Good as usual

Another great instalment in the Polwenna Bay series. I live in Cornwall and can see so many parts of the village and harbour in my mind from places around my home. It’s lovely that each book centres around a specific character so you really get to know them all. Hopefully their will be many more to come as Ruth captivates the reader and makes you want to go on!

Fantastic story

Once again we are back in Polwenna Bay amongst friends I love these books the characters seem so real. Ruth has such a way of telling stories that bring her characteristic life. It is a great read and I am glad th a t at last Nick gets his girl and only hope this is not the last in this series. I read lots of books but Ruth brings so much to her stories I feel like I am living in Cornwall with the way she tells about it. She is one of my favourite authors and this book is a must.

Lovely!

Just like a Cornwall afternoon, this story glints on the sea and warms the heart. Cannot wait for #8 in this series to see what happens next to the people of Polwenna Bay.

The immature youngest of the Tremaine clan is the primary focus of this book of the Polwenna Bay saga.
Nick has been friends with Meg forever. Meg helped him make schoolwork make sense and had been a listening ear for him as a child. But now, Meg needs an adult, and she is finding even her parents don't fill the bill with their stubborn resistance to a business plan that would possibly save their business. And her best friend is into summer party mode and not into listening mode. Perry provides some relief, and she talks over business ideas with him, but it isn't the same.
Alice and Jonny are back from their honeymoon, and Seaspray is too much of a hike for both of them. They alao want a place of their own, not the hotel apartment where Jonny has lived so much of his life, but since Jonny can afford the prices, a cottage on flat land and with close access to businesses and servuces they want and need. Alice takes care of business with Seaspray, but what will that entail?
Nick has been hired by Jake to take care of the toy of the rich man who has driven so many businesses, including Symon's restaurant, out of bussiness, and who is now targeting Meg's parents' business, "The Codfather," and their flat above the business. Rich girl Lara, with her perfect body outfitted in skimpy outfits, is playing games with Nick, teasing him sexually with likely false promises of no-strings-attached sex.
Morgan gets a drone for his 10th birthday and takes a shot that is blurry because of distances, but which some claim is the "morgawr," a legendary sea monster, and not a plesiosaur as Morgan believes (the plesiosaur is a living dinosaur, and actually exists). Morgawr fever grips the villagers, who cash in as much as possible on the phenomenon. Even Morgan's drone footage of the local builders-turned-seafarers shown faking the qppearance of the plesiosaur/morgawr fails to stop the phenomenon, giving Morgan his first taste of people preferring money-making myths to actual proof.
Jules is getting overwhelmed so the bishop sends along a curate, a young and handsome Scotsman who doesn't know what "neeps and tatties" are, but who is, as they would have said in Scotland when I lived there, a "braw laddie," and a "bonnie" one as well. This means, as Jules suspects when she sees him the first time, that a lot of the village women will find an urgent desire to attend to their spiritual needs. But Jules has another problem...her mother has left her stepfather as she is sure he is seeing another woman. Being insecure, she is chatting men up at the pub and flirting with any available man, while Jules's step-dad calls both her mom's and her cell phones incessantly in hopes that, if Jules's mother won't talk to him directly, she will talk to him if Jules begs her. She finally comes up with a solution, one based on Dannys advice to her: make sure the 2 of them talk face to face. Will it work? The dinner the 2 of them have prepped for Jules's mom and stepdad should at least help, it seems, but is it necessary? Jules is not a girly girl like her mom and frankly has no idea what facials, manis-and-pedis, makeup, etc., are all about, so complying with her mother's girly girl desires is hard for Jules.
As Nick sorts his feelings for Meg (and she for him), and Alice and Jonny look for a home easier for their aging bodies plus take care of business, as Morgan tries to recapture a clearer photo of the plesiosaur/morgawr to prove the deception going on, and Mo resigns herself to a status she wasn't ready for, as Jules and Danny try to plan a wedding amid the chaos, Symon and Ella keep pursuing their dreams and each other, Zac is settled in with Tess, Summer and Jake are a stable couple, Issie and Luke - who are home for a visit for Alice and Jonny's wedding but settledin Florida, will Nick find himself the last Tremaine to find and settle down with the love of his life? Or will he continue to party and pull girls?

Well I've reached the end of the series and have really enjoyed it. Of course the outcome was a little predictable but who cares. A good read with lots of humour and great charactet. Plenty of description and flavour of life in a Cornish seaside town. I do hope there will be a book 8 one day.

Another lovely read

The Tremaine family are once again entertaining us all. Nick and Meg's story was lovely. I hope there will be a book 7 to follow the wedding of Jules and Danny and see what happens next in the lives of Meg and Nick.

When I'm struggling to get back into reading, I generally turn to Ruth Saberton for a reliably solid read on my kindle. Her stories about Polwenna Bay are a bit like coming home to a cozy and beautiful Cornwall. This book didn't disappoint and it was like revisiting old friends again.

I keep thinking that Ruth Saberton cannot keep the stories fresh and entertaining, but she hasn't disappointed in any of the 7 I've read so far.

I've been a fan of Ruth Saberton since Katy Carter Wants A Hero - which I have a signed copy of! For those of you who aren't familiar with the Polwenna Bay series, it is based in a fictional small fishing village in Cornwall. Having grown up in a nearby village, I can attest that I actually know where a lot of locations are in this series!

Catching Hearts has been a long anticipated novel and it's been well worth the wait! In book 7, Nick Tremaine, the youngest (by forty minutes) of the Tremaine family is bitterly regretting how much he drank at his Gran's wedding (Rhythm of the Tide, book 6). In more ways than one. Eventually surfacing after two full days in bed, he's forced to face up to some home truths. Feeling both embarrassed and depressed, Nick is determined that make it up (again) to his family and friends.
Nick's Gran Alice has always had an eye out for her youngest grandson and, if truth be told, he's more like she is than she wants to admit to anyone. Now she's on her honeymoon it's clear that he needs to take a good hard look at himself. His brothers Danny and Jake don't pull any punches and his fiery sister Mo is furious with him. He's not entirely sure why that is until it dawns on him that he's made some seriously bad decisions at the wedding reception and now he has to face the consequences.
Smarting from being held to account, he seeks out his best friend Meg who has finally come back to the village. Meg sees right through Nick's party animal ways and actually understands that he really doesn't like change. When Meg asks Nick to do something special for her and he lets her down, again, she finally accepts that Nick will always be Nick and calls time on their friendship.
Like it or not things are changing in Polwenna Bay and Nick isn't fond that everyone else in the family is moving on and doing things with their lives. Unsettled by this, Nick sticks to what he knows best - drinking and pulling pretty holidaymakers. However he finds himself unsettled by Perry's interest in his friend Meg and is uncharacteristically jealous about it. Meg, used to Nick's ways rolls her eyes at the latest holidaymaker who is making a play for him. The fact that she looks at Meg as "just the chip shop girl" doesn't endear her to Meg.
As the summer season kicks into full swing, a mysterious visitor to the bay attracts national interest while Meg has her hands full trying to keep her parent's business afloat. Having commiserated with Perry of the battles of keeping the family business afloat, she realises that she would loved to have talked to her best friend about it but Nick never asks her about what's bothering her.
While Meg battles with her landlord, Tremaine Marine battles with second homers who have an expensive boat but don't know how to handle it and both Jake and Nick are at their wits end with it. Still, the end of the summer party at Adriatic Bay signals the end of the season and there are some huge changes ahead in Polwenna Bay. Nick, at a loss to know how to fix his relationship with Meg is shocked to discover that he really could lose her forever.
After a boating accident unfolds before his eyes, has Nick left it too late to mend his relationships with his friends and family?

Very late thought I had posted this one a while ago but hadn’t. As with all Ruth Saberton books it’s a cracking read back to catch up with the Polwenna bay crew. As usual I had it on pre order and read it on the day it landed and totally loved it
