X-men fans to check out.
I saw someone said that the author, who is trans and autistic, has talked about seeing Scott Summers as trans and autistic as well, so I had to check it out. I love Scott and this take on his backstory hit the spot in my heart that Scott stories always hit. I loved seeing him get absorbed into special interests and know the author intended it to come across as autistic. It was phenomenal. This is the kind of story that I'd like to keep in my comic collection.
What a fantastic story about growing up, figuring out your place in the world and what kind of person we want to be. And, of course, the ever important origin story of Scott's most treasured book.
The one time relating to a super hero might be a bad thing....
I had no idea who Scott Summers was going into this. I know the name Cyclopes and that he was an X-Men, but that's it! So I was really interested when someone recommended this. Its not bad! In fact I really liked the story telling for this one. The art was also great and honestly, I really wanted to like this more then I did. I think the reason I didn't was because I was excepting to see Cyclopes in action instead of learning about Scott and his love for super heroes. There was definitely some references I had to look up, and maybe the end revile is grander when you know who he is talking about. Overall, I think X-Men fans will love this, while a new reader gets fun read. It has been weeks since I read this and I keep thinking about it. I may give it another and the other snapshots a try.
